For me this expansion has been a blast. I am fairly new (200hrs) and this expac has opened a lot of doors for me from easier ascended gearing, more access to quick gold, new skyscale track, and the list goes on. I have gotten my friend into the game as well and he is also having a blast and I think I can point most of the credit to the wizards vault! I can definitely see how this expac could be disappointing for people who are much more experienced than I am, I can see that there is a huge lack of new content for players that have been playing for years. So I am conflicted yes the expac is good for new players and I’m happy about that. HOWEVER the veterans in this game are the kindest and most helpful community of players I have come across. There is always someone willing to help and explain how something works and they deserve to be rewarded for their dedication and love for the game! GIVE THEM CONTENT!

Same here started 2 days before release of new expansion and still playing trough al the living world and older expansions but the vault helped me get gold and first ascended gear so the grind feels easier. Followed a metabuild and also the relics are big power increase. The power creep does make some group fight look easy. Not that I do so much but see other players destroy bosses wich makes it easy to tag along 😂

I agree somewhat. As a player I use it to check if I'm doing well, especially as a support to see if my boons are being properly upkept. As a commander the boon table is a nice tool to see if boons are being properly distributed, I then try and gently let the supports know. I never use it to judge other peoples DPS.

1:08:44 It is interesting to note that Teapot and Nike claim that the incompetent player (not good enough dps) is the toxic one and people should be able to kick them. However, Lara admits she was once that incompetent player and such avoided raiding to prevent that very scenario from happening.
I dont know if they realized it but they just became the example why many players (like old lara) dont want to engage with the raiding scene

@MightyTeapot it is as it is. It's unfortunate that endgame PVE isn't as invested as other mmos, but gw2's style does enable it to have things others don't. Despite their raid popularity, the grievance gw2 raiders have about their content (uncaring casuals, lack of content, unbalanced messes) are the same as those in WoW and ff14
On a brighter note, the fact that raiders from WoW and f14 are coming and even admiring some of the creativity some these raids and strike cms show that gw2's combat can has something to offer in a PVE setting. They just need a better way to address the gaps in skill between the normal and the challenging

    • @bobiboulon
      @bobiboulon Год назад +5

The fact that we can control the 3 base skills of them should be pretty cool, but the problem is that the pet is pretty slow to respond. A. • @CoffeeTheFreshmaker

DPS meters and gear checks were never toxic in WOW because everyone had them. Years ago when I played WOW a friend gear checked me and helped fix my gear issues. But Nike’s statement is right. The person who made ARCDPS doesn’t even play GW2 anymore. It is not fair for ANET to make the instanced content community rely on someone who doesn’t play the game anymore. ANET needs to take responsibility for that and make their own DPS meter, even it is not feature laden like ARCDPS.

We need more relics that push player to make something. For example like effects in Division 2, some rare sets of items have such effect like... For example, imagine relic like this: "Every killed mob drops some bonus which gives you +0.2% damage for 3 mins (stacks up to 30 which is 6% total (and you should pick up every those bonus)), and also this relic gives you +5% for 10 sec on pick up" (this part of effect doesnt stack but just renewed). So it's a good relic for some strike missions or pve roaming.
-Or you can change second part of description to: Also this relic HEALS you for +5 of max HP on pick up.

    • @OleksandrProkhorovskyi

or imagine relic which makes special backlight targetign in your UI on random enemy every 10 seconds, and effect lives for 5 seconds befor it will jumps to another random enemy (range 1500). If you manage to land a critical hit in these 5 seconds - this enemy considered to be cursed and take 10% more damage for 20 sec, and you get 5% life steal on it (just on this enemy).

