Buster's death is so heartbreaking.
It is?
HE DIDN'T GET OUT OF THE COCKADOODY CAR!!!
Lol. You mean CAAAAAAAR!!!! That ish was crazy as hell.
She kept all those newspaper clippings in an album because she committed all those murders!
Her dad, her classmate, her coworker, all those babies... Annie was a psycho-sociopath and a narcissistic serial killer.
I can't wait for Hollywood to remake the movie and portray her as "misunderstood."😆
@@Osprey850lol😅
Hulu has a show called Castle Rock. The second season is about Annie when she is young. It's pretty good.
It never gets old hearing reactors say how lucky Paul is when Annie rescues him.😆
I know right! 🤭
Similarly with the film 'The Thing' when they say "No, not the dog!" 👀 -x-
@@AishaIsFabulous-x- Exactly!😆
In the book, although the hobbling scene is very different from the movie, it's still said that "ironically Annie did him a favor because his foot had to be amputated anyways to make for a better prosthethic"
Well, I guess in a way he was - I mean sure she beat the shit out out of him, but he would almost certainly haver died if she hadn't pulled him from his car.
@@mistofoles Quite true, but, in a more macro sense, encountering and being at the mercy of the fan from Hell seems awfully unlucky, and reactors have no idea what's to come, so it's still kind of funny.
This is the movie that made Kathy Bates a household name. Horror, comedy, drama…..Kathy Bates does it ALL!!!! Phenomenal actress!!!
When she won her Oscar she told the crowd "sorry about the ankles." Lmao!!
She was fantastic in Fried Green Tomatoes. Not a horror movie but worth watching.
Even after Misery, one of her best roles, I will always think of Kathy Bates as Bobby Boucher's mom.
"I'm your ONLY fan! All those other so called "fans" are the cockadoodie DEVIL!!!"
Youve been playing foosball, while ive been stuck here with STEVEE ooooowww
I was thinking the same thing. Lol!
She Will Always Be The Unsinkable Molly Brown To Me ❤
Annie Wilkes . . . . Period
When she broke his legs...still gives me goosebumps. (Scary ones)
Kathy Bates won an Oscar for her portrayal of Annie.
I cringe every time I see the hobbling scene.
30+ years later and I still shut my eyes during this scene.
In the book, she uses an axe.
who doesn’t?!?! 😱
Annie *does* accidentally knock over the drugged wine, not on purpose.
If you read Stevey King books: the bad guys always have _good_ luck while the good guys anyways have _bad_ luck. (Which is *WAY* harder to write, of course!)
It's one of the *many* things that makes King's writing so dang good!
It's not luck, it's the Crimson King.
@@GregorySnipe You say Ram Abbalah, I say tomato. 🤗
Exactly. With Annie’s personality, if she even suspected he did that, he’d be paying dearly for it.
I remember seeing this in the theater and squirming out of my chair saying “don’t!” when she goes to “hobble” his second leg.
That scene with the sledgehammer is the stuff of nightmares. 😵💫
Great reaction!! Kathy Bates and James Caan are both national treasures and incredibly talented.... The sheriff and his sassy wife are my favorite side characters!! 😂❤
I always said that I'd totally watch a show about Buster and Virginia where they solve mysteries in their small Colorado town.
@@mikefish1124 yep
D.clay Bourne the best!!
I remember renting this on vhs the day it came out and loved it ever since. This and Delores Claiborne are Kathy Bates' best
@thomascibula6072she's fabulous in everything she does. I love that movie so much. Just watched it the other day. Lol
@4:35 And THAT is why I watch movie reactions from FIRST TIME VIEWERS..
Ive watched this movie DOZENS of times since 1990, and it never crossed my mind that SHE could have cut his brake lines for him to crash.
She might kill her favorite author doing that, but she could have him all to herself as well to nurse back to health..
Strong agree! In general, and that she could have sabotaged him.
