Ok history lesson Scream wasn't just a comedy it was a satire of all slasher films because around the end of the 80s going into the 90s the slasher genre was just dying down because well everyone caught on what the formula was in a slasher movie created generic dumb teens or characters have them get killed off by a masked figure until the heroine aka final girl faces off against the killer and destroys and defeats him, so some writers like Kevin Williamson who wrote the movie scream figured out instead of just making a scary slasher genre let's just make fun of the genre since everyone knows going in what they are in for, also Wes craven directed scream he didn't write it.

Hello Toni and David. Hope you've been having a good day/evening. Horror movies have never been our thing. That's the whole point of this channel, to fill our pop culture knowledge gaps. Thanks for joining us on our journey! 😀
@@popculturallychallenged Yes that is correct, this was basically his movie introduction into cinema with nightmare, he was Nancy's (the main character) boyfriend Glenn who was supposed to stay awake and watch her in her room but temporarily fell asleep he was a teenager in this.
Dreams don't make much sense which is why you never know what will happen in these movies! The first is probably the best, plus it gave us johnny Depp!! Thanks for facing your fears Toni, that's actually a good brave thing to do 🙂
@@jamesnorthup7717 I have not seen this in like 35 years or more. I knew Johnny Depp was in it but I somehow forgot. I kept looking at Glen and thinking, is that Depp?
A popular theory is the entire movie is essentially a dream which explains the ending. The third movie which is a direct continuation brings back Nancy and her father who were the only survivors
Dokken: Dream Warriors. Freddy is in the music video. From Elm Street Three. I wear my watch like that while I am running. The stop watch. Warm milk, a few times a week sometimes. Freddy can't die yet, hence the franchise. Toni looks cute today.
I understood that Nancy had already fallen asleep from the moment she answered the phone and Freddy's tongue came out from the phone. She was in a double dream; then she dreamed that she fell asleep and brought Freddy to the real world, but in reality she only woke up from the second dream, and only brought Freddy to the first dream, which she thought was the real world. There she dreamed that her father and the police entered her house and saved her, and that she then defeated Freddy, but it was all within the first dream, and she continued dreaming that her friends were alive. I assume that her mother did not die when Nancy dreamed that she was burned with Freddy, but that her mother, who had also fallen asleep due to drinking alcohol, also dreamed the same thing as Nancy, they shared the same dream of going out to the porch of the house, where The mother said goodbye to Nancy and she left with her friends. That's where Freddy kills Nancy's mother by dragging her through the little window of the door. Gleen, for his part, had his nightmare where Freddy killed him.
Obviously Nancy didn’t die though but that’s a legitimate theory and it makes sense cause they were all tied into the same story like when glen was a lookout when rod was killed they were in the same dream.
Think about it. If you lived a sheltered life, how would you know at the time? Not a huge fan of this franchise but it was ok. Here mostly for Toney's screams. LOL.
The thing that separates Freddy from other movie slashers is the dream. He's not just a character that happens to be in the setting of a dream, he _is_ the dream, so it's like his victims have stumbled into hell and are trying to escape. Their parents are horrifyingly indifferent and powerless, their friends stupid and unreliable, and even the discovery of internal strength against the dream only takes them deeper into it.
Basically the end scene was a requirement from New Line Cinema. They wanted the door left open for a sequel. Wes Craven didn't want to do that but was forced into it. The whole movie was one big nightmare of Nancy's. There were clues through the whole film that it was all a dream of Nancy's. Freddy was never real, her friends never died. You ever have a dream that you think is real until something so bizarre happens in it that makes you question whether or not you're awake or asleep? Glen's death pointed to that because there was no earthly explanation for how he died. When Nancy saw her mother sink into the bed (when she was supposed to be awake) was the big clue that woke her up to it all. She remembered what Glen said, if you make a monster in your dreams you turn your back on it and it wastes energy and disappears.
@@popculturallychallenged I like scary, but gorey movies. You should check out Signs with Mel Gibson. Lots of suspense but no gore. Same director as The Sixth Sense.
What a nice reaction. ✌🏻🩷 I love this movie and the series overall. Watched this movie hundreds and hundreds of times. Having Freddy appear in dreams, gives them much more freedom to do outlandish kills without it being unbelievable. To funny about the shoes though! Dreams are often so illogical that many of these things, are stuff that many recognize from their oen dreams. Hope you continue reacting to more classic slashers 🫶🏼🩷 Happy Halloween
The ending is confusing because the studio forced Wes Craven to change the ending so they could make more movies. This was supposed to be a one and done film. Thats part of the reason Wes did not direct any of the sequels until number 7 Wes Cravens new Nightmare.
Wes Craven had another ending but New Line Cinema let him change it cause a sequel was in planing, so this ending is supposed to be more confusing. So only part 3 shows what really happened at the end of part 1, part 2 only reproduces the happenings of part 1 at some point.
I had a Casio Marlin as a kid in the 80's but one of the budget ones. I remember there were some fancy digital watches but they were way out of my reach back then. 🙂
When Wes Craven wrote this, he never thought sequel. New line fought Wes on the ending, there's more then five endings. Wes wrote this one, he did direct the third one with some input on the screenplay. He also wrote and directed A New Nightmare, I believe came out in 94. Just before Scream, which is based on a killer in Florida around that time. Was a collage campus spree from memory.
The other Nightmare on Elm Street movies are pretty good! The reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street wasn't good to me! You need to do a reaction to American Haunting it has Sissy Spacek and Donald Sutherland it's good!

