The original R8 advert (with the car in a white room and the engine going full send) still gives me chills. I have it saved on my RUclips and extracted the audio and put it on my iPod. Just love how they sound 😍
Im in my 70’s and lucky enough to have owned most makes of supercars when in my 30’s , 40’s and 50’s. By far the best cars were what I call proper sports cars with manual boxes, rear wheel drive with no traction control. All had carburettors with great induction and exhaust sounds. They had to be driven , some using heel and toe gear changing and cadence braking. Most were around 400 bhp and up to 700 bhp. In the earlier of my super car ownership, there were no speed cameras to worry about,, the only real worry was being tailed by the Police but with a good eye to the rear, was not a problem. There were far less cars on the road enabling some record times being achieved some of which produced an average of over 90 mph. These days will never be repeated. I have owned several high powered auto or semi auto sports cars and they are bland with no real demand of the driver other than to ‘hang on’.
That looks and sounds absolutely beautiful. I can't believe spending £165,000 on it that they charge extra to improve the sound system and comfort pack.
I do love those cars, makes me miss my old job at Audi, Delivering all over the country. Reminds me of a day I drove over 600 miles to deliver a demo V10 plus and bring the pix V8 back, an epic day. As an a side can you do a test on your neighbours Skoda Citigo Monte Carlo. As they are great fun cars to drive flat out everywhere with a peppy 3cyd engine.
The end of an era feeling you have Pete very much reminds me of Clarkson's seminal Aston V12 review, probably the most beautiful yet melancholy 5 minutes of telly I've seen. Love your review too though and for once glad to be vertically challenged, should my circumstances drastically change! Oh, I'd need a lairier colour too..
BRILLIANT !! As you've mentioned before you probably have one of the best jobs in the world . Excellent review . SO glad you touched on the whole EV thing - my children , sadly , may and will have to endure EV 's . What a beautiful car the R8 is. Loved them from their launch way back . Lucky fella !! 👊
Stylistically spectacular super car with a superior naturally aspirated V10 engine that sings orchestra, a RWD version will the drivers version. Superb review Pete!
Friday night are getting as great as watching and listening to your greatest rock band at Wembley stadium the sound tracks are getting better and better
Evening all 👍 I have to agree that whilst the car look and sounds amazing the interior does somewhat remind me of my 2018 A5 which was a sub £50k car when new
@@PetrolPed Thanks -My Man enjoy, these will be prehistoric cars in a few years! love your content and the channel! keep it coming - the followers and the faith are clearly here to see! - still need the occasional clubman JCW vid, as you cemented me buying one! my Dad used to race a BR Green one back with Paddy Hopkirk in the days gone by! so I had to get a BRG one! I love it! You're moving on to bigger things, but leave your core crew behind! having spoken to other Petrolheads, it's a great diverse set of quality content you put on. so don't try to fix it! it isn't broken at all ! thanks Richard
Love the R8. Still looking to move to EV at some point from my S4 to an etron GT but cars like this make staying ICE for a little bit longer just that little bit more compelling! Keep up the great work!
It was never about the performance but about the pleasure and passion. Unfortunattely the car industry is getting owned by people that don't like cars or even driving.
One of the most fulfilling and yet informative review you’ll find. Well done and ….thank you!! Oh yes, about the width restriction , I was going in an Aston Martin Vanquish and I managed to kerb all 4 of the alloys on that bridge trying to get to the hotel the other side!!!
What a sound, what a thing (don't like the shiny primer look, though)! Imagine that in the Blackwall Tunnel! Agree with Steve Wilson below, we're looking at the end of an era here, which is sad but exciting at the same time.
