      Ian Townsend Funny how designers know what'll look good after a while even though it isn't loved at first.

      They look amazing in person. I didn't like it at first because all of the initial focus was on the change in the side blade design. That's probably the worst angle to look at the car from.

      @way2fitTV 8 лет назад +2

      I didn't like it at first either. it lost a lot of the things I liked from the original. But after seeing it a few more times on the road I realize just how good the new design is

      Bryan M Some of us just don't care for open roof driving, the blowing wind and sun beating down on our heads while driving for fun. I'm one of those folks who prefers a solid fixed roof in my fast cars. I've driven and rented sport convertibles in the past and while they have their good points I still drove those with the top up more than the top down. Glad I don't own one

    fantastic review. That V10 sounds amazing. However, 1st gen looked better, IMO. Audi has lost it's way since the late 2000s... Also, I would be one of those nobody's who would have it with a manual. It is just better.

    • @NikoBell12
      @NikoBell12 8 лет назад +4

      Yeah since late 2013 Audi has been out of it. And I would much prefer a 2013 R8 Spyder with a manual and that sexy matte blue paint they had available at the time.

      It did but to be honest, the new R8 is such an incredible car I really don't care about that. I'd take it over a Huracan every single time. And although I'm a manual gearbox guy, the V10 revs so quickly it really needs a paddle shifter. I don't think it'd be enjoyable with a manual.

    I think Best bang for its buck in terms for sound (stock) is the flat 6 Cayman or Boxster (not the 718 models). Sounds glorious for the price. Picked up a GTS version myself last week. Just wow. Debated between a r8, a 911 and this Cayman GTS. In the end went with the less pricy one but I like it more surprisingly

    With the roof down the r 8 looks like it was built to be a full time roadster with no roof like ever, and its been like that since the first r8, same with gallardo, it doesnt look like the roof was cut off like other lambo roadsters, mclaren, and ferrari convertibles.

  • @Mxrider92i

    How do you think this car would do on a racetrack ? I mean, does the litlle lack of rigidity and the few extra pounds really make a difference ?

    • @Jodelorakel
      @Jodelorakel 8 лет назад

      From a solely performance perspective, an increase in weight and decrease in rigidity is a really bad thing. Also the center of mass climbs higher, which doesn't necessarily affect straight line drags, but on tight tracks I suspect a definitive disadvantage. Still pretty stiff and fast though. And the Coupe isn't a featherweight either. It's just not a track car.

    • @Mxrider92i
      @Mxrider92i 8 лет назад

      Yes it surely looks like the spider would run slower lap times than the coupe on a track. But damn, hearing that V10 symphony while driving roofless must be quite an experience ! I'm usually not a big fan of convertibles, because of the issues mentionned above, but in this case i wonder it wouldn't be worth loosing a couple seconds on the track but having such a good time on open roads.
      I've read somewhere that the Mclaren 650s spider had almost no difference of performances compared to the coupe. Maybe that would be the perfect fit for people who love the sensations of a roofless car but still want to go fast on a racetrack.

  • @HesteBremse
    @HesteBremse 8 лет назад

    It´s a really great car but I´m not much on for the looks. A coupe v10 + was parked at the corner the other day, in white and it looks quite a lot better in real I must admit. AUDI detailing in interior finish is simply sublime and those rims great.

    The new R8 is not a particularly striking car to look at, at least not compared to other supercars, but it is actually a really attractive car, and I would as far as saying that's probably the first supercar that everyone, aesthetically at least, can accept. it's contemporary sharp edges are not over the top or brash(showy) but rather subdued and elegant... Or rather they were, taking off the roof completely ruined it.

      I never thought it increased lateral grip either. I still hear so many people say it does though

    • @MrMlbfan6
      @MrMlbfan6 8 лет назад

      Matthew Franklin it has a little more stability depending on the car

    • @insioni
      @insioni 8 лет назад

      well uh, if im not wrong, it does not increase actual grip, but it increases speed you can carry through a corner without the back sticking out, at the cost of some understeer. You can also get on the power earlier compared to rwd, since the front wheels in awd when angled into a corner, are pulling the car further in. On an rwd, higher grip = higher corner speed. So, higher corner speed with awd (than rwd) with the same 'actual grip' = effectively more grip (compared to rwd)

      A Huracan is for people who want a flashy car and cannot afford an Aventador. It's basically a 50k bodykit which makes the cabin smaller, the car heavier and aerodynamically less efficient.
