Thanks for this video. Some great tips there, I knew a few of them but have definitely learnt a few new ones as well (and no I didn’t know about that last one). One thing though, Tip #2 "How to Import Clip Ranges in Final Cut Pro" - this seems to only work on files like XDCAM, AVCHD and so on but it doesn’t work on MP4 clips, at least I’ve not found a way to make it work, which is annoying as I shoot a lot of my videos in MP4 for ease of use in general (easier sharing with a client, easier to view in Mac or PC without special software etc). If you or anyone else knows a way to do this with MP4s I’d love to know.
#2 Tip DOES NOT WORK, and if it does you didn't tell how. When I click there its always the whole clip and it cannot be shortened. No other options available.
The Photoshop trick - thank you so much!! That's incredible. What I usually did is perform multiple exports (of different layers) of a PSD file and include them separately in the FCP project. That is so cumbersome in comparison to what you showed. You saved me a lot of time in the future! EDIT: for what it's worth, just wanted to let you know that RUclips recommended your video for a few days in a row (despite me initially not clicking on it). RUclips probably agrees with the rest of us that this is a great video 🙂
Jenn, I am primarily an audio engineer that uses Final Cut Pro and I have to say, great tips here, super useful! Especially the one about dragging Photoshop files into Final Cut Pro...mind blown on that one, many thanks!
Awesome, do you have any good starting out videos for using motion? I just got it the other day. To hopefully add some after-effects to my music videos.
I had been editing on a mid 2012 13 inch MacBook Pro. I got away from editing for a couple of years. I just got a 2021 14 inch MacBook Pro and am excited about editing again. Thanks for the tips and tricks! Thank you!
The end really got me..... I love the way you said .... bet you did not know that 1.... and yes ... even though I am still learning, I know lots did not know that 1
I knew about almost every other tip but that last one is definitely gonna be my go to, from now on! Thank you for making these videos! I love them!!! ❤️😊
You should never do audio editing in FCP. Even just simple fade in/out or crossfading is horrible. Any actual DAW is faster, more accurate and far superior.
Thank you, you did a great job. Not only was the content super helpful, but unlike 99.999999999999999% of creators, you DIDN’T waste our time with inane banter. Subscribed.
WOW.. I have been using FCPX for so long time and didn't know few of the tricks. Thank you for sharing. My Favourite is : Slow motion playback and Last Trick which is adjust mix.
Jenn I want to hide my transitions boxes so I can edit my clips. All of the instructions I have looked up don't work for me. Can you help me please? Dan I have 10.1.3 (old)
I know this is a somewhat old video, but instead of using the scaling and position to zoom into something, the transition is actually a lot more smooth if you use the cropping with Shift + C and keyframing that instead.
Didn’t watch all the video and part2, but, how do change the keyboard layout inside the command editor ? It shows a full keyboard while am on a macbook 😅 help 😊
Hi Jenn, great stuff. One question. I can only select a range of a clip if I'm retrieving the info straight off the sd card ( camera plugged in to computer) using the I (in) O (out) keys. Can't select a specific range from the clip in the media import window of fcpx of course, when it is stored on computer or drive. I see you doing it , so are you holding a key and left mouse selecting or what? I ask the folks at fcpx and they are stumped and can't do it either. Thanks , Phil
Do any of these tricks also work in iMovie? There are probably a lot of people like me who are doing what they need with iMovie and wondering if and when to make the leap to FCP. Just a suggestion...
Hello first i wanna thank you for your awesome tutorials , i have a really special request that drive me crazy for the last 2 weeks with ZERO answer so hopefully you will answer my question ! i'm trying to create a revers to a behavior .. so let us say overshoot behavior i wanna revers this behavior HOW ?? can you pls make a video about reversing behaviors ,, Thanks
I don't have a tilda key on my apple keyboard (for the slip edit without moving the other clips) and can't seem to find the feature name to change shortcut. What's the name of this feature ?
I have watched your tutorial with deep interest and subscribed to the channel. However, I did not understand how to select a clip by range (01'19"). I tried with FCPX but it doesn't work. You are probably using a shortcut. Please let me know about that because it Should lighten up my library. FCPX 10.6.4 McOS Monterey 12.6
Jenn, I can't believe there isn't a way to just hide all of the transitions in your timeline so that you can get to your clips without deleting them. In Photoshop you could just unclick a layer. Please help! I have looked all over for then asnwer to no avail.
No wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy the .PSD thing I wish I knew about that sooner!!! I literally accepted that exporting separate layers and then re-importing them into final cut was just a piece of the process. That’s game changing! Amazing video ❤
I just realized that the function you mention in minute 1'19" works only for imports from camera or SD. On the other hand, it does not work if you do import from external HD: do you confirm? Is there a function for imports from external HD as well? I truly love your videos😀
Great video. Thanks for all the tips! I was just sad to see you’re already married. Apparently I’m not the first guy to mention this since I see a picture of you and your husband prominently featured in the background, as if to remind us all, “she’s taken boys!” LOL Well done sir…well done. #slowgolfclap
looking for any green screen editing by you. most of the videos in RUclips I find they go too fast and skip few things and make it so hard to follow on. love your clean illustrations. hope to see some of your green screen edits tutorials. God bless you
Import range of clip feature would be awesome, if we could provide the URL to a RUclips or social video, and allow us to clip small bits. That has to be a huge use case.
I cannot select clip ranges when importing media as per your tutorial. The entire clip is always selected. Using the Shift key I can get certain ranges selected, but after import the whole clip is imported and marked with my selection. Obviously I am missing something important!
I'm a hybrid FCP and Premiere Pro editor and your tips are tipping the scales for me to only use FCP. Is there a native subtitling feature that will analyse the audio tracks and generate captions yet? 🧐
Lovely video thank you very much. subbed immediately. Can you point me in a direction though possibly a tutorial that would show me how to link a video file and an audio file together so that they are synchronised? So taking a video of a person speaking but recording the voice on something else. Thank you very much again.
I didn't know about option-deselect mask range, the psd files which is cool, the hidden text styles, the clip skimming although I had already noticed that you can skim an audio track solo somehow, the difference between duplicate and snapshot a project (always been perplexed about this), and the option-effect mix hack which is sort of unpractical but cool to try out. Thanks!
Hi, I enjoy your tutorials! Thanks for adding chapters. I do have a question on clip importing of ranges. I am not being given that choice on the import screen. I have tried selecting R for range, and also in and out in the area you describe, and it is cooperating. I did hit shift, enter which seemed to allow it to select a smaller portion of the clip, but not really convenient? Any ideas?
Thanks for this! Many reminders for me and some new learns too! But that tilde key - SUPER powerful. I use it tons for retiming so any audio clips don't shift forward as I slow things down.
To skim clips that are on lower layers, you can also turn on the blade tool “B” and the lower clip will skim in the viewer if your cursor is over that clip.
If you liked this video, there's a Part 2! ruclips.net/video/NxxO1dyu22o/видео.html
Excellent ! Thanks!
I know a few things we can do with final cut but ...its a private matter...PM me if your interested...
Wow! Wasn’t expecting to learn so much clicking on this video but so many hidden secrets!
The absolute first time that I’ve watched a video titled “tricks you didn’t know” and I actually didn’t know.
Amazing.
We need more like this.
Thought the same thing!
the final effect is awesome. I did not know👍
Thank you!!!!!! 🙏🏾
Jenn Jager, that’s new to me.
This is some serious stuff. I am definitely bookmarking this video.
your profile picture is not centered
@@itaintitpewds lol. Thanks buddy. Fixing that right away
I’ve been using Final Cut for years and there were several tips in here I did not know! You got a new subscriber 👍