Wow i am actually agreeing with NIKE in something Oo. Give us personal dps meters. A meter that i can use and that is for my eyes only. This way i will be aware of the dps from the day i join the game and can see if it improves or not. I mean if there is a box where you can tick it off and cant see it, sure, fine, what ever, no all people are interested in doing content where dps is really needed, fine. But give us a dps/hps meter that i can see. Put it on screen or in chat, again i dont care, but i want to know my dps. I do not use arc dps because i can not be arsed with the annoyance when a patch happen. I just can not. I hammer on the golem to check my dps when new builds comes out, but i refuse arc dps. Not their fault obviously, since it is outside of the game, but so many people using it so just give us one in game!
I dont need anything fancy. I dont need other people dps, i dont really give a shit about others dps, it is their problem to solve not mine. But give a personal one to all players in the game.

You touched on it for like 30 seconds then swiftly moved on, but while the DPS across the board is incredibly balanced with this patch - the ability for each build to "provide value" or "do something" swing wildly between builds. E.g., qCata or qZerker doing approximately the same DPS as qHerald or qFb - when the value these builds provide to the team is not even in the same universe.
I feel like this is a point worth focusing on much more so than any DPS discussion because VALUE is what makes a build truly strong in GW2 short of some utterly insane DPS disparity. It's even one of the bullet points on the "Balance Philosophy" stream if anyone still remembers that - Power Budget. If these builds are doing the same DPS, then where is all that power budget being assigned to?
There are certain aspects of builds that make this disparity in value very hard to balance too and is worth a public discourse about. E.g., any Revenant build always having some kind of value/utility because their Utility skills are forced into a specific set (meaning they always at least have a stunbreak for example) yet are balanced DPS wise with builds that take all DPS Utility skills. It's a similar situation with the age old issue of Fb always having access to all their tomes and the value skills within to have a tool for any situation.

I wonder if Teapot and Nike have seen Folding Ideas' video "Why It's Rude to Suck at Warcraft". In short, it's about addons (including dps meters) making WoW playerbase pay more attention to group PvE combat performance which led to suboptimal builds use being considered "rude". I'm not sure ArenaNet wants such a future for GW2 and I agree and I guess most of the playerbase would in this case agree with ArenaNet. That's why no official dps meter in GW2.
P.S. I think a good compromise would be an official dps meter which allows to see your own stats but not anyone else's. So if you really want someone else's opinion on your performance you just make screencast / screen recording and ask for their opinion.

Untamed should just turn into a localized boon machine. Award the ranger for positioning the pet and themselves separately with an extremely potent boon supply that becomes less potent the more the two interact with the same party memebers/enemy. Allow the maximum potential to be realized through positioning choices and utilizing the pets autonomy. Create a scenario where the ranger can give the pet a respectable amount of importance to the other players. Make seeing an untamed pet something to be next to and fight alongside. Allow the nature of power swapping to be an important choice, rather than just another offensive cd in the rotation.

I've been really enjoying the game, and I'm very excited about the direction Anet is moving. I think they've been doing a pretty good job so far. If there's one thing I would criticize though is the amount of game breaking bugs and how long it took to fix them. That was a bit concerning.
As for ARCDPS, the entire hardcore and semi-hardcore community was left hanging without it for almost a week because the poor guy who built it was on vacation. You really shouldn't such an integral part of the game on the hands of a single person, what if something happens to him? What if he rightfully gets sick of spending time on it? What do we do then?
I understand why Anet is not comfortable having a dps meter native to their game but there must be a solution, maybe have it open source or have more devs working on it, with the creator's permission of course. Or have Anet do a simpler version of it with opt-in and opt-out options, which would make it more consensual than ARCDPS. I dunno. But something needs to be done.

