This is the most identifiable opening guitar riff in rock and roll. The Dirty fuzz sound that Keith Richards gets along with Mick Jagger's attitudinal lyrics made for an immediate anthem that has lasted to this day. It caught the tenor of the times.

This is the first song I remember hearing by the Rolling Stones, and I was very young (early 1960s). Teenage girls freaked out over the Beatles, but TV producers recognized the Stones were more dangerous because it was clear from the beginning that Mick Jagger wanted to do more than hold hands.

I was fortunate to be on stage with the Rolling Stones and Ian Stewart in '66 and someone was hanging on the curtain trying to attack to the Stones, and Ian Stewart their Road and sound manager used a broom to hit and knock him off the curtain, the fans were wild and I was one lucky guy to be on the same stage with the Rolling Stones, thanks to Ian Stewart who played piano for the Stones and was a great guy. RIP Ian Stewart.

This was the first Rolling Stones #1 hit single in 1965 that Jagger & Richards wrote for the band... They recorded a Beatles song "I wanna be your man" which became a hit in 1964 ... But it was 'Satisfaction' that gave them a #1 international hit.
According to guitarist Keith Richards, he woke up one night and had the urge to record this riff on tape and drowsily recalled picking up his guitar and recorder... then, he went back to sleep... The next morning, he picked up his recorder and listened - there was his riff for 'Satisfaction'... for a little bit, and then the sound of him snoring for the rest of the tape 😂
'Satisfaction' was the hit that the Rolling Stones needed to get to that next level of popularity and encouraged Jagger and Richards to write their own songs, rather than record covers by other artists... their 1965 album 'Out of our heads' went to #1 in the US charts. That same year, they had another #1 hit single - "Get off of my cloud".
In 1966, their album 'Aftermath' went to #1 in the UK, #2 in the US... composed entirely of Jagger/ Richards songs.
When The Rolling Stones went on tour in 1966, they had a reputation as the "bad boys of rock n' roll" (whereas The Beatles were considered the "nice boys"... It was actually the other way round. The Rolling Stones came from 'proper' London suburbs, while The Beatles were raised in the turbulent, brawling countryside in Liverpool)... So, the fans had the tendency to mob The Rolling Stones in their early days.
Back in the 60's, bands who toured did not have the equipment or the amps to play anything bigger than the theaters that hosted their concerts... The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who... all toured America (and Europe) playing these smaller venues.
The Beatles got so big that they had to play much bigger venues, but without the equipment needed to make themselves audible to the gigantic audiences... All bands would play sets under 1 hr before they took a break and waited for the next set...
It wasn't until Led Zeppelin took off in the 70's that there was an effort to make better equipment and monitors so that bands and artists could play bigger venues like sporting arenas and stadiums and the crowd could actually hear them play. The business of booking a band to play short 1 hr sets a few times a day was eventually replaced by bands playing longer sets once a night... The Rolling Stones were huge by the 70's and would only get bigger as more hits came from their catalog of music.

The story goes that Keith woke up in the middle of the night turned on his cassette recorder and layed down the intro riff then fell back asleep. In the morning, the recorder had the iconic riff and 45 minutes of Keith snoring!
Was #1 on the top 40 the ENTIRE summer of '65!😂❤❤

These days though you hear led Zeppelin more on satellite radio with rolling Stones and other rock bands.

The Stones are popularly called "The Greatest R&R Band in the World." You've listened to four GREAT songs, yet you have only scratched the surface of their diskogrophy. The Stones have more "classic" songs than ANY other band. Of the "Big Four Bands", The Stones nearly kept pace with The Beatles, and then outlasted them. The Stones significantly pre-dated Led Zeppelin, and outlasted them. The Who had a few very significant Albums, but far less hits, and were outlasted. Jagger and Richards are still here, outlasting everyone!

Love you shouting out the "small instruments" ... As a musician and band guy and Studio guy, it's one thing to be in a studio and get creative with a mix, but what I love about bands from this era which is really the 60s and the 70s, was the day with masterfully use these and weave an incredible mix during live performances, even though the sound equipment in general was just so primitive compared to what we have today.
A great use of the mouth harp, which nowadays is considered to be the non derogatory term for that mouth instrument, is The Band, Up On Cripple Creek. It was a hit for them and it's a huge fan favorite. I know you would love it. In fact now that I think about it it might have a cowbell in it as well, so you get two small instruments for one!

Well this makes me feel a little bit on the "older" side of life. I remember when this song came out, and it was a pretty cool song that's for sure! I was only about 11 years old. But I'm grateful I got to live through the entire rock and roll, and Motown era and so many since then. Anyway, check out, Let's Spend the Night Together. I loved that song as a young guy. I didn't quite understand all the lyrics, though! hahaha But I thought it was great music by the Stones!

I love this song too. I can't remember where I heard it, but the story I got was that Mick and someone were sitting around talking about how old the devil must be, having been around "a long long year," and that probably if he was so old and experienced that he would be quite sophisticated too. A man of taste. Not sure if Mick was doing what Robert Johnson was said to be doing--kind of selling one's soul to the devil so that one could "stream" Beezlebub and never be able to get out alive. That is a permanent trade. Mick never claimed to have sold his soul, as far as I know. The Stones may have lived like demons, but to me it was an act. That is, Jumpin' Jack Flash was a great talent, but, like Black Sabbath, as far as I know, or Led Zep for that matter, weren't significantly schooled in or experienced in the black arts, in general, for it to even be worth a serious mention. But, I agree, great song! Thanks man.

"Satisfaction" has one of the dirtiest guitar riffs ever, created by Keith Richards back in 1965. To fully appreciate this song, you have to consider the softer sound in early 60's. Your four reactions have been to the "classic" Brian Jones era (1964-68). Many believe the Stones were even greater during the Mick Taylor era (1968-75). Taylor is an amazing Blues guitarists, who added a whole new Bluesy feel. Please react to "Sway", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "Angie", "Winter", or Live "Midnight Rambler" ("Get Yer Ya Yas Out" Album).
