@@Jericho363 it was a song that every kid with a guitar first learned to play. very easy to play...made you sound like you knew what you were doing right from the start! another easy song like that back then was "gloria", by The Shadows of Knight.

The Animals were part of the original British invasion in the 1960's. There were loads of British bands came over at that time and most of them appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. I.R.S. Records was an American record label founded by Miles Copeland III, Jay Boberg, and Carl Grasso in 1979.[1] I.R.S. produced some of the most popular bands of the 1980s, and was particularly known for issuing records by college rock, new wave and alternative rock artists, including R.E.M., The Go-Go's, Wall of Voodoo, and Fine Young Cannibals. Currently the label is distributed by parent company Universal Music Group.[2]

GREAT reaction! This song is classic and timeless, and yet is clearly 60’s vibe in the very best way. One of the most insidiously infective songs ever recorded. Covered by literally hundreds of artists, but the Animals own it as THE definitive version. Haunting, subtly sinister, it will infect your DNA so hearing it for the 5000th time is as strong as the first. The House of the Rising Sun calls you forever. My strongest recommendations for follow up would be Inside Looking Out and Don’t Bring Me Down. Stick with the studio versions rather than looking for live performances for these.

In 1970, Eric Burdon teamed up with the US Funk group, War, and recorded the hit song, “Spill The Wine”. This was the first group sent to America after the Beatles (a few months before the Rolling Stones). Their management made them dress in "Beatle suits" and get the "Beatle haircuts", to try to captitalize on the popularity of the fab four. Eric Burden is the star here, however, the keyboardist name was the only one put on the royalties (his name was first) so he got almost all the royalties. Burden and the rest of the band was pissed.

It's unknown for certain exactly what the origin of the song is. Many believe it was a brothel and others believe it was a prison. It's also unknown if it was a real place or fictional. Given the timeline which may date back as early as the mid to late 1800's I'm inclined to believe it is in fact real. The Animals also changed a previous lyric to gambling to make it more radio friendly.

Today, it continues to be a label of great diversity, thriving on discovering talent in areas such as pop, rock, folk, Americana, country and many more.' So much talent recorded under the DECCA label too, too many to even attempt to post here. I'll just say, look up this label to read the many singers (solo, duos and group) on this label.

Unrelated to the music but in the end of the video I absolutely love the guitar guy just cheesing the hell out smiling, the bass guy being big ass guy just doing his job even though he nailed it more than the guitar guy, the keyboardist looking like he's going to murder you if you look at him wrong. Perfect band stuff.

Hey MMB, another great choice. I really hoped you would do a reaction to the classic "House of the Rising Sun". This song has astoundingly ferocious vocals and mesmerizing keyboards. I have really been enjoying your recent exploration of slightly more modern music. But I most love whenever you dip back into the classic 60's and early-70's.
So, the next time you are ready for one of the greatest 60's blues vocals, keyboards, and drums, please do a reaction to Joe Cocker's "Little Help From My Friends" at Woodstock. One of the few performances up there with Janis Joplin's "Ball and Chain".

2:25 I would strongly recommend to check out the various hits that you just listed off reading that article, they are all great songs. I particularly love, we gotta get out of this place. When I was a kid and heard it on the radio all the time I just like the chorus and the energy and the feel of it. But as an older person, now that I've been through a lot of struggles in life, I really get the theme of the lyrics and the way that they get communicated. It's pretty dang powerful but it's also catchy of course which is why it was a hit. But all of those songs that you rattled off are fantastic.

The House of the Rising Sun was and maybe still is, a real establishment / boarding house.
Located in New Orleans and a last chance refuge for women with no future..... drunks, addicts, criminals, homeless etc.
Said to be originally from a woman’s perspective, it became known from a man’s perspective, even when sung by a woman.
The version that inspired The Animals was sung by a man, but he had done his homework and deliberately sung out from a woman’s perspective...... as did the Animals, even if they didn’t know it. ......
Change one word, girl to boy, and a man can sing the best known women’s version in preference to the different men’s version.
For those who do not know...... things were different in the late 1800’s.
Women’s refuges and other such places were not nice or civil.
Once there, you could expect a short life full of pain, anguish and fear.
