David Lindley's importance can't be overstated. They made a wonderful album together about 10 years ago - Love Is Strange. Lindley playing all kinds of instruments. GOAT for sure

“Load Out” is Jackson Browne’s ode to the roadies who keep the tour moving. “Stay” is a doo-wop song recordedby Maurice Williams in 1960 and I remember dancing to it at a sock hop! I have no idea how or why Jackson started performing these together but it works. Listen to the original version of Stay, it’s great.
David Lindley, the LA session guitarist and multi-instrumentalist best known for his slide guitar work with Jackson Browne, has died at the age of 78. His death was confirmed to the LA Times on March 3, although no cause of death was given. Jackson ends his shows with this song.
Every time I watch reaction videos like this, it reminds me of how blessed I am to have been born in 1961 and graduated high school in 1979 with music like this on the radio.

Dunno how many times I've heard this amazing anthem to life on the road and the people who live it, and make the music happen, as the finale at of one of Jackson's concerts. I've seen him 17 times now... David Lindley is the guy playing the lap steel guitar and singing falsetto during the "Stay" half of this performance. I got to be a roadie for Kool and the Gang once in college. Pay was a ticket to the concert. Very memorable night. And I recorded this on an 8-track recorder directly from the radio and yes, the DJ played both. He just had one comment at the beginning. But stuck with Jackson Browne till his passing. Thank you, David, for your legacy, As for Jackson 10 out of 10 on everything he writes, and performs.
Actually makes me cry every time, singers/bands don't show thanks to the people that actually make them money very often. and the over all ambiance is purely amazing, it also makes me think of my Dad.
"Stay" was written and originally recorded by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs in 1960. (The original lyrics were about Daddy not minding rather than the roadies!). Also covered by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, The Hollies, Cyndi Lauper and probably many others.
The incomparable, late, and lamented David Lindley on slide guitar, and he of the falsetto voice. Huge part of the Jackson Browne band in that era. Love his Mercury Blues.

I was so in love with the song in junior high. I initially just had the single and it was so frustrating because when it reached the end of Loadout, I had to lift the needle up and flip the 45 RPM single over and then put the needle back down real fast in order to continue. Jackson Browne was so intertwined with music from that era he lived with roommate Gregg Allman. He also lived below an apartment shared by members of the Eagles and helped write their hit song 'Take it Easy.'
I was fortunate enough to see Jackson Brown at the Fox Theater in Atlanta GA in the late 70's. It was a truly awesome show. He did this song as well as another called, These Days with members of the Allman Brothers. Awe inspiring all around.
Salvo, Jackson is still touring. I saw him this past fall and he is still superb. If he has any gig dates close to you, you should go. You would love it.
I saw him every chance that I got, which was often because he toured a lot. Always a great show. We were lucky to have so many great bands who toured back then.
One of the songs from Running On Empty called Nothing But Time was recorded on the tour bus while they were riding down the highway. You can hear the hum from the bus and tires in the background of the song. The Running On Empty album is flawless, from start to finish.
Wasn't that great? Love watching you discover our music! Born in 52, was 12 when he Beatles premiered on Ed Sullivan, graduated HS in 70, and was there for it all!
Sadly, I recognized the late Jim Gordon on drums. He was not the drummer on the Running On Empty album or the US tour, but he was at this BBC concert. Jim was an amazing talent who played with many of the greatest artists of the era and appeared on many of the top albums -- including with Derek & the Dominos. He was suffering from undiagnosed schizophrenia and in 1983 murdered his mother, and spent the rest of his life in prison, where he died last year.

I was fortunate enough to see Jackson Brown at the Fox Theater in Atlanta GA in the late 70's. It was a truly awesome show. He did this song as well as another called, These Days with members of the Allman Brothers. Awe inspiring all around.
Take a listen to Running in Empty
Salvo, Jackson is still touring. I saw him this past fall and he is still superb. If he has any gig dates close to you, you should go. You would love it.
I saw him every chance that I got, which was often because he toured a lot. Always a great show. We were lucky to have so many great bands who toured back then.
One of the songs from Running On Empty called Nothing But Time was recorded on the tour bus while they were riding down the highway. You can hear the hum from the bus and tires in the background of the song.
The Running On Empty album is flawless, from start to finish.
I miss those days. No phones. We had to talk to each other in person. No school shootings. No bullies on social media. You just cant beat the 80’s
I experienced Jackson Browne live 20+ yrs ago, and JUST WOW ! ❤️❤❤❤
Thats David Lindley......you should check out his solo stuff......awesome !!!
Wasn't that great? Love watching you discover our music! Born in 52, was 12 when he Beatles premiered on Ed Sullivan, graduated HS in 70, and was there for it all!
One of the greats that is still performing today!❤ i loved this album! And Jackson really enjoyed his fellow band mates!! ❤
Yes, the entire album is great!! What a tribute!!
I absolutely loved your reaction to this song! Such joy on your face!
This was a song for which there was no studio version. It was played Live only. As a tribute to his road crew and the fans, it's only fitting.
You sir were born in the wrong era! Love watching your reactions & seeing the pleasure you obtain from the awesome music of the 70’s & 80’s. You are a time machine with your reactions…we felt that way too.
Ooh my favorite Jackson Browne song! woo hoo! :)
Jackson Browne has Native American heritage and my cousin (who is a celebrity in the Native American music world) met him at a music fest some years ago. She said he was such a great man and I believe her.
The whole album was great, also loved The Road, Shaky Town and Love needs a heart. (My fav).