"Do you know about the early days of the Kimberly diamond mines?"
Scariest line in the movie
In the book he only pretends to burn the book and actually publishes the Misery book. Because as you said it was the best thing he’d ever written because his life depended on it. So Annie Wilkes was the only fan who never got to find out what happened to misery.
Some fun facts: The movie was shot chronologically to build up the Tension between Kathy Bates and James Caan. It obviously worked.
The director Rob Reiner has a cameo as the helicopter pilot.
The role of Paul Sheldon was first offered to Jack Nicholson, who rejected it because he didn´t want to play in another movie based on Stephen King´s work.
This movie is so good.
Contained environement films are a tough trick because it almost entirely rely on the small cast to pull it off without the luxury of travel or change of scenery, but here they absolutely did it.
Kathy Bates and James Caan were both phenomenal.
In the book, Annie Wilkes is from the get go presented as an unhinged psycho (the hobbling scene is with an axe and a blowtorch), but movie Annie is more nuanced with Bates going from moments of sweetness even being childish to going ballistic and thanks to Bates incredible performance, she's completely believable.
In the Oscar she got for best actress, she apologised to Caan for his ankles 😂😂😂
Fun fact, the year after, she presented the Oscar for best actor to Anthony Hopkins for Hannibal Lecter.
Richard Farnsworth and Frances Sternhagen (the sheriff and Virginia) were hilarious.
They're only in the movie, not book characters, but it was a joy to see them on screen.
It would have been so fun if they had made a movie or a tv show centered on those two being ironic one to another while solving crimes.
This is why Kathy Bates won an Oscar. She took it to another level...
Annie and Jack Torrance could have met. In the book, Annie saw the Overlook explode (the furnace blew the hotel up in the book) from her house.
Sheriff Buster and his wife/depety was the most lovable characters in this movie. Sad Buster died, would have loved him being the hero.
This is when 90s got crazy 😂
Virginia’s about that action lol 🔥
I love Kathy Bates she's an amazing actress!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👏👏
dude, she was awesome in "Delores Claiborne".. Another King story... And "Gerald's Game" as far as King movies go..
Yes Dolores is great!!!!
On hulu they have the origin story of Anne Wilks. I't a 2 season story by Steven King called Castle Rock. She doesn't appear till the second season . Christine the car even makes an appearance in it.
If you are gonna get back on the Stephen King train, I'd suggest 'Carrie' (1976) which was the first movie adaptation of his first book, 'Cujo' (1983) which is fantastic and has another claustrophobia type atmosphere and 'Christine' (1983).
The saddest part of this movie is that she killed the sheriff. He and his wife were like hashtag relationship goals.
Virginia was making me laugh😂😂
The list of most terrifying female characters in film has to include Kathy Bates here. I’d add Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction and Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl. Who am I missing?
'Mother' in Psycho 🔪, Carrie's mother, Margaret, Pamela Vorhees(Fri-13th), Regan-Exorcist 🤢
This is one of the best movies I've ever watched. Having said that, it makes me re-think every want I've ever had when it comes to dreaming of being a famous writer.
Good work, I just hope you noticed that you have seen James Caan aka Paul Sheldon in a reaction before, namely as Santino Corleone in The Godfather :)
That’s where I seen him! Very different character without the Italian American accent lol
Did u know this is Kathy bates first big movie.she actually won a Oscar
You're the only reactor to comment about how Annie was right with her chapter play story. She was right, and Paul knows it too, at least in the book. In the movie, he agrees with her, but it's hard to tell if he really agrees, or just agreeing to please.
I remember an SNL parody of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen called “Miasery”, I think. When she gets hit over the head with the typewriter: “What are you trying to say Woody? I’m not your type??” 😂😂
1. A mustang isn't a very good vehicle to drive in the snow.
2. Red flag #1: Anyone that says "Oogie"
3. The way she responded to the fire in the BBQ pit when he threw a match on the book:
What do you expect?