I am as you know a huge petrolhead and that is one awesome bit of kit and in a way it is a shame that cars like that will not be made or sound like that in the future. I presume you sense a but and my but is that I was not as disappointed as I thought I would be with a pure EV in my case the iPace which is up there but bordering on affordable. The instant torque is on another level so to sum up, the future is not as bleak as I thought it was going to be but it will be hard to let the ICE cars go.
Jay Leno has summed up the electric car thing quite well. He says the electric car will get you to work during the week to allow you to use your Camaro, Mustang, MGB in the weekend. Personally I still think the full electric thing will not work. Visiting the fuel we use is the answer.
You did not mention the terrible boot space, but the car looks and sounds wonderful.( I drove down that hill climb road last week after meeting Joe at Goodwood)
That is some engine and sound !. I certainly sacrifice that noise with my 12C Spider but to be honest I’d still rather have it, carbon tub the roof adds no real weight bar the mechanism. It handles superbly and also just personal preference prefer solid top convertibles. Regards Supercar practicality I would urge anyone who has one to use the crap out of it, I’ve taken it to track days, but also the weekly shop to Tesco’s and to the local garden centre and I can confirm you can fit a 100 litre bale of multi purpose compost in the front! As ever great review no BS and awesome content 🏎💨👍
What owning a super car is all about, how it makes you feel behind the wheel 😎👍 Love the R8, drove one on a track experience & ticked all the boxes.........one day lol 😂
Hi Pete I’m an Ev man these days but I’ve got to agree with you that engine note is amazing that’s why i like Lamborghinis not for how they drive but the sound. The original R8 coupe was my favourite car at that time. Great video.
Tell you what Ped That colour is stunning especially with the black addition finish. The sound is outstanding. As you say, it’s sad that this will be the last raw V8 to gallop out of the Audi stable.
I agree with you totally, EV's will have a big place in our future and naturally aspirated performance engines are a very dying breed, and dying very fast. Yes we live in excitingly sad times.
Hi Ped We met at Blenheim Salon Prive last year, I was the big lad with the green 812GTS. I get what you’re saying about being it cramped for tall drivers (I’m 6’4”) but you need to try the standard bucket seats which give more leg space. That sorted it for me when I had a 2018 R8 V10+ convertible. Brilliant car, probably going to get myself another one. If you found the R8 cramped then give Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s a miss but the McLaren’s will fit you like a glove 👍
I remember 👍 McLaren spiders are not a problem for me thankfully. Is just have a 600LT…problem solved. If you are going to SP again this weekend keep an eye out for me 👍
I totally agree Pete that these engines are quickly becoming things of the past but hopefully enough people will own them and still use them so we can hear them occasionally. Lovely looking design and that sound is amazing, who needs a stereo.
Hello Mr Ped, I am slightly taller than you so will stick with Minis. Later this year I will be trading in my Cooper S Works 210 (BRG) for a Clubman JCW. Rebel Green, green roof and no stripes. Your great Mini videos have helped me make that choice. Thanks.
Ditch all that EV stuff, spend the next few years burning God's liquor before they ban it. I'm off to buy another V8 to make sure I get through my rightful quota.
Looks like with leg length 33" that does for the R8 V10! Still if could do a pretty smart local shopping trip without anaesthetising one's backside. Another slight problem is the £170K price tag. There is also no substitute for that V10 snarl so EV's may be quick but they tend to be as dull as ditchwater. You'd be better buying a decent ICE motorycycle with the requisite grunt like the ones in the vlog...

