$63,900 before markups.
Quick math:
$6,400 down (10%)
+ tax and interest (7.64)
60 Months Payment: $1260
@12.5% of take home pay you should be earning $157,500 annually to be looking at this car (assuming the appropriate taxes are coming out of your paycheck).
National average wage (US Census): $63795.
Percentage making $150k annually: approx. 8.3%
5 Year price increase Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro:
2019 MSRP: $42,960
2024 MSRP: $63,900
49% increase
Wage growth 2019-2024: 1.7% (Source: US Treasury)
These price increases far outpace inflation and wage growth.
Toyota is targeting 8% of total market. Or people who just want to act fiscally irresponsible.
Props to you for spending the time to research this. Interesting 👌🏻👍🏻
This might be the first time I’ve ever seen an educated , well-researched, fact-based comment on RUclips. Nice.
Thank you!
it's a trim though that isn't meant for the masses, the lesser are
The national annual wage has gotta been faked. I don't know anyone making 25 dollars an hour or more and haven't seen a single job hiring 25 dollars or more. Annual wage should be way lower
These trucks start at $47,000 in Canada. Absolutely ridiculous. Nice vehicle but these vehicle prices are absurd.
They're taxing like crazy trying to recoup costs of developing the new gen model.
I just checked the toyota website because I thought you were exaggerating. But you were actually low in Ontario they start at 50k. That's insane. A new tundra is only 4k more.
Thats Toyota for you, no better here in Australia, 150k for a 300 series landcruiser, 90k for a Hilux GR. Toyota pricing is absolutely ridiculous
You should be happy Toyota lets you buy their vehicles with that Monopoly money y’all use.
What did you expect when you’re using fake second class dollars? Should count yourself lucky they even sell you one in the first place.

No need to take it too seriously eh? Maple syrup eh?
Stay strong brothers.
The truck you have is perfectly adequate. And it's paid for.

Or go a lil further. Most of you don't need a pick up truck to fetch groceries at walmart or go to your local football match
64k on the “upper trim” doing exactly what the truck was designed to do… just to have an overheating trans? Ridiculous 😂
The price is just too much to buy now. They’ve raised the MSRP by 15k for the TRD pro.
Man, nearly 20k after all the taxes etc. I paid 45k for mine is '21. Now that wouldn't even pay for a base-to-mid OR.
Don't forget the $20k ADM dealers are going to tack on top of MSRP for the TRD Pro.
No the price isn't too high. Our money is worth less making our wages a pittance.
@@hmu958that's a ridiculous statement. If wages are low, then prices need to be lower to accommodate the market. Absolute numbers don't matter, it's the relative relationship between them that counts.
@@hmu958 I can’t disagree. It seems like a solid truck with many upgrades over mine. And, it’s still a stark difference in price that’s a reality check re. your point.
I miss the small trucks of the 90's. Inexpensive, functional, and not full size. I'm just fixing up my old Excursion for camping and hunting.
Tell your congress people to close the CAFE rule loopholes and lower the 25% import tariff on foreign trucks. A lot of the world still gets small trucks. The US doesn't because we have stupid laws.
I still drive my 01 chevy s10 single cab. Mini trucks for life

$62,900 for a Toyota Tacoma is an absolutely insane asking price. That’s more than the MSRP of a Mercedes E-class. Did Toyota forget who they are??
They are the highest selling brand on planet Earth 😅

This is because “midsize” trucks are almost the same size as full size trucks of 20 years ago. They’re just replacing the full size segment with mid size trucks and the prices reflect that.
Yes but 20 years ago even full size trucks weren't going for outrageous prices like this.

