For those that don't know, if you simply click on the pvp icon (two crossed swords located top left corner) and enter to easily access your bank and vendors and then you can leave and return right back where you originally were.
@@IxaxaarCZ it does, both the pvp lobby and obsidian sanctum work, also wvw includes a TP, essentially all the items save you is 2 load screens that everyone can get free (Mistlock does the same, only has access to everything, upon using the key you go back to where you were, however if you log out this won't work, Logging out of the WVW maps puts you back in place, so the wvw maps can be even faster - and again free) and yet, the bank one costs 5k gold, funny that ey.
@@IxaxaarCZ The PvP one can some times bug out and drop you in LA, for example, go to PvP, then leave, then go to another character, the character select screen will still show you in PvP even when you left. It can also just drop you at the start of the map, say you are camping Flax on Draconis Mons, it can drop you at the start of Draconis Mons. If you go to character select in PvP you'll be there when you get back in that character, if you log out in PvP when you log back in and leave PvP you'll go to LA. From my experience WvW is a safer bet when you need your bank or a vendor, but that comes with queues at times.
A couple of people have pointed out that the various makeover kits have additional exclusive options which are unavailable during regular character creation in them. This is true, and places the kits' rating alongside items like gliders or mount skins - they're still purely cosmetic, so if you like these exclusive options then go ahead and buy them! You can probably tell how much of a fashion wars player I am for forgetting that.....
Thank you for adding this! I agree with your rating, they are really not needed. They're fun. However, the exclusive items did need noting as is probably the reason why people do buy them
Tbh, Fashion is something medium important for many people. They kits main use really are the exclusive stuffs you get with them. But yeah, they are not great value. Personally, I spend my black lion statuettes to get the kits if I need one.
@@TheSorrowfulAngel 100% Fashion is probably 50% of my grind. I got into WvW just because it was the best place for transmog charges and tomes of knowledge (though I enjoy WvW now) and I used to get my kits via Black Lion Statuettes. They're not value of many at all. The best thing a fashion player can probably get and save up for is the endless hair kit. As long as you have the face you like, the possibilities are endless. I think I worked out that if I change my hair (for Charr this includes the Horns and Asura/Sylvari. I wished they added Norn Tattoos as some can work as face paint to the hairstyle kit) over 30 times, I've made up the converting gold to gems for the 250gem hair kit of the cost with the Hair Contract.
@@TheSorrowfulAngel considering the way I play and mostly zoomed out from character, I find the fashion items not as relevent for me. I do sometimes look at other player characters and zoom in to do so but such doesn't impress me enough to care or to envy the "look" of others. Even during the time I played ff14, I didn't have so much interest in fashion though I feel that 14 is especially focused on fashion vs challenging gameplay. Kinda too easy imo. ...I digress. Good video and thanks for the great tips on how I should spend my real $
I would assume it is because if you had all your similar crafting or all your crafting on a single character, you are going to have a much more streamlined crafting experience. Characters are probably super good for dealing with when your get Diminishing Returns.
Yeah... it's fucking nuts. Such a convenient thing. Not having to have garbage crafting mats fill up your inventory all the time. Makes it easier to deal with and saves time when you do since you can do it in bulk.
I'm late but there are a lot of new players so I will leave a note here. 1 Store expander is a huge deal. It would be probably my first buy on new account with salvage-copper-o-matic. TeaPot is looking from the perspective of a veteran with 300 slots in his inventory. When you don't know what's what and you have like 60-80 slots in your bag you get overwhelmed after every meta run. This thing is one of the best life improvement for a new player. He has the fair point tho. It delays your gold. You should always check your material storage whenever you need gold. You probably sleep on gold and you don't know it. I had like 400 g in materials when I realised that I can just sell a big part of it because I won't need 99% of that stuff at the moment.
@@sebastian5742 He's talking from a perspective of someone who doesn't need the mats. I'm not selling mats that I will need in some months to craft legendaries.
So true. I think 2 is sweet spot. Once you got your feet wet. Collecting and storing becomes so critical since you need them for so many things. I would recommend 2 for the 750 storage. This way if you do daily time gated crafts, you can basically buy mats for a week (there are some mats that you need 100 of; 700 for the week). Tea should have mad that distinction. It is so critical. It was the biggest QoL for me. Better than salvage kits.
You also have to take into account that Anet has "Black Lion Exclusive" hair styles, hair colors and faces you can't get unless you use a hairstyle kit or total makeover kit.
I was about to comment this. One of my favorite characters has Taimi's hairstyle which can only be gotten from the Black Lion Exclusive. So Honestly I'd put it in a "Buy it if you like it" because if you change your characters hair to something you REALLY like, then it was worth.
The makeover kits are actually worth it once per character because they offer a lot more cosmetic options when compared with the actual character creation. Just saying
Nobody: Teapot: You don't need to buy hair kits or make over kits, just get your character right first time or remake your character. I have a feeling he doesn't know there is exclusive stuff in them kits. (Also I totally agree, just remake your character if you did something wrong in character creation and only buy these if you want the exclusive stuff.) Also, if you're watching this on the day of publish, Drizzlewood Coast will be free for a week very soon.
Great list! I want to point out sales may change the value of bundles a bit. Generally, the items in the bundle (character slots, bag slots, bank slots, that sort of thing) can occasionally go on sale. As far as I can tell from the Wiki, the bundles never do. So if you're patient, the bundle is no longer much of a saving, if at all. For example: End of Dragons Preparation Pack (3000 gems) - Character slot (800) - 2 Bag slots (400 each, 800 total) - 2 Build Templates (300 each, 600 total) - 2 Equipment Templates (500 each , 1000 total) + the lvl 80 Boost + 10 keys (considered a free extra, see the tier list for why!) So contents value = 3200 + freebies However, what about when they are on sale? - Character slot (560) -- (it goes between 20% and 40% off, I chose 30%) - 2 Bag slots (280 each, 560 total) -- (they go between 20% and 50% off, I chose 30%) - 2 Build Templates (210 each, 420 total) -- (they go between 25% and 40% off, I chose 30%) - 2 Equipment Templates (375 each, 750 total) -- (they go between 20% and 30% off, I chose 25%) Core content value when on sale = 2290 When comparing the bundle value with the core-content-on-sale value, it means the 10 keys + booster you get actually cost you ~900 gems.
