This review didn't feel very impartial. I have driven both and now own a Tremor. With that being said, This comparison would of been better with the TRD pro vs the Ranger or maybe the Ranger XLT with FX4. The ranger has one of the most comfortable rides with the leather seats and Fox shocks which do fantastic on the highway too. The Tacoma is reliable and been a proven truck but when it comes to needing power now for getting on the highway or passing someone. The Tacoma has to "hunt" for gears where the Ranger will give you power when you need it and has no problem picking up speed.
Former owner of a TRD OR Tacoma. I now own a Tremor Ranger. The technology is way better. The transmission is way better. The power is way better. The fuel mileage... is better. On paper the ranger is just better. The ride is softer in the Tacoma, and I liked the bed design of the Tacoma better as well. It's a close match for sure but I think I'll be in a ranger until the Tacoma has a refresh.
You guys definitely did not drive these trucks on the highway. The Tacoma is very uncomfortable and the drivetrain is very low on power and gear hunts to improve gas mileage. The seating position is like sitting flat on the floor. The stereo and seats are way better in the ranger. The ranger can tow 7000 lbs and feels very quick.
The tacoma gear hunting goes away after driving it for a while. The transmission will eventually learn your driving patterns and adapt them. Out of the box though it is a pain in the @$$. But bare bones yo bare bones. The ranger is older and has the front end of a 2013 taurus. In my opinion the thing is hideous, the interior is car like , no dampened tailgate, can't fold the back seats flat for cargo. More leg room but you sit more straight up, no rear storage behind the seat, no 60,40 split, it actually gets worse gas mileage but I guess that's not necessarily bad since it's because it has more power, less resale value, probably less reliable, the 2.3 hasn't been the most reliable in previous years. Anyway it's a good truck but overall I think the tacoma is better. Also the seating position is for off roading which is the reason many people buy them and can see the compromise is functional. With that being said the ranger is a nice truck
Sold my 2020 ranger for a 2022 Tacoma. Should have bought the Tacoma two fucking years ago. Way better truck. The ranger was hands down the bounciest vehicle I have ever owned. And the 10 speed transmission was not worth a flip at low speeds preparing to accelerate fast. It was a mildly retarted transmission. Haven't experienced this gear hunting shit everyone bitches about in the Tacoma. This Tacoma is quicker off the start compared to the ranger. I will give the ranger one big thumbs up. And that is at highway speed in sport mode. That little sucker would scoot.
@therangersinger when it first came out, the transmission was programmed differently, and one journalist complained about it in early 2016, and now everone says that to say it. I have a 2016 and a 2019, and while the 2016 is a little more sluggish than the 2019, they both drive just fine.
@@TheAnnoyingBoss it actually takes a while to learn. Like I said, I have 2 of them and now the both drive the same. Speaking of bones, the Tacoma will run out of payload/ wt capacity way before the ranger will. So when accounting for which one will get you further in equipment based on the bones ranger is the answer. Taco is super limited in doing truck things like towing compared to the ranger.
Payload is a another consideration when choosing between them. Some of those 4x4 double cab Tacos can end up with only 430kg/950lbs on the door sticker. Tremor is the lowest payload Ranger at 650kg/1430lbs. Multiple people and their gear add up quick.
I bought a f150 raptor. This is a terrible lying review. I test drove the Tacoma trd pro and a tremor. It wasn’t even close, the ranger rides great, is faster, tows more , has great seats and a great stereo. The Tacoma is constantly gear hunting to get into 6th gear, has a terrible uncomfortable ride, has a very weak engine, terrible stereo, has a very small backseat and a bad tow rating. The Tacoma will last longer and is very reliable. Test drive both and you will see these jerks are liars and might be on the Toyota payroll
100% agree. The Toyota is way out classed for driver comfort and on-road manners. The 10 speed is very dialed in. The Toyota was horribly uncomfortable! didn't help that I drove the wifes Ram 2500 to the Toyota dealer then to the Ford... The Ranger drives like a small truck, the Toyota like a lifted up low pro car..
I had 2021 Ranger XLT 4x4 Sport sine Dec 21 and I loved it. I'm 5' 11" Taco is to small for me. Ranger also has FordPass app that you can auto start your car during Winter months. Don't are much about Fox. There are many better after market parts, ARB and WARN. This is my second Ranger. My first Ranger was in Australia, T1 and that when Ranger was builded in Asians.
