you have no idea how long I have waited to see Jay's reaction to the songs.
We know when the episode aired, and when trailers were shown, so that gives a maximum unless you worked on the show
And then they cut most of it out in the reaction lol
Maybe I’m in the minority, but I loved Capaldi. He was a darker doctor for darker stories. But they fit together. I think part of the issue with Jodie’s run is they tried to keep the darker stories but with a whimsical doctor and it just didn’t fit all the time. But to this day Capaldi’s scene with KLS, the zygons and the two boxes is one of the best, most moving scenes in all of Doctor Who.
A few times every year I go back and just rewatch the full speech. It’s so perfect. It’s what made Capaldi my Doctor.
I do think Capaldi was a fantastic Doctor, I just think he suffered the same problem as Jodie Whittaker in that the stories he got were not as strong. (Though, on the whole, they were still a lot better for Capaldi. I *wish* we could have gotten a season with Jodie and RTD 🥺)

Capaldi was amazing. Every other Doctor tends to look at humans like a parent with a spoiled child that can do no wrong in their eyes "Oh sure, they rape and murder, but I love them so much!!!".
Capaldi seems to look at humans like a babysitter who doesn't particularly like the kids in their care. "Yeah, I'll take care of them and try to keep them out of too much trouble. Maybe someday they'll grow up and stop being such horrible little shits"
I think most people love Capaldi as the Doctor, but also agree that he was sometimes screwed over by the writers. He had some really bad episodes but it was never his fault nor were there ever anything wrong with his performance

8:27 I had the same thought about Ruby being jenny’s ( the doctors daughter from season 4 ) daughter too but not just from the fact there is no dna match for her but a mixture of that and that the new series is supposed to be a reboot of the show in a way and the doctors original companion was his granddaughter

Ikr. I can see how you could wrap up some arcs for her in a single season (even one as short as this), but also how it could go longer because she has so much potential for the mysteries they chose to set up for her. I think 2 seasons would be the sweet spot maybe even 2 1/2. It makes me sad, cause I was so worried about not liking her, watched this and was already warming up/interested, and then hear she's already leaving. It sucks lmao.@@MetalPharoah
I had that thought too, as well as the 'she left herself there'. I'd love if it was Jenny, mostly due to having have wanted her to reappear ever since she FIRST appeared regardless of how odd it might be or what they might have to do to make it make sense lol.
I say this as a fully straight man of 33 years, if I ran into Ncuti Gatwa in a bar, and he flirted with me with this level of charm, there's a solid 85% chance I'd go home with him. This man oozes charm and charisma and fun.

As someone who is going to become a father this May, the scene where we saw the gulf in difference when Ruby's family had never fostered her... that hit me right where I live.
And totally agree, Ncuti is charismatic as heck, he's really watchable! I get flashes of Doctors 9, 10, and 11, plus some stuff unique to him, and all of that makes me feel really good about how well-defined his Doctor will be, and how he'll be able to carve his own identity.
I also love how the show "Yes ands" some of the controversial decisions from Jodie's run. Tying Ruby's backstory to the Doctor's more recent revelations about his adopted nature. I haven't watched the show since midway through Capaldi, but these specials got me excited enough to start from the 2005 series and watch through again, very excited to rewatch/catch what I missed before the new series in Spring :)

Allow me to be the first to Britsplain... Davina McCall is a longstanding TV presenter, not least of all as the host of Big Brother in the 00's back when everybody had some moral hang ups about reality shows being manipulative (how naive/prophetic we were). The lady at the end asking "what, you've never seen a tardis before?" is Anita Dobson who was a big deal on THE BBC soap opera Eastenders back in the 80s, and as an additional fun fact, is the wife of Queen guitarist Bryan May.

I heard someone say that Ruby is Russel T. Davies doing a Moffat-style companion (mysterious origins, a big puzzle to unwrap) and I feel like there are nods -- cracks in the walls, like Amy, hopping onto a ladder in the sky like Clara, etc.

Davina McCall is a major reality/game show presenter in the UK most famous as the host of Big Brother (she parodied herself in Dead Set created by Charlie Brooker, of Black Mirror, where the Zombie Apocalypse occurs during the filming of Big Brother) actually is currently doing a long lost families show on a competing channel in the UK.
And to add Davina is herself an Adopted child . She co hosts a British TV show called 'Long Lost Family' that tries to link adoptees with their birth parents. Hence the parody at the beginning of the episode.

Love the description of Doctor Who as science whimsy. Spot on. I love sci-fi, hell even some syfy, but trying to have science-y rules in a world where the TARDIS exists, is weird and going to frustrate you. Just let the sonic be the sonic and do whatever the plot says it needs to. :)
Jon Pertwee the 3rd Doctor did the most inventing. He was a gadget heavy doctor, but yes a few doctors have done their share of inventing. The sonic screwdriver is the Doctor's invention after all.

