- Is turmeric really helpful to reduce inflammation?
Is it safe to use high doses of turmeric in supplement capsules?
Is it enough just to add turmeric to my diet? Will I get the anti-inflammatory benefits?

Hi dr Andrea, great video on Turmeric! Great channel!
I love Turmeric, I used to make turmeric latte to stop any pain naturally.
Turmeric contains the chemical curcumin.
Curcumin and other chemicals in turmeric might decrease swelling (inflammation).
To intensify its benefit, it must be consumed with black pepper.
Thank you for watching. Consider subscribing to my channel. I have a lot of videos about chronic pain.
Good
Katherine....did you watch the video? Why are you repeating to her what she just said? Maybe you should take Adderall with your curcumin.
This is the best comment I've received on this video. I pinned it on the top of all comments.
Thank you
Traditionally in India, we apply turmeric powder directly on the cut wounds some times along with pure coconut oil, which helps heel and bind the would. Turmeric works as antiseptic too..
That is very interesting.
I got operated of multiple fibroids on 16 June 2022, the biggest one was 14cm and it is taking long for the wound to heal. The Dr only prescribed painkillers for me... Sometimes the scar swells up and becomes reddish. Please what can I use to heal completely, and now I'm diagnosed with ovarian cysts 🤦♀️I'm in pain. Help me please.
Very true.
In India, every spice we use has natural and herbal benefits.
Hi u
Would it tint your skin yellow? I noticed even when I get some on my fingers when I’m cooking it’s there for three or four days, despite scrubbing with soap and water.
People need to be aware, however, that it takes time for herbs to be effective but, when they are, they are excellent!
How much time?
@@theminer4908 i need it quick and i need it now!!
Hi Dr. Andrea, thank you for your summary of curcumin as a therapeutic for inflammation. It would be more appropriate to compare curcumin to Tocilizumab or Sarilumab as it inhibits IL6 and does not really act as a traditional NSAID. Inhibition of IL6 does help with inflammation, but it also has negative consequences for the kidney, liver, urinary bladder, gall bladder, etc. It is important for immunity and tissue regeneration. In other words, the clinical trial on post operative patients should have never been approved. I hope that you will clarify the difference between cox1, cox2, and IL6 antagonists to the public. Realising the difference between these inflammatory pathways can help people to make educated decisions. Keep well and I hope you keep up the good work 🙂
Great suggestion for a future video.
The effect of taking Turmeric and Curcumin for me was insurmountable in comparison with other drugs that I had been prescribed.
Opioids, morphine and anti inflammatory drugs were the worst for me in terms of pain management. It was turmeric and curcumin that made a world of difference for me.
Here is an easy recipe to incorporate turmeric in your diet: take 1 cup raw turmeric root, white and orange, add 1 cup ginger root. Add 1 teaspoon black pepper powder. Juice of 6 lemons. Quarter cup ghee. I tablespoon salt. Quarter t pink Himalayan salt. Quarter cup honey. 8 cloves of garlic. Blend to a purée. Divide into seven parts. Keep in fridge. Add to your main meal of the day, one part per person. I have added this to a chipotle burrito bowl, pasta, burger, eaten it on fries, added to hummus. If you skip the garlic, salt, and lemons, you can add this to your fruit smoothie too.
I’m gonna leave out one salt and honey (I have reversed diabetes by not using sugars even natural ones raise blood) but use Himalayan a bit, the rest sounds good 😀
@@bloochoob how did you reverse diabetes? Stopped carbs, fruits and what else ? So What do you get to eat?!!

Thank you for your channel about chronic pain. I subscribed. Thank you for helping, may you be a blessed doctor. I'm 70 years old and the pain is increasing, I'm trying.
Hi doc, just found your channel. Very informative. I am a mid 60's male. I do cardio in the morning and weights at night, so I always have some of soreness. I tried Turmeric last year for 6 months. Not exactly a double blind placebo controlled study I know. But I had absolutely no change when I started it and none when I stopped. Though I did have one serious side affect. My Levothyroxin was binding to something in the Turmeric preparation and was totally screwing with my TSH levels. I have before and after labs to prove it. That said, I have not had a nighttime calf spasm since I increased my Mag. citrate level to 400mg per day about a year ago.
Interesting, especially the part about the t4 results.
Do you take magnesium everyday?
This is so interesting to me. I also use Levothyroxine as my thyroid has been irradiated.

