    Very good, simple to follow, and informational. I bought 3 paint products (base paint, pearl paint and some medium reducer) to paint a small area on my wife's SUV. The paint vendor was very vague about what to mix and how much. You video made it all very easy to understand, and why the ratio are what they are. Thank you very much!

    would you use a reducer on a clear coat? is that even normal?

    • @Mechaniclyfe
      @Mechaniclyfe  2 года назад +1

      You can yes depends on the clear , it helps the clear thin out to be easier to spray and flow out easier usually you don’t want to reduce more than 10%

    • @Mechaniclyfe

    Great video best I’ve seen, but I’m a bit confused at the clear coat mixing stage you say a 4-1 ratio bit you mixed at 2-1 ? On the mixing cup 4 scale? Is that because your base coat is 2-1?

    • @Mechaniclyfe
      @Mechaniclyfe  2 месяца назад

      No worries the 2 line is the amount, so if it’s in a 2:1 ratio box and I put the paint up line 4 and fill to the next 4 it’s still a 2:1 ratio if that makes sense it’s just more amount

    • @Mechaniclyfe
      @Mechaniclyfe  Год назад +1

      Depends on the brand of paint , each have there own way of reducing , and in some cases activating , some require special additives to mix in with and others are ready to spray . Sorry the answer is vague at best , but you can always refer to the TDS sheet for clarification

      Single stage is an all in one process essentially it’s like base and clearcoat sprayed at the same time

  • @JohnDoesGarage
    @JohnDoesGarage 11 месяцев назад

    After mixing the paint, is there a certain amount of time you need to wait before you start spraying or can you spray right away, or does it all depend on the particular paint/reducer/hardener you're using?

    • @Mechaniclyfe

    Can I use mica powder pigment to basecoat to deepen the color. I understand they are used in clear coats but I’m wondering if I can put them in the base coat paint?

    • @Mechaniclyfe
      @Mechaniclyfe  2 месяца назад

      Best way to do that is using an intercoat, basically a clear base coat that you add your pearls or effect, then clear on top, it can work with adding it to the base coat but it’s a bit of a waster because they get drowned out by the base color , you would need to add a lot of pearl or mica to get the same effect.

    awesome video thaanks , i have a question tho about primers if im having a bare metal piece i need to use epoxy primer or self etching primer , and put over them 2k primer ? and how a bout a non bare metal piece what should i use before base coat ? thanks again

    • @Mechaniclyfe
      @Mechaniclyfe  3 года назад

      Depending , you can use either epoxy or self etch to bare metal. With some epoxy primers you can go straight to Basecoat, but there is a window to be able to do that, after that window it must be sanded Before applying Basecoat. High build primer can be used for Body panels that had body work done. If the panel is nice and flat with no dents, you could even use a sealer before applying Basecoat or sand and apply Basecoat right on top of the original paint as long as the paint wasn’t peeling .again depends on surface and body work needed.

    15+ years ago I used to do on site auto body. Was mostly bumpers for dealerships so used cars looked less banged up for sales. We would custom mix the paint for each vehicle by looking up the paint code and entering it into an app on a blackberry. The app would give us all the mix ratios for each paint and metal flake by weight starting with the most used in production and then other mixes that were used during that year. I had made an entire rack to separate out the colors and flakes by their number. Does anyone know what the app was or one like that? I have been curious about doing some custom stuff in my spare time since I miss doing it but not enough for a full-time job

    • @Mechaniclyfe

    • @jbd579

      @@Mechaniclyfe well that's a start! Thank you! I am sure that everything out there will be company specific so that you stick with their mixes. Though through time I am sure you could custom mix as you like. But to match an existing it would probably be best to follow that companies recipe