As a new player, nothing has helped me more than the reusable TP to friend. Skipping puzzles and getting to a group leader when you dont have everything unlocked is a life saver.
My biggest issue with a lot of this Gem Store functionality (e.g.bag slot, bank slot, build slot, gear slot) and to a lesser extent the stuff meant to make inventory management easier (e.g. account-wide inventory slots, permanent salvage items, endless gathering tools) is that it is all a classic case of designing a problem and then selling the solution. I don't mind the purely cosmetic stuff or the sidegrades (like home instance nodes or VIP areas etc.) as much because they don't really fix a problem that was existent in the first place. The aforementioned items however, wouldn't have to even exist if the systems were just designed differently to begin with. For example: why are trash items still a thing in this game? If their purpose is to give a small amount of copper/silver when selling them to a vendor, why not give me the money as a drop straight up? Because they are designed to fill up your inventory and make you lose track of what you even have in there so you'll be more inclined to buy bag slots and bank slots. I recently tried out FF14 and let me tell you, not having to constantly do inventory management was a godsent. I understand the need to draw a line somewhere when designing these systems, especially with the buy to play model in mind. However, personally I find this kind of artificial inconvenience to be annoying and honestly a little bit insulting considering the fact that the game IS still a paid product and other paid products offer a complete experience (even multiplayer features) for my money, no strings attached. And no, I am not hating on this game, I have played consistenly ever since its release back in 2012 and have bought all the expansions and LW chapters (and even some bank slots). I am mentioning this because I think in their pursuit of finding new avenues to monetize the game the designers at ArenaNet have become increasingly more guilty of this psychological manipulation and I see that the competition is doing a better job at monetizing their games without a need for it. And yes, I would actually be willing to pay a small monthly sub fee for GW2 if it meant doing away with all this inconvenient nonsense.
That's their chosen business model and tbh there's nothing special about it. You either make a monthly price subscription service with the well-rounded game interface (which is World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy 14, etc.) or a one-time purchase with loads of microtransactions i.e. expanding inventory slots, boosters, infinite tools, and such (which is Guild Wars 2, Path of Exile, etc.). GW2 is great content-wise, but it's really frustrating to feel like I'm constantly being trolled by the game, designed to make my game experience tedious at best if I don't want to spend more money.
fully agree, but ffxiv is actually guilty of this too - just much later. you WILL eventually run out of inventory space even with how much inventory you get for free because gear treadmill means endlessly expanding list of crafting materials and relic items and etc. and then you realize that the only way to get more storage is to pay for more retainers (bank npcs), which are $2 a MONTH per retainer. but yes, it's much less obnoxious about selling you more inventory, and the "problem"of inventory management is less severe
I'd much rather pay a sub than have dodgy systems built into a game that you have to pay to fix. I've been playing 48hrs after being an mmo vet of pretty much every other one out there, and can't believe it is still a thing. I can deal with p2w mechanics like xp boosters etc, that's fine, cosmetics too... But paying for bag slots? Really???
Need a video on what to do with the piles of crap in material storage. What can I sell right away, what’s worth holding ? What can be easily crafted for high profit? Thanks for the great videos!
I'm with chat, you are under valuing the material storage expansions but I think you are right about diminishing returns with them. I rate the 250 -> 500 S tier, 500 -> 1000 A or B tier, and over 1000 C or D tier. The reason why 250 -> 500 is S tier is there are currencies like winter berries that you can farm faster with multiple characters but you need 250 to 500 between the storage, character, and bank to buy the items. Without a bank access item moving the mats out of the storage to clear up space for depositing all usually require swapping characters or leaving the map you are farming. For 500 -> 1000 being able to move 4 stacks of ascended mat spam (especially bloodstone dust) instead of 1 or 2 at a time between storage and an alt character saves time plus you also have festival currencies that require 1000 at a time to convert to the higher tier item (candy corn to cobbles for example). Basically it's about clearing the storage space so you can deposit all on alts when farming. That being said if you have the permanent bank access contract most of this is moot as you can then just quickly move the mats to the bank to move to an alt later but that's an upgrade that cost more than a gen 1 legendary so for most player more storage is a much better value.
Just use the bank in the obsidian sanctum. You return to your previous location by pressing the exit button on the wvw ui panel, or just by simply logging out / character swapping.
I would also add that there are lots of items you want 500 of if you are going for legendries. 250 -> 500 is most definitely one of the biggest convenience items in the game in terms of item slots saved. Selling and rebuying items as needed is a 15% tax.
Definitely agree, there's also a lot of items that I want to hold onto a stack of incase I need it for crafting, so having the option to hold 2 stacks in storage means I can just sell off one of them whenever it fills without every being 'empty' then.
I think up to 750 is SSS tier. There are some mats you need 100 of each mats for daily time-gated crafts. You can buy weeks worth with 750 storage. It seems like the sweet spot. After 750, it starts to fall off.
I can confirm. My friend was constantly on and on about how useful it is (especially for a Fractal God). Then I got that free (birthday present?) 2-week lounge pass of choice. I fell in love on day 2, even though I've already been using Crystal Oasis one for over a year.
i got the armistice bastion and i'm confused why people seem to like the mistlock more. the bastion has golems to test skills on, far fewer players so it loads faster, and the ability to TELEPORT to all the NPCs and crafting stations. since 99% of the time i go in there to access the bank and TP, that is uber convenient.
@@asatsuki9250 Well, when you tp to mistlock you are just one special skill away from most NPCs as well (if not all). You don't need to test at golems all that often either, and you can tp to aeorodrome (raid hub), Mistlock Observatory (default FOTM hub) or even just to PvP lobby (though some skills work there a bit differently of course).
