I like the remake a lot aswell. The only bad scene is the cgi wall Freddy. Cut that out of the film and its a solid horror film and is faithful to the original nightmare on elm street. People just dont appreciate it because it was mostly just the first film again (which is fair enough) and because its not Robert England (which is also understandable but the new Freddy was very good imo).
It's definitely better than most of the sequels, James was definitely a little biased since he did say in his review of the remake that he hated it. Also Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) helping kill the human Freddy in the flashback is amazing and no one can convince me otherwise
One of my favorite parts about Freddy, is how he taunts his victims and allows them to respond to him, instead of just mindlessly walking around without talking and just slaughtering.
IMHO Freddy looked the most menacing and stylistically scary in Freddy's Revenge. The creepy contact lenses made him even more otherworldly. His burnt face makeup is the most real and gross-out looking from all the films (where in most of the Freddy movies it looks a lot of times too slick and pizza'y) Also Robert Englund's serious acting and expressive body language and gestures with the hat are the most cinematically strong and horrific.
@Nightmare1398 Yes totally, also the music in Freddy's Revenge is super intense and for me the best out of the series. Those slashing violins and that menacing tone, really dark and disturbing and pulsating with raw energy. Especially during the scene where his best friend is killed.
Always thought the menacingly evil brown eyes and thick brow should've been the signature of Freddy. Imagine how scarier the other movies would've been with that Freddy look?
@@mattvillan4591 Its pretty much smack in the middle of my ranking list. I don't think that it's a good movie at all but it still beats Part 5, 6 and the remake.
I really wanted to like the remake, and I definitely liked it more than most people, I think. I was able to look past the pointless shot for shots from the original and some of the weaknesses in the script. When they were flirting with the idea of Freddy being innocent, I was intrigued. There could be some interesting stuff to come out of an innocent man being killed and then becoming a monster in the afterlife. And then they went back on it, and it felt pretty pointless
Honestly as Nightmare 2 is my favorite im just glad it got on the better half of the list. Jesse having an actually steady family was a nice surprise considering the parents we would get in sequels and Clu Gulager was hilarious yet sweet in his interviewed bits for the Never Sleep Again documentary
The highlite for me was getting a glimpse of the 'Probe' board game in Jessie's closet. The gay undertones killed me. XD Freddy's make up looked outstanding, with his warlock-like witch like aesthetic. I'd absolutely take Part 2 over New Nightmare any day, along with the Remake & even Freddy Vs Jason. As I've gotten older, i've come to have a whole new appreciate for part 5, with it's sulking atmopshere, stellar cinematopgraphy and high level of creativity and imagination.
A friend of mine worked on Robert Englund's indie film "Inkubus" in 2010 and my son and I visited the set. Aside from the cool body bits lying around and occasional severed head on set, I was able to talk to Robert about the then recent remake. He was surprisingly candid and said he wasn't a fan because he couldn't believe in the actors playing the teens. He felt they just didn't LOOK like scared teens - they looked like drugged up adults. He didn't say much more, but that was pretty telling. And I'm sure it doesn't need saying, but I will say it - Robert is an amazing guy and spent a while discussing his love for independent horror films and named quite a few. Class act. He needs to don the glove one more time.
Wow, such brutal honesty from Robert. Although funny at the same time as one of those “teens” Jesse Braun aka Thomas Dekker ended up working with him on Fear Clinic
James: "Fred Kreuger running around in the real world kinda goes against his whole thing" Also James: *gives golden machete to Fred running around in the real world*
@@YTWgamer how is that an issue? He states numerous times that these rankings are updated opinions. For example, the leprechaun killcount has a ton of opinions disregarded because, news flash, people change lmao
@@N_o196 because the opinions are inconsistent. You can't hate a remake for being too similar to the original and then only criticize what's different about it.
@@N_o196 that's true. But to start off a critique by saying it's too similar, and then do nothing but complain about what's different? That's inconsistent. Exactly what I'm complaining about. Also, the new things don't necessarily suck. I can think the blow up dolls and shitty stretch Armstrong Freddy sucks, but that doesn't mean they do.
I love the epilepsy warnings and I wish more channels did the sound cues like that. I personally don’t have problems with flashing lights, but I really appreciate the effort to help those who need it in an unique and effective way.
God, I agree with the remake. When they were toying with the idea that Freddy was innocent that really got my attention but then they had to have a twist on that twist.
When the movie was being made that plot point leaked, and allegedly he was originally going to actually BE innocent. There was a furor over that and I'm not sure if it changed the original planned ending any (like what happened when Terminator Salvation's ending leaked) or that was the plan all along. Regardless it is the worst of the series bar none.
I would love to see all these classics do something similar to what Halloween is doing. Going back to the Og roots and telling an actual story over X amount of movies
New Nightmare was my second favorite to the original! I love when the limo driver is telling her how much he loves her in her films. Then he gets all descriptive and she rolls the window up on him. Wes Craven will be missed in the horror world!
Yes, it grew on me,too. I like the settings and script. Good effects and Wes' direction. I also really like Julie as a good character she was; loving, caring, and protective. Shame she died like Tina did. She reminds me of a family friend that loved me growing up as a kid. Wes is sorely missed.
"None of the actors beside Robert Englund apear in the other sequels". That is INCORRECT. The S&M bartender is played by Bob Shaye, who returns to the series in Part 4 (teacher), 6 (ticket vendor), WCNN (head of the movie studio) and FvsJ (the principal)-
Renny Harlin is an extremely talented & versatile director from Finland. I guess when you say Finnish fast enough, it can sound like French? IDK , but I know he's not French.
NANCY THOMPSON IS OFFICIATING YOUR WEDDING?!?!?! HELL YEAH!! That's so awesome for you two! I'm super giddy for it, please please please release a wedding video! Heather sounds like an absolute treat to be around.
I like seeing other videos than Kill Counts sometimes. It shows James’ diversity in his content. It’s also one of the things that I think makes him one of my favorite RUclipsrs of all-time.

