Bouncing back to Sneb's comment about feeling alone sometimes: I feel the same way too. Sometimes I watch teatime or read the chat and think damn, am I the I only one left enjoying my time here without feeling trapped in the game and being a doomer? I can see the shortcomings but I'm so happy to play this game. Happy. I feel like no one is anymore. Feels lonely.

    • @Luumus
      @Luumus Год назад +4

I think the negative people will always be louder than the happy ones. I for one am really enjoying the game, the new content has been pretty fun for me, for the most part, and I have a great community of people who are also really enjoying the game. When I watch teapots stream I do feel like I'm the only one who is still happy with the game as well and that's because unfortunately all of these doomers are a small but very loud minority that kind of warp people's perception of the game to be more negative than it actually is. And what's worse is that they will influence people who are generally happy with the game to be less so. I just wished they would take a break and go on with their lives if they don't enjoy gw2 anymore. Though to be clear I think it's perfectly legitimate to have criticisms about aspects of the game, and to share them with the devs and the community, but when it's hyperbolic "the game is dying, the devs are stupid and should be fired, what were they thinking?!" then it's counter productive and toxic.

@leftwardglobe1643 it's likely cause they feel vindicated here. After all, Teatime is the place where the streamers/players vent and discuss the game so those who feel strongly, will speak out. Negative emotions always incite a stronger reaction as it's built in our DNA to respond to them

    An all time great episode.
    1) Sneb describing his mindset about being stuck with GW2 hit home. I picked up New World when it came out and it just didn’t have the comfort that I have built in GW2. It was a decent game but I came back.
    2) teapot going unhinged about losing faith in arenanet with instanced content was completely true. ANet has been inconsistent and directionless historically. It’s up to them to earn it back at this point.
    3) Reed’s suggestions for QoL in GW2 were concise and useful. ANet really should look into incorporating successful ideas from other games into their own. Everyone is already doing it to GW2.

Really smart analysis by Sneb identifying that insight about group content being a search for players who will let you fail and learn. The know-before-you-go mentality in so many groups is a big reason why I just avoid that kind of content entirely at this point. It's just not fun for me. I'm here to play the game and experiment, not to research and train. That feels like a job to me and it's not why I'm here. I don't hate on people that like that kind of thing at all, either. WvW really depends on what server you are on. Some are more dicks than others. There are a few like the one I am on now that majority of the commanders are all about getting a group together and just having a good time. Even if we get rolled a few times it's okay as long as people are having a good time.

    • @jhmi7877
      @jhmi7877 Год назад +1

Yep. Servers definitely differ and it's a good example of social cohesion being a good motivator for playing the gamemode. When I'm around people I like playing with, the desire to protect what I or the community worked for can come naturally. And since this encourages people to participate even more, then it's an organic way of leading players to where the activity is, which tends to also be where the fun is.
Unfortunately, GW2 kneecapped the 'social cohesion' side of WvW when they introduced server merging. It's not a surprise a lot of people who played WvW left around that time. It just wasn't fun anymore. The hope is that Alliances will bring back that sense of community, but hard to tell at this point.

  • @chris2236

    • @jhmi7877
      @jhmi7877 Год назад +1

I don't think you're far off the mark. It's one of my main concerns, as it doesn't seem like it will change much from how things have been the past years, wherein people leave their servers to join ones that are bigger/better. At this point, I feel like they should just go back to how it was (all servers were completely separate with none of this world linking shenanigans), but with some changes to make sure things don't get stale like they did back then. Which mainly means that Anet will have to do consistent maintenance and checks on the state of WvW--i.e., checking on how balanced the matchups are, and communicating with their playerbase--two things that Anet's been bad about historically when it came to WvW.

