You are so welcome, Mohammed! Thanks for taking the time to comment - so glad the resources I've outlined in this video are going to help you on your FCPX journey!
I knew Final Cut Express from years ago, but hadn't touched anything til this year. I got up and running in just a couple hours with iJustine's course from Ripple Training. It was $30! And somehow it plays right inside of FCPX. Justine does not deep-dive into all the powers of FCPX, but she shows you how she uses it for her needs. From there I turned to RUclips for more specified tutorials, but iJustine's course was the perfect way to get started FAST. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you so much for this channel! Those tip and mistakes etc videos are the best of the sort out there.
I will have to do a follow up video with all the recommendations from you all here in the comments. I follow iJustine but don't see a TON of FCPX-specific content from her these days - great to know she has a course in collaboration with Ripple Training. And $30 is a great deal! Excited for you to be on a new journey with FCPX, Marc!
@@matthewTobrien rarely yeah, but it was her name, and knowing she's used FCPX for many years, that prompted me to trust her course. And it was $30 ;) I felt immediately comfortable just doing her thing with her footage.
That's terrific, Markus! Be sure to check out my other video - Top Ten Mistakes in FCPX. That should help get you in a better place to get started with FCPX. Thanks for watching my vids and welcome to the channel!
I really love your recommendations. I’ve used LumaFusion on my iPad for about 2 years, and I’m switching to Mac from Windows. I have been watching FCPX videos for months, I haven’t even used it yet but am looking forward to it. I have saved a lot video tutorials and think I’m ready to try it. I should have my M1 iMac with FCPX in days 😀
Excited for you, Joe! I think you'll really love Final Cut Pro, and it's great that you've gotten some experience with editing using LumaFusion on your iPad. Certainly check out my friends' RUclips channels that are all about Final Cut Pro for additional resources as you learn the software: Rafael Ludwig | ruclips.net/user/RafaelLudwig Dylan John | ruclips.net/user/DylanJohnYT The Final Cut Pro | ruclips.net/user/TheFinalCutBro Serge M | ruclips.net/user/Serge1913 Bryan Francisco | ruclips.net/user/BryanFrancisco
You all are too kind! I was kinda worried a little bit that the reaction would be, "Really? This is what we should be doing before using the software?" Love this community! Thanks for watching!
Got FCPX for Christmas and have been watching your vids for days. I am as green as one gets when it comes to editing. Basic gardening channel content made in iMovie. Thank you for calmly taking the time to dumb this down for newbies. The program is amazing.....ly intimidating, lol. I shall watch your recommended vids and start playing with it this week. All the best from Canada:))
Congras on upgrading from iMovie! I can see how it's intimidating, no doubt about it. But you've got a great community here that can help! Another viewer pointed me to a great tutorial from iJustine - it's $30 but I've heard rave reviews. Currently at 4.8 stars out of 5 on the Mac App Store. Here's the link! apps.apple.com/us/app/ijustine-teaches-fcp-x/id1474163299?mt=12 This might be a great "one stop shop" option that's inexpensive yet comprehensive. Sometimes it can get a little frustrating to try to go through other YOuTube channel's tutorials with each lesson broken out into separate videos. Let me know how it goes for you and thanks for watching!
Now don’t sell yourself short, you should be the first channel to watch. I’ve watched about all of them including Ripple and Larry Jordan. They are good but I’ve learned more in just a few of your videos than I have with a lot of theirs. You explain well and why something is done. Thanks.
Thank you for addressing us creative types. I started with iMovie, but it wasn't advanced enough, tried Premiere Pro (made me dizzy), then DaVinci before finding FCPX a year ago. Thank goodness I randomly did a bunch of the stuff you suggest. Like alot of creatives, we're passionate about our message and impatient to get going. I'm closer to getting my first film finished and now it's crucial I understand more of the tech stuff!!!!! Thanks for making it look fun.
Congrats on having your first film nearly finished! What a huge accomplishment. And I agree - always good to have the best understanding of the technical side of things as possible, but it's so difficult to know it all. Luckily you can turn to RUclipsrs like me for help (or the FCPX groups on Facebook). Excited to hear more about your film!
