    Nice vid. This one, and the filter change explanation. The small hand pump is no good though.. on a Ford Focus 2.0 Tdci 136kw 2007. You will need to take the small cap off the top of the filter housing and fill with diesel. Also syringing diesel down the line between filter and HP pump will help if you do get stuck using a hand pump, remebering to fill at filter side, then undo the pump side so it flows to the end.. and repeat.. and repeat. You may also need to have a secondary car ready hooked up with cable and high revs to help it along when starting. Plus, while you're there.. bleed the injectors. Well.. that was my Sunday anyway. On a plus side.. Cleared my ESP Fault that I thought was a split turbo pipe or DPF Filter Limp mode issue. Thx Man!

    Tried this method but what it doesn’t show you is how to disconnect the bulb without reintroducing air in to the system before reconnecting the line. Tried to restart it but it just cut out and wouldn’t restart. Ended up towing it up the road and bump starting it.

    Hi I have a 06 smax with same engine do I need to hand prime after replacing in tank electric pump or should it prime itself? I only ask cos I’ve replaced the electric pump but still no fuel is coming up when cranking it over. Thanks

      This was shot in Volvo C30 which doesn't have fuel pickup pump in the tank.
      If you car has one, you can cycle the ignition few times and should be good to go.

      Sorry, I'm not sure how the heater is supplied with fuel and if it's required. Isn't there a separate fuel pump for the heater alone which would self-prime the fuel feed?

    I have a similar issue with the same engine. For some reason , one day i found myself not being able to start it. When i checked under the bonnet , i realized that the fuel line is dry. Tried to bleed it according your video using the return line. But the pressure is so strong that the vacuum pump just cant suck the fuel thru the high pressure pump... any ideea's of what i can do to start it ?

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  6 лет назад +1

      You can try to use high pressure to push the fuel instead of the vacuum to pull it. I'm thinking about blowing air through the return line to the tank. The pressure should push the fuel through the feed line, filter to the pump.
      Also you can turn on the starter just for a second so the high pressure pump moves and stops in different position. I think that if it stops at a certain angle it can lock its input and output.

    • @stuleanecpavel
      @stuleanecpavel 6 лет назад +1

      I managed to start it. Was easyer than expected. I used hand pump. Put it between filter and high pressure pump. Replaced the fuel line with some traditional fuel hoses. Start pumping slowly until i saw fuel going out on the return line. Pushed out about 1l of diesel. Than cranked it. It started after about 5 second . A big puff of smoke from the exhaust but it setled quiqly. The problem was the fuel filter housing. Was breathing thru the ruber seal. I recomend to instal a one way valve before the filter. This way even if you have air leaks the fuel will stay in the filter. In my case it went back to tank and dried out all lines... So.... Fix THE ONE WAY valve. It will help you a lot

    Grerat video, i have a problem with this same engine in a 2009 Mondeo, it would cut out randomly and if left would restart after 15-30 mins, after a week or two it cut out completely and wont restart. This happened just after an overtake manouver and the revs were leveling out. It now refuses to start and i have faults P0087/P0088/P0089 all relating to fuel system. I have replaced the fuel filter as a first port of call and it didnt look great, reprimed the system but still no go. Looking at live data i have a healthy cranking speed avergaing 250 rpm but the fuel pressure is reading way too low at roughly 30-50kpa. When the vehicle was recovered he tried some easy start but would have non of it. Belt has only done 3000 miles fitted by ford, still tensioned and turning. Please help me im going bald trying to get to the bottom of this. Thankyou

    Hi mr fix, I have a mk3 galaxy tdci 2.0 2006, i few months ago while going along the engine malfunction warning displayed on the screen and the engine cut out, tryed starting it and it fired up. same thing happened aging but more often, had fuel filter (not genuine) changed and crank and cam sensor no better. garage said needs new fuel pump.
    I got forscan and the codes are P0003 regulator circuit, i have been through all the wiring and all are good. The car runs perfect and can sit for a couple of weeks and it will start straight up. when it does cut out i don't get any warning like rough running or juddering.
    The car does not go into limp mode just cuts out.
    I do have some bubbles in the fuel line from filter to pump but i think i had them from when i got the car and have done 15k miles without problem.
    what i have noticed is that when its running if i juggle or rattle the fuel filter housing i get a lot more bubbles.
    Hope that you can help me.
    i get good mpg.
    i have posted a link to a video on here that is the excect same problem but the guy has not updated with any results.
    You videos are great.

