43:07 Think you hit why most of these buffed, under used utility skills aren't, well, being used right on the head. They're personal/solo focused and are usually made redundant in group content with proper builds. Really shows how the design document has moved on from players being able to be self sufficient within a group.
This!!! The game started with the idea that individuals are empowered and can be self sufficient. This to me is way more fun, and was when it was full force. Now it's mind numbing group play focused. The game has turned on its head...

Power harbinger isn't a ranged build, it just has a couple of ranged options. In shroud, everything except autos is basically melee. Sword mainhand is a dps loss but its there I guess.

Look, I don't mind Nades. but it was really cool to use a kitless holo without crippling your dps.
Heal Turret being more usable makes it a more viable source of a blast finisher for Quick Scrappers.
Out of all the ele specs tempest has been getting the most love and updates these days, most of the recent broken builds on ele came through tempest. Which is weird to me. I mean there are some nice changes sure but yeah...haven't seen any real changes/fixes etc for catalyst in ages. Nothing about energy, or other sphere adjustments. Nothing to make it even a remotely appealing choice as a qdps choice.
I think currently only mirage is pkayed less (r.i.p. mirage you never really did manage to make a comeback)
I feel tempest is heading towards what chrono is for mesmer, which imo is not a good thing if it means pushing one spec into non existence (cata + mirage)
Honestly catalyst is just horribly designed. The specs power budget was heavily baked into the dumb hammer 3 orbs that honestly should have just been the class mechanic in some form (such as on element swap and unleashed various skills based on weapon with F5) given how important they are. The spheres then could have been well utility skills instead of the “augments” (stances 2.0) and the hammer could have had real and actually fun skills on skill 3.
I read this patch as them making soulbeast even better at hand kiting deimos

how does he get to have skill icons in the patchnote ? it doesn't look like it's the wiki version but the actual forum page. Is there a browser extension for this or something ?
It's code that he wrote himself. I don't think he's made it public, but the wiki has a similar version with all the links and icons (no dark mode though).

mirage can use help, not just in pvp, also pve
Elementalists getting some love but still not enough. They should really look into the core of that class and its elite specializations for DPS. I would like to see touches on Power DPS for Catalyst, and the Tempest getting some more buffs on Condi DPS. I think they lack big time when it comes to DPS.

Hello Mightyteapot and other gamers. Just a question I was wondering if you could answer, here or otherwise maybe in one of your streams: Do you think professions (or specializations) that are rotation heavy should be rewarded having a bit higher dps numbers or survivability in pve compared to professions with easier rotations?
Yeah. You don't see flamethrower engi topping the dps charts for that reason.
We don't speak enough about the fact that ward skill are now functionally different in PvE and PvP.
Right now, every split focuses on value (damage, cooldown...) or some minor tweak (condi applied, boon generated...).
But this rework will make ward skill perform an attack when put down on. This is a complete new skill by design. They didn't insist that much on it, but I think that this split must be very hard to handle on their part.
The Elixir U change is a significant nerf in PvP and WvW. 33% reduced duration but only ~20% reduced cooldown. You might argue that it gains some value because of the more frequent stunbreak but you didn't mention this and seemed to assume that it was proportional.
the overload fire and earth of ele is 180 not even 240, air and water overlaods are 360 and i think the boon apllication (not the damage) for fire and earth should be 360 too , or else will always be a seocnd pick choice against warhorn.
Ranged dps idea: hybrid rifle/longbow zerker 🧠
It feels like the GW2 community was in a slump when I first discovered this awesome British chap. And I was just getting burn out of FFXIV's 6.xx patches. Now, even though I leave All Notifications on, but never click on the GW2 updates, it seems like the community made a successful upward movement since then!
Piercing shards and Flow like water are just begging for a power Ele build that uses water instead of freaking fire for everything damage (-___-) also while i don't really like pistol that much water 2-3 both being ways of applying bleeding is like OMG please more damage in water!!! But then figuring out now if we making water condi with chill and bleed or if we using the two traits mentioned above that improve strike damage. Also also i would love it if they could decide whether or not staff should be full support or full dmg because this weapon mirrors pre HoTs ele design of jack of all trades and master of none.
I play a Holo because I liked the aesthetics of the holo forge and the engi sword, not because I want to spend half of my time spamming nades. Having them nuke kit-less holo dps skills by 15% while over 100% heat so they can force us to toss more nades is disheartening. I will be shelving my holo if this change actually goes through.
I don't know why people hate using grenades' on engineer, feels great swapping from your hammer to another kit imo. Makes it feel less brain dead and more engaging, Scrappers eatin good.

In the reddit thread. It was due to the wonkiness of large hitboxes. Prior to HoT raids the only "big" Champions was Lupi in Arah. Then with Raids the combo of Staff, Ice Bow, and Flame Sword was too much, and Anet has decided to never forget. This issue is increase more in WvW with the nice giant Zergs.
I don't hate grenades specifically, I just don't like having to use Kits. Conjures and Kits are just both clunky. Put them on Weapon Swap, please, we're not using that button for anything else.
Prett meh patch. I don't have internal info or anything but it seems to me that the balance teams cannot change much besides number tweaking. What this game needs is a proper rework of utility skills. Maybe this can only be done in GW3.
This isn't guild wars 1 which has a massive amount of skills and its "ok" for a lot of them to be bad to the point you will never look at them. Classes in GW2 have a limited amount of utility skills and on some classes the majority is simply not worth considering, depending on your preferred game mode.
I am not even complaining about numbers design but ability design. For example thief DPS venoms are the most boring stuff I have seen in a long time, an ability like that would have gotten pruned in WoW a long time ago and replaced with something more interesting yet in GW2 you put not one but two brain dead buttons on your limited utility bar if you play condi thief. Spider Venom and Skale Venom are basically the same button, same cd, same functinonality, same use case. It was ok having the same ability twice in gw1 but to me having this in gw2 is insane.
Same with most signets on a lot of classes.
The decision tree to activate an ability needs to have some depth to it and not just "use on cooldown" otherwise its not a "Utility Skill" but an extension of your dps kit.
I encourage anyone to look at their classes utility skills and check when the last time was that you used it in any game mode, if you cannot recall having used it, it probably needs redesigning. Ele for example just has a lot of dead stuff there too.
All of that even extends to elite skills of which each class only has a few (fiery greatsword).
@MightyTeapot if you are ever bored, it would be cool to have a utility skill tier list video with categories for pve, pvp, redesign and needs number tweaking tier.
As a specter adps player... My keyboards number 3 is busted and my bindings for 7 & 8 "utilities" are connected with a tape. (Spider Venom and Skale Venom have the same cd)