@@matthewTobrien thank you! for being there!! Yeah, I started going through the footage TWO years ago, editing the past year. Hahahha, I thought it was going to kill me, but I'm FINALLY feeling that my old MacBookPro 2012 with SSD is too slow. Before now I was def SLOW. A doc edited like drama/comedy, set in Uganda, three women trying to get The Bike to a wildlife ranger and all the pitfalls. It's looking GOOD. :)
I’m enjoying your channel more and more with every video post. The effort put into them shows man, thanks a lot for these tips, tricks and overall sharing.
I really appreciate that, Alej. I know some of my older videos can be a bit of a struggle to get through - with anything new, there's always room for improvement, especially in the storytelling that must go into each video. Feedback like this, knowing the support I have in this community means more than you can know. So excited for 2021 and the content I'm going to share with you all. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I just joined. I have been using FCP for a few years but am always looking for more ideas and you gave me some in this video. I have pretty much all of the Ripple Training but am keen to get real-world use suggestions. Thanks for this video!
Real-world use suggestions are great. Definitely check out FCPXTour. A few other channels that I love: Hollywood:FCP Unauthorized FCPX This Guy Edits Luma Forge
These tips are going to be game changers for my editing workflow. Started using FCPX back in August and while parts of the learning curve were steep, trial/error and videos like these have been super helpful. Great video.
So great to hear! Thanks so much for watching, and never hesitate to comment on these videos if you need some help or have recommendations for tutorials that would help you. Thanks!
@@matthewTobrien Thanks so much :) my next big step is editing audio. Starting from scratch but looking to make onboard riding audio sound good for ASMR-like engine sound! Any tips or suggestions??
Audio has to be the area I know the least about. I can do some solid sound effects editing, but when it comes to mixing, repairing, etc. ... I’m at a loss. For paid client work I hire out sound mixing. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. 😓
@@matthewTobrien no problem, just sharing your insights is super helpful. I've considered outsourcing my audio editing (as it's likely cheaper than video) so I might give that a shot!
Greetings! Third watch. Loving the channel. Very informative. Am following nine of your suggestions; I'm not a Facebook user 🤷🏻♂️, but I'll have to reconsider. You are an FCPX champion 🏆
Eh, you're probably better off not using Facebook. I do enjoy being a member of the various groups I'm in, but other than that I'm not actively using the platform very much. Oh, I use Marketplace and their News feed on the mobile app. News feed is actually pretty good if you like reading the news.
My pleasure, Brent. Can't thank you enough for watching AND commenting. So glad to be helping all of you out on your journey into FCPX and video editing!
another great video Matthew! I remember seeing the first FCPX announcement and it really helped for me to understand exactly what they were thinking. It did a great job of breaking down the philosophy of why they did what they did.
Hi Matt, i have become a new subscriber and bought the templates, I have done a blokes search for how to use your templates in youtube (and found a live session that goes on for over an hour?) but is there a scaled-down version? e.g. how to set up the smart collections in broll etc? I have copied video from my wife's video and mine, but they are not showing up? I am pretty sure it is a newbie error on my part (I hope) so just looking for a bit more guidance?). love your style and teaching approach BTW. :-) Peter
Thanks for becoming a channel member, Peter! Here is the original video where I break down the how and why of using a template: ruclips.net/video/GET0s8-lUhg/видео.htmlsi=t1gD4jGY9CbB_Em1 Here’s another version of that video: ruclips.net/video/jxgKjjKhsoU/видео.htmlsi=wCLRky7OFpcasU56 And one more on how to use my templates: ruclips.net/video/f5tnM_3y4KA/видео.htmlsi=RdZvRt-QG2lntiaL I also have a video where I show I set up a project for editing using these templates: ruclips.net/video/HJ2XEnakF-s/видео.htmlsi=f09Iwox9f31yDsxG I don’t have a video about setting up Smart Collections. To learn more about Smart Collections, take a look at this article from the Final Cut Pro user guide to see if that helps: support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/create-smart-collections-ver2833eb5b/mac I hope to make a video about Smart Collections in the future - it’s an often overlooked feature in FCP, but it’s quite powerful.