      This kind of cutout is usually caused by timing chain/belt and sensors. If the synchronization between sensors is lost, ECU thinks that timing chain/belt might snap and turn the engine off.
      Also the P0003 code - there's a valve that regulates amount of fuel that goes from the high-pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail. If that valve is stuck open because of some kind of contamination (like aluminum parts from the fuel pump) you can also get a cut off because of the risk of damaging the engine. Or if the pressure sensor on the fuel rail is faulty ECU sense false pressure above the limit and cuts off.

    • @mrfixpl

      Most likely the fuel filter housing is cracked or the o-ring is not sitting right. But this amount of air wouldn't cause engine cut off.

      Hi Mr fix, hope that you had a good christmas. Just an update to my problem, I have gone through all the wires, no problem. i have now changed the fuel volume regulator, drove 100 miles cut out again. I still get the p0003, what i have noticed is that when the car is running i do see air in the fuel lines, and if i juggle the fuel filter housing about i get loads of air, i dont know how it gets in there or if its normal to get bubbles if you juggle the housing about while engine running/ . One other thing, while i was going . through the wiring i noticed that one of the wire from the fuel regulator plugs splits and all so feeds the fuel solenoid to on the pump, in thinking this, if the problem was with the solenoid then and it shares the same wire it could trip p0003. i call the regulator the one under side of the pump and the solenoid the one on the top held in with two torqs
      screws
      many thanks . steve

    hi again,
    so you can prime this without the pump? By just revving it high a few times after starting as shown? or you still need the initial pump action before doing so?
    your help will be greatly appreciated.

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  8 лет назад

      +No Way if you don't open the fuel cap before disconnecting fuel lines the vacuum in the tank will suck the fuel system dry. Then you need to pump the fuel to bleed the system.
      If you released the vacuum from the tank first, then you should be able to just rev it few times.

      Usually there's no leak, because the fuel system works with vacuum.
      You can check after night, when you open the fuel filler cup if there's still vacuum in the system. If not, then there's a hole that the air goes in.

    I did this to day and had problem to get fule to the filter, fist i just filled filter houseing half way whit fule like its was when i take out old filter.trying to dont make a mess LOL.then tryed to prime the return pipe whit gas boat primer pump (as i watched on yt),,got some air out and fule.started up and its dies after like 5 sec :(. i then had made big problem i manged to empty the fule filter houseing and was start pumping air in the line,and no fule had come back to filter house from the tank.
    I then open filter houseing filled it to maxs or even more hell of mess then opening bleed srew on top, put it back to getter,closed bleed screw. first 2 cranks and its starts :)I hold like 2k rpm for 1 min ,first try i real mess up, i was to obses whit this primer pump on return pipe (Like i looked on yt), but when i got it to work i didnt even used the primer pump.
    So the "Magic" is to just fill the filter houseing to maxs just make mess put rags under :) and open bleed srew and close it when it when filter house its locked down agian and then make sure the out line to highpresser pump is full of fule. i learned the hard way. hope my high fule pressur pump didnt taken any dmg from my first attempt.

      I would check if injectors are working correctly. If one of them is stuck open or not closing properly when cold, it could smoke.
      To check spray patterns you would have to remove injectors from the engine. But you can start with a simple flow test. It's non-invasive and can give you some idea where to look next.

      If the fuel pump is faulty it can present in many different ways: pressure too low, pressure too high, leaking, noise and heat, trouble maintaining fuel pressure at high revs...
      Is the P0003 code coming back after you clear it from the car? Also I think that I state wrong that the fuel pressure would cut off the engine. It should go into limp mode if the fuel pressure is not in expected range.