51:06 This is an interesting time period for GW2 pve because this is actually how FF14 used to play like before the current revisions to establish harder pve content. We see a bit of this now on how they are trying to make certain builds/classes easier to play (ei. Ele and Necro) and newer instance like EOD Strikes and silent surf being a step up in difficulty.
Arthas (a known ff14 raider) touched on this and warns how this method is dangerous if there isnt an established middle ground between the casual and hardcore gameplay ruclips.net/video/lqRgPd4otkg/видео.html
We are just fortunate that people like Teapot and Sneb are players who clearly care and are willing to help players get better. But there needs to be a place players can improve on their own pace

  • @shadycat8898
    @shadycat8898 Год назад

I really like the way that OSRS implemented difficulty into their third raid, Tombs of Amascut. You have difficulty modifiers for each boss that change the encounters in some way. You choose which modifiers you want active and that increases the difficulty score. Progressing higher allows for better rewards. This method seems like the best option to me because the core issue of the difficulty debate in MMOs is: what is the floor, what is the ceiling, how many levels do you have between?
The floor has become obvious: it must be literally impossible to fail. I have my qualms about group content designed for people who inherently are non-cooperative/individualistic/aloof, but it's just the truth that you have to make the "LFR" version 100% clear rate.
The ceiling can be high. The problem is the levels between. GW2 tries to have only two levels with the occasional third level (XJJ title for example). It just doesn't work. Anet doesn't give themselves the flexibility to tune encounters to reach a varied audience that way. I'm not sure if ANY developer could effectively create a handful of difficulty modes that could address the stupidly varied scale of performance between players. Having that many modes would just overwhelm people. The true answer really is to let them craft their own challenge.

What i like in gw2 is open world - almost every aspect of it - world bosses, puzzles, traversing maps for some hidden things for achievement, nuking mobs, doing meta events. This is pure fun for everyone and i think gw2 should focus on that. I'm sure, not one hardcore veteran mmo player will play gw2, because it is not for excel and data lovers. It's for ppl like me - after 8h of work, tired i wanna smash dragons, get something to progress even a little and chill (to the bone), not waste my precious time to check numbers, watch countless tutorials and curse on other players or being kicked every time i do something wrong.
The other thing is community. When You choose guild that suits your need, gw2 will be awesome. When You play instance with random ppl, god!, i'm sure you will have feeling that this community is based on toxic nolifes. So do not go into instance with randoms, get into guild that is what you need and do stuff what and how you like. Sorry for bad english.

There are so many questions that was never answerd up to now.
There is simply not enough guilds in WvW anymore. And all the random players without a guild is gonna be placed on alliance worlds just outside but still sitting on siege on walls, or ignoring calls for help on fights in tier 3 keep because their weekly camp must be done or they want to get the catmander tag.
As for getting in, i sort of agree that it is rough to figure out at start, but i would just run to spots where calls are point towards in chat (which usually have a link) and try to add what ever i can and help out. Love Reed and great talk overall. But i feel Teapot when it came to the instance content discussion was just rambling. Like Reed and Sneb mostly focused in the cadence while teapot was talking about something entirely different? Maybe it was just me, but i completely missed the point of why instanced content does not work according to teapot? Like it needs to be accessible and needs difficulty scales, but fractals and strikes has those and that is great but then it also does not work? Like i am not disagreeing or agreeing with anything but I genuinely could not follow the train of throught.
Also Sneb is 100% correct about the negativity. But i do not think it is recent. This has been the case ever since the meltdown during the HoT launch. Ever since then the online discourse around the game in the forums or reddit has been vitriolic and people keep on excusing it as "passion for the game". The HoT meltdown, the multiple times the subreddit was tricked by PvP cheaters, the flaming of streamers like Aurora Peachy for how she played in the PoF beta (!), the vitriol Sneb and Teapot got for liking launch Dragon's end, the toxicity Mukluk and Artyo got for trying off-meta builds for the fun of it, the death threats on Anet for a bad balance patch....This has been going on since 2015.
At this point we just have to admit it. A non-trivial part of the Gw2 community, left in the own devices, are genuinely awful and the healthiest thing would be to just isolate yourself from the discourse in most public forums.

Teapots point was that the fact that there is no difficulty scale to raids disconnects the casual player, who would otherwise partake in them if there was a lower difficulty scale, from being more invested in people clearing the hardest difficulty scale of those encounters. Most MMOs casual players are the majority, if you push the majority away from a specific type of content because its too hard then that content will die because of player retention. EoD strikes are too hard for most players without even considering the CM. Even BS and whisperer are hard for casuals, its rare to run them without a couple people being dead. Theres always fractals groups going on, at least whenever I check.

After the recent balance patch and the info about Soto it feels like they're out of fresh ideas and completely out of their depth in the balance department.