Meanwhile deadeye benching 49k+ in both power and condi. Virtuoso being one of the most prevalent spec in the endgame.

They had like 10k dps worth of condi nerf to the Axe in the patch last week ?
The difference is Deadeye's benchmark is unrealistic, while Virtuoso can achieve his rather reliably.
Power virt was trending towards mid for a while.
@@Nooctae and it still tops DPS charts, now you will be able to stack them and there were 0 nerfs for power which also benches 49k+

waaaaait frozen burst now auto puts down ice field, wouldn't that mean it can't be used to blast other stuff anymore. it's often used to blast for might after putting down ring of fire or the fire carpet on wh fire 5, this is gonna overlay that??? nooooooo my core dd ele!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭 also it really locks frozen burst down to only one possible use... well shit. after this patch gonna have to try it but oh no...for first time I might have to be that complains about a change 😭😭😭😭
edit: ok I guess they're giving an air skill be blast finisher...I guess we at least got back the free blast, but man my old dd ele rotation is gonna get so fucked lol orz when I came back to the game and was replaying from core ele I depended on the dd ele rotation. might have to relearn it lol

Fully agreed with the point that Elementalist is the best balanced class in the game and its everything else thats been power crept to heck. Been saying this for years!
i'm an ele main and while i can agree i also cannot wait for ele to be apart of the new world order XD
This patch was supposed to bring up some underused, underpowered skills... So what did they exactly do in this direction for engi? Healing Turret was already decent, they just nerfed elixir X and toolkit for pvp, where's the rest of the turrets, bomb kit, rest of the gadgets?

Scepter Ele in PvE feeld meeh.. Also Pistol in PvP/WvW is meeh. Now they atleast buff the Scepter for PvE. Heal Warrior Buff in PvE okay.. but for PvP its super broken. Core Warrior Heal in PvP is already broken since the Staff came out and i can pump out easily 2-3million heal with a fully braindead one weapon only build lol
Elixer X is trash, people only use it on core engi for moa.
kits aren't the issue: pushing ONLY granades is the issue. at this point i would suggest to rename engi demoman because whats the point of doing any power build without grenades. no matter what elite spec you HAVE to take non mech non holo grenades
like i WNATED a condi flame thrower kit. but for some reason they made it power focused and not even good
Aside from the complete f#*king they gave to Diamond Skin, eles came out better off on this one.
Only change for elementalist I don't like is the change to earthern synergy in pvp/wvw. The change pretty much only affects one build, freshair weaver and it's a pretty massive nerf that reduces it's burst by about 3-4k damage and there wasn't any buffs to compensate for it. I'm all for the consistency of making stuns not deal damage, but please don't nerf an already slightly sub par build without giving compensation buffs to it. Also, the compensation buffs need to be specific to weaver because the nerf was specific to weaver. Other than that, I'm happy with the other ele changes but a little sad they didn't mention anything about ele pistol or catalyst's energy mechanic.
I agree with teapot 100%. The patch is good but underwhelming. I was really looking forward to buffs for heal renegade, it needs a regen and swiftness source, also easier application of protection and more might. It already heals enough, it just needs to apply those 4 boons to be good.
I bet Ele mains are still crying anyways even when they get special treatment they cry.
So tired of them with the thief shit for pve can’t swap up anything that has been played for years and years still only 2 off hand weapons that are so boring at this point of years of playing for pve sword has yet and still looks to not even be remotely playable outside of rp reasons or meaningless boonrip (unless they buff it a good bit more). Just so tired of being a player that loved being a thief main. Also why even bother with the 10 person port? When other classes can do it better and it’s only a 1 way port so you sacrifice a better utility for something that’s so niche. Venoms are basically what’s been carrying the thief condi builds so they have been doing fine but everything is so overtuned that you have to do benchmark performance to compete in damage unless people aren’t caring about how they play or are just casually pressing 3 which is the most pressed key for thief. Idk man I’m just so tired of it. Oh there’s axe? Bro that’s just pistol with extra steps that is or was way overtuned. It’s at the point where if you want to be competitive with thief and have fun while playing it you just don’t touch thief and pick up another class and do better and be more helpful to your party even heal specter isn’t even that great because most people in the game for pugs in end game content can’t seem to understand what stacking is to even get off your small area healing effects. Yes I know specter is more single target but why even have it if you have to rely on your group to understand a simple mechanic of the game that is necessary you have to work so much harder than just playing another healer. There I’m done ranting for now. Who knows it might change and no I’m never going to touch p/p because that the most boring play style imo
Elementalist pistol commits the worst sin in game design. Being boring.
Anet haven’t done anything interesting with elementalist since PoF.