2004 F150 price range: $36,300 - $54,500 adjusted for inflation.
2024 Ranger price range: $32,500 - $55,300 approximately.
Furthermore, the dimensions of these two trucks are almost identical. The F150 has a bit better payload and towing figures at the highest end of the spectrum but for most configurations they are very comparable.
I hate how they are practically full sized trucks now. The first gens were nimble and durable where as these look heavy and too classy to treat as a truck.
I still own a 2000 Tacoma. It’s paid for and I love it. Wish it could tow more though.
I agree! I miss the smaller trucks. These are full size trucks.
Sucks that small trucks all got killed by CAFE. Overly complicated rules that encourage all manufacturers to make bigger and bigger trucks, and also push "crossovers" (which are trucks?) so they can duck the efficiency requirements.
You’re completely right. These “small” trucks are as big as the full size trucks… the new rangers, Tacomas and Colorados are bigger than the older F-150, Tundras and Silverados.
the bumper is like 6ft tall it looks ridiculously stupid
It's just one giant Toyota commercial, will the DraftKings commercial in the middle
Plus 2 ads before all that.
2024 what a time to be alive.
What kind of ad says the truck overheats lol
This is the first time I've heard the hybrid trucks overheat. That's good info. This isn't an ad. Truck is just awesome but overheating without towing something heavy is a concern
So I was about to write that Donut is the first auto reviewer that hasn't broken one of these trucks until I got to the last 30 seconds. TFL took the Tacoma on very easy snow off roading and the front diff broke. Throttle House also broke theirs, and at the very end Nolan mentions an over heating transmission
"It can handle it."
Yeah, about that.... not so much.
They're getting recalled even before they hit dealer lots!
@@eurosonly what's the recall for?
Its really interesting how different the market is for utes/trucks are in the USA compared to Australia. The vast majority of our utes/trucks here contain anywhere from 2L to 3L turbo diesel engines with a small minority coming with gasoline engines. Also the size difference between something like a Tacoma and a Hilux is astounding too.
Cries in USA.
Those MSRP prices are criminal!
Not mentioning you'll have an extremely hard time getting one for MSRP. Judt checked my local dealership and they have the base Tacoma listed at 40,700$. Almost 10k more then msrp.
Very true. The msrp is already high for most vehicles, but the dealers are destroying the industry.

$47,000 for a fully loaded Nissan Frontier Pro-4X with a 310hp V6. No turbos. No BS. Spend a couple grand on some performance and appearance goodies and still enjoy for tens of thousands less than the competition. Z1 Off-road is working on a supercharger package.
new frontier model looks great, pretty good alternative and might be my next pick when its time to replace.

Yess they already have the super charger . Can’t wait to get mine
But you get modern Nissan build quality which unfortunately is quite low compared to Nissan of the 1990s when they were good.
@@KenRobinsonchannel Modern Nissan quality is great...with their trucks. Avoid anything with a CVT and you are good.
These two are literally my favorite. They really portray just two normal bros kicking it off-road.

It looked like part of it requires a key or screwdriver.
You probably need the key... I hope.

You ain't putting any kids in the pro, atleast one with a carseat that most kids should be in from birth to 40 pounds (4-5 years old minimum) I really wished they made one model like a TRD XL CAB for more rear end space. My 2023 trd off road is crampt with 2 car seats in it, actually looking to ditch the taco that now has 20k on it and can get 95% what I paid for it! I'll miss having resale value of the taco!
It wouldnt really do anything at all

The SR deserves a four-wheel drive option and I wouldn't pay over 25,000
Not without a hefty trade in
Man, we’re all going through hard times except these people that make Hella money on the Internet and or the elites
Hoping everyone succeeds in life so they can afford a new taco 😂. Back in the day it was to be rich enough to afford a Bimmer or a Merc. Now it's rich enough to buy a fucking pickup truck
If you can’t afford a base model Toyota Tacoma, maybe you shouldn’t be spending so much time on RUclips.
Seeing the new Tacomas makes me appreciate my 2nd gen even more. Not saying the new ones are downright terrible, just different.
Agreed, looks like 2nd gens were Toyota’s last true midsize pickup 😢
I had a TRD Pro pre-ordered and a down payment handed over. I just bought a Tundra Platinum TRD off-road instead. The Platinum wasn't much more expensive, it can overland just fine, and I can fit 5 adults comfortably, while the Tacoma couldn't even fit an two adults in the front with a kid in a car seat in the backseat and a dog. Bonus: you can camp in the Tundra with the massive panoramic roof. The only thing I don't like about the Tundra is that it came with 20" wheels with tiny tires that come to about 30". Once I slap some 33s on the Tundra, I think it will do anything I ask of it. I love my Tacos, but for anything beyond just a one or two person truck, even the new Tacoma can't cut it.
That snorkel sound check was great. Much louder than I would have expected from factory equipment.
Especially with how low of a profile it had
This new Tacoma is like a relationship with your high school crush: looks good on paper, might overheat later.