And I literally like the boon system in GW2 as itnis different fro WoW and FFXIV 😂 I don't want another wow clone where we remove protection alac Quick because "it is pointless."
To me the appeal in supports is to upkeep the boons permanently and play off meta heroes like not heal firebrand 😂 or Herald. Vondi Alac Tempest or Heal Specter are so much fun. Having to play around with boons and thinking what you need makes it fun.
Quick Heal Scrapper having to pull a rotation to upkeep quickness and mistake is no 100%?
Med kit 5 to blast gyro to shield 44 and next time blastgyro function gyro and shield 44.

I may have issues with Alac and Quickness, but I can accept that it’s just a matter of personal taste. However what I called pointless was the full uptime on defensives support primarily such as Protection.
I much prefer when there is decision making behind the defensive cooldowns such as WoW and FFXIV as opposed to the full uptime in GW2.

@@ReelyreedGuild Wars 2's biggest meme is "You decide what you want to do for fun!" I think the biggest problem here is imbalance of builds?
I must slightly disagree. Do you know the difference between Heal Mechansit and Heal Tempest?
Mechanist is smooth brain level easy to play healer where only decision is to decide when and how much you need to heal.
Mean while Heal Tempest has giant list of things you must decide before you even start playing her:
      Weapons:
Scepter/Horn best might and good range dps
Dagger/Horn best boons, good mobility and good melee dps
Staff is best healing and revives but Might generation is 180 range 😏but your staff 33 has stability so you can take it instead for stab.
Sword/Horn will be interesting idea which I will explore when next expansion hits.
      Traits:
Water/Tempest is your healing and alacrity.
Arcane default offering healing, revives and best boons.
Air traits if you need to give fury to the group or want to push dps.
Fire traits if you need condition cleansing in fights like XJJ CM 😁
Earth traits if you want to tank and want easier protection. You could also take this as tank to give stability 😂 but it is more meme way of giving stab.
      Utility:
Wash the Pain Away! is only healing skill you will ever want. It is like 7k group heal.
Signet of Water is great healing utility you can take as defensive utility which makes you choose when to use it as you don't want to spam it.
Glyph of Renewal is THE best reviving skill with high skill ceiling as it offers different revive based on your attuned element 😉 heck a lot decisions to be made to save people.
Afterhshock! is your aegis and protection but you don't neccesserily need it, especially if you run quick herald dps.
Eye of the Storm! is your stability and super speed.
Feel the burn! is your might generation.
Flashfrees! is your regen and Frost aura for -10% dmg taken.
Arcane shield can be used for blocks when tanking on top of using aftershock! for aegis.
Lighting Hammer can be used for cc if you really want but horn 4 is also great cc on big hitboxes.
Frost bow has decent healing around the target if you want to min-max healing.
Lighting Flash for mobility if you need it, like in Harvest Temple Challenge Mode.
Signet of Earth with Earth trait line allows you to stack ton of damage redcution from 40% protection, 17% earth traits, 10% signet of Earth and Frost Aura from Flash Frees! going upwards of 77% damage reduction 😁 You will still feel like insta dying on Desmina despite running full minstrel in that setup 😓
Rebound! skips downstate once with long cooldown. Useful on some figths for safety or skips. Gorseval using it on trandrum saves people and has short cooldown to be avaible on all tandrums.
Glyph of Elemental is your best healing skill hitting upwards of 12k on party members 😁 it also has around 10s cooldown and is off the global cooldown so you can spam it away same way as Feel the Burn! and few other skills.
🤔 I think having that much decision BEFORE you enter a fight is a lot.
There is no decision making on defensive cooldowns?
Glyph of Renewal best reviving skills in the game hands down with 4 different effects based on your attunement is biggest decision you make when someone is down.
Becasue if you run Arcane traits you can also just press F and with Staff you could just press Water 3 to revive them.
You can also use your Glyph of Water to heal and revive little.
Not to mention if you run any variation of the build there are some limitations and decisions.
If you need to heal do you camp water for while until you are stabilized enough?
If someone went down they will lack Protection so do you now give Protection or Might first?
If you camp water too long to heal you lose all dps boons and are left with Vigor and Regen.
But if you ran Fire Traits to condi cleans are you even giving vigor or swiftness?
Do you skip Air or are you doing full rotation which is to attune to all elements to give all boons.
By learning all different variations and altering the build to fit all encoutners trough the play is fun decision making which also includes stats 😱
Do you run Harriers? How about Minstrel to tank? Givers? Magi's? Monk Runes? Transfarens? How about you run Plaguedoctors to do condi damagei n Earth/Water/Tempest using Dagger/Horn? Snowcrows only pretty much tells you to go full harriers or minstrel to tank but they don't talk about Celestial or Plaguedoctors, do they?
You also can give different Auras. Frost aura is -10% damage but unfortunetly it does not work against Vale Guardian's Green which is % based, only barrier works. Fire aura gives might when they are hit. Shock aura cc's when they are hit. Magneti Aura reflects projectiles which you need to avoid in some fights so your protection suffers in those fights (Cairn) FlashFreesh! is an ability you can use just before you know there is going to be heavy damage.
Your main goal as Heal Tempest is to maximuis your damage and healing while upkeeping all boons to best your abilities. If you don't min-max the higher damage and healing why don't you just play Firebrand or Mechansit?
You can run full water staff tempest with 95% Alac and Regeneration if you want. That amount of healing is overkill but doing so in W2 for examples is fun 😏 you will keep people alive too well. Pair this with Quick Herald and you have protection covered. Ofc you want to run Dagger/Horn Fire traits to condi cleanse the heck out of everyone 😁
Did we mention Combofinishers? You can blast fire fields for might or water fields for healing. But you can also blast frost field for frost aura reducing damage by -10% on party, staff 2 4 will blast frost field and flash frees allows you to upkeep the bonus much better on your group as defensive abiltiies which you can save for mechancis.
      No decisions at all ^
TL;DR: Heal Mechanist's only choice is when to heal and how much to heal, that wall of text is decisions you make on Heal Temepst.