Excellent advice, as always - thanks for sharing. One aspect I'm not sure you covered in enough depth for new users - the Preference: "copy files to Library." To save on HD space, I unchecked this when I began using FCPX and learned the hard way that, for this user, I preferred to leave it checked so that the library, though large, is comprehensive. This is esp. true for those of us using a laptop on location and with multiple external drives. Nothing's worse than realizing you may have the FCPX library on hand but not the video files that are associated - ouch! With the cost of storage space continuing to decline, the tradeoff should be an easy one to make: keep it all together in one complete library while working on a project. If you wish, you can reduce the size of the library once the project is completed and archived.
Yeah, that entire concept needs a dedicated video, and I've added that to my to-do list for the channel. In watching it back before I uploaded I felt the same way - "this may be a bit too much of an overview for new editors to grasp" - so I'll have to make a dedicated video about it to help the beginners or those struggling with file management/free space better understand what the options are with FCPX. I do agree that it can be a HUGE time saver to store all the media in the FCPX library, and there are a lot of users out there where this workflow is best for them. Hope to get a video out about all of that in January! Sooooo much content I want to get out on the channel, and I have all of you to thank for watching, commenting, liking, sharing...it's allowing me to really focus on the channel and increase the quality of the videos, topics, etc. Thank you!!!
I also want to recommend three things. 1. Off the tracks - Final cut Pro x documentary ( available on youtube ), 2. Richard Taylor TV ( RUclips channel FCP ), and 3. Final cut pro subreddit on Reddit
Yessssss, Harwinder. I think I might put out a follow-up vid because you all have made some great recommendations on additional resources for new FCPX-ers. Love the Off The Tracks doc and am on the Final Cut Pro subreddit as well. I think I've watched Richard Taylor's stuff, but I'll have to double check. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@matthewTobrien one more RUclips channel i want to mention here ( Hollywood:FCP ) he compares avid to fcp in various situations. “How we can do same things in few steps in FCP” All these people mentioned by you and me here helped me a lot in my editing career and my transition from premiere to FCP. I never looked back You are also doing great work 👍
Thanks, Harwinder! Love Hollywood:FCP and Josh Veal’s awesome video on Luma Forge’s channel about Hollywood reconsidering FCPX for television. Josh is on a gig right now so no more videos on his channel until he wraps that up. Appreciate you sharing these resources!
Thanks a lot for the tips, I am a premier user and am switching for cost reasons. I was worried about organising the file system and confused about the different terminology, libraries events etc. Also worried about where fcpx stores its stuff. Your videos have sorted me out !
So glad to hear that, Andrew! And welcome to FCPX! Something else that I'm working on but unfortunately won't have ready soon is a video going more in-depth about FCPX's Event Browser and how to use it to organize your footage, make selects, markup interviews, etc. vs. what I used to do in FCP7 (and others probably do in Avid and Premiere) is to use timelines/sequences to organize my footage and then pancake them and copy paste. The Event Browser in FCPX makes that workflow entirely pointless. Be sure to check out my other video - Top 10 Mistakes in FCPX. That may help you as well. Thanks for watching!
Do you have any advice on where to go learn video editing in general. I’m not just new to FCPX but also to editing and I want to learn editing techniques and all the things about timing and whatnot, how to make footage look cool. Is that covered in the resources you mentioned?
Great question, Viizii! A lot of my content covers the technical side of editing - menus, features, keyboard shortcuts, etc., and I'd definitely like to add more content about the creative side of video editing. Absolutely. For me, the best channel out there right now that's helping teach the creative side of video editing is This Guy Edits. Sven does a great job breaking down movies and their editing as well as talking in-depth about visual storytelling. It's a great resource, and if you aren't a subscriber definitely subscribe to that channel. ruclips.net/user/svenpape If I think of some others, I'll add them here in the comments. Good luck!
Thank you for these helpful tips. I'm very new to using this editing program to create some ads and I'm overwhelmed with how advanced this all seems to me. I'm not very tech savvy but I'm trying over here and this will take time & effort no doubt with some heading banging against a wall here and there. These beginners tips are a great starting point. I've "Liked and Subscribed" to your channel. Thanks again.