      Hi mr fix, once again thank you for the rely, After the engine malfunction light comes on and the display reads the same, some times if i just keep trying to restart the engine it will restart and the display goes off, or if i just leave it for a while it sometimes just goes off and then it will start as normal.
      If i clear the code with forscan and try to start the car it just comes back on, cleaing the code makes no difference at all.
      The reason i dont think the garage is right about the fuel pump is that it runs perfect until it cuts out, which can be every two mile or every 80 miles, it does it while moving or idling .
      what i did do a few weeks ago when the car was in a good mood and running was i turned the car off and i diconncted the plug tht goes to the fuel volume regulator, i got the same symptoms, p0003 and engine malfunction displaying on the dash and the same sound when cranking.
      i refitted the plug and it started straight away. I really appriciate your help and wish i was local to you as you would have my car in your garage.

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  6 лет назад

      I also think that if it was a It's a long shot but you can try this:
      The volume valve is controlled with 12V. The positive line goes through a fuse and relay to the battery and the ECU is controlling the negative line. The should be OK as this issue affects only this one part. But the fuse and it's socket and the wiring itself can be damaged.
      Any correlation with weather condition?
      Try reading the fuel rail pressure when it cuts off and you try to start it. If it's below minimum (valve stuck closed) or sky high.

    • @hikermans4783
      @hikermans4783 6 лет назад

      I went from end to end on the wires that came from it, no broken or anything. i did also clean all fuse terminals and changed the relay with another the same in the fusebox, still the same as i thought if that worked then i would have something else not working. So wish i could get a garage as helpful as you are. i dont have loads of money to spend on it as this time of year for my trade is quite, i was thinking maybe i should just change the regulator and then at least that will eliminate that. the only problem with that is i don't know how to depressurise the fuel system, bleeding it back up should be ok as i have watched your videos a lot.
      Weather has no difference, it started happening in the summer and still doing it. I have just looked at the live data and although i don't understand it to much, i have a recording of it when it while the fault happened, the fuel pressure goes down very quickly along with the revs. i would put a picture up but dont know how to s i think that you would be able to tell me more.
      thanks

    Would / could this be the reason my 2.0 diesel Kuga sometimes turns over for a while before it starts??

      An injector may have crap in it, so it's losing fuel pressure through the leak-off pipe. The engine has to churn to build pressure back up before the injectors will open. Try using a decent injector cleaner like Diesel Purge at a high concentration. Just drive normally let it give the system a good soak. Eventually you'll get back to whirr-whirr-bruum.

      if you're talking about the priming tool - it's a vacuum pump.

      Most likely you have broken seal or perforation on the fuel line.

    Hello. I watched your videos on replacing the fuel filter on Ford Kuga and the second on the purge of the diesel system after replacement. Your videos are great!!! Property realized!!
    Also I have a question about the bleeding. Is it necessary after replacing the diesel filter??
    Thanks again bravo for your videos. And thank you very much

      As far as I know it is not, but than you risk cranking until you drain the battery because there will be air instead of fuel running through the lines. A friend that is mechanic suggested to rev it hard at first startup to eliminate the air but definitely this is not the best case

      it is a one way valve you can usually find at your parts store and some flexible fuel line attached to it, some models have the valve already fitted from factory, my Fiesta 1,4 TDCI had it, today I am replacing the fuel filter on the 2.0HDI Citroen and I hope there is one already factory fitted

      Be aware many of these diesel's don't have/need the manual priming pump. As a general rule of thumb if it's not there, it's not needed. You can change the diesel filter, etc. and then simply prime it "normally" via the lifting pump in the tank.
      Turn ignition on a few times. Let it prime, turn off. Repeat Do this a few times. Followed by a start with some healthy revs... Never missed a beat! It's way simpler. ;-)

      @@crpth1 there’s no lifting pump in this car. Only high pressure pump under the hood.