The recharging teleport to friend, it is 1hr cooldown. But that 1hr is 1hr gameplay, so if you use it and it has 37 minutes left when you log to another toon or log off, when you go back onto that character, you still have to wait 37 minutes to use it again
the one item I truly whaled hard on was the permanent bank contract. few years back I saw it was down to about 2k gold. I had 1k gold on myself and said screw it. Spent about 200 bucks that day... BUT. I use that contract EVERY time I log into the game. And it's in a sharable slot, too, so I can access it from any character. \o/
For levelling up, once you start getting birthday presents (especially 5+ year old) you also get the partial full boosts (lvl 50 boost, etc) saving even more time on levelling too on later characters. Also infinite gathering tools into legendary armoury when?
And then theres me, only lurking for griffon skins in gemstore xD But to be serious, great tier list! Def also nice for newer players and players that dont know much about the gemstore stuff
For me personally the Endless Upgrade Extractor is way under rated i swap out builds alot runes/sigils etc its basically having all your items legendary without owning legendary items.
I concur! Once I acquired the EUE, I felt like I hit the jackpot (got from a black lion chest!!!)! As much as I switch builds/gear and play around w different runes or need to change my sigils, this tool has saved me so much gold, not to mention the gold I've made back reselling spent runes/sigils I decided I ddnt want anymore. Experimenting w build craft is one of my favorite games and this tool is a must-have!
"anything that makes crafting less annoying will always be high tier" but didn't want to make mat storage high tier despite it making high level crafting way easier than clogging up inventory space for mats
Don't know if you noticed, but there are certain hair styles etc that only come with those kits, so "making your character right the first time" doesn't apply in that case. You can look and see what they are if you go to a makeover npc and decide before you buy.
If the Character Equipment Slots and Build Temps are more expensive but ACCOUNTWIDE i would say its fine...but this Charbound thing is really crappy in my opionion. I would pay 800-1000 gems (500 is way toooooo expansive) when i can use it for all accounts like the shared inventory slots...but this way is garbage
I've got 1,000 material storage cap, and it's perfect. I can make two Vision Crystals basically at will thanks to having that much available anywhere to any character, in case I need to work on an Ascended weapon or Coat (still haven't fluffed out the armory, nowhere near making a Legendary)
Something I don't see in any of the comments, about all the times Teapot mentions "just make a new character" - the only exception I feel is if you're playing a ranger and you've already gotten all of the pets. Rerolling rangers is a 3-6 hour waste of time to get all of the pets back even after a level 80 boost, and since you'll have none of the waypoints it'll almost certainly be even worse. This is the only class I can excuse paying gems to avoid rerolling. (I do agree with "you should've done it right the first time" ... but I've more than once had characters who I had made when this game first came out who I've wanted to rename 5-7 years later, at that point I've gotten enough playtime out of them that I don't feel bad paying Anet a bit extra to support the game I've enjoyed so much) For relatively-new characters though, absolutely, bank/sell everything they own and reroll.
Bank storage increases by 250 each time. If you craft a lot of legendries the extra space is great. So first 1 or 2 is A tier, the next 2 or 3 are B tier, beyond that the value drops off. 1000 limit should be plenty for most people.
The event portals and VIP lounges are amazing for cheesing your way around Tyria; the Gendarran Fields one is especially good for getting to dive master locations and Pact Supply Network Agents, as well as easy access to the first Orr map.
Mistlock Sanctuary (Fractals) = Armistace Bastion (WvW) >>>> all other VIP areas. They let you teleport back to the spot in the world you left, so you can use them in the world as portable "everything" stations. Need the back, TP, crafting? Teleport to Mislock, do your business, teleport back to the middle of the Jungle.
Having watched this when I started the game and now having played the game for several months, I would say that 1-2 bank slot and 2 material storage are more QoL than the salvage kits in my opinion. There are merchants everywhere so you can easily buy kits and most drops these days are stackable unidentifiable gear. There are so many materials you need for various crafts like legendries. 2 material storage enables you (if you buy 2, you'll be at 750 storage) go long periods of time without having to opening a storage mule and dumping mats there. There are some materials like T5 and various others that you get quite often and you need a lot of. The default 250 storage fills up so quick, then you end up having so much junk in your inventory. I often run out of inventory space mid events. It might not seem like it, but it's really annoying switching characters and pull items from material storage onto that storage characters so often. Also, I buy a week's worth of mats for daily time gated crafts, and used to store those in bank. There are some items that require 100 mat. With 750 storage, you can basically have a whole weeks worth of mats in the material storage and not have it clog your bank or inventory space. You're also possibly saving on one character slot due to expanded material storage. 2 additional bank tabs are also big QoL because there is a lot of items you get that you quite often need on various characters. These things I store in the bank. Things like fractal potions (before getting omni or not having enough shared inventory, WvW boosts if you don't have candy, storing candy corn so you can use it on any character, etc...).One tab fills up pretty quick. Having 2 is a must. It's also a big help when you need to transfer a lot of items between characters. And you can never have enough character slots. They are so valuable. For storage, for parking alts at jumping puzzles you may not like, for farming time gated mats quickly, etc.. Here are the items I believe to by biggest QoL and would buy basically buy with this priority based on value provided (try to buy only during sales): - expansions (you get content, character slots, and shared inventory slots) - LW3 + LW4 + LW5 (see if you can pick up the expansions + LW bundle during sales it's massive value for money); content, gold farms, mounts, and ascended gear farm - candy corn gobbler (soon as you can since it only comes during Halloween event) - 2 material storage expansions - 1-2 bank expansions (depending on your play style and what you're doing) - Snowflake gobbler (soon as you can since it only comes during Winter event) - Salvage kits - Then alternate between character slots and inventory slots until you have ~12 characters and ~10 shared inventory spaces); I keep one character slot open at all times to farm weekly black lion keys One of the biggest QoL we need is account wide gathering tools. If you have unbreakable gathering tools, it's a still a hassle to switch although shared inventory spaces make is bit easier. If you need quick vendor access from anywhere in the world, just use hop onto PvP or WvW (if you are spending few mins there, you get some progress points). Basically the same thing as mistlock and you can use those gems for more important items for now.