A-Net will never add a DPS meter or an inspect feature because this game has too many players who don’t put time and effort into their performance and instead of acknowledging that, they play the privacy card. They blame it on toxic behavior when the reality is they just suck and don’t want to take responsibility for it. They also fail to acknowledge that their poor performance negatively effects those around them in their group.
Coming to this game from world of Warcraft, I’m kind of shocked at the community’s overall viewpoint on basic things like dps meters and inspect character.

what I don't like about the patch now is the lack of variety right now.. perhaps if they introduce a lot more relics that will change... I don't understand why untamed not being played means it has no identity, this point makes no sense, the identity is related to how it feels and plays, not who plays it, plus it's actually in a pretty good spot right now; 34k pquick, 37k cquick, 41k dps. After playing plenty of pquick, I've grown a lot on it again and it feels great to get those ambushes. It is fun, and very strong. (And yes I did play during Fervent Force days, it was by far the most enjoyable build for me in the entire game, but also very clearly 100% unintended and not the theme they wanted to push, at some point everyone has to move on from FF.)
What it lacks is the sheer insanity of boon access as some other classes, and that's fine considering it has other utilities such as boonstrip/projectile destruction.
Much like Lara holding a strong adoration for catalyst (as do I), why not just play it instead of discussing how bad classes are that you've never touched? No one played untamed before because it had such a high skill floor, and now it's more in the middle, more reachable, and I think people are pretending to be concerned about it anymore even though they never cared for it in the first place.

With regards to introducing in game meters I'm still baffled so please someone answer me this- apart from certain CMs where is there a ABSOLUTE NEED for high DPS in GW2? Talking purely DPS here, ignoring boon uptime, and with that need how much can be mitigated in PUGS by just checking someone's mastery level and assuming they're going to be alright anyway? If you've got two terrible DPS'ers say, how many fights would the group actually struggle with?
Time and time again the issue of meters is brought up and to be frank if an exclusionary feature was to be introduced into the game you'd have to have a damn good reason for it. Good reasons IMO include shitty boon uptime, speedruns and players not being open about playing certain builds due to, say, LI requirement but DO NOT INCLUDE the fact that you just want to finish 10 minutes earlier. If your time was that precious you wouldnt be hanging around the Hubs at all in game and you'd have a list of 'players that can pump' ready to go.
Where's the data on the amount of pug groups just flat out failing fights due to DPS? What kinds of game modes are most affected and what is the percentage of GW2 players that participate in those modes? Would an in game meter actively turn people off of trying those modes?

I think most of that discussion explains why gw cant grow. While there is a group that enjoy the fast intensity gameplay, I think there is a bigger group of people who enjoy more slower tactical and clear readable gameplay. And to me GW2 is with time shifting more and more to the go fast. I mean if you show some random who never played wow classic for example and gw2 group combat. That random will get the idea what is going on in wow classic, what each person of the group is doing, what the enemy is doing etc. if you show gw2 group combat, all they would see is visual diarrhea. No matter how complex and interesting the gameplay under can be, or easy. This is how I see It.

I don't think these guys understand how WvW mains play the game. There is ZERO reason to win a matchup, you get nothing. The game system rewards you (pips) for winning the skirmish (2 hour intervals) and winning fights (WXP). So the focus for generally organized WvW guilds is to play with the people you want to play (inside and outside of your guild) and win fights within a certain time frame.
Therefore WR has very little to no actual impact on that, whereas Alliances would've been the feature that gave them input to achieve this. What Lara says about joining an "Alliance Guild" is technically true, and believe me many have done that, but take a good look at how they do it. They make "mega guilds" with factions in their own timezone, who they want to play adjacent to, because the mentality is: Within the 2-3 hours a night that we raid, we want to win. Whatever happens outside my timezone, I don't care. Because there's no reason to care. Why would I sacrifice my guild's experience every night to "win the matchup" when it's literally pointless to do so.
This whole "prepping" for Alliances by making megaguilds created another slew of problems in terms of fight balance (both in group size and skill). In primetime its impossible for these groups to hop maps to find a favorable matchup, it's impossible for them to find another fight if they farmed their content into logging off, and it generally promotes stalemate/evasion tactics rather than fun gameplay.
The participants in this Teatime are so "big picture", same as the Developers; they can't see the litany of problems and bad experiences WvW players have day in and day out because of lack of consistent experience in the game-mode. Add to that getting lied to by omission for 5 years and now delaying (yet again) a promised feature (that granted is not a solution)... yeah people are pissed. And with good reason, regardless of how it's presented.