You're welcome, Missy! You're definitely using the best NLE for those of us who aren't terribly tech savvy - you think FCP looks complicated, take a look at Premiere Pro or Avid. Yow. You'll know your way around FCP soon enough, no doubt with the help of RUclipsrs like me. Thanks for liking and subscribing and welcome to the channel!
Really good advice for ppl getting started! Also for more experienced editors switching to FCP the Thomas Grove Carter Videos are a must-watch! They improved my workflow so much!!
Yes, the Thomas Grove Carter vids are great! Going to include those in a follow-up video where I add some of the great recommendations I've gotten in the comments for additional resources for FCPX newbs. Thanks for commenting!
@@matthewTobrien One of the most inspriging Thomas Grove Carter demos was this vimeo.com/194855528 Showed it to my Premiere buddy. Had to swallow hard a couple of times.
Been using FCPX for a couple years. Always learning. Your channel and your content rocks - always constructive and informative. Picked up a few helpful resources here - thanks. Is that a Cubs hat??
Love your channel, Matthew. Thanks for all the videos. I currently use DaVinci Resolve Studio (paid version) and know it pretty well, but I’m thinking of switching to FCPX. Biggest concern I have is the lack of audio editing for things like adjusting LUFS and the need for plugins for features that are built into Resolve like object tracking.
Your concerns are certainly founded, Mark! FCPX is really great for vide editing, but DaVinci Resolve is king when it comes to color. FCPX may never come close. Same may apply to audio - where ProTools and Audition may be top of the game in that department. Final Cut has some powerful tools, but I have to imagine real sound mixers feel it's missing quite a bit. But I do think Apple has made Final Cut Pro X to be a dedicated video editing app that *can* work in high end pro workflows (with help from plugins, 3rd party apps, etc.) it is most likely made for content creators who are doing really great work ... but just don't get into the intricate post-production workflows we see in TV and film. And for those creators who really are great at all areas of post-production, DaVinci is showing that they want to target those users by having a single app that can do it all - media management, editing, sound, vfx, and color. FCP7 Studio used to be that way (although the apps were separate), but I think Apple wanted to simplify it and knew that RUclips, social media, etc. was going to be their target user group (and if Hollywood embraced it here and there, great, but not a big deal if they didn't).
@@matthewTobrien Thank you for the detailed and personal response. I have some concerns about switching to FCPX, but I think they're more of a "how will I do this" rather than a "can I do this" type situation. Once I learn the program, I think it'll all good. All I know is, if FCPX can be used to create a professional film like "The Toymaker", then I know it'll be more than powerful enough for me. Thank you again for the reply & have a great 2021!
Have them watch this video specifically: ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=fcpx+paradigm It is such a great video for non-FCPX editors to watch to see firsthand what FCPX looks like compared to Premiere Pro. Hopefully some of your friends will give FCPX a shot! There's a free trial at least. :)
I like all the suggestions but found the FCPX Facebook group caustic. Lots of people with the attitude that they were born knowing this stuff. I asked a question and got told to sell my computer 😂. I’m an airline pilot by trade and we’d never think of answering a newb with such a vile attitude. I think it’s immaturity/insecurity giving people a little stiff hard on ridiculing new people, So I steer clear of Facebook groups except zcam E2 which is much more approachable. RUclips is great. This video is an example of the good resource it is! Thank you
I agree that the Facebook groups can get a little rough when the more experienced editors chime in on the questions from newer users. It's unfortunate, and it's always my hope that the group admins will keep that in check. Good to know that airline pilots don't turn to the dark side with the younger pilots. 👎🏻 Seems like the comments on my channel, so far, are a relatively safe space for everyone. I'm honestly shocked that I haven't gotten more trolls/negativity. I'm sure it'll happen eventually.... Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the links to the Ben Mercer videos! I was a pretty avid Final Cut user pre version X (hehe see what I did there) but moved into more live production (news, sports etc) right when X came out. Anyways getting back into editing I find all the training is very good at "here's the tool and what it does" but not enough how to actually use it in real live projects especially ones with hundreds of hours of footage. Also, in one of your previous videos you mentioned having a bunch of projects on the go on your "project board" I think a cool video would be about your workflow when working on multiple projects at once or with multiple editors etc.