A positive thing about farming your home instance can be buying the LS nodes early on, and farm them daily. So in case you have completed or just don't give a damn about the LS maps anymore (especially LS3), you can still farm the nodes and consume them. And in a later date, that can happen with LS4. Of course they are not mentioned since they are not a Gem Store item, but they are included in the home instance farming.
Easy way to get Transmutation Charges is to make a new Sylvari character, ranger is easiest. Do map completion in their city and you get 1 charge, delete the character, do it all over again. Saved me a ton of cash.
Home instance : there's a IMHO hidden value in it : if you level cooking up to 425, which is really cheap, you get bank+vendor access from anywhere in the open world. I think bag slots are better than 32 slots bags. Last time I looked at the price in gold, 2 bag slots + 2x18 bags was cheaper than 1x32 bag. I also think mats expansion is hard to place because I think 1 is A, 2 is B, 3-4 is C, over is useless, even when gathering mats for precursors. I think build templates (for account) is like mat expansion, the value is really high but degrades really fast. The character dedicated ones (items and templates) are like the crafting license but more streamlined. Switching alts or switching builds, a matter of choice. I think "repair" is "don't buy" unless you wipe a lot in end game. I never had any TP seller and will never buy it even if I have money. I also think I would sell it if I looted it as I find this one totally useless. This seller is at one keystroke when poping in then sanctuary in case I need it (really rare). Thank for perma bank, as you said, it's just expensive a toy. I think the vanilla deluxe addition is quite nice : immediate bank access when creating the BL weekly key for far cheaper than the perma bank. Allowing to fast run the key from level 1.
Well, depends on your needs and how far ahead you're looking. While 32er bags are with around 200 gold fairly expensive, a bag-expension also costs 120 gold + the bag of your choice. Yes, on the first look it's cheaper. But if you don't just play one character and don't whale the sh*t out of the game it's different, you might paid 400 gold more for a set of 5 bags (if you went for 160 space), but you can easily transfer them to any character you wanna play. You can equip one character with 5x32 and place 15er bags on all other characters. I'd argue up to 3 material expensions are A or B. In some activities like SW you get several stacks quickly. The mobile TP vendor IS useless, unless you trade a lot. Also you don't even need that item to buy or sell items, you can do that whenever you want. You just can't take out the gold or items until you're visiting a TP vendor.
I would strongly recommend you do not use mystic forge stones for those, it's much better to get em from stuff like charged quartz, rare crafting or weekly raid challenge motes!
Infinite tools should have always been account bound, but these days you can't even change that over how many people just got several sets for their main characters.
Heart of Thorns Deluxe maybe should move to C-tier, actually. Most of it is Fashion Wars stuff, but it does contain a character slot. With that item, being in the same tier as vanilla Deluxe doesn't sound right. I'd also add End of Dragons Deluxe (yes, the Deluxe content of EoD released before the actual EoD expansion) to C-tier too. Same deal, one character slot and the rest is for fashion.
I'd add that the black lion industry/expedition board are way better than people think. Unlike most of the home instance nodes, it is free money, every day. Don't have to use it, login, logout, take the money. It take 20 sec. They pay off after a long time IRL, but doesn't ask for any in game time investment. It also give something most important than gold : time. It can give you map currencies and some untradeable items that can be only obtained trough farming, which is a great time saver. Mine gave me several thousands of bandit crest and geodes without having to suffer to go in dry top and silverwastes. I prefer them to the garden plot because garden plot need some time investment and to buy/harvest shit in the open world to make it worth it and it become a daily chore.
I got Jeweling on my Huntsman/Leatherworker Scrapper because I got tired of having to swap to my Elementalist who's never set foot in Cantha yet to make Dragon Jade to upgrade my Jadebot.
I needed 3 more core tyria mastery points to get Advanced Logistics, so I blitzed the first 3 chapters of LW2. I believe there's 8 mastery points available by simply finishing each chapter, and another 8 if you do the associated achievements for each of them.
Says Axe is rendered obsolete by mounts...40secs later... says he's a lazy player for lounge passes... axe toy is useable in home instances (faster gathering) + all story missions, dungeons & fractals and allows your profession's dodge mechanic/traits to proc while wielding it (mirage speed+#2axe fast charge) where the choya doesn't. Axe+Choya are supremely worth it!
Material Storage Expanded - try crafting a single Legendary Weapon with just 250 stacks in Material Storage, 4 bank tabs, and 4 Crafting Unlocked and unlimited Character-Storage-Mules.
- Transmutation charges: Instead of wasting gold/gems on gemstore transmutation charges, try going for legendaries instead - in the long run, you'll end up ahead ( legendaries don't require charges to transmute) and of course a huge QOL inherent to any leggy piece of gear (pro-tip: don't make your first legendary weapon an underwater one :D) - Another reason for why character slots are S-tier: if you're serious (though not necessarily hardcore) about fractals and plan on doing them a lot (over long period of time), you can get Fractal God title (there are 4 tiers of this mechanic, each one grants a title with 4th one being God/Goddess). This makes it (among other benedifts) so that you constantly regen some health per second PER CHARACTER ON YOUR ACCOUNT. - Build Storage: if you need that many builds, you are most likely serious enough about w/e you're doing you'd be better off using ArcDPS for that.
Nobody ever believes me about the buying gold thing. I always bring that up. What's worth more, working one hour of overtime at your job? Or spending 40 hours in a video game not having fun just so you can have fun later?
You work to put food on your table and have a warm home. You shouldn't look at videogame spending like this. It's a game. If it's farmable as easy as it is in gw2, why are you even playing it?
35:50 To be fair, material storage expansion saves you some gold cause if you instasell just because you can't store anything, you'll pay the tax and you'll eventually need to buy some of the stuff back later (and probably even pay more on top of paying the tax when you sold the mats) in order to craft stuff. Being able to store instead will make us avoid paying the tax to then rebuy later. Also once you have 2 or 3 of them the value falls down drasticly though cause until you craft enough stuff to go through 1000 T6 mats, you basically would have refarmed quite some of them so there's no need to store more of them. But the 1st one has quite some value, 2nd is fair and 3rd might be overkill but still provides some QoL, anything beyond that is borderline useless.
