- Ol' faithful (the Philips CAM110) has battery/charging issues, so a new camera was necessary for RUclips. This means that we will be using decent equipment on the channel for once! Point & Shoot cameras have improved a lot over the last 5 years or so, making video a real possibility. This Nikon Coolpix L820 is an excellent example with a fantastic sounding microphone and very good quality video, but an iffy focus.
Wow! The audio is so nice, and so is the color output, I love it man! Like you said though, the auto-focus looks like it doesn't work too well, but as long as the video is steady enough and/or on a tripod it won't matter too much.
I had an earlier one from this series (L310). For stills, the quality was good. The 21x zoom was very good. I'd take it with me when cycling, and it was as good as a small pair of binoculars for spotting things in the distance. The main letdown was the crap quality video, but it looks like they've fixed that on the later one. The focus speed looks acceptable.
I always hoped they'd release a firmware update to fix the video on the L310, but they never did.
Tip: The resolution with asterisk is "fine" quality JPG, and that's what you want. Took me ages to work that out. I've no idea why these cameras default to low quality in this day and age.
AA batteries, the zoom, the macro and the flash make it a great travel camera.

I had a Coolpix L320 for awhile I used for RUclips. Was a ok Cam. I used it to record my first RV video. But it had a sad fall to the ground, and the lens would no longer come out. I ended up using my sony handycam, or the gopro hero 3, or my new Canon Rebel T3 with Magic lantern on it.
I think that's better than my camera that cost 6x as much in 2009 LOL.

Great review video😁👏. I have this camera. Got it as a gift few years ago. I am just now trying to learn to use it😂. So far I'm not pleased because all of my shots are so blurry. I can only get a clear shot if the subject and I remain very still. I don't know about cameras. I wanted to know does my blur problem have to do with shutter speed ? Can it be fixed? Or is my camera damaged? Thanks 😃

Casey Cityhall Not that I know of. It's a hybrid point and shoot, so it's not going to have super high end features.

i have the L820 and its a pretty decent camera, i use the nicad rechargeable batteries, my batteries are about 3 years old and still can get several hours of video before they die. im assuming you get many hours from the lithium, maybe i will get them next time.

I think the 30 minute limit is some stupid EU rule. If I remember correctly, a camera that can record above 30 minute segments is considered a videocamera and the camera would be more expensive as a result. For whatever stupid reason....
Why a big lens. If you want low light videographic. You have to see on the aperture of the lens. How lower the number f1.8 how more light it comes in.

hey man ik its been 7 years since this came out but i just got given one of these cameras and have been having trouble getting it to turn on with new alkaline batteries. it turned on for one second said battery exhausted and shut off ive been trying rechargable batteries now and nothing things not doing a thing wondering of you might know anything about it

Are your photos on a SD card? If so you can buy SD adapter that connects to your phone
What's the battery life if you're running on normal AA Batteries?
MusicHaven2012 Not great. I wouldn't recommend using them on this particular camera. It's a bit power hungry.

I have the l840 and the microphone quality is much worse than this cameras
I have a Cannon camera i got from radio shack anyway I use Duracell rechargeable battery trust me when I say buy these you buy one pack of them with the charger and they will give you months of power and they will save you money
CountryNerd98 Those are probably the NiMh batteries I mentioned. I would like to give those a try in my camera. Amazon sells some that look decent.
When I still used my Nikon Coolpix L320 I had some EBL 2800mAh Ni-MH Which worked well in it. Had a bad day recording ones where i had to start over allot times so the batteries put up with me for around 4-5 Hours of straight recording off a single charge. These days the batteries are used in my Portable USB Battery bank that takes AA Batteries. Kept my phone and Tablet charged well during a power outage.