Thanks I found the same issue Jean should mention this limit. I wasted a lot of time trying to limit range on a mp4 source
Just tried the import with the latest 10.6.6 version. Still does not work with H264 clips ;(
Great video. I am only new to FCP and I have learnt a lot from you. Thx heaps.
#2 Tip DOES NOT WORK, and if it does you didn't tell how. When I click there its always the whole clip and it cannot be shortened. No other options available.

Wow that last one 🤯

very nice!
Awesome, do you have any good starting out videos for using motion? I just got it the other day. To hopefully add some after-effects to my music videos.
I frequently use PhotoShop PSD's with layers, you can KeyFrame the Layers which lets you create some pretty cool effects. Thanks for sharing.

How could I make a mockup for tutorial videos like this ruclips.net/video/UkT5GjtNCjc/видео.html In Apple Motion, for Final Cut Pro?
Super useful tips. I’m always learning new tricks in FCP, so this was a perfect video!

Dammit, you're really making me want to switch from CC.
Go toward the light.
Great unique tips! I gotta remember that ~ slip trick
Channel with over 400k Subs commented favorably under the movie and the didn’t even receive a like/answer as a recognition from the Creator? 😳😨
I'm using a WD 5TB Elements Portable HDD to edit videos with Final Cut Pro. What format should the HDD be in for best performance? ExFAT?
Thank you. Watching this video just earned you a new subscriber!!!
No wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy the .PSD thing I wish I knew about that sooner!!! I literally accepted that exporting separate layers and then re-importing them into final cut was just a piece of the process. That’s game changing! Amazing video ❤
Best things I didn't know in FCP, thank you!! Subscribed!
Wow... Very amazing stuff... I didn't know about %60. Thank you.
Snapshot Project does that?! OMG. I wish I had only known years ago!
Awesome video! Subscribed!
Always learning new stuff! That last tip about Adjusting Effects using option was completely new to me. Great tips Jenn!
Very few people explain the audition function.I think it's because many people, including myself, don't understand it 😅
I want to study more. from🇯🇵

so how do you select the range when I'm importing media? I watched you say it and demo it but it doesn't seem to work on my Final Cut....

Why isn’t number 10 working for me? I drag the custom to my timeline, but when I slide in tracking or in spread, nothing happens to the text.
Wow I definitely didn't know some...well at least 7 of them. Thanks!
What a wonderful video .... true to what you claimed ....
I cannot select clip ranges when importing media as per your tutorial. The entire clip is always selected. Using the Shift key I can get certain ranges selected, but after import the whole clip is imported and marked with my selection. Obviously I am missing something important!
Great video thanks. I knew a few of them but lots I didn't know.
with #2 I don't have that option unless I hit shift and narrow the selection down, It's not dragging like you showed... hmmm...
Saved. Liked. Subscribed
That was amazing. I did not know that clip. Thank you so much for your tutorials

aha..the last trick is so cool..thanks Jen..
I know, right!?
Incredible. Somehow I knew your last one but not the PSD hack! lol
Just wanna know why my final cut crashes while importing gopro hero 10 black footage?
🚂 Hi from Michigan - Very helpful, Thanks 😎
Amazing tricks!! Thank you very much!!!!
This is a pretty random collection of things. To put some of those actions in context WHY one would use it like this would have been beneficial.
I have been using Final Cut for a long time, but I still learned a lot from your video.

What kind of music does Alex Lowery make?

Really great tips, thanks Jenn! Newer to FCP, always happy to learn more tips and tricks.
Which one was your favorite?
The split edit! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
Thanks for this! Many reminders for me and some new learns too! But that tilde key - SUPER powerful.
I use it tons for retiming so any audio clips don't shift forward as I slow things down.

Deselecting color mask. Very cool
Photoshop for sure!!!!!! Thanks for this awesome video.
Realy usefull tips God Bless you🙏