4. In the book Annie chops his feet off (not just hobbling him). It IS Stephen King after all.
5. Kathy Bates won Best Actress Oscar.
6. Rob Reiner is a great director but, it's too bad he's a CPF.😭🤬
7. King wrote this because of a deep-seated fear of what overzealous fans might do.
8. RIP James Caan 😇
I loved your ending commentary, and you nailed why the movie works so well. Mega tension and discomfort, totally! (The book is outstanding, a must read) Love your channel, and can't wait to see you review more Stephen King films, awesome!
Your wish has been granted: "About Schmidt" stars Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates in "About Schmidt." It's a comedy/drama, so neither one is playing a crazy person. That's not entirely true, but they aren't playing crazy that will kill you.
Was going to comment that same thing! About Schmidt is wonderful and criminally underrated!
Saw on opening night and still remember the gasp/scream/cringe reaction of 200 people in unison during ‘the scene’. 1990 was a good year for cinema.
Caped Informer: "If she sees him outside of that damn room... she might literally cut his legs off."
Everybody Watching: Eats popcorn and waits. 😁
Hey, nice to see you watch this. One of King's best.
They did build her back story in the Stephen King Castle Rock. The whole second season was all about Annie Wilks and it was interesting.
Saw the movie before reading the book. I was not prepared, at all, holy crap
You know she got the Oscar for this, eh? I always felt James Caan was overlooked because his performance was much more subtle. But there are scenes where he's saying so much with his eyes. I was impressed.
Ain't no Cosby show theme... That's Junior Walker playing Shotgun!
One of my favorite books.
Kathy Bates did an awesome job portraying this character.
Shes actually a really cool lady, when shes not acting like my ex girlfriend.
Man Kathy Bates is a force. Every role she's been in, she has totally owned. I'd recommend Dolores Claiborne too. Also a King adaption starring her. Totally different role than Annie Wilkes, but again, she nails it.
If I'm recalling correctly, apparently Stephen King loved her so much as Annie Wilkes that he wrote Dolores Claiborne specifically with her in mind to play the role in the film version. Kathy Bates is truly amazing!
She was extremely bad in the office. The show became borderline unwatchable. But yeah she rocks otherwise.
Kathy Bates is also brilliant in another Stephen King adaptation - Dolores Claiborne
I love when he shoves the paper in her mouth I was soooo rooting for him, fat torche!!! but she was amazing in the movie!!! great writing by stephen king!!!
Great review. Paul had to ultimately rely on manipulating her bi-polar/psychotic volatility, as that was really her only weakness.
Haha yes! If Annie would have been Jack’s wife in the shining how interesting that would have been, Jack having dreams about killing his family and waking up to Annie there with a sledgehammer! Haha awesome! Thanks
The reaction you had when the sheriff was shot and killed, was the same reaction I had. I loved the book and movie. Thanx for your reaction, take care".xx
Ever since 1990, I've been apologizing to my sis for screaming in her ear during the "hobbling" scene.
LOVE this movie. One of the last ones I saw in a theater. And since you are touching on the late James Caan rabbit hole, Thief is a MUST SEE!. I think that the way you pay attention to movies, I rarely see you miss something, I think you would like it.
The beginning song was amazing foreshadowing.😊
This movie, has two actors carried most of the movie, and the Sheriff and his wife on the background give a light toach to the movie, and modo swigs from Annie are soo well act, sometimes I feel more worried when she is acting all sweet and childish, like when she is doing pig sounds, and the hobbling scene to after and the I love you is so scary,
One of my favorite movies based on a Stephen King novel. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should also check out Kathy Bates in the film Delores Claiborne. It’s amazing.
This movie is a master class in acting. James Caan and Kathy Bates rareny interact with anybody else, it’s just them inside that room.
Brilliant.
"Another story about a writer..." You have nailed the entire King catalog goid sir
This movie is a masterpiece.