I think 1 through 6 are all fun movies so you'll get your money's worth,so in quality I think the nightmare franchise is more consistent than Friday the 13th or Halloween
As someone who grew up with the Nightmare series and also considers it my favorite horror franchise, this was a treat to see! Also, big time congrats to James & Chelsea on getting Heather Langenkamp to officiate their wedding! Seriously, how cool is that?!
God I'd want nothing more than for James and Chelsea to discuss Mark Patton's Scream, Queen on the channel in any format. It's really what solidified Nightmare 2 as one of my all time favorite horror movies. Mad respect. Also a huge fan of the ranking, I'd definitely watch more.
Same here! I loved the documentary, so I'm curious what they have to say. Not only that, I remember not being a fan of Freddy's Revenge originally, but the documentary totally changed my perception when I gave the movie another chance.
I Thought Scream Queens was amazing. I Love that Mark Patton Got his Closure and has Embraced this movie as a Cult Classic now. Honestly aside from Heathers Performances, I always thought Marks acting was the best though the rest of the Franchise. It was a shame that cast never got a opportunity for Sequels.
It took years and years to realise this, but Taryn's death scene literally caused me to be afraid of needles during my childhood - I first watched Dream Warriors when I was like 8. Years later, when I realised, I could get over the phobia of needles.
I personally liked Dr. Gordon's character in Dream Warriors, he felt like one of, if not the only, adult in the series, outside of Nancy of course, who really seemed to care about the kids' well-beings and wanting to help them instead of being dismissive of Freddy's existence. Congrats on the wedding and getting Heather Langenkamp to officiate it. That must be a dream come true.....as long as Freddy doesn't show up and turn it into a nightmare.
Agreed! He genuinely listened and wanted to help. His business with Amanda Krueger wasn't boring to me either, it helped establish some interesting lore about Freddy in his backstory. Plus, his relationship with Nancy helped add layers to the connections the characters in the movie had.
Getting officiated by Heather Langenkamp after becoming friends with her, thats just freaking awesome :). Great ranking, and I agree. The movies with Nancy are the best. I love that John Saxon is in all of them :).
The one thing that always confused me about the Nightmare movies was that they always made it seem like Freddy was victimizing LITTLE children when he was alive but in the movies it was always teenagers and sometimes adults. Why couldn't they just lead with that in the 1st place??
@@greatgator8303 Yeah I really wanted to finish this franchise back in February but they never added it and I really wanna experience the movies as a whole instead of just watching the Kill Count again.
@@beybladelover2759 well all of them were my favorites especially the one where Freddy issues one of the kids tendons to control him like a puppet and force him to jump off the roof it was cool and very disturbing especially when he was smiling.
For me Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors was when the franchise was at its peak. It had a symbiotic balance of horror, fantasy with a tiny pinch of comedy. Everything had fallen into place and it was brilliant and I imagine at the time it was a cultural phenomenon and exciting to see in the media. Then for me Elm Street 4: Dream Master is when Freddy became an MTV icon and the horror was gone and the slippery downfall began. Freddy was no longer amongst the shadows but was in the spotlight front and centre. However all these films hold a special place in my heart. I dearly love this series and watch them every year. A great video and ranking.
My favorite part of Freddy's Dead is when Freddy says "I can't take it anymore! I'm gonna travel time!" And then travel times everywhere. Truly the most Freddy movie ever
I was surprised that James didn't rank Freddy's dead at 9 or 8. I was so sure he would. Love this channel. Always entertaining and sometimes surprises pop up.
Yea the original and Dream Warriors is pretty much the consistent top, and most agree New Nightmare is great. Outside of that it varies greatly person to person. So basically Heather Langenkamp is the key to the series and the rest is up to you