So, TFL Truck had a front diff component break, and now these two experienced trans overheating issues on both upper trim trucks? Whoa. Granted they were in the desert, but what if somebody is towing a trailer in the mountains on a hot day?
Garbage components
The trans still shouldn't be overheating while doing what it is made to do. But then again, Toyota won't warranty a 86 if you raced it, while they've brand it as an entry level lapping car
That was the most minimal off-roading and it still overheated. I live in AZ where it’s 110 with long uphill pulls in the freeways, it’s definitely overheating there. Garbage!
Toyota's aren't what they use to be. The simplicity of the old ones was what made them so great. These are just overly-complex gucci 4x4s.

The Frontier Pro-4X is 20k cheaper and has a front locker and a trans cooler. This is a massive whiff
Even as an overall Nissan skeptic I can't deny it's a better deal. Plus that NA V6 they use is already proven to be good motor in terms of reliability.
That’s because the new frontier is just more of a refresh than a full redesign from the ground up.
@flurpoid my work truck frontier has 260k mi on it that v6 is a work horse. Gets a oil change every 5k mi and keeps chugging along.
the Frontier pro4x 100% does not have a front locker. I own one. it IS still more truck for the same money [feature for feature the same price point] with that good v6
it has a rear locker... if that was not clear
Those prices are crazy considering they only have the 4 Cyl Turbo, nice trims but its just not worth it ngl. Might aswell get the Top of the Line Nissan Frontier Pro 4X Which is around 30k/40k At the moment and that has a V6 Engine thats really reliable, 9/10 Speed Automatic, Diffs, Nice Leather Seats, Beautiful color, awesome interior details, great rims, perfect off-road tires and 4x4 or AWD. The frontier has way more HP than the Tacoma making 220HP and the Frontier making 310HP.
Only reason why it’s so expensive is because it has incredibly high resale value in the long run. Also I’m kind of biased because I own a 22 Frontier Pro X. I still respect the new look though, but also I have trouble distinguishing a Tacoma from a Tundra.
That V6 is very reliable, only issue is the chain is connected to the water pump so if that goes out, it’s gonna be expensive to fix, and not to mention only has GDI instead of dual injection like the Toyota…
It doesn’t come cheap, but if you want more power from the taco hybrid max makes 360 hp and 400lb-ft torque
@@Uglier_God You are basing the potential resale value off the name.... If this turns out to be a shitbox with an old name then it won't be worth shit. Especially if that v4 or the trans turns out to be complete hot shit. Wait 5-10 years before we really start to say "Resale will be good"
your not finding a Pro 4X at 40K atm. Markups plus options will push them higher, and I would hardly call nissan products reliable :P

Not gonna lie, I drove my buddy's new 2024 Tacoma TRD Offroad 4x4, and I couldn't really tell any real ride improvement with the rear coils over the previous generation leaf springs. The difference was negligible. My 2wd F150 rides better, but it has a much longer wheel base. I think reviewers might be exaggerating the ride benefit.
Yeah I drove the coil and the leaf springs, leaf actually had a better ride over bumps maybe the coil is better at turning? idk
Coils prevent side to side movement of the rear suspension where leafs can move
The only time you’ll really notice that is off-roading and less so on the road
You think people invited over and given a chance to try shit before it's on the market so they can post videos early might have a positive bias?