Fyi sneb's take on wvw is extremely incorrect based on my 10 years rank 400 level of experience in wvw on yak's bend NA.
There's usually 3 types of content a new person can explore. 1) get in for dailies and get out 2) roaming, find some smaller engagements, 1v1s, take camps/monuments/sentries, and 3) zerg enjoyers who like gvg and taking/defending keeps. You DO NOT need to be social to engage with ANY of those 3 styles. That's the beauty of wvw.
Fyi winning the matchup does matter for 2 reasons. Getting more pips for skirmish ranks and your server matchups in the future. A lot of servers try hard the start of the week then throw matches at the end to intentionally not move up

    • @Snebzor

I always try to preface any mention of WvW with "this is just my experience and I really haven't played a ton". It may be not the norm, but it's just my experience.
I think it's changed quite a bit, too. I used to roam quite a bit, but now I hardly ever find any other players. It is very dependent on what server you're on and when you play.
I really like WvW, but I honestly find it difficult to talk about it ever without getting absolutely pounced on. The community is clearly very passionate.

Best thing about GW2 is even if the new content isn't as good as you hoped, you can still play the old stuff. In WoW you're stuck doing bad content for months/years because everything else is irrelevant as soon as it comes out.

I ran heroic/normal Vault of the Incarnates for 2+ months for the hunter bow only for them to say it's damage output is a bug 2 months later and nerfing it by 80% the week after I get it. Then, in Abberus, my guild is 1 raid night away from getting Zskarn while its a 20 pull fight, and then they change it into a 100+ pull fight letting every other guild essentially just skip it. Playing WoW just feels like psychological torture at this point, and I say that as a BFA/SL enjoyer. The raids just aren't as good as they were in those expansions to put up with stuff like that especially now that the free M+ gear is better than half of mythic raid gear.

I don't care about personal player progression either, but if you don't go out of your way to get these items you're just trolling your raid, especially if you're going for Hall of Fame. Not caring about progression and being forced to do it to be competitive just makes it worse when the final bosses are tuned so tightly. Razageth was so tight my guild made everyone on the raid team swap to engineering just to do like 1% extra damage to a single add.

@@WatchThemFall What I mean is that I don't care about having to grind for gear and FOMO doesn't affect me because I just like playing the game anyway, I will happily grind for 24 hours for 1% if that's what it takes lol, stuff like that just doesn't affect me mentally in any way as long as the game is good.
I'm currently grinding all 6 tanks to 444 just to have them ready to grind for season 3 depending on which is the most overpowered and preparing for splitruns. Doing that isn't really a chore because the way you get gear is by doing content that I like.