Hi Ped Audi design and engineering at its best, LOVE IT🥰🥰🥰 Regret I never got to drive either the coupe or Spyder, as my dealer knew that finances were not available. True but a bit mean. However I did find that the Spyder was not to be, as I did not fit, as you also discovered. So it would have to be Coupe (lottery win assumed). But I love open cars😂😂😂

That's why people like Harleys, there is no sound that even comes close and is completely addictive, at all speeds. I think you would love one.
The original R8 advert (with the car in a white room and the engine going full send) still gives me chills. I have it saved on my RUclips and extracted the audio and put it on my iPod. Just love how they sound 😍
Haha. That was me on the Panigale. I did think it was you! Great vid 👍👍
No way 😮 What a bloody awesome bike 👌
Enjoy them while they’re still around. Soon that sort of noise will be a thing of the past 😢
I suppose people can always get their missus to sit in the passenger seat with a battery drill? Maybe?
Sadly 😢
I love your review style, it almost puts me as a viewer in a position to enjoy the experience with you. Great stuff! Thanks!
That’s the plan 👍🙏🏻
Man that engine sound Pete,it just incredible.
Sure was 👍
You drop the top, get close to nature, then flamethrower it with that V10. Glorious sound.

Always there's the over use of the term "Glorious" whenever there's a v12 but now its creeping over to the v10.
Wow Super Episode and beautiful music from the v10 .
Cheers Lee 👍
Sounds utterly incredible! Great vid as always Pete.
One has just driven past us down in Cornwall, what an incredible machine and such a long name as well.. To think this could be the last one
I drove a 2015 r8 v10 spyder with manual box in 2015. Only couple hours but what an awesome car.
👍
That engine growl @ 5000rpm is Awwwwwsome 😲
That looks and sounds absolutely beautiful. I can't believe spending £165,000 on it that they charge extra to improve the sound system and comfort pack.

Absolutely agree. I sometimes play that piece of music when I drive mine.
My thoughts exactly. One of Clarksons best videos. Hard to believe that was 10 years ago and these great cars are still here, at least to the moment.
BRILLIANT !! As you've mentioned before you probably have one of the best jobs in the world . Excellent review . SO glad you touched on the whole EV thing - my children , sadly , may and will have to endure EV 's .

Great video. I have just bought a 2018 R8 V10 + Coupé. I pick it up on Tuesday. I can’t wait!
Very nice. You lucky thing 👌
Friday night are getting as great as watching and listening to your greatest rock band at Wembley stadium the sound tracks are getting better and better
Car sounds incredible, thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
2nd Gen R8 Plus hit perfection before all the fake grills and the emissions regulations.
Evening all 👍

Booked it online the day before 😳

Amazing sound, amazing car, amazing review. Well done Pedro and the price...ouch!
Cheers Dan 👍
Can’t go wrong with the R8. What a car 🚀
Rocket Ship 👍
I'd love an Audi R8. We have a TTRS Audisport version which is amazing. Just thought the R8 would be less practical for day to day use.
Good day from down under on a nice weekend. 👏👏👏

My pleasure 👍
Dream car, sadly that is all it will ever be. Nice review, and great video
Its Friday, hope all are OK, drove an earlier version on a track day, what a car!!

Great review, once again!

Notting wrong 😑 with your super MINI.s 🇦🇺🏁

Hi Pete
One of your best mate.. love this car plus I’m only 5ft 10’ so I’ll be ok in it lol I love Audi as you know iv got the SQ7 fully loaded but the R8 is so impractical for me at the moment with having two grandchildren lol… so sad they won’t be around forever… your still top of your game mate 👍👍👍👍
Cheers Carl 👍
Love a drive of that even though I'm an EV fan
Wonderful car and another great vid.
The Tesla Roadster will make you forget about all your ICE toys. Well, maybe, I love my 981 Spyder too!
Till you get to a corner 😜😂
Sounds epic! Looks epic! …. But I think the coupe looks even epic-er 😊
If only an EV could give such audio fizzing pleasure
👍
I note that Audi UK no longer sells the basic 540PS RWD version. All R8s are now of the V10 Performance variety, Quattro or RWD. I think that's a bit of shame, because I think 540PS is already far too much for a road car.
Utopia ..... Magnificent car and truly wonderful sound ....... fingers crossed for the Lottery win tonight !! Ha Ha
What a machine!!! Great video as always Peter, 👌👍
Thanks 🙏🏻
I enjoyed watching the Video. Looks very nice 👍
Thanks Jamie 👍
13:18, I’ll watch it later, sweet ride.
loved that
Only things I'm not keen on, colour (better in a bright one), mirror finish on wheels and the front end (better on previous model), otherwise no complaints!Save the money on a Ferrari,McClaren(quality not top notch) and buy this Audi and a petrol station!
Hi Ped 👍👍👍👍
Hi 👋
Love it,an every day super car .❣️
Hi Pete, you are soooo lucky my friend, I do love the R8. it is my ultimate car. Maybe Audi UK will let me have one day, hint, hint, a guy can dream
Keep at it and keep asking 👊
Hey Ped. Great engaging review as always. What a fantastic car! Shame about the price :-(
From a car fan perspective, it is a shame we won't have engines like this in the future, although EVs are impressive, they sound so boring.
Bit strange about the lack of leg room, I assume you weren't cramped in the hardtop versions?
Nope. Plenty of space in the Coupé 👍
Love my ev , but can't deny that r8 engine note is very special .
👍