I have been filling my own turmeric capsules for a while now. Buying a pound of organic, at a time online.
Taking 2 500-550 mg capsules at night, leaves me waking up pain free and with no stiffness!
I've also been growing for 4 years, and think I should investigate the rhyzomes for usage, and to replant!
It should be noted that tumeric is also a natural blood thinner.

For minor injuries on feet and hands a hot paste made of turmeric and white lime may be applied on the places of injuries and swelling twice daily. This will reduce the pain and swelling. Indian villagers do this while getting injured. But the injuries should be of minor nature.

Hi Doc Furlan, so happy to see a doctor do both medicine and herbs and natural remedies. What would be nice is if you could review the best supplements that are worth buying....like ones you have tried and found to be potent. Just a suggestion.

Indonesia has not only *regular turmeric* , but also *white turmeric* and *black turmeric* . Regular turmeric _(curcuma domestica)_ is used for cooking Indonesian food and for making _jamu_ or Indonesian herbal medicine to maintain good physical health. White turmeric is not as popular as regular turmeric. It is usually used for cancer treatment here. There are three kinds of white turmeric known here on the island of Java: _curcuma zedoaria, curcuma mangga_ and _kaempferia rotunda_ . The black turmeric _(curcuma aeruginosa)_ is not popular, either. It is used to rid the body of threadworm infections. These three kinds of turmeric are sold in traditional markets throughout Indonesia. To buy white turmeric and black turmeric, however, people need to order first. The herbal ingredient seller needs time to get those roots because they are not popular.

It would be useful to convert the milligrams you mention to quantities we use in the kitchen. Most of us don't have scales at home to measure weight in milligrams.

Of course, if you experimentally take "double" the amount of anything that any population is habituated to you should be aware of problems popping up. I would not try to eat the hot peppers that some populations are habituated to either. I take 1/4 about 500mgs per day. I want the benefits without the problems. I (love x 2) Indian food, but I always order it mild. The lowest effective dose of pepper is usually the best.

So long story short I would get sudden headaches that would last 45 to 90mins probably 3-4 times a week. Alot of times they would be pretty bad and I would have to lay down for a little. I believe they were migraines. This was pretty consistent for maybe 4-5 years or so.
About 6 months ago i stopped using salt and spices on my food and started using straight black pepper and turmeric. In my eggs, chicken, fish, even on a sandwich (taste good honestly)
Now I maybe get a mild headache once every two weeks. Pretty much the random mild headache of a normal person. It legit 100% without a doubt works.
As a fellow migraineur, I'm glad that you don't have these torturous headaches as often.
My son had severe migraines between the ages of 4 years old and 12 years old. A chiropractor told me he had a cervical disc that was pressing against a nerve. He did an adjustment and the migraines went away. Now as an adult he goes in for adjustments about once a year. Migraines completely gone.
Ok good to know i def will give it ago already got it as powder and tablet
Disclaimer should come first. Thanks for excellent information.

How come that the use of turmeric had no positive effect in the study you present, yet there is a side negative effect in using it? I find your info bit confusing. The study you present was made on people with anevrism, involved in a major surgery, yet we are talking about bones and articulations, and pains and inflammations that we carry on for decades.
Hi Luiza, there are not a lot of studies about turmeric.
@@DrAndreaFurlan Dr. Michael Greger in his book" How not to die" quotes at least 4 clinical trials using turmeric. One was in ulcerative colitis and another was as an anticancer agent. I am sorry I can't give you the exact references but I don't have my book with me at the moment.
Hi Rhiannon, but these conditions that you mentioned are not chronic pain. I only review the evidence for the conditions that I treat. I do not treat UC or cancer, so I am not familiar with these conditions and I don't want to pretent that I know about these conditions.
@@DrAndreaFurlan I am pretty sure one of the others was in the case of rheumatoid arthritis. When I can check the references I'll check in again. He also mentioned a trial of ginger being as good as ibuprofen in osteoarthritis.

👍that was great, Dr! Thank you! I take it a lot but without taking note of the quantity, as you mentioned in the video. Although it is always at most 2 teaspoons in warm water at a time. So how do I know or measure the quantity to take per day?