I got a Ranger. Undercoat it and rust proof every door panel. Planning to do oil & filter change religiously. I know how to drive to extend a turbo engine's lift span. Let's see how it goes.
I drove these back to back never having been in either and the Tacoma feels old, weak a buzzy. The Ranger was way more modern, comfortable and powerful.
Hello!! I’m not trying to stir the pot, but I am genuinely torn between getting a Toyota Tacoma vs. a Ford Ranger and would love some help deciding. I read the comments of all the videos and see that Ford people love Fords as do Toyota people love Toyotas. I have not test driven either one, nor have I owned either of them in the past. I take great care of my current vehicles, but I’m looking to get a truck in early/mid 2022. My wife and I enjoy paddle boarding, road biking, and we do a lot of camping in the spring/fall. We have been limited to some campsites due to trail being too rough for our car, and have mainly planned trips that fit our current gear. We are both 5’10”, I am about 240lbs and she around 140lbs. We have rented/borrowed trucks in the past, but I feel like we would benefit from a truck for our future. I’m not sure which truck to buy because they both have pro’s and con’s to our wants. For instance, we want individual thermostats during our drives: she gets cold easily but I am warm most of the time. We want to be able to put our paddle boards in the back and want good tie down spots. We want to be able to take our bikes any where. We want leather interior with heated and cooled seats. We want something durable. We want to be able to enjoy the truck as an outdoor adventure companion. We want to be able to have adult sized passengers in the back seat without having to worry about space. Anyway, any awesome feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you might be looking at a Chevy Colorado. I do not believe the Tacoma or Ranger offers ventilated seating. I have a Tremor model and it offers heated seats but thats it. I drive Tacomas all the time but haven't seen a vented seat option before. Chevy Colorado I believe can be optioned with one but also remember if you add a lot of options you start to get it to be comparable to a full size truck. When I bought my Tremor, I could of bought a F150 but I dont need a full size right now so keep that in mind too. Chevy/GMC also offer probably a better fuel economy with their Diesel motor option or similar turbo engine. You could also wait for the Nissan Frontier which is aimed at competing with the Tacoma but all the mid sizes trucks are going to be able to fit the out door needs.
Best advice for you is to test drive them all before making a decision. And make sure it’s a thorough test drive. See if you can take it for the day because a short trip around the block won’t cut it. I’ve had a 18 Colorado z71 and now a 20 Tacoma trd off road. The Chevy had better driving dynamics while on road. The Colorado also had a better 4x4 system including its hill start assist. In the Colorado it will actually hold its position uphill without applying brakes whereas the taco tries but cannot succeed. The taco is much more sluggish and uncomfortable to drive. The taco does suck up bumps much better though and is more comfortable off road. But you’re most likely on road more than off road. The Tacoma has the worst brakes in the entire industry and it’s not even close. They’re the most annoying brakes I’ve ever encountered in any vehicle. The Tacoma may be reliable but it comes with many quirks. I haven’t test driven the ranger yet so I can’t comment on that. But I’ve regretted going from the Colorado to the Tacoma even though I wasn’t happy with the Colorados transmission either. But I miss the chevys auto 4x4 mode and hill start assist in the Midwest winter big time!
Tacoma’s are more reliable and better resale value. Better aftermarket as well. If the trim u get is lacking then u can almost always upgrade. Off road, it has better features w a trac. The bed has more features to secure loads and has better storage. Ranger has a more powerful and responsive power train. Won’t likely last as long. Has a fully boxed frame which means has higher payload and towing capacity. More comfortable seating and slightly more roomy in the back. Both will accomplish the wants u listed with upgrades. U should drive them multiple times and see which u like better. I like the look of Tacomas better and it’s aftermarket parts. I’ve driven both and like the ranger better. I am going to order the ranger becuz it’ll be my daily driver and I want the higher payload. Hope that helps.
I got a basic 2021 Ranger XLT. Modern trucks will not be as long lasting as the old ones due to complexity. At the end of the day, a daily driver is just a tool to get you from point A to B. Don't overthink it and don't think it's an investment.
