7:34 I think the premise was the fact that time was running out and letting the no-thing creature onboard with Donna would have been troublesome, such as they were already fighting during the chase towards the end anyway. 14th Doctor in my eyes just sorta went, "okay, I have a 50/50 chance and the bombs are about to go off- but just in case, I'll run a scan to check if it's the real Donna so I can kick this bugger off my ship and later repent my actions to Donna when she's rescued"

Like, it's a short detail but he whips around the screen to see the results of the scan just before he kicks the no-thing out

I honestly hated the Star Beast. It gives an indication of what Davies plans for the rest of his time: callbacks with little substance, mixed with nonsensical lore breaks. What does the sonic screwdriver making shields add to the story? They wrote themselves into that scenario, and then wrote themselves out with rubbish. Why this totally nonsensical callback to Donna being stuck on the word 'binary'? Just so many ridiculous choices.

Totally agree on the sonic part. I stopped watching after season 12 and just jumped into the 60th anniversary specials after skimming the wiki and I assumed it was an ability that was set up in the past season, learning it’s completely unexplained and out of nowhere really threw me off. I dont mind the screen for readings since he could always read Information from the sonic but the force fields that can block GUNSHOTS is pretty stupid imo

I agree with the sonic absolutely but I think they explained that this is meant to be the completed sonic screwdriver the most perfect version there is. But they cut a scene where tennant uses the sonic for the first time and is confused by it. My issue is there are scenes and moments in this first part of the new era which got scrapped which either added more to moments or were needed, like how in the devils chord ncuti tells Millie they’d spoken about the gods and the toy maker which was cut dialogue from church on ruby road.

@@eponymouselias It was very stupid. It's the example of him just randomly adding things without nay reason for doing so. I also mentioned the callback to Donna being stuck on 'binary' suddenly being integral because it's a callback to previous DW, but doesn't actually make sense when thinking about it? It's like how (finale spoilers) Sutekh is brought back, but the explanation of how he actually survived means you have to ignore the fact the TARDIS has been blown up like two dozen times after he supposedly jumped on (multiple of which happened DURING RTD's RUN), as well as the fact the TARDIS literally traveled to the end of time to shake off ONE DUDE, but couldn't figure out Sutekh was holding on.

Peter Capaldi is the best actor of modern Who. Tennant is overrated and overacts constantly. Russell T Davies should never have come back his writing is abysmal.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't realize it but there's two people credited on IMDB for The Meep and I'm only just now seeing where Miriam is listed as the actual voice lol

I gotta say I didn’t love NPH as the toy maker. The character was amazing but something about having such a recognisable face took me out of it completely. Even the spice up your life scene whilst amazing didn’t feel that surprising because it’s NPH, of course they found a way to sneak a dance number in. It was my least favourite of the three specials.

for me i dislike it more because of how the toymaker loses...NPH did a fine job but the way he loses to catch is terrible, the toymaker would want to win so bad he would happily jump off the building for the ball etc

Whether your a fan of the 60th specials or not "Power Of the Doctor" feels more like an anniversary episode because amazingly Chibnall ended his era on a high note with a solid plot and definite love letter to the series. The new RTD era on the other hand had to use the milestone for hype. The last era had shaken faith in Doctor Who so much that David Tennant's return was both a special event and would make him the bridge Doctor. Love or hate where the show is right now the 60th anniversary episodes didn't have much time to be a celebration of Doctor Who when they needed to be a plaform for the New era to build on long term.
I do really like you including Power of The Doctor. I agree and despite how I feel about his era overall I'm glad a writer that no one can deny does want the best for the series gets some credit where due. It just came way too late. Enjoyed this very much 👌 I liked the 60th specials very much. NPH as the Toymaker opposite David's Doctor was a real Doctor Who evenymt. Both such an elemental threat in his own right but also a gateway to fresher and more powerful villains. As much as the classic Who villains should always be around we need more that won't see the Tardis and want to run.
While I think the new RTD era is close to what they're aiming for I am really against an 8 episode series. Doctor Who is not a Not a Netflix series designed to be binged all at once. Empire of Death had potential but it falls flat in so many places largely because the plot should have gotten more time to do some things better. It could have felt like a proper cinematic event like Day of The Doctor instead the cinema return feels like a gimmick and only fully succeeds in cinematic level visuals. We need at least a 10 episodes a series.

Commenting for algorithm. Your channel should be bigger. Great video. 🙌🏻 P.S you made me watch a video about Dr Who when I don't even watch the show. Well done

I just can't believe they pulled a Disney and turned DT and the 60th for "the messenge". Disney has lost more than 1 billion on agenda stories rather than good writing. So the fact that DW has now turned that way (and yes this was toned down for season 1 - though the bubble episode messege was done well to some degree especially the end).
