My stomach STILL hurts from the fact that the doctor chose the wrong Donna. That was honestly the most horrific part of the episode for me. And props to Catherine Tate for making it so unbearably poignant. The transition from horror to grief to acknowledgement that happens with her in the seconds after he leaves her and the bomb goes off is devastating.

There was more planned, but Bernard Cribbins was too ill and passed away shortly after this was filmed.

Donna CHOSE to carry the blood of tens of thousands of people on her hands when the Doctor had to destroy Pompeii, just so that he wouldn't have to carry the weight of that alone. She didn't have to press the button with him, but she knew her friend needed her in that moment and didn't hesitate. For me that moment has always cemented Donna as the best companion the Doctor could ever have.

The body horror mixed with moments of not knowing who is who or which is the original just before the reveal of more horror and distortion is a perfect allegory for the conflict between AI generated things and what’s created by active and creative minds. I've honestly always disagreed with this assessment. Series 10 was a little weak until the end, but Series 8 had some absolutely fantastic episodes like Listen, Mummy on the Orient Express, Flatline, Dark Water, and Death in Heaven, and then Series 9 is literally all bangers except the Under the Lake/Before the Flood two-parter, and that one wasn't even bad, it was just okay. And hell, as much as I think Series 10 is weak overall, the finale is incredible. Capaldi was incredible during his tenure _and_ he had some great material to work with.

I think there’s going to be a part of him that will always be bothered by the fact that he chose the wrong Donna. Maybe that’s what he was explaining that the copy was 99.9% accurate, as a way of mitigating that he wasn’t as sure as he thought he was. Loved this one. A very classic back-to-basics adventure that focused on the two leads, I couldn't ask for more. This did more for the Timeless Child and Flux storylines, and their actual effect on the Doctor, than the episodes themselves. I'm certain the Mavity joke is going to carry on. And I was BLOWN AWAY that Bernard Cribbins' Wilf was here, I had no idea they filmed this so early. I'm glad he made one last appearance.

Smith is my doctor but I think Donna is the best companion. Although, still feel like Amy and Rory had the better overall story. And I agree with Adam that Martha doesn't get enough love. Specially because I think that she wasn't done justice. She was a doctor, she was smart, there is a lot of potential there imo. How she reflects on the Doctor could be an interesting introspection of the character, seeing as a lot of times they hold up the Doctor's intelligence and burden of knowledge as a reason he struggles with losing perspective on "the little people". Against Martha's medical doctorate requiring both that intelligence and compassion combo. Not to mention w/e stories you could write with a companion that is a bit more capable (in terms of figuring things out or not being as lost scientifically).

I disagree. What is more terrifying than a goofy looking deadly threat? Because taking it too lightly makes it more dangerous.
The "goofiness" actually works to make the monsters more unusual. And unusual is VERY much a part of this wonderful franchise!

I don't know if you can watch it in America but in the UK, right after the episode, you can watch Doctor who unleashed which goes behind the scenes of the episode. It showed the practical arm effects as well as the sets and Bernard Cribbins

Thanks for the martha defense , she has one of the best ending for a companion because she chooses to leave and she is still a baddass with unit , claras great too , theres alot of charachtwrs he could call bff but donna was the one he never thought about romantically

The tardis does indeed have a bit on the side outvthere, she's called River Song and she likes to borrow the tardis whenever she feels like.

The irony that in the behind the scenes they did actually have a green screen treadmill lol

if we are talking the GOAT of companions then the answer is, was, and always will be, Sarah Jane.

So i don't know why they brought in the whole "mavity" thing, but i kinda wish that played more into this episode

It was just there to be a running gag, chances are it’ll be significant more in Ncuti’s season.

For me it’s always going to be the tenth Doctor and Donna. Their chemistry is off the charts. I’m also loving fourteen so much! I’m going to be so bummed all over again when his run is over.

The Flux episodes started out really interesting, with Sontarans coming back and Dog Man (as my kids called him). But by the end it got really complicated.

I really wanted to see your guys reaction to the doctor talking about why he keeps running or his emotional outburst. Instead we talked about enders game. 😕

I’d recommend reading the Wiki of The Flux episodes, Adam. There is some background information about The Doctor’s past that they mentioned in this ep & I’m sure will continue to come up.
Speaking of, I wonder if the gravity/mavity stuff will come up again later

The captain is a Garm aka Tiger Person. RTD teased their return on IG before the series aired. They were in a 5th Doctor episode "Terminus".
For this specific episode he posted they were finally returning. Legendary troll of detail.

I think the thumbnail is wrong, it seems to say gravity when it should be mavity.

It just hurts, it just really hurts that this is the only seen that we will see with Wilfred moff. He had managed to film this one scene before he died and they reworked it to where it was in the end of this episode and then I think you may hear his voice now and then but this is the end of that Titanic actor and it just makes me so sad😢😢
