- @alinghiredbullracing really made an impact with the first reveal of a Version 2 AC75. It seems to be a radical extension of the philosophies seen from the winning yacht of Ac36 - Te Rehutai. This video gives an initial analytical reaction to the dramatic night in Barcelona.

Thanks mate from NZ. Appreciate your work. 😊
I wonder if there are any aero guys on RUclips that would partner with you to look at the shapes these teams are playing with. I'm thinking like a Kyle engineers who was a Mercedes F1 aero guy might be a great cross over?
good idea
Nice analysis Mozzy, thanks for your great work!!
it's a pleasure!
A lot of ETNZ's last boat shape in there.
The new ETNZ boat will be radically different than the successful defender in the AC 36 final.
@@johnmartin7158 For sure it will need to be,ETNZ's new boat has got to be radically different than all the challengers to have any chance of retaining the AC.
@@rusty7720 And more than likely it will be totally different design from the challengers. Out of all the challengers Luna Rosa could also come up with something a bit out of left field.
Well, it was a revolutionary design and such an incredible yacht overall. Can't blame them. _Te Rehutai_ is still my all-time favorite AC yacht, of my lifetime in any case.
@@johnmartin7158 Yes, LR even stated that it would be. LR and ETNZ are the yachts I'm looking forward to seeing the most.
Great video as always, thanks! Awesome seeing the new hulls! Had a sail today on IACC USA76 from 2003
Awesome, I hope you had a nice breeze!
Nice Tom. I look at it and don't see this! I ser lights and smoke and glitz and glam. Your attention to the detail and explanations are brilliant. Love it!
Stunning, not surprised at the direction they’ve taken .
So what’s the chances of team nz completely rethinking the rule limitations and coming up with a drastically new concept to everyone else this time? It really is a case of hurry up and wait to see what they come up with in my opinion.
Quite likely in my opinion but what that direction will take is anyone's guess!
What would be fantastic for landlubbers like me would be when you do your full review with the lads would be first do a quick summary of the lingo eg Skeg, Bustle etc. Cheers love your work
Typical red bull ...a lot of pop and fiz but at the end of the day a distant 2nd to L&P go team NZ 😅
You've found more images than I saw on their official video, and those new images show much more detail. Good job there.
The pods look so skinny. How does the crew fit in there ? Sitting sideways ? Shoulders below deck level ? Difficult to get out in a hurry.
Definitely a good looking boat. Can't wait to see the rest. Thus cup I going to be a good one.
I am really looking forward to this one!
@@Spartan902 it's going to be a good one.
@@RodNZl-EsportsThe only thing that would make it better for me is if Australia had a boat. Still going to be great!
@@Spartan902 fear enough
Would like to see it in the daylight
Hard to see much detail at night with flashing lights
Oooooooo getting close now! Very exciting!
Etnz have just launch their new baby 2 hours ago!
Just seen!
I like it, the most interesting angle for me was another picture I saw from the front quarter. Really highlighted the nice long scoop between the nostrils and cheeks for directing the apparent wind over the hull towards the sails, and below the scoop the nice the curve of the hull to lift and drive it (the mid section angled part).
Yeah Baby! Cheers Mozzy.👍😎🇦🇺 I love the design as well.
Good analysis, Tom. (I see you've kept your word on the woolly jumper!) 🙂
yes, back to the jumpers... could get hot this summer in Barcelona!
Great early analysis
Bring on the full design break down. Nice looking boat. Excited to see it sail and what we can deduce from that. Great vid!
The aft pod design is very interesting and something I didn't expect. The bow treatment where there's a stepping I believe is called a _chine._ It is increasingly being adopted by cruising catamaran yards for their high-performance models. As would be expected, it provides more volume above the waterline while retaining a sharper profile below and is an acceptable compromise between all-out performance and interior space. Although a bigger concern for cruisers, chine also provides slightly more buoyancy in rougher waters. As you pointed out, this will only make sense on a pure race boat if there is a minimum volume regulation. Boy, am I stoked to see what the other teams have designed!
Pronounced hull chine on production performance yacht... ruclips.net/video/lx_nNp9q_Eo/видео.html
The Chine also directs more water/spay off the bow, and keeps the boat a little drier.
And hopefully also... less spray on the faces of the helm and navigator.
Oooo! Exciting stuff to come! Im triggered already!
The wind conditions for the Cup in mid-late October may be significantly lighter than those for the Louis Vuitton in late-August through to early October...it will be interesting to assess at which end of the wind scale the various hull designs are focussed.
Oh yeah! The red~bull~ bandit ❤