Gameplay wise, there is no competitive spirit and anet's baseline philosophy of not giving exclusive rewards removes all possible pog factor from the gamemode.
I used to play a browser based game as a kid in which clans/guilds used to fight and attack each other for top10 spots until the end of season(1month). Top 10 guilds at the end of season got rewards skills, exclusive skins, and non exclusive but still powerful in-game items too. Also, top 1 had a slightly upgraded version of skin than top top3. Similarly top3, had the slightly upgraded ver of skin compared to top10.
This created an environment where all guilds wanted to race to the top and bottom ones formed alliances to bring the top ones down etc etc. Also the game went insane during the end of month because it was like a pog event where everyone is going full blast before the bell rings for the end of season.
But considering anet they wont give people exclusive rewards for competing. And until then, no one would care about matchups. 'A casual should also have access to same rewards as a seasoned veteran pog 20times tournament winner in a separate, easier but more grindier way'.
To me this philosophy is trash and shackles the gamemode.
The only thing they need to create is 1skin per season. And from what i see skins are the only content they can deliver consistently.
Just an example of how to make people excited to play and win.
Edit: Also my personal grievance is that the maps look visually outdated by their own current standard. So many years have passed, its about time to revamp the maps to newer textures, lighting etc. UI also shows info in a weird way and not easily understandable in the first look.

@@NikeonaBike This is what I mean by being too focused on the big picture. What it's "supposed to be" doesn't matter, what matters is how players are using it. And they're using it that way cause there's no incentive to use it "as intended". I explained why already, the rewards are not for the matchup (weekly score), they're for each skirmish tick (5 mins).
There's no point in making a 24/7 coverage alliance when winning the matchup gives you nothing. If you concentrate your alliance in a specific time window, your alliance rolls the enemy by sheer numbers and gets rewarded for placing 1st every 5 minutes of gameplay. Winning the matchup is entirely inconsequential to the gameplay OR the rewards.

But now, with relics... I'm missing this perma regen, which is a huge nerf. But I don't know exactly what other roaming builds where also heavily relying on this rune. But it for sure was a huge nerf to my build, and also to my solo all builds in pve, like dual staff mesmer, any condi or celestial necro build. But I don't care about this... I care about balance in wvw; That is where it really matters. And I would love Anet to get into detail about their reasoning why they think stuff is balanced now... Then we can also give them more to the point feedback. Dumb people will always rage, whether you give them insight or not.. So that wouldn't change.. but the decent people that are invested in the game and can be more objective can definitely help Anet out in giving them more to the point feedback and perhaps pointing out any flaws in Anets balancing. Basically if Anet keeps it all a secret makes me feel they don't really have a good idea about what they are doing because it's simply too complex... Anet could do a lot more to balance the game and promote a wider variety of weapons use, by simply adjusting the weapon attack numbers to be within a smaller range. Weapons that provide more utility should have slightly less DPS than weapons that have zero utility. Auto attacks for all weapons should be pretty close to each other. It’s hard to understand why Anet hasn’t done a better job at balancing weapons to encourage more variety of builds.

And another explanation is they simply leave some loose ends here and there and don't have that much insight into all or most of the outcomes of their changes ... This is a learned game, over a decade old now. Should we really be getting balance patches talking about "overperformers" without any clear concept of what numbers Anet actually wants to see for their content? What is acceptable to them? Where do they draw the line? The balance manifesto post feels like a lifetime ago, and I question how much of it is actually being followed.
Communicate with your players. Show metrics like DPS better in game. Communicate what levels of damage are acceptable and what aren't. Acknowledge where content has fallen behind on handling those levels (and maybe stop releasing HP sponges that aren't fun for new and veteran players alike). Nobody wins in this vague dance that Anet insists on performing.
