  • I came across some issues with fuel system in Volvo V50 2.0D engine. Cold engine struggles to stay idle or shuts down and it's almost impossible to start it again. OBD scanner shows code P0091 which is related to the fuel system low pressure. That's why the symptoms were similar to air in fuel lines or no fuel at all in the system.
    I removed the fuel valve to inspect and unlock it if it's stuck to make the car running again. There's only one connector and 2 bolts to remove. This can help you make you car going but most likely you will face this problem again as it's caused by aluminum debris from the high-pressure fuel pump.
    If you can get your car going again, you should visit your mechanic and inspect the high-pressure fuel pump and fix it.
    This engine can be found in cars:
    Citroen/Peugeot (DW10 BTED4): C4, C4 Picasso, C5, C8, Jumpy / Dispatch, 307, 308, 407, 508, 607, 807, Expert.
    Ford (G6DB, QXBA, QXWB, QXWA): Focus MK2, C-Max, Galaxy, Kuga, S-Max, Mondeo MK4.
    Volvo (D4204T): C30, C70 II, S40 II, S80 II, V50, V70 III.

    Hi! greetings from Spain. I have been trying to replace the fuel volume regulator of my Peogeot 407 (it looks very similar to the one you are showing in the video, but mine is a llitle bit more hiden than yours haha). The thing is I removed the two screws, but the regulator itself was hard, so I stopped pulling, because I was affraid something would break. I could force prying off a bit with a screwdriver .... but I didn't. Could you confirm if the regulator can be forced a bit (and obviously the new one will be pushed with a nylon hammer, if needed), or may be there is other procedure?

    I've learned recently that these can also get "tyred" in time. I did not have a code or obvious symptoms for mine, but when I got a stage 1 remap, the guys showed me on the dyno data that there was a slight drop in fuel pressure at 3500rpm, and it's because of the aged regulator. Had it replaced, and it makes a difference in many ways. I would have never known if it wasan't for the remap data. Or maybe if it failed one day.

    Hi
    What holds the pressure once the car is switched off, as I have a cold start problem, changed all the obvious like glow plugs, but I have noticed on the live data my pressure drops straight to 0kpa within 30secs, where as my bro-inlaws stays at around 230kpa constantly.

    Hi, I have P407 and car do not start when conector is conected to fuel flow regulator. But if I apply 12V to regulator car starts without a problem. My questions is what is your voltage on fuel flow regulator conector with key in 2nd position. I have 7,3V which is not enough to open regulator and I am worried that ECU is bad. Thank you!

    Hi, I got the same car and similar problem: cold start very well no problem at all and runs smooth until it gets warm and then it starts to shaking sometimes. With diagnostic tool I can see fuel pressure going like heartquake when the problem appear and suddenly return to normal pressure and car runs fine. Also I noticed that when problem appears the MPG goes like 32litersx100km. No engine lights on and no faulty codes.
    What can be?
    Thanks

    Do you have any tips on priming the fuel system after replacing the pump and injectors? I have a Volvo S40 with this engine, I removed/cleaned the injectors and now can't get it to start. I have used a vacuum pump on the return line as per the workshop manual. I have tried another high pressure injector pump and have checked the fuel filter housing for cracks. The o rings in the fuel lines have been replaced and a new fuel filter and seal has been fitted. I connected the vacuum pump to the end of the fuel intake pipe right before it connects to the high pressure pump and primed the fuel up to that point and then connected it to the pump and put the vacuum pump on the return line. I still get some air bubbles going back up the intake pipe. I left the high pressure outlet pipe disconnected and when cranking the engine it doesn't push any fuel through. I have checked the drive dog on the end of the camshaft as I have seen that these can break but this one looks fine and with the high pressure pump removed I can see the camshaft turning when cranking the engine. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