You’re welcome! Ben does an awesome job going over in-depth how they organize the footage for a huge feature film. FCPXTour also has other contributors from TV who talk about their process when handling mass amounts of footage for sporting event coverage. Definitely going to have more workflow vids on the channel so stay tuned. A ton of content planned for 2021. Appreciate the suggestions - always want to create content that viewers find valuable. 👌🏻🤘🏻
Excellent content! So happy I found your channel. Completely new to FCPX (been using iMovie for a few years) and need to get the basics together. Thanks for pointing us to these resources (Ripple Training etc), really great stuff. Subbed! 👍👍👍
Welcome to the channel, Kristian! I'm excited for you as you transition from iMovie to FCP - glad these resources will help you get a solid footing as you develop your skills with the software. HMU if you run into any serious snags! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
Oh there sure is. One video I recall immediately is from LumaForge's channel (subscribe to them - they have great videos and they make an amazing product: the Jellyfish). Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/S--2K8IcclY/видео.html It's a bit older so some things in the UI may have changed, but Chris Fenwick is a big FCPX user and well known in the community - let me know if this helps you figure out your own workflow!
how to add lower thirds to each markers in fcpx and setup as keyword ? Is there any possible ? Or how to add lower thirds to clips as same as transitions ? I hope im clear with this question
About the best that you can do as far as I know is to add the default lower thirds title using the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + T. That will just add it to your edit where your playhead is - not sure you can do too much beyond that.
@@matthewTobrien I found other option to get that same action. Highlighted chosen lower third and use shortcut Q where playhead is. But thanks anyway for your help :)
hi Matthew .. this is Rivu frm India. I hv been working as a remote video editor & a youtuber and edited almost 200 videos which r active on youtube ( clients & mine combined). Not turning off optimized media and exactly the things u hv been talking about. Now fr the last 2 weeks i hv been binge watching your’s and few other channel and now i hv started editing in fcpx and already edited 5 client projects. I will definitely check out the recommendations u made at the end. … At last i wanna say .. ur videos r so helpful and helped me a ton. ur great man .. will sure been in one. Subscribed on the 1st video i watched of yours. Can u also suggest me some good Facebook groups u were talking about ? and will surely connect wt u on instagram.
I agree with all that you said, but the two most important things, in my opinion, were not mentioned. You started with how to save space when editing on your boot drive. Wait. You should NEVER EDIT on your boot drive if possible! Not only are you asking the same drive to do the heavy lifting to make edits, but also, at the same time, read and keep the operating system functioning. Not only that, but editing, even with rendering and proxy files turned off, will quickly max out the drive that keeps the computer functioning. A maxed-out drive slows dramatically. I think your first order of business is to emphasize the importance of a separate media drive. The second most important thing to talk about is the paradigm shift. The magnetic timeline. Apple bungled the introduction of FCPX when it introduced the new way of editing, while at the same time, cancelling what was then the most popular NLE in the world; Final Cut Pro. The original Final Cut used track-based editing while Final Cut Pro X uses the Magnetic Timeline. You talked about people who dive head-long into just clicking around without first learning about FCPX. That's what people do. So, when FCPX was introduced and the legacy FCP taken away on the same day, most users of legacy Final Cut just clicked around FCPX and found it wouldn't work well as a track-based editor and migrated to Premiere, which had the same track-based workflow as legacy Final Cut. Many called Final Cut Pro X 'iMovie Pro' as a slur. But, if you don't understand the Magnetic Timeline, you won't get the speed that the Magnetic Timeline gives you. So, in summary, my Number One mention is to connect a separate drive for media so as to not choke and fill up your boot drive, and my Number Two is to make it clear that if you can take a few minutes of understanding the Magnetic Timeline, a whole new world of editing speed will open up for you. My wife recently tried Adobe Rush. Guess what? IT USES A MAGNETIC TIMELINE! The idea is getting traction. I suspect that Adobe sees the benefits of the Magnetic Timeline and is dipping a toe into the Magnetic Timeline waters to establish it with an intention to migrate Premiere in that direction in the future. I mean, once you understand the Magnetic Timeline, you'll never slow down again to use track-based editing.