I'm no Te Reo speaker, just an ordinary Kiwi, but your pronunciation of the Te word, ["The" in Maori] grates. The E vowel is more akin to the english word tear than tee as in a golf tee. Something to do with the way the language was transcribed into written form using only 15 letters and French vowel sounds. Unlike English, the spelling is consistent. Keep up the good work on the boats though.
Look at the end of the deck fairing where it has the square cut off. What is that diagonal line in white? Is this section fake and removable.
Thanks for the video, Can't wait for the full analysis and the rest of the fleet
Kiwi sailing new boat today, can't wait to hear your thoughts
Another great video, the boat looks really cool.
Yo Team NZ have unveiled and sailed their boat nothing hidden its fast they are gping to win😂
It’s been nice having Alinghi in Barcelona for so long.
Your analyses Are gold - as always😊
Very interesting, thank you.
NO SORRY ,A TOTAL FAILURE

Mozzy you didn't comment on the foils. Even shrouded they look like T foils. Looks like they have gone with flat T's too, can't see any banana's.
LR launched. Looks amazing. Can’t wait for your analysis.
They should have carbon footprint limits in a climate catastrophe !
Twot, you mean climate scam
Hey Mozzy - re pronunciation...
Try: Tee-Roo-A-Tie
Teh Reh-who-tai
Or just team New Zealand.
yeah you seem pretty much spot-on with you analysis, steroid induced bustle, lowered deck, planing step on the bow. the wasting of the pods also reduces weight at the stern. re foils a lady always saves some secrets for the final undressing
Team New Zealand has just revealed the new AC 75 !!!!
This looks sexy and i dont think the other teams had better ideas. Expecting similar designs or mistakes 😅
Magnificent piece of Art. Cheers from NZ
Wonder if Adrian Newey had any input?
Nice analysis
Ernesto win 4 us please!
I'm guessing the large, bustle/skeg in the front might compromise sailing up wind, Crosswinds might push it away... One would think, too much free board certainly affected upwind performance for New Zealand in San Francisco.
The apparent wind direction at the speeds at which these boats sail means that in reality there's very little crosswind component & the wind is really approaching the boat about 13- 15 degrees off the centreline.
Dude! I hope you had a good sleep
❤❤❤
So great to see the class continue to grow and adapt.
@Mozzy how much has the design rule changed since Auckland AC?
Could this generation of boats have been designed within the previous cup’s rules?
For the boat hull and rig, this time around it is much lighter. And the foils can have a greater wingspan. Those are 2 of the more major changes.
Some other changes:
No backstays, no bowsprit, less crew but with cyclors
was the undertaker introduced as well?
Ha, the music they used definitely has that vibe!
why are they not looking at the hull as a lifting surface?
probably because the maximum amount of aerodynamic lift your could generate by the hull (at the expense or compromising wet/displacement mode drag which would equate to more difficult transition to foiling mode) it makes more sense to generate that lift by the foils (with much better lift to drag ratio) and minimize aerodyamic drag of the hull through the air.
Or should the hull be a downforce surface once airborne to increase riding moment? It is almost like you want lift whilst touching the water and then you want to switch.
@@EnniodBleu So are we saying hulls just need to get you out of the water first and then be as close to zero drag as possible? Surely a lot of races will be won without touchdowns? So do you design something super fast when it flies and give up on the light wind days?
This was covered off in the last cycle.
Not chasing suboptimal lift from shapes that will increase global aero drag once foiling.
Use the foils for better lift characteristics. Decrease drag on the hull and give better spanwise treatment from the skeg. Improve Lift and Drag from mast and sail interaction.
@@Si-jk4iy Indeed but I wonder where the tradeoff between increased drag and increased lift lies? The French offshore racing team, Gitana, was researching lifting surfaces added to the airfoil-shaped arms for the amas of their Ultim trimaran. They were considering it for the next version that will replace their current boat. The rationale was lowering the foiling threshold by increasing aerodynamic lift to supplement the foils in marginal conditions. That might improve average time foiling a little which can add up to a lot of time gained over long ocean races. Granted, with movable surfaces the crew can then adjust for a decreased drag profile once the yacht is foiling, something not possible with a speculative lifting hull inquired upon by the OC.
and they said full keels were slow and didnt point well
Different venues, different needs.
keel hung rudders are coming back, you watch.
Thanks. Btw the Kiwi boat name is pronounced “Teh Reh-hoo-tie’” and the ‘R’ is rolled once
Bring back monohulls.
these are monohulls ;)
Try good luck two the whole lott_@m ~ ~

Normal Anglo reasoning around the world:
Its excellent and not anglo therefore a copy. Cannot be original. It becomes original once an anglo copies it and makes its own version.
Italians started with the skeg thing not any anglo.
Just another ETNZ copy…yawn 🥱
Designed by an Italian, yawn