    Hey, u mnie pojawił się taki błąd dopiero po zrobieniu chip tuningu. Podczas dłuższego przyspieszania głównie 5ty, 6sty bieg (zakres 120 do 190 km/h ciągnąc na 5tym biegu), wywala depolution system fault i zapala się check engine (2.0 hdi rhr w c5). Tuner kazał wymienić ten czujnik i wgrał mi fabryczne oprogramowanie. Żadne błedy na fabrycznym programie się nie załączają, nigdy nic się nie pojawiło nawet przez kilkadziesiąt km ostrego butowania. Myślisz czy tuner mógł coś skopać, czy ten czujnik wywala rzeczywiście bład przy duzym obciązeniu zmodyfikowanej mapy.....?
    Dziękuję

      @@mrfixpl other thing I noticed. When the car is running at tickover the fuel pressure is bouncing between 290000 kpa and 310000.then when I shut the engine down drops to 210kpa for a few mins then to zero.

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  5 лет назад

      When you shut the engine, the fuel pump stops and the pressure drops. you will see 210kPa because that's the low end of the sensor with its resolution. And when controller decides to go to standby it shuts down power to all the sensors so you have 0kPa. That's normal.

    Hello @mr-fix, could you please explain which solution has been applied to fix the P0091 error on your car? I've seen your video and at the end you tell that the pump had to be reworked, what exactly have been replaced? My V50 2.0D gives the same error when I push down all the accelerator and only if I keep it pushed for more than 2-3 seconds (maximum power). Looking into Volvo VIDA the error "ECM-0091 Fuel pressure control valve. Signal too low" is related to the other valve, not the VCV but the PCV valve (VDO A2C59506225) which function is "fuel Pressure Control Valve regulates the flow out to the fuel rail. As a result, the pressure in the fuel rail can be adapted to each unique operating condition." Please give me a hint and tell me if you also had problems with misfire/juddering at low power conditions, like in a flat road with a constant and slight acceleration. Thank you!

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  4 года назад +1

      If I remember correctly pump was replaced with another one. Some garages refurbish used pumps, have some of them in stock, sell you refurbished one and take the old one to redo it for someone else. So it's hard to tell what exactly it was the issue.

    • @turbozag77
      @turbozag77 4 года назад +3

      @@mrfixpl I've fixed my V50 2.0D problem: it was the PCV valve (VDO code A2C59506225) installed on the high pressure pump that couldn't mantain a constant fuel pressure when pushing the throttle slightly (FRP unstable around 400-800 Bar, but stable at higher pressure or idling). The mechanic dismounted the pump, replaced the PCV valve and reinstalled the pump, not an expensive work. No vibration or juddering/shuddering at all now!

      Thanks, my 07 s40 2.0d had a fuel filter and housing change and now won't start after full bleeding etc, garage have said their reader states "injector valve fault", it's at a diesel specialist at the moment so I'm figuring out what it could be and what it's going to cost, narrowed it down to this or an injector is at fault, likely to cost a fortune.

      I would check the fuel lines first. Next time have someone to start your car and check if there's no air bubbles in the fuel lines.
      With that mileage your car is going though ~ 10th fuel filter and with that many maintenance service actions the fuel filter housing can crack.
      That's just one of the possible causes.

      Then it would be good to scan the car for DTCs. Also try to cold start it and monitor two parameters with a scanner: RPM and fuel pressure. When the car shuts down you can see if the fuel pressure is steady before it happens or if it's dropping.

      You might wanna check the intake flap (or flaps if you have engine with intercooler bypass valve). Those are shutting close the intake when you turn off the engine and should be 100% open when you are starting it again. If there's a lot (A LOT) of goo in the intake this flap/flaps can stay shut or not fully open and first few tries can look like that. When the engine shakes the chassis hard enough the flap opens.
      But that's a long shot.
      Please try this: next time you park your car at home, open the fuel tank to release the vacuum that's inside. Then close it and come back in the morning. If you can start the car at first try, then most likely there's a leak in the fuel system and the vacuum can suck in some air though the fuel lines or some other way.