The value that new players in particular can get from the rechargeable tp to friends is absolutely insane, and veteran players still get a lot out of it, saving wp costs, arriving instantly on location even if it is far from the nearest wp, positioning alts at alt parks and bringing them into content... Etc. I think it belongs in a or b tier, personally.
I got two sets of infinite gathering tools as part of bundles, and they're nice to have for my non-scrapper characters. I have my Volatiles on my main mad scientist though.
Honestly, I really disagree with the material storage. As a refiner I would put it on s tier, simply because you gain silk/mithril/elder wood so fast that it becomes quite annoying to refine it constantly and resell the refined counterparts. Same with other mats, like elonian leather squares and others, I prefer selling those when the market peaks so it makes my life so much easier to get mat storage :D personal opinion tho!!
Yeah that's fair, when I'm handling huuuge resources I typically just do it through the bank and/or a separate character but they definitely can be handy for sure!
And here I am dumping all my gold into gems to get Black Lion Keys for Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlocks/Statuettes lol. After unlocking all the cheap stuff beforehand keys are clearly S tier for me. Cost me around 75g to get all the 500-700 gem skins now (just 20 to go). And since they get updated with the new stuff every 4 months I probably will never stop doing it. Got everything out of the Knife Tail Gang Hunting Bonds too last time they were in the shop, 2000 gem mount skins for 45g bwaha.
Yeah keys are undervalued here a bit, Like I made bank on the day the love weapons came out, as they only cost 1 ticket and I had a lot saved up thanks to chests, gained a good 360ish gold instantly. Plus sometimes the bonus item you get every time is worth a lot of gold. I usually buy keys instead of the new shop item outright as well if I like the skin, high chance of getting it, and then just buy a rare key with the statues if you miss it sometimes :)
I really like my Lily of the Elon permanent portal. So I would recommend that. I use it as a utility hub for all my chars. Lily of the Elon is gorgeous and compact, and has everything in one small space. One big plus is that I no longer have to listen to LA map chat. The worst thing that happens in the Crystal Oasis map chat is that people nag for help with Facet.
I used lily since PoF but have been using mistlock for the past year, trust me when I say the QoL is far better with the mistlock if youre a lazy player, having crafting one button click away from you ( you get the special action teleport in mistlock) is huge, your guild bank, merchant, TP, and Bank is literally right next to each other as well, the only benefit lily will give you is having a teleport to the desert saving on waypoint costs. also if you love open world pve then mistlock lets you return to your original location which is really nice if youre doing exploration
Build storage expansion, equipment expansion and LW are only things I aim for as I play only 1 char but like to test and try many builds for pvp, wvw, pve, open world, value of build templates really depend on how you play the game, if you play more chars for diferent scenarios like usinf thief only for pvp and engi for wvw you ofc dont want build templates.
Wish you'd mentioned that the Candy Corn Gobbler now has a 5 second cooldown and gives the buffs directly, not as boosters / costumes. Or maybe they changed it later on, this is already 11 months old at this point. Anyways, just 300 gems, not a huge problem.
The monetization of build and equipment templates really is disgusting. You're literally paying to be able to store 1 line of code. There is no reason they couldn't have done it like GW1, and just storing all templates as text documents in a folder on the players hard drive. This is EA levels of greed and player fuckovery.
It's not because it has no ingame equivalent that it's better... Copper is still the priority and the most important since you get a lot more blue and green and you can still craft 250 gold kits to salvage gold items. Rune and Silver are about the same. Having ingame equivalent doesn't matter since you don't buy these items because they have or don't have ingame equivalents but to not be forced to buy salvage kits all the time.
What does the Axe at 15:55 do? I don't remember seeing that in the gem store, and i couldn't understand what he was saying about it. I also can't find it in the wiki.
You can run a lot faster on foot with it so instance content i.e. dungeons, story missions, living world, etc where you can't use mounts it works well for. wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Executioner_Axe_Toy
the candy corn gobbler is annoying af to use. you have to eat a stack of candys in 20 mins for a 1h exp boost like nah fam its " buy it if you like it" at max
13:00 Buying gold being S tier is interesting. Especially considering that I personally in my gameplay feel like the ultimate endgame goldsinks are legendaries and getting gemstore items. So trading gems-> gold feels like ridiculous waste of gems, but maybe makes sense if you are new and progressing through the game.
Can you please confirm, how much ecto gambling do you have to do, to get this mobile "merchant"? I've been looking into it and I found different opinions.
Not sure if he brings this up in the video, but I'd bump up the Identity Repair Kit and the Hair Style Kit to "Buy if you Like" tier. There are certain Face and Hair options only available from the self-style kits. Other than that, if you aren't buying them for the exclusives, then yeah, not worth.
- The thing i like is that when u have both the permabank access from anywhere with ur bank slots, it basically kinda like ur account wide slots in a way... - With material storage, i sell mats when its at 2000..so i know i still have 1750 and can make some gold while still having a good amount of the material left if i need to make something... - Yea the crafting license is the same for me..i don't want to move components and change from character to character. The build process is annoying as it is.... - I like the garden contract..i use it to grow the herbs for my metabolic and utility primers i craft and use with my recipes...
i think you cant get ascended food without garden (you can't leech ascended stuff from garden it was working long time ago but arenanet "fixed it") so i would move it higher
I'd say theyre not even really worth it in dungeons and fractals. for this to have any real value your whole party needs to use it otherwise you're stuck waiting for them anyway. this is why you only ever really see it in speed runs. it can bring a tiny bit of value in core tyria story i.e weekly keyfarming.
If you have 4 or more alt accounts, and a strong enough PC to do so, you can bring all 5 characters into your home instance while multi-boxing. Equip them with watchknight/volatile tools, and suddenly you're getting 5x the value from your home instance. Don't clear it on your main (the instance owner), and you could repeat it with 4 more alts. I don't think it's worth doing more than once a day, since it takes ~15 minutes with practice.
If you have a Mist Lock Sanctuary scroll you don't need a repair kit. Just click the scroll, repair, and click again to return to the exact spot. Easy. I think you can just go into WvW or PvP and do the same thing.