I love adams theory and i dont know what jenny is doing in the comics shes in but its perfect , buuut my theory is that ruby is roses daughter from "earth 2" with the human doctor , which is why she has blonde hair(jenny too) , and ruby and rose are a red flower and red gemstone , she also looks like clara but thats probably a coincidnce
Interesting fact . The kitchen units are quite old and aluminium and the range is called “English Rose”. (I. Think it’s too much of a coincidence that there is a great good condition 1950’s kitchen that goes by the name ‘Rose’ in the new episode 1 of Dr Who when we are being introduced to the new companion ‘Ruby’

Woo! So excited that this was posted today. The first time I discovered you guys was in 2020 while I was in isolation over Christmas due to rona. Over 3 years later, I've got the rona again & here you both are keeping me company & bringing the laughs again.
I've heard that this season is going to have themes of fantasy/fiction, which I've really looking forward to. Ncuti is amazing as the Doctor so far, and he & Millie have great Doctor-Companion chemistry. Spring can't be here soon enough.
It's not that surprising that Ncuti can sing. I mean he was one of the main Ken's in the Barbie movie and was part of the singers for I'm Just Ken.

Yes, if you are British, you know Davina McCall. She actually does do a show reuniting family and was made famous for doing the UK version of Big Brother, which is why she voiced Davinadroid in the bad wolf story in Doctor Who. No, we don't know Mrs Flood, she is a plot point for the new series.
The neighbor (who knows about the TARDIS) is a new character (or an old character in an unknown face). We’ll probably learn more throughout the season.

I know other folks have explained Davina already, but I don't *think* anyone has said yet - she's actually been in DW before, as the "Davina Droid" way back in Christopher Eccleston's season, when he was stuck in the Big Brother house!
I like the theory about Ruby being Jenny's daughter, though I kinda hope the resolution to that mystery isn't so directly tied to the Doctor - I feel like it'd fit in better with the new "letting go of his baggage" version of the Doctor for it not to be something like that. But it would be a nice full circle thing too.

Davina McCall is a presenter in England who was on their version of Big Brother and she also is one of the people on the UK version of Long Lost Family about adoptees who want to find their parent(s) or parents looking for their children they put up for adoption. She was also on the UK version of Who Do You Think You Are?

jaeh i literally stopped watching 1 or so seasons into her run and people think i just dont like her or that shes a woman but its just the writing was so bad :( she had no chance ... it lost the doctor who charm for me adn this episode explodes with it

The old lady is completely new, there's a few theories floating around online as to who she is/how she knows what a TARDIS is.

She knew what *a* TARDIS is, but she didn't recognise *the* TARDIS until she saw it dematerialise - and even after that, she asked the Doctor who he was. That's not consistent with any prior companion, or River, or the Master, or any of the theories I've heard.
Usually I think most predictions are silly but I like the prediction about the doctor's daughter. Also you have a good point about not wanting to go look at the mom because when he went back in time to watch Clara's childhood, Clara didn't like that at all and got mad at him.. so i think our doctor finally learned boundaries 😅😂💀

Who-tine is from Quebec. I like the second granddaughter of the Doctor theory. What’s interesting is that Mrs Flood didn’t recognise the TARDIS when it was a police box, and that her personality entirely changed by the end of the episode.
Theories on who Ms Flood really is. (1) Missy (2) Old Ruby (3) The Rani (Classic Who TImelady), (4) Ruby's mother & (5) Jenny (if Adam is right).
I'll add one. I think Mrs. Flood is River, and her first name is something like Carol. Melody Pond. River Song. Carol Flood. Fits so well I'll be sad if it doesn't turn out to be the case lol.

None of the articles about it mention a credible source beyond "insiders told us..." and I believe she has been seen on set for season 2, so I'm a little doubtful

I liked this episode I liked Ncuti and Millie's introduction as the 15th Doctor and Ruby but I have to say I liked the goblin song but I did not like seeing the Doctor and his companion singing also using the fantasy fact instead of a science fiction explanation I also am getting a little tired with companions and their personal family lives I just want to see The Doctor go to alien planets and fight monsters and Daleks or whatever.
Also my theory on Mrs. Flood is she's another Time Lord but someone we haven't met.
I generally prefer the more science-y stories and am not a big fan of the ones that are basically fantasy with a light smattering of vaguely scientific handwaving, but this was fun.

I would say poetically and just the way the show tends to be calling upon its history to invoke power and emotion especially here lately that is the only viable option to explain who Ruby is. She has to be the clone daughters daughter. The Doctor might even have a clue about it too. IDK about that part though.