I have had a Ranger for two years now and love the thing. Is my daily and I've driven it off road in the summer and winter in Montana. The thing drives like a dream on the highway and the more gear options helps with finding the right power range for off roading too.
I don’t own either of these or a pickup but am looking to buy one in next 18-24 months. No hurry given the price inflation we are currently in. True a version of Ranger platform was around other places in the world but not the engine or transmission. Everywhere else diesel mated to a different transmission. I am not yet convinced of the 4-cyl turbo for a truck. Ford seams to be married to twin turbos…I am not sure why? Fuel economy standards and just gaming the system? Planned obsolescence? Just remember their a business trying to make a profit in a competitive market and the only way they make money is by selling vehicles not making a vehicle that lasts forever. Toyotas reputation of durability and longevity has been earned over the decades.
Buy both at the same time with as equal of factory equipment as possible ; take equally good care of them, and when they both hit 150,000 miles sell them both and see which one brings thousands more in resale value. I think we all know which truck that will be. It’s a no-brainer purchase decision.
I'm 6ft and the only reason I want to get rid of my Tacoma is the seating. It's really uncomfortable but other than that I love every single thing about it
I'm not sure. A Tacoma will always sell for good price but the ranger has more power and so even if it's not a Toyota, Ford is the king of trucks more than Toyota. The power and potentially slightly lower resale value will also provide a used market interested in buying used so either way man it's a tough call. Toyota is a Toyota and Toyota reliability but it also has less power unless you get bigger engine and spend more.
How does the back seat compare between the ranger and taco? I know the taco rear seat was too small for me (6’4) and the person I test drove with (5’7)
There is a lot to like about the new Rangers. The thing that has me most concerned is the reliability of the Rangers. The predictions seem to be dismal at best and having owned fords in the past, when I had a problem I wasn't that impressed with Ford as a company and how they stood behind their product. On top of that, Ford is looking at a big financial loss this year in the billions due to the chip shortage and while it appears it won't affect the Ranger platform, a loss is a loss. I'd be really wondering if a new Ford purchase right now is a wise move just for this reason alone. I have been a Tacoma owner for a numbers of years and had a Gen2 Gen 3. The ride leaves a lot to be desired even in the Gen 3. I drive a 2017 4x2 SR model now and it doesn't even have intermittent wipers for 26K. I had to add a seat lift kit to find a comfortable seat position due to the lack of seat adjustment. The base engine is solid but lethargic with the auto transmission. These are all things I learned to live with because the reliability is amazing. It's really legendary. Not a single issue. It's been the same for my whole family. Several Corollas, Camry's and Rav4's. Nothing as far as an issue. It's very hard for me to contemplate going back to an American company with this kind of track record. I do wish Ford luck with the new Ranger. I guess will see down the line how it does.
I’ve never seen a Ford have trouble free longevity, where as I have experienced handing down a Toyota to the next generation with few if any major repairs
I'm just saying ford 4 cylinder turbo eco boost against tacoma v6? I have a ford ranger xlt 4x4 sport and it's way better than the tacoma it just feel so much fun to drive and It's sit higher and I can tow more than the tacoma 7,500lbs did I say my Ford is a 4 cylinder turbo??? Think about that for awhile ford is beating the tacoma with a 4 cylinder engine lol
Anyone can make power with a turbo goof ball. 4/6/8 cylinder don’t matter. Throw on a supercharger on the Tacoma and they make power too. Toyota has a 3 cylinder turbo engine that puts more power than the Ford. My point is NA engine vs turbocharged is like apples and oranges.
I'm 6.2ft and seating and driving position in my 2021 Tacoma TRD 4X4 Premium is no problem at all. Did several 500 + mile trips and all were fine. It's a truck and drive like a truck.
I’ve had and old ranger it was a Junk!! Have had f-150 4x4 that was excellent truck I’ve been a Ford guy forever Bought my First Toyota and it’s a Tacoma acces cab 4x4 V-6 and it’s a great truck so far
Two huge differences.... Men who want a manual, ford wont have it due to new age men being scared and two Toyota holds its value a lot more then ford does... Plus ford will discontinue the ranger in the next 2 years anyway xD
Relax ranger and taco owners neither one of the test drivers has ever touched a impact driver, I'd be surprised if either one touched the screwdriver. Can we get some normal men to test next please? @@noahboock yeah that sucks. For me at least it is just ever kids that are in the back.