I buy gathering tools with karma that collect volatile magic. Once I gained the opportunity, I continue to keep picking them up with karma. Seems like I never run out of karma but I'm still a newb at about 4months in. That said, I'm hooked on the tools that give me vmagic upon gathering as a bonus but also have so much vmagic that I don't know what to use it for....or, have never run out or even low. Whats the best stuff to buy with volatile magic?
Home instance TP has another quirk that is worth mentionning. Unless they changed it (I haven't done my weekly blakc lion key in years), it allows SKIPPING TUTORIAL. - Create a new character - Use the TP Immediatly (from a shared inventory spot) - Exit the home instance via the alternative exit, and you are in your home town. You get credit from completing the tutorial (including the xps to get to lvl 2) when you exit your home town into your race's starting zone.
Also, if you go for the lvl 40 story black lion key, the item is useful during act 3, when you are required to backtrack to your instance to speak with the orders. Using the Home Instance TP will give you access to a version of the instance where the order representatives are waiting for you (unless they changed it). Leave the instance normaly and you are back where you were to continue to the next mission that should be nearby. Without that you need to first unlock a wp close to where you were before porting to town, and then back.
@41:20 ish.... dude I just pay the silver to swap around. I wont put it on other characters because it takes way too much time, and that character may also be parked somewhere I dont want moved. OR just cant be bothered. But I WONT pay for the upgrade because its per character. What happens if you decide you dont want that character anymore? Will they give you back the slot upgrade? or is it gone forever?
Bag slots are totally not worth it if you play lots of different characters... And the value of the infinite tools varies with how many characters you have and if you can be bothered to move them around. Equipment templates dropped in value a lot to me when the wardrobe came out.
Single use items are in the gemstore so that anet can claim you're getting something of value when you loot them from a black lion chest. They don't expect people to buy 'em.
The Black Lion Industry Contract / Hunters Contract / Expedition Contract(s) Should be higher than D-Tier. Because you CAN NOT leech them in other instances. And you DONT HAVE to active go to the home instance for them, you get this daily per post passive.
You get make-over kits from playing the game. I think they come from achievement points. If I recall correctly, they come from every 5 - 10K achievement points. I have 2 in my bank that I haven't paid for.
Do you have a video for equipment stats explanation? Im just new to the game and dont understand a thing with the toughness etc. I also dont understand how to make minions stronger. Maybe you could help me out.
FYI, total makeover and hair kits have access to limited styles that aren't available from character creation. So, yeah. Buy them if you like em, and you definitely can't always just "create your character right"
The permanent bank access synergises extremely well with shared inventory slots and extra bank slots. If you think spending 10000 Gold coin and 25000 Globs of Ectoplasm is worth the price for that ecto vendor, 5000 gold coins should be nothing to you.
Now with legendries its even more reason to never buy Transmutation charges, as changing the style of legendary gear is free and doesn't cost any :) Oh the dye kits I consider more of a gamble, the recent abyss colours, I got 2 black reds and made back more gold and gems then it cost to buy the dye packs, lol. Something else on shared inventory slots, you can put un-identified gear in there and they won't be salvaged so you can better inventory manage, so they are even useful even if you only have one character :) Legendries can also upgrade extract for free, so surprising to not see that reduce the permeant one down a bit, you play for a good year you'll end up with a full set of legendries easily enough.
This trick for unidentified gear actually works with an invisible bag too, which you should have one of anyway, so then you'll have more free slots for something else like fractal potions.
@@IxaxaarCZ Yes but then you need to salvage your unidentified gear every time you change character, or you'll have a lot of this trash on every character. If you put them on shared inventory you just don't worry about it, you can play with different characters they all go in shared inventory slots, and from time to time when you're about to reach 250 you just salvage them all. But I agree that's something you do only when you have many or all shared inventory slots because that's not the priority.
Putting Build and Equipment Templates in the B tier when they should be in the "Do not buy this" tier OOF. Everything from the template implementation stinks and should not be rewarded with your hard earned money (or gold). Especially since it's obvious Arenanet has no intention of going back to the drawing board for it at this point. Like from the October 26 update: "Fixed a bug in which swapping between Build Templates that used the same pet in different pet slots would not work as expected." Like come on, it took them 2 YEARS to fix a serious bug. It shows you how much they care.
Crafting license and material storage are easy s tier, not having to worry as often about storing ecto, mithril, silk makes it s tier qol just to save inventory space without going to a bank, it’s ridiculously easy to over fill material storage on a meta train with doing inventory management
For those that don't know, if you simply click on the pvp icon (two crossed swords located top left corner) and enter to easily access your bank and vendors and then you can leave and return right back where you originally were.
That is a good tip, I use this sometimes even though I have a Royal Terrace Pass.
No thx, I use obsidian sanctum
@@YuuLinguine5836 Sometimes I use it too, but it doesn't return you to your previous place, or does it?

Thank you!
Hate to be that guy, but this is not the same as his list during the "conclusion" :)
The Makeover kits I think are necessary for Asura players as they open up a lot more options to make them look so much better.
Teapot: Character slots have bigger value
Also teapot: Craft license is good
I would assume it is because if you had all your similar crafting or all your crafting on a single character, you are going to have a much more streamlined crafting experience. Characters are probably super good for dealing with when your get Diminishing Returns.
Craft license for the ultra premium quality of life - spending as little time thinking about crafting as possible, no matter the cost.
I don't know how to I would craft Legendary Weapons if I had to switch among potentially 4 characters.
@@TiroDvD Well... by switching between 4 different characters? Not rocket science. Takes maybe 2 minutes more to craft the weapon.
@@enferreine This is the right answer, I really dislike crafting - anything that makes it less painful is very valuable to me
Storage expander one of my best purchases. We are not talking buying the maximum, but buying just 1 make such a huge difference.
Yeah... it's fucking nuts.
I'm not selling mats that I will need in some months to craft legendaries.
if you go lege crafting, material expander SAVES you a shitton of gold.
But you can do it farming keys and its not really necessary. One day you will get many statues to do that.
