The animation is crazy. Very fluid. Everything hand-drawn. I miss those days.

This is back before the economic bubble burst in japan i think. Budgets where crazy high back then.

Police procedural drama and Japanese politics. In at least one episode, the point is made that they're not American police so they shouldn't resort to firearms as the first instinct.

    このクオリティーは予算の高い低いの影響ではなく、完全に監督のセンスと制作サイドの熱意によるものです。

man I love the sequence of animation and editing at 0:38. the quick cut from the Type 0's hand to it attacking is so cool. and even cooler is that low angle shot of it into kneeling into frame as the Ingrams revolver gets deployed. they had the juice man

Alphonse was HER labor. Named after her first pet dog, she loved that robot like a sibling. And yet she sacrificed him to save her friend Shinobu.

True. That's pretty much understandable. I can feel the terror, because she couldn't defeated it w/ her alphonse, she need to sacrifice it but then now she's being targeted by that same monster.

This fight choreography was a perfect blend of realism and minimalism. A lesser director would have made this a 5+ minute flashy slug fest.

@@brash_hownThe second one I think requires "native" knowledge of Japanese history and politics to understands nuances. It feels very much like they never intended it to reach the export market.

@@ffnbbq I watched a video on it recently, and you're basically right. It's the most overtly political of the series, featuring the director's own political beliefs about Japan's role in the Cold War itself. It's not impossible to understand from an "outsider" perspective, but it's about something very specific to Japan's history.

They are wearing 旭日章( Rising Sun emblem), which symbolizes the Japanese police force and is different from the Imperial Family's 菊花紋章(chrysanthemum crest).
