I just bought one of these for my Canon 5d mk3. I got a mint condition lens for $449. Thanks for the video review, and I totally agree with you that people shouldn't get so caught up in needing the absolute best cutting-edge gear.
Great review! Some very strong points made as well regarding making choices based on practicality and real world scenarios - I’m with you. Keep it coming dude :)
Great video! I have the Tamron 24-70 f/2 Di VC USD lens on my Nikon D750 and love it, along with a 50mm 1.8 Nikon lens! I agree with all your comments!
I have the G2 version of this lens. I love it. The build quality is substantially better than the old lens and at least equal to the Nikon version. It is optically superb. It has a more modern look than the Nikon and with the Tamron Tap-in console you can calibrate the lens for really superior results and easily update the firmware. The latest firmware updates now support the Z series cameras
I really liked my Tamron. I'm hoping that Tamron and Sigma and all of the third-party lens companies come out with s Mount lenses. I don't like working with the adapter. The other day I went out shooting and forgot that I had left the adapter on one of the lenses I didn't take with me so I had four lenses in my bag that I couldn't use.
I realize your video was made a while back, I’m glad I came across it. I just picked up the Tamron 24-70 online and I’m anxiously waiting for it to be shipped. Your video made me feel happy that I chose to buy it.
@@BillEricPhotography I bought a preowned D800 from KEH camera. Stepped up from a D5100. The lens is the original version. The G2 was out of my price range but maybe down the road I’ll pick on up.
On the d800 that will be a fantastic lens. The reason I asked is it doesn't work with the Nikon mirrorless cameras. As long as you are using an f-mount DSLR you'll be fine
I bought this lens just before Generation 2 was introduced. I didn't know the follow-up was coming out, but the price should have been a clue. However, I have no complaints. Its performance has been great, and I would completely agree with your review.
I was in the same exact boat I didn't realize the next generation was right around the corner. But I really have had no complaints either. The lens is a workhorse and I have been super happy with it so far. Both of my Tamron zoom lenses have far out performed my expectations of them.
Just an FYI for anyone reading this. The G2 does not necessarily represent Generation 2. For instance, the 70-200 F/2.8 Tamron has a G2 as well, but it's actually a 4th generation of that lens.
With the help of this video, I bought a used Tamron 24-70(first version) for my d750, its like new, sharp($470). Thanks for the this video. Can’t wait to use this lens at Disney in 30 days.

Thanks for the review and comparison. I have an opportunity to purchase a used Tamron 24-70(original version), less then $600. I do like my Nikon 24-120 f4, just would like a 2.8.
Hi Bill, I wrote in your other video the other day about receiving m50 and moving from Fujifilm. I like it, good dynamic range and am looking into adapting. Originally, my plan was to build kit starting with Sigma 30 f1.4, to the 16 1.4 and grab a 50 1.8 nifty to cover the main ranges. I have seen wonders of the 24-70 canon for variety of situations and only found out Tamron / Sigma both have sale now with Tamron 24-70 G2 being $1350 from $1999 CAD/ The new Sigma Art 24-70 zoom is too bulky and heavy.. For someone wanting to shoot fashion photography, portraits, food and just all-around including events, would you rather the zoom or the 3 primes? Thank you
The zoom will be easier to use. You don't have to change lenses as much but the prints will give you a more unique look. I tend to shoot zooms, Eric shoots mostly primes. Check out our Instagrams and you will see what I mean. @ericweberohoto @billsferrazza
I'm now considering upgrading from my beloved Nikon D750 to either the 780 or 850 or even the mirrorless ZII. I'm a photojournalist here in Chicago and I'd like your opinion on which direction to take! :)
Hello, Would you still recommend this lens in 2021? I can get a ‘like new’ used one for 400 GBP but the g2 is around £1000. I have heard they are pretty much the same optically. I would be using it to start doing portraits and such. Am I better off getting the g2 or is the g1 still good? Have you tested the weather sealing on the g1? A good seal is a must for me living in the UK... it’s more rainy than not here! Thanks guys
Hi, it really depends if you are going to stay using a DSLR then this is a fine lens. If you think you're going to be moving into mirrorless camera soon then I wouldn't get it because it's not compatible with Nikon's mirrorless cameras. I'm not sure about Canon and Sony.
