A Huracan in a business suit, an amazing engine in a very understated body which I think helps in its suitability for 'daily' use. Great to see a 'live with' test rather than a ''Wow look how fast this goes'' review.
Evening all. Here I am Sitting in the dark after a day without power, been up since 5am when my new Clarke tent garage decided to self distuct in the high winds. The windspeed indicator impeller on my weather station also took off and disappeared over the horizon to add insult to my day. Thank goodness I can still watch PP and others on RUclips
We have a 2015 R8 performance with Quattro. Living in Canada. The AWD is a must have. It’s drive all year round and I must admit that this is even more fun to polite then our 2021 sti heavily modified. I’m rather sad to hear the R8 will no longer be produced. Hoping Audi will return with an even better super car in the near future. Thdkks aging fit this fantastic episode. Always live following you Good Sir.
Good to see a car like this do the day to day stuff and with your wife driving. It really does tick all the boxes in a unassuming way. Future classic for sure and one you can drive.
First off epic spec car color and wheels. Epic soundtrack the car makes! So sad it’s going away! Also congrats on a new PB!! Great video Sir Pete. Fantastic all the way around! Great to see you and Mrs P in a video together again to!
Hi Ped Fitting tribute to the R8. As you know I am also a big Audi fan, and have always had a soft spot for the R8 range, especially the V8. Never been in the position to consider buying new, but the V8 was in contention a few years ago when I was looking at possible used car examples. With some regret chose the 911 Carrera 4 S Cabrio, which in my humble opinion a better and more practical touring car. Never regretted buying that car, guess it’s horses for courses. 😎
It’s always sounded good, but to my ears the V10 in the BMW M5 sounded better; hollow and mournful. For me, the Audi motor is a little thrashy. Lovely video too. Appreciate the editing and the blending of review and real life. Very effective.
Very generous of you to allow Mrs PP to drive you to the local for a pint & lunch😂. Enjoyed the vlog. One word of caution though, don’t show your home postcode on google maps - don’t want your fab GTS to go walkies 😮
Evening Pete, sounds like you enjoyed the weeks ride a little too much. I'm not the biggest of Audi fans. Unfortunately had a couple of A4 Diesels V6 models with bad experiences. Had a few BMW's and the only issues after 5 of them was a damaged Turbo on the 330D, but BMW did me a 50/50 deal, unlike Audi. Enjoy the weekend/ holiday on the slopes.
Great way to review the R8 Ped. You know, if you keep giving the car the beans, you are not gonna get the economy. I remember Shmee once saying that he got close to 30 mpg out of his G63, whilst every reviewer has always said the G63 was a middle to high teens car if you drove it well. The secret, drive like a saint! I manage 5-10mpg more than I'm supposed to be able to get with my car. Would love to try that with the R8, hehe.
Another really good practical video, thanks Ped. I can see why Audi are phasing the R8 out though. We bought an RS Etron GT and it is slightly quicker than the R8 and handles really well for a car which is so heavy although the rear wheel steering helps immensely. But the petrol consumption of the R8 compared to the very cheap cost of the electric RS GT is a no brainier…….at the moment. However as you stated is another video, of course that will eventually change and the government will claw it back somehow. It is sad to see the end of these iconic petrol cars, but the planet has to take priority. Keep up the great videos!
Brilliant video once again Pete . With a great insight into the practicalities of real world super car ownership. A lottery winners car ! But we can all dream. Keep up the varied and fantastic content.
Good morning Petrol ped, what a fantastic video thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope you are doing well. Congratulations on the 10k you did you did at Goodwood. Keep up the fantastic work absolutely love the Audi R8 RWD thank you very much for all the hard work you put into the videos Tristan
I found this video very interesting, especially the technical information, so a big thank you for the video. It enabled me to compare the Audi with my car. My car has same 0-60 time, my car's top speed is about 10MPH slower, I have 4 WD which I think is better than RWD, mine has CC brakes which I like, I have considerably more luggage space, my fuel consumption over last 1000 miles 23.5MPG (current mileage 87,000 miles), my car's value today is about £30,000, I have just put in a new communication system which I think matches that in the Audi but has a touch screen. You did not cover road tax or insurance but I bet mine would be considerably less (tax £660 insurance £215). Ok my car is 17 years old. Conclusion, although the Audi is a fabulous car and although I am biased, I think I will stick with mine.
Great review thanks 👏🏻 So good to get the 'daily' perspective. In reality I have a bit of a problem with the R8. It is perceived as a 'daily' supercar and a car that you could tour in. In reality its a bit too heavy and, if like other Audi's, numb to use as an out and out performance / sports car. The interior space and MPG means touring is not it's forte, so what is? It's stuck in between a supercar and touring car but actually is not great at either? I may be wrong and if anyone actually reads this they may have actual experience. But of the 2 Audi's I have owned, both fast versions, neither have been fun or interesting. I took both of mine touring and the RS4 was only memorable as it was somehow useless in the snow (despite 4wd) and we almost ground to a halt in Northern France and the S5 was so forgettable even my wife could not remember we went to the Swiss Alps in it, and when we got there even I could not be bothered to drive the passes. For me Porsche and McLaren have daily driving and touring taken care of and are engaging and exciting to drive. I have had 4 Boxster's and 911's and they can all be driven daily and do over 30mpg, car tour for a month with space and comfort and are fast and engaging. Likewise McLaren's, loads of space, stupid fast, engaging and 35+ mpg. Just my thoughts....
a beautiful car in a fantastic colour combination. the seats being uncomfortable would be a real negative if i could actually afford to buy and run one! the lack of a touch screen would be a massive plus though, much prefer buttons. enjoyed the vid ped.
Definitely a shame that the R8 will no longer be manufactured, the other part of that is that there are many used ones out there for years to come. I do think however that we can’t say that we will never see an ICE engine like that again, we can’t un invent the “wheel”…..
Feels like in recent times we have reached the pinnacle of motoring, only for that achievement to be snuffed out by the approaching EV armageddon. I'm just hoping that alternative fuels will save cars like this beautiful R8, a car that I could never afford but I'm so thrilled it exists.
Forgot to mention, there was an R8 V10 Audi at last years Brighton Speed Trials running high9,low 10 quarter mile times.I think it was sporting around 1000bhp!
Really enjoyed that everyday type review and style…think you might be onto something there over the ubiquitous wannabe Clarkson type YT car channels 👍🏾