7:00 Two farmers are at the fence talking. One says, "Yep. When a pig gets up to 400 pounds, it's a hog."
The other one says, "So what does that make your wife?"
Ya know, CI, I'm you're number one fan!
8:46 it’s part of the last book you written that’s already published.
yeah, about that work annie did on paul’s legs *AFTER* the crash… 👀
Now you need to watch Gerald’s Game. Another Stephen King adaptation, directed by Mike Flanagan. It’s intense!
Yours is an excellent review with great commentary throughout the entire movie!
You called so much of the book. She does cut a leg off in it, she DOES have a point about the ending being bad.
And Miserys Return IS one of his best books
Your videos is the best ,i love your reactions to this movie, great job!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍
9:22 not bipolar disorder, people suffering from bipolar don't change their mood several times in a day like that. They have longer depression and mania phases.
You should watch another one of Stephen King's adaptation also starring Kathy Bates called Dolores Claiborne
By my count there were only 7 characters with speaking roles, including the inn keeper and the cop addressing the media. Pretty rare.
If you not watch
cujo from 1983 you miss definitely a masterpiece of animal horror from a
Stephen king novel !!!
Ps: Stephen king himself says after the movie "terrifying" experience and his favorite so far.
Another absolutely amazing Stephen King/Kathy Bates movie is Delores Claiborne. It's definitely a must watch!
I love that movie, watch it at least once a year. The book is also amazing and intense. But Kathy Bates and James Caans acting are so on point, better than i imagined them from the book.
Great reaction bro...I absolutely love this movie...Can't believe it took you so long to finally watch it though lol.
This and Delores Claiborne are her 2 best movies in my opinion.
The fact that you missed the penguin reposition says you don't have ocd. Not 100% fact, just a probable observation.
Great reaction
You gotta do Dellores Clayborne next! The whole cast just knocks it out of the park
Great movie What always piss off about the movie is what happen to the sheriff (In the book it is even worse), He is such nice guy. but that is horror movies for you and that is why I almost never watch horror movies .You should other Steven King book adaption like Shawshank Redemption ,The Green Mile., Stand By me . Actually I like The Running Man which also a Stephen King adaption tough it is much better than the book. Also I recommend The Dead Zone which had a great tv show as well as a movie.
Incredible movie, considering there were basically 4 characters. That's masterful writing.
If "Stan" was a movie, it'll be this!
A lot of, if not most of Stephen Kings main characters are writers.
I saw the movie before reading the book; there were some scenes where Annie would self-mutilate in front of Paul and lick rat blood off her fingers when she caught one in a trap and amputated some appendages.
That said Kathy Bates was brilliant.
That is so cool how you put Kathy Bates and Jack Nicholson together like that. You do know they did a movie together titled, About Schmidt? Good movie. Then again, too, neither one of these actors done a shitty movie or television appearances. May I suggest a movie to be added to your movies to watch list, Primal Fear starring Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Andre Brauer, Steven Bauer, John Mahoney, Alfre Woodard, Frances McDormand, and Edward Norton. It’s a psychological thriller that I think you might like. Looking forward to your next reaction. Take care! - Gene A.
Another great reaction! You always crack me up and have great insight
One weird thing about this movie was the 1970s "made-for-tv movie" music
Kathy Bates was also in Dolores Claiborne
So glad you finally watched this!
My Fav Stephen King Movie is Sivler Bullet. let me know when you do that one bro.
Kathy Bates was fantastic in American Horror Story.
I have heard that in the book she cut off his feet.
32:38 - I bet you have a big comic collection with alt universes, etc.
And the Oscar went to..Kathy Bates.
Great reaction man! If you like Kathy Bates in this movie, you must check out Dolores Claiborne. She is absolutely phenomenal in that movie, even better than this one. And it’s another Stephen King novel.
This was Kathy Bates' first movie.
Surprised you didn’t get to this sooner
Me too
Very nice film!!!