Horror movies have never been our thing. That's the whole point of this channel, to fill our pop culture knowledge gaps. Thanks for joining us on our journey! 😀
Do either of you know who Johnny Depp is???
I think so.... Pirates of the Caribbean, right? - Toni 🤓
@@popculturallychallenged Yes that is correct, this was basically his movie introduction into cinema with nightmare, he was Nancy's (the main character) boyfriend Glenn who was supposed to stay awake and watch her in her room but temporarily fell asleep he was a teenager in this.
This is one of my favorite reactions of yours because I love how Toni is eyeing all the details about the dreams. It's so great 👍
Thank you so much!!
My all time favorite horror film, im 41 and this will always stand the test of time, Wes Craven is a legend
I'm 51 and this movie scared the shit out of me at 12
Yeah, 44 here. Was not fun
Not me. But still a classic.
I'm 51 and was pretty impressed with this one! 😃 -David
I have a top #10 best horror movie list of the 1970s. Would you like to see it?@@popculturallychallenged
Dreams don't make much sense which is why you never know what will happen in these movies! The first is probably the best, plus it gave us johnny Depp!! Thanks for facing your fears Toni, that's actually a good brave thing to do 🙂
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
There are other stars here. Lin Shyne, Robert England and John Saxon.
@@mikerodgers7620 granted, but he's clearly the most well known! Plus some reactors don't even recognize him that young, so it's funny to me..
Back in 1984 we didn't either. John Saxon was the only well-known star here.@@jamesnorthup7717
That does make sense... -Toni 😊
Think about it. If you lived a sheltered life, how would you know at the time? Not a huge fan of this franchise but it was ok. Here mostly for Toney's screams. LOL.
Great point! Thanks for joining us! 😀
Very well said. - Toni 😊
"Why is she smoking and drinking?"
Hey, it was the 80's!

That was so much fun watching Toni jump out of her skin!😂
Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Just think going to bed with the knowledge that this is inspired by a true story
(He Dies)
No way.... I will not think about that, I will not think about that, I will not think about that. - Toni 🫣
Did you realize that Glen was played by Johnny Depp?
yes, yes we did... 😊 - Toni
@@popculturallychallenged I like scary, but gorey movies. You should check out Signs with Mel Gibson. Lots of suspense but no gore. Same director as The Sixth Sense.
No way she started crying 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Innit 😂😂😂😂
Yep, she did! 😂
Nightmare On Elm Street 3 & 4 have even better practical effects than this one if you continue this franchise later.
We're thinking about continuing. Not sure yet. 🙂
I was late and it was tissue time. I didn't see that coming. Jumping maybe. Blankets flying. Not tissues.
: )
Leave it to Toni to surprise everyone! 😃
Didn’t you recognize her boyfriend???? A Very young Johnny Depp (pirates of the Caribbean)!
Glenn!!
Yep! He hasn't changed much! I'd love to know his secret! 😃
Most miilitary personnel wear watches facing inward so the face doesn't reflect light. Kinda important if you're trying to be sneaky.
Good point!
When you comment on their irrational behaviour, you gotta keep in mind that they’re dreaming. A lot of things don’t make sense when we’re dreaming.
Good point!
What a nice reaction. ✌🏻🩷
I love this movie and the series overall.
Thank you! We're planning on releasing Halloween next week! 😃
I am Team Toni. I find camping to be the creepiest activity. I will not do it under any circumstances.
Thank you!
they get really silly. 3&4 are decent. i would suggest freddy vs jason and the remake a nightmare on elm street
Thanks!
😂😂😂 you make laugh jumping all the time he's lucky to have you such a beautiful lady!
Thank you!
I’m going to go to sleep tonight thinking about wearing shoes and see what happens😂
I've thought about shoes every night since watching but haven't needed them or at least I don't think so since I can't remember my dreams. - Toni 😂
come on now, have u ever focused on shoes in your dreams lol. nice reaction tho👍
I never have but apparently I need to start! 😂 -David
The ending is confusing because the studio forced Wes Craven to change the ending so they could make more movies. This was supposed to be a one and done film. Thats part of the reason Wes did not direct any of the sequels until number 7 Wes Cravens new Nightmare.
That's good to know! I thought he was involved with all of them! Thanks for the info!
Did you recognize a very young Johnny Depp as Glen?
Yep! He was so young!
Johnny Depp first role, glen
He hasn't changed much... -Toni 🙂
Wes Craven had another ending but New Line Cinema let him change it cause a sequel was in planing, so this ending is supposed to be more confusing. So only part 3 shows what really happened at the end of part 1, part 2 only reproduces the happenings of part 1 at some point.
We may check out more someday. 😃
Nancy comes back
So Nancy returns in the second movie? - Toni 🤓
@@popculturallychallenged the 3rd movie. The 2nd was a weird movie but some like it.
Coco for Nov 1...Dia de los muertos....day of the dead....trust me ...a breather for Toni
We've both seen Coco actually. Our daughters were really into that one for a while! 😃
Going to be interesting 🔥🔥
Hope you enjoy the reaction! 😀
Yes, there were "talking watches" in the 80s..but they were expensive.
Interesting... Thank you. - Toni 😊
The other Nightmare on Elm Street movies are pretty good! The reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street wasn't good to me! You need to do a reaction to American Haunting it has Sissy Spacek and Donald Sutherland it's good!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Freddy Kruger was my favorite movie monster!!
He was scary! 👍
Big Nightmare fan here....always appreciate anyone who reacts to them....Thanks!
Thank you!!
