The woman singing is the legendary Rosemary Butler. The guy playing the lap steel guitar, and singing falsetto is the highly underrated, master of all string instruments, David Lindley.

Yes! The one and only David Lindley. His voice is also quite remarkable.

David Lindley is a master on the strings. Saw him live with Jackson Browne in the 70’s. They did an acoustic version of “The Dancer” (Browne on the grand piano and Lindley on a metallic blue violin) that killed!

David was phenomenal musician and King of Strings and Polyester. But he was also a really good guy too. He has been gone for little over a year now and this may sound stupid but for me, that was the day the music died. So many other wonderful people to listen to, but there will never be another quite like Mr. Dave.

Another take of this song was chosen for the Running on Empty album, and I prefer it slightly; I think Lindley's guitar and falsetto during the doo-wop section of stay are even more on point.

Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Doctor, My Eyes", "Rock Me on the Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "Running on Empty", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.

So glad you loved this. The load out is one of my favorite songs ever. And the transition into Stay is perfect. Together its some of the best music ever made. Even just best art ever made. The way it is about the roadies and the fans and that without 2/3rds of this equation he could not do what he does, is so perfectly expressed. Also just so you know Jackson Browne was a prolific songwriter. He wrote the song "Take it Easy" by The Eagles.

Evidently the Arena had sold out with Bogus Ticket Scam.
Jackson Browne had taken over this theater to preform in 12 sessions cuz he didn't want to disappoint his fans🥺 Also had a young female Performer with him and showing her the ropes. This theater had Stained Glass on the Box Seats. Well that Female Singer Phoebe Snow hit Notes performing a Jazz Renditions and CRACKED THE GLASS IN THE DECORATIVE GLASS.! Running on Empty is famous for being entirely recorded live with the sound of the wheels on the road incorporated into one of the tracks. It was Jackson Brownes hymn to the road, and the Load Out and Stay were his love letters to the roadies and the fans.