Great input, Don! And I appreciate the advice on how to tweak the vid. I think I'm, for the most part, in agreement with you about editing from your computer's internal drive. I do think there are configurations out there with notebook computers that do allow for editing from the internal - with Apple making MacBook Pros that have 2, 4, and 8TB configurations, I think it's safe - if not encourage - to edit video or photos, etc. from the internal drive. Perhaps partitioning it is a good idea? I intend to upgrade my 2013 MacBook Pro (256GB internal SSD) because I want to be able to edit my RUclips content anywhere in my house or out in the world and not have to have dongles and drives to fuss with. Especially if my media is backed up at the studio on multiple drives. Would I do this with paid client work? Probably not, but for many of us we're creating a ton of content for social media, RUclips, family videos etc. (I do a ton of work on all three of those types of videos as well as all of my client work). I think your recommendation to covert paradigm shift in greater detail is a good one - I do link to a video in the description specifically about that paradigm shift (the video's even titled "Understanding the FCPX Paradigm"). I might actually make a dedicated video about it - not only the Magnetic Timeline but about the Event Browser as well and how you no longer need to sort and organize your media/selects in timelines but in the Event Browser (this work around in traditional NLEs often carries over to FCPX because some new users aren't learning the power of the Event Browser). Love your knowledge of all of this, Don. I hope you've seen the documentary about Apple's bungled roll-out - "Off The Tracks" - I really enjoyed it. If you haven't seen it, check it out! Thanks again for commenting and watching the video!
Thanks! And yeah, was hoping nobody would notice the mustache. Something with the key light and part of my mustache having blond hair and the center being darker brown....made it look funny. As I was editing the vid I'm like, "Something seems off with my face...." Stared at it for a minute and realized my mustache looked funny. 🤦🏻♂️ Oh well, what'ya do? 🤷🏻♂️
I figured as much! I’ve seen the same issue with different clients and blonde hair also gray hair depending on the color temperature of the light. I was thinking, no way he did that on purpose or maybe theirs some internal joke or lost bet, lost a foot😂!

Excited for you, Joe! I think you'll really love Final Cut Pro, and it's great that you've gotten some experience with editing using LumaFusion on your iPad. Certainly check out my friends' RUclips channels that are all about Final Cut Pro for additional resources as you learn the software:

I love how you use other people channels to get students to embrace the learning- just subbed
So important. The FCP community is strong, and it's important to know the best resources for learning!
Extremely good list of FCPX resources! Thanks!
Here's the link!
apps.apple.com/us/app/ijustine-teaches-fcp-x/id1474163299?mt=12
This might be a great "one stop shop" option that's inexpensive yet comprehensive. Sometimes it can get a little frustrating to try to go through other YOuTube channel's tutorials with each lesson broken out into separate videos.
Let me know how it goes for you and thanks for watching!
Found your channel from the collab you did with Brad. Fantastic channel I’ve learned a lot already!
Man, I’m drawing a blank on who Brad is…. 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Now don’t sell yourself short, you should be the first channel to watch. I’ve watched about all of them including Ripple and Larry Jordan. They are good but I’ve learned more in just a few of your videos than I have with a lot of theirs. You explain well and why something is done. Thanks.
Appreciate that! So glad my vids have been helpful to you. 🤘🏻🙌🏻
Thank you very much for sharer all FCPX tips
You are soooooo very welcome, Eduardo! Thanks for watching!
Wish I had this video years ago when I started using fcpx. Your advice is spot on.
Wish I had been making FCPX RUclips vids years ago! 😓🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the Podlamania broadcast!!
Awesome! Thanks for listening and checking out my channel!
A few other channels that I love:
Hollywood:FCP
Unauthorized FCPX
This Guy Edits
Luma Forge
Very professional explanation , recently subscribed and i am so excited to find you !!!
Great to have you, Anastasios! Welcome to the channel!
That was excellent. Thanks for sharing these tips.
Thanks, brother! And totally agree about the original keynote - I remember my reactions vividly. Can't wait for the next big update!
This should be required watching before you even purchase the software! Great tips and resources! Keep the great content coming!
Will do, Spencer! Thanks so much for watching! 🙌🏻
Lots of great tips about Final Cut Pro. Some of them were new to me. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching, Baard!