Teapot: "I don't wanna log in to another char to craft"
also teapot: has 40+ alt accounts
The makeover kits are actually worth it once per character because they offer a lot more cosmetic options when compared with the actual character creation. Just saying
Exactly, hairstyle/ total make over.... Which I'm surprised he didn't know
Probably doesn't care about looks
I agree ❤
I've spent way to much money on these....🙄😭
@@lafunk1978 i feel ya... 😢
It took me 9 years to complete the map and he is telling me to create a new character if I don't like the Name. XD
Nobody:
Teapot: You don't need to buy hair kits or make over kits, just get your character right first time or remake your character.
I have a feeling he doesn't know there is exclusive stuff in them kits.
(Also I totally agree, just remake your character if you did something wrong in character creation and only buy these if you want the exclusive stuff.)
Also, if you're watching this on the day of publish, Drizzlewood Coast will be free for a week very soon.
For example:
End of Dragons Preparation Pack (3000 gems)
- Character slot (800)
- 2 Bag slots (400 each, 800 total)
- 2 Build Templates (300 each, 600 total)
- 2 Equipment Templates (500 each , 1000 total)
+ the lvl 80 Boost + 10 keys (considered a free extra, see the tier list for why!)
So contents value = 3200 + freebies
However, what about when they are on sale?
- Character slot (560) -- (it goes between 20% and 40% off, I chose 30%)
- 2 Bag slots (280 each, 560 total) -- (they go between 20% and 50% off, I chose 30%)
- 2 Build Templates (210 each, 420 total) -- (they go between 25% and 40% off, I chose 30%)
- 2 Equipment Templates (375 each, 750 total) -- (they go between 20% and 30% off, I chose 25%)
Core content value when on sale = 2290
When comparing the bundle value with the core-content-on-sale value, it means the 10 keys + booster you get actually cost you ~900 gems.
Good call, use brain tier intensifies haha!
you are right but you missed 1 thing and thats the unbreakable gathering tool, which is also good value
As a new player, nothing has helped me more than the reusable TP to friend. Skipping puzzles and getting to a group leader when you dont have everything unlocked is a life saver.
skipping puzzles is such a waste, you paid for the content by buying the game and then you paid for an item to skip that content
@@asatsuki9250 They are a frustrating chore to me and I dont enjoy them. Lets not pretend you never skipped something to save time.
@@thoronirgros188 alright thats fair. i sometimes skip the dialog of NPCs just to get to the end of the quest
@Unserioes oo you just reminded me to get that unlimited tiny potion
@@asatsuki9250 yeah have fun doing LW3 jumping puzzles
You make a lot of great points and I generally feel the same.
fully agree, but ffxiv is actually guilty of this too - just much later. you WILL eventually run out of inventory space even with how much inventory you get for free because gear treadmill means endlessly expanding list of crafting materials and relic items and etc. and then you realize that the only way to get more storage is to pay for more retainers (bank npcs), which are $2 a MONTH per retainer. but yes, it's much less obnoxious about selling you more inventory, and the "problem"of inventory management is less severe
Really???
@@tomgreen8246 There's no fixing armor in gw2 anymore tho (thank god) it doesn't break. Its luckily been removed
Need a video on what to do with the piles of crap in material storage. What can I sell right away, what’s worth holding ? What can be easily crafted for high profit? Thanks for the great videos!
Bloodstone dust is something I had alot of, you can refine it into bloodstone bricks with obsidian.
"IT'S 5,000 GOLD" - conversion for anyone who thinks that's fair/reasonable still: it's over 300 US Dollars worth of gems to buy that banker contract.
Have 1000 mats unlocked, felt more comfortable in lw3 due to grabbing it on discount. 500 slots is a must, hands down
I think up to 750 is SSS tier. There are some mats you need 100 of each mats for daily time-gated crafts. You can buy weeks worth with 750 storage. It seems like the sweet spot. After 750, it starts to fall off.
100% on board for the mistlock sanctuary key. It's probably my most-used item, after the copper-fed salvage-o-matic.
I just want to say thank you for doing this kind of content. A fockin hour long dude. With timestamps. yopu are a blessing for the GW2 community!
True i bought this game back in 2012 release but couldnt play cuz of an ass pc until now😂
Yep i have a lot of that items
00:04:08 Makeover kits have exclusive faced/hair/colors. So if you really get tired of the "base" looks, you "need" these.
Great list, but hard to look back at unless you know every icon. Maybe a unchangeable file would help to have people use. Thanks
And then theres me, only lurking for griffon skins in gemstore xD
But to be serious, great tier list!
(I do agree with "you should've done it right the first time" ... but I've more than once had characters who I had made when this game first came out who I've wanted to rename 5-7 years later, at that point I've gotten enough playtime out of them that I don't feel bad paying Anet a bit extra to support the game I've enjoyed so much)
For relatively-new characters though, absolutely, bank/sell everything they own and reroll.
As a new player that only know the Mad King's Labyrinth lol, you've saved my GW2 life
Oh my gosh! I don't think Teapot knows how much he has affected our lives with this video here. 👀💯👍
Here are the items I believe to by biggest QoL and would buy basically buy with this priority based on value provided (try to buy only during sales):
- expansions (you get content, character slots, and shared inventory slots)
- LW3 + LW4 + LW5 (see if you can pick up the expansions + LW bundle during sales it's massive value for money); content, gold farms, mounts, and ascended gear farm
- candy corn gobbler (soon as you can since it only comes during Halloween event)
- 2 material storage expansions
- 1-2 bank expansions (depending on your play style and what you're doing)
- Snowflake gobbler (soon as you can since it only comes during Winter event)
- Salvage kits
- Then alternate between character slots and inventory slots until you have ~12 characters and ~10 shared inventory spaces); I keep one character slot open at all times to farm weekly black lion keys
One of the biggest QoL we need is account wide gathering tools.
Just logged in to buy the candy corn gobbler /never understood what it did before that video/ and it's already gone from the store :(
Easy way to get Transmutation Charges is to make a new Sylvari character, ranger is easiest.