Hello, i have a Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 Canon G1, and i have a issue when i record video. The images " jumps" sometimes and I can hear the sound of aperture even though I don't change it, and also subjects appear with some red marks around them, like I'm manually focusing(it stops the servo autofocus for 1-2 seconds) . This is what happens when the image jumps. Plus the recording sometimes stops when the images jumps. . What could be the problem? The aperture, VC or the autofocus?🤔🥺 I used this lens on 2 bodys: Canon M50-my camera, and Canon Rp-from one friend.
I actually use this with a Canon 7d mark ii crop size sensor and I get awesome results. I love the colors it produces. I actually enjoy 24-70 on crop size because in my opinion, I like images of people 100+mm. The widest for my crop is about 38mm which is fine for most of the images I shoot.
+fractal_force this is definitely a great lens for any camera. I use my 70 to 200 for my longer shots and I like the 24 mmm wide and on this one but I definitely could see using it the way you do. It's a nice mid-range with lens on a crop sensor camera. Probably great for portraits! Bill
I had the Sony A72 which was really awesome. Had some issues with the commlite adapter, little issue with Sigma mc-11 adapter and I returned them both. The IS on the Sigma adapter didn't give me the option to stabilize on the sensor and I couldn't enable it. I had it enabled on the lens but I didn't think it was actually stabilizing my Tamrom 24-70 vc. So was going to get the metabones and at that point, I just sold it and I'll wait for either a full frame Canon to come out or just stick with 7d mark 3 when it comes out. Or maybe wait for Canon 5d mark 3 price to go down or maybe get the Canon 6d mark 2 since the price is dropping.. I compared both shots between the Sony A7 mark 2 and Canon 7d mark 2 and to be honest, I didn't really see any benefit with full frame but a little better bokeh. Low light was actually close enough to not really make a difference. The main thing I miss about the Sony was the built in IS and being able to zoom in using the EVF when I manual my Samyang 85 f1.2 which is such a beautiful lens. So it was bitter sweet to sell the full frame Sony but I'm still on the fence about switching but still in limbo.
well i'm not worry about the lens being heavy but i want to buy the tamron g2 cause i'm not going to spend over a 1000 dollars on a camera lens. i really want to get the 18-35 from sigma and the 24mm 1.4 from sigma and the 70-200 from sigma and the 24-70 from tamron along with the 2 i already have i should be straight right
@@BillEricPhotography hey, i just read your reply, and i bought this lens and i am using with my nikon z6, and works, just that i found that autofocus its very slow.
Great question. It depends on the maximum aperture of the 35 or 50 lens. If those have a max of 2.8 then there would be no difference. If those have a max aperture of 1.4, then you would probably get a slightly better image from the 35 or 50 stopped down to 2.8. Most lenses perform best when stopped down a few stops from maximum so the zoom wide open at 2.8 would not be quite as good as a 1.4 lens stopped down to 2.8. But again, only if you look really closely. A casual observer would probably not see much difference.
+Jose L yes it will. the only difference is it will be stabilized so you might be able to shoot at a slower shutter speed. on the other hand if you use those prime lenses you're going to be able to open them up a little bit more if you need to let more light into the camera.~Bill

i want to buy this lens and the 35-150mm all from tamron. but i want to buy the tamron 35mm and 85mm and i already have a 18-200 zoom lens but i want a much better lens.
You’d be better off with just the 24-70, the 35 and the 85. Then look for a cheap long zoom like a 70-200 f/4
@@BillEricPhotography so what do i do with that tamron 18-200 lens give it away to my son
@@BillEricPhotography the 24mm and the 35mm do i need the both of them or just one of them. i just want to try them out and see if i really like them but i need your help
sure
You will want the versatility of the 24-70 zoom