Ford ranger is 7500lb tow rating
I bought Ford's stock in July of last year and it has more than doubled in less than a year.
Where is this trail?
after moving from Alberta to BC I swear BC has worse truck drivers.
It’s the same truck. Just like the Nissan and the Ranger were. You can’t hide the roof line and underpinnings.
I’ve never seen a Ford have trouble free longevity, where as I have experienced handing down a Toyota to the next generation with few if any major repairs
There ya go don’t purchase a Ford!
Drove my last F-150 250,000 trouble free miles with basic maintenance. My buddy has a F-350 with 975,000 miles on it. So what’s your point again?
I'm just saying ford 4 cylinder turbo eco boost against tacoma v6? I have a ford ranger xlt 4x4 sport and it's way better than the tacoma it just feel so much fun to drive and It's sit higher and I can tow more than the tacoma 7,500lbs did I say my Ford is a 4 cylinder turbo??? Think about that for awhile ford is beating the tacoma with a 4 cylinder engine lol
But they are hideous.
Anyone can make power with a turbo goof ball. 4/6/8 cylinder don’t matter. Throw on a supercharger on the Tacoma and they make power too. Toyota has a 3 cylinder turbo engine that puts more power than the Ford. My point is NA engine vs turbocharged is like apples and oranges.
you guys don't seem to have qualifications of making judgments in my option.
$52000 you should get a full size truck and interior that doesn’t fall apart right away.
Any terrain Any where Any wheater toyota tacoma Round only Ford Ranger
Most of you don’t even use the 4x4 and just bought it for the bragging rights!
I'm 6.2ft and seating and driving position in my 2021 Tacoma TRD 4X4 Premium is no problem at all. Did several 500 + mile trips and all were fine.
It's a truck and drive like a truck.
I’ve had and old ranger it was a Junk!!
Have had f-150 4x4 that was excellent truck I’ve been a Ford guy forever
Bought my First Toyota and it’s a Tacoma acces cab 4x4 V-6 and it’s a great truck so far
I think they would pick the Toyota no matter how good the ranger was
These guys cant finish dogging these Badass trucks in this video quick enuf, to go get it on in their subaru outback is what im guessing.
Yes! Best comment so far!
The ranger is needlessly ugly. They need to update the front end to look more aggressive.
Ranger tremor all day every day
I have seen new Rangers with a check engine light. Long term reliability is everything!
thats what im lookin for
I will always stick with Toyota
🤣🤣
@@AJ12-76 it's alright too cry felicia lol
Ranger ❤
I’m 6ft and the Tacoma is fine for me no problem with leg room or head space
T A C O M A
man i was hoping for a full android auto integration, my brz CAME with that in 2018 as a base model. 2021 thats a downgrade i dont want
Two huge differences.... Men who want a manual, ford wont have it due to new age men being scared and two Toyota holds its value a lot more then ford does... Plus ford will discontinue the ranger in the next 2 years anyway xD
What lag??
125 missed calls
Turbo engine just get a computer, exhaust, down pipe BOV. 50HP
Toyota trucks always have the floor board too high.
Relax ranger and taco owners neither one of the test drivers has ever touched a impact driver, I'd be surprised if either one touched the screwdriver. Can we get some normal men to test next please? They seem like Volkswagen owners to me, they probably let another man ride the girl because they're tired from typing! Never trusted California review.
Edit your from Canada and that explains alot,
Toyota will always win!
Toyota all day
lost me with the man bun😂
seems bias
Not hating but you could definitely have better vocabulary when talking about cars or trucks and these are trucks and mid sized half ton
Only in the US different terminology outside
I like both of these choices but prefer the Colorado personally
Tacoma is always my truck nothing else…hehehe
I can't take anyone with a man-bun seriously, ...especially for a rugged truck driving review.
In 200k miles, only one will still be worth anything. It's not the ford.
These guys are a couple of nit wits. Ranger has a Focus quality interior? You 2 are the only ones saying that. Most all reviews say the Rangers interior is decent and well built. Besides that Tacoma is full of cheap plastics and hard surfaces. Maybe the man bun is too tight cutting of oxygen to the brain