IDK 4 cylinder turbo engines usually dont last past 150K miles. those NA V6 engine might have not had as much low end torque but toyota's V6 engines were very well made. This new 4 cylinder turbo is probably going to get you 100K because people will change the oil at 10K miles.

This is why Toyota can get away with selling a Land Cruiser from the 80’s with some minor bits added to it for double what a similar car costs
I bought a 2023 TRD Off Road 4x4 fully loaded about 8 months ago with 4 miles on it, & let me tell you I’m very glad I bought it when i did. Sticker price on it was $42k & I can get more than what I paid for mine already. I only have 3k miles on the odometer so it’s still basically brand new. Buying the first year of a model redesign is usually not the best idea & the turbo is just something else to break. The Land Cruiser is nice af though

You guys should do a high and low series with the Isuzu Trouper. My family had one for 20 years and even though they don’t make them anymore it was an incredible off-roader. It’s also the perfect option because the company doesn’t make parts for them anymore so everything would have to be third party. You could probably even throw a more powerful engine in there although in power mode it already has plenty of power.
I think yall should start doing 'Top Gear' style episodes where a group of you get $500-$1000-1500 and see who could get the best car for the lowest amount.
That would require actual effort and money on their end. Not sure they're really interested in making quality, entertaining content. They're just here to sell you products and merch, allwhile profiting off the sheer mass of YT videos they upload.
Your suggestion, while I think is awesome, goes completely against their business model.

2jz is an overused and overrated engine. There, someone finally said it.
@@arthurwright255Lol what? One of the best out there... and most definitely not overused. Underused, and far better than whatever crap is in your car (if you even have one). None of this applies if you have an RB.
If you drive a truck, you REALLY have no place to be talking.
@@BEAST.420G youre fan boying hard for an old engine that has no place in todays vehicles.
Slobbing real hard my guy
@@arthurwright255absolutely. Its good yes but man is it outdated
10:23 “moment we’ve been waiting for” ? Are there real trucks coming up? Lol
TRD Desert Running Trim.... they did it again 😂
I need more of these videos for every builder 😅
Crazy to see how far Donut has came....remember when you guys were under 100k 😮👏👏
I was really looking forward to buying this New Gen Tacoma. But after hearing some mechanical issues, and seeing the limited availability and dealer costs, I opted to stick with full size and got a new GMC Sierra.
Or you could’ve been smart and got a used truck
@@lamp7746 I was smart and got the truck that I needed. I also already have a 20 year old truck. My point is, it's too bad that new Tacos aren't as readily available as they used to be and don't represent the value that they used to.
@@lamp7746 I bought a Texas Edition Silverado. Not as a truck, but as a four door sedan, I have a 99 Ram 2500 to do truck stuff
@@boskobeareven the last generation was built in Mexico. What’s your point?
GMC makes nice rigs man good choice
11:11 Top tier meme, excellent usage, 10/10 funny
YAY ANOTHER FULL SIZED TRUCK OPTION!!! I was tired of how many smaller trucks are FLOODING the market, I drive a goose neck 90 ton load with steel bricks uphill both ways and my F42050 just couldn't cut it anymore! These are a waste of Toyota factories.
$65,000 is entirely too much money for this truck Toyota. That's $15,000 MORE than the previous truck.
Yet I've never wanted to spend an irresponsible amount of money on a truck so much in my life lol. It looks SOO GOOD
yeah but did the previous truck come in "cool dirt" color? no? go fish
Bought a SR5 about a month ago love it

It was nice to see a new taco off road without breaking.
The Nissan frontier Pro4x is the midsize truck to buy. V6 engine has been around forever, 9sp Mercedes designed transmission(it does not have a jatco CVT) has just enough tech and you can buy them for MSRP or even a few thousand ls off. I’ve heard of a lot of people buying them brand new for 42k out the door.