You just can't take out the gold or items until you're visiting a TP vendor.
the only issue i have with gem store is the fact that they're selling you solutions to problems they have implemented on purpose, kind of gross really
I got a package deal on the EOD gathering contract when the expansion happened, and honestly, the jade and fish have been pretty nice.
“You’ll basically never run out of mystic forge stones”
Faction provisioner tokens: “allow us to introduce ourselves.”
I would strongly recommend you do not use mystic forge stones for those, it's much better to get em from stuff like charged quartz, rare crafting or weekly raid challenge motes!
@@MightyTeapot if you have a silver-fed salvage-o-matic what else are you going to use mystic forge stones on?
Infinite tools should have always been account bound, but these days you can't even change that over how many people just got several sets for their main characters.
Heart of Thorns Deluxe maybe should move to C-tier, actually. Most of it is Fashion Wars stuff, but it does contain a character slot. With that item, being in the same tier as vanilla Deluxe doesn't sound right.
I'd also add End of Dragons Deluxe (yes, the Deluxe content of EoD released before the actual EoD expansion) to C-tier too. Same deal, one character slot and the rest is for fashion.
Doesn't Heart of Thorns unlock Legendary Collections?
@@JoshSweetvale I was referring to the separate 2000-gem Deluxe package on the Gem store, not the standard edition of the expansion.
I got Jeweling on my Huntsman/Leatherworker Scrapper because I got tired of having to swap to my Elementalist who's never set foot in Cantha yet to make Dragon Jade to upgrade my Jadebot.
the lounge in Ember Bay has saved me so much time. Now I use Armistice exclusively. It just covers all my wvw needs. Good thing to have.
- Transmutation charges:
Instead of wasting gold/gems on gemstore transmutation charges, try going for legendaries instead - in the long run, you'll end up ahead ( legendaries don't require charges to transmute) and of course a huge QOL inherent to any leggy piece of gear (pro-tip: don't make your first legendary weapon an underwater one :D)
- Another reason for why character slots are S-tier:
if you're serious (though not necessarily hardcore) about fractals and plan on doing them a lot (over long period of time), you can get Fractal God title (there are 4 tiers of this mechanic, each one grants a title with 4th one being God/Goddess). This makes it (among other benedifts) so that you constantly regen some health per second PER CHARACTER ON YOUR ACCOUNT.
- Build Storage:
if you need that many builds, you are most likely serious enough about w/e you're doing you'd be better off using ArcDPS for that.
@@neocodexx the same reason I play every other game. The gameplay. Not every game has to be a dopamine drip to satisfy your neverending addiction.
The main plus side for outfits is looking decent as you level up alts through game play.
This video is a mandatory watch for anyone starting gw2.
Are Candy Corn/Snowflake Gobblers still available? I looked on Wiki and it appears they were not offered during the '22 festivals.
They are only available during the Halloween and Winter event respectably.
What is the axe item? I've never seen it before?
@@danieljohnson8539
Agree, mistlock is the best. Lily is only good as a tp for pinata.
@@danieljohnson8539 Pvp hall is better because is free
I should have bought the candy corn gobbler when I had the chance:(( thought about it a lot and now I reslly regret not buying it!
Runecrafter > Copper/Silver-fed since it has no ingame equivalent.
Also Gardenplot Deed is necessary to grow cultivated seeds.
What is the efficiency for the salvage kits if you wanted to get all of them? Is it Copper for blue, Runecrafter for green, and Silver for rare?
Copper for blue and green.
Rune OR Silver for gold (they are almost the same, it's useless to buy both).
@@Bariel76 Neat! Didn't know that, thanks! :) I know of other travel toys, but never saw the axe before, cool!
I think if you ever revisit this, make a tier specifically for “diminishing returns” like the material storage expansion
Stuff like bank tabs and material expanders should be tiered by range... ie: first 4 -> A tier, next 4 -> B tier, more than 8 -> C tier
the candy corn gobbler is annoying af to use. you have to eat a stack of candys in 20 mins for a 1h exp boost like nah fam its " buy it if you like it" at max
Also did a test yesterday, used 1500 corns in around 80mins and got a 18hours boost only.
What is that axe item? I have never seen it before and can't seem to find it. How is an axe fun?
13:00 Buying gold being S tier is interesting. Especially considering that I personally in my gameplay feel like the ultimate endgame goldsinks are legendaries and getting gemstore items. So trading gems-> gold feels like ridiculous waste of gems, but maybe makes sense if you are new and progressing through the game.
Can you please confirm, how much ecto gambling do you have to do, to get this mobile "merchant"? I've been looking into it and I found different opinions.
You need 10k gold for this. I was really lucky and got 4k gold back.
Inventory slots.
Inventory slots.
Inventory slots.
I keep buying these.
It pains me so much that they aren't account wide.
The Mistlock Sanctuary Passkey is the best! Equipment build slots is epic, templates can be copied from saved web sites, so almost no valve.
Hi, ty for this list. I didn’t even know there was a teleport item for convenience and that… that’s life changing for casuals like me. 🎉
Candy Corn Gobbler was not available last Halloween. I really hope it will get back this year.
Exe Axe "Just use mounts":
Can't use mounts in dungeons or fractals
Whats the best stuff to buy with volatile magic?
shipments.
Home instance TP has another quirk that is worth mentionning. Unless they changed it (I haven't done my weekly blakc lion key in years), it allows SKIPPING TUTORIAL.
- Create a new character
- Use the TP Immediatly (from a shared inventory spot)
- Exit the home instance via the alternative exit, and you are in your home town.
Yep.
You get make-over kits from playing the game. I think they come from achievement points. If I recall correctly, they come from every 5 - 10K achievement points. I have 2 in my bank that I haven't paid for.
I'm cheaper than a lvl80 Boost xD
Can level a lowby to 80 in 2-2,5hours (Depends how fast the lowlevel is with multitagging)
If you think spending 10000 Gold coin and 25000 Globs of Ectoplasm is worth the price for that ecto vendor, 5000 gold coins should be nothing to you.
what is the axe?
@@IxaxaarCZ
Yes but then you need to salvage your unidentified gear every time you change character, or you'll have a lot of this trash on every character.