Here is the original video where I break down the how and why of using a template: ruclips.net/video/GET0s8-lUhg/видео.htmlsi=t1gD4jGY9CbB_Em1
Here’s another version of that video: ruclips.net/video/jxgKjjKhsoU/видео.htmlsi=wCLRky7OFpcasU56
And one more on how to use my templates: ruclips.net/video/f5tnM_3y4KA/видео.htmlsi=RdZvRt-QG2lntiaL
I also have a video where I show I set up a project for editing using these templates: ruclips.net/video/HJ2XEnakF-s/видео.htmlsi=f09Iwox9f31yDsxG
I don’t have a video about setting up Smart Collections.
To learn more about Smart Collections, take a look at this article from the Final Cut Pro user guide to see if that helps: support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/create-smart-collections-ver2833eb5b/mac
I hope to make a video about Smart Collections in the future - it’s an often overlooked feature in FCP, but it’s quite powerful.
Excellent advice, as always - thanks for sharing.
One aspect I'm not sure you covered in enough depth for new users - the Preference: "copy files to Library."
To save on HD space, I unchecked this when I began using FCPX and learned the hard way that, for this user, I preferred to leave it checked so that the library, though large, is comprehensive.
Mathew thanks again, I will use it in my group on Fb about FCP so the starters can use your'e advise...
Awesome! Thanks for sharing and supporting the channel! Let's help as many new FCPX-ers as we can! 🙌🏻
“How we can do same things in few steps in FCP”
All these people mentioned by you and me here helped me a lot in my editing career and my transition from premiere to FCP. I never looked back
You are also doing great work 👍
Thanks, Harwinder! Love Hollywood:FCP and Josh Veal’s awesome video on Luma Forge’s channel about Hollywood reconsidering FCPX for television. Josh is on a gig right now so no more videos on his channel until he wraps that up. Appreciate you sharing these resources!

Super helpful per usual. Thanks a ton.
You bet, Steve! Thanks for watching. 👌🏻🤘🏻
@@matthewTobrien I have already watched the ten mistakes video, it was that one that made me immediately subscribe!
Thank you once again for FCPX tips and tricks!

I just bought a new M1 Mac mini with 16GB 1T ...time to learn how to learn FCPX
Congrats! Excited for you to start learning FCP!
Very well done and thanks.
Thanks, John!
Thanks Matthew! Great info!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching, Garrick!

If I think of some others, I'll add them here in the comments. Good luck!
@@matthewTobrien thanks a lot, that’s very helpful!
Great info. Thank you for the video.
Thank you! And thanks for watching!!!

Been using FCPX for a couple years. Always learning. Your channel and your content rocks - always constructive and informative. Picked up a few helpful resources here - thanks. Is that a Cubs hat??
You’re welcome, David! Glad this was helpful. Appreciate you checking out the channel. And, yes, that’s a Cubs hat! ⚾️
@@matthewTobrien All good except that Cubs hat - Sox fan here. LOL Happy New Year man.
Oof, that's too bad. 🤣 Happy New Year to you, too!
Great list. I have a number of friends on the fence...will share and see if this helps them make a choice
Have them watch this video specifically: ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=fcpx+paradigm
It is such a great video for non-FCPX editors to watch to see firsthand what FCPX looks like compared to Premiere Pro. Hopefully some of your friends will give FCPX a shot! There's a free trial at least. :)
@@matthewTobrien Solid video. Thanks
@@matthewTobrien You’re welcome, thanks for the reply! I stay tuned, already started the list of tips in the video. Really good stuff.
FCPXTour also has other contributors from TV who talk about their process when handling mass amounts of footage for sporting event coverage.

how to add lower thirds to each markers in fcpx and setup as keyword ? Is there any possible ? Or how to add lower thirds to clips as same as transitions ? I hope im clear with this question
About the best that you can do as far as I know is to add the default lower thirds title using the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + T. That will just add it to your edit where your playhead is - not sure you can do too much beyond that.
@@matthewTobrien I found other option to get that same action. Highlighted chosen lower third and use shortcut Q where playhead is. But thanks anyway for your help :)

I love your videos!!! However, are we just going to ignore what’s going on with this mustache! 😂 ❗️
Nope, just a convergence of strange circumstances to create a bit of an illusion.