Plus the blades coming out of his hand instead of a glove is just straight up gross and disturbing
Always thought the menacingly evil brown eyes and thick brow should've been the signature of Freddy. Imagine how scarier the other movies would've been with that Freddy look?
I completely agree and was at his most brutal
What is IMHO?
I'll give Dream Child one thing, Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter is a classic, that's it.

I know right, they could've put an interesting twist....and they completely dropped the ball
@@alexandernickaboine4798 I do think he was the scariest though
Yeah, plus the fact the cast was awful too, Rooney Mara as Nancy Thompson didn't convinced me
Katie Cassidy should've been Nancy, she was really good in the Remake.
They always seem to forget character development in remakes lol
Honestly as Nightmare 2 is my favorite im just glad it got on the better half of the list. Jesse having an actually steady family was a nice surprise considering the parents we would get in sequels and Clu Gulager was hilarious yet sweet in his interviewed bits for the Never Sleep Again documentary
Same!
The highlite for me was getting a glimpse of the 'Probe' board game in Jessie's closet. The gay undertones killed me. XD
Freddy's make up looked outstanding, with his warlock-like witch like aesthetic.
I sure hope he will do it. Heck.... make as many more as he likes... we will watch them all.
James: "Fred Kreuger running around in the real world kinda goes against his whole thing"

If his criticism was consistent it'd be much easier to listen to.
@@YTWgamer I mean, you kinda can lmao. If a remake is too similar than it's boring, and if it does different things that suck, then it sucks lmao
@James Iron That was such a knee slapper
I love the ranking video. Keep them coming. I'd like to see your thoughts on the Saw movies best to worst, Child's Play as well.

I’m such a fan of dead meat … who else said “super Freddy Sucks” the same time as James during the video
Me of course
Not me
Every... !@$-ing... time.
I got a little misty eyed hearing about Heather Langenkamp becoming ordained for your wedding next year! Your lives are the coolest!
It's my favorite one!
"None of the actors beside Robert Englund apear in the other sequels". That is INCORRECT. The S&M bartender is played by Bob Shaye, who returns to the series in Part 4 (teacher), 6 (ticket vendor), WCNN (head of the movie studio) and FvsJ (the principal)-
Did you just out-nerdy-fun-fact THE James A. Janise?
Nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd lol
He said "actor" not "producers who insist on putting himself in front of the camera".
@Viper Hareous Eh, technically yeah but logically no.
Renny Harlin is an extremely talented & versatile director from Finland. I guess when you say Finnish fast enough, it can sound like French? IDK , but I know he's not French.
James, I truly appreciate your content and am terribly sorry the way youtube's been treating the past week. Keep counting man.
"Well the map says we're fucked!!" Is one of my favorite movie quotes of al time.

Having Heather Langenkamp officiate your ceremony is the biggest flex ever! Way to go James! All my love to you and Chelsea for your upcoming wedding!
Freddy being innocent was a great idea in the remake... and they wasted.
That would have been the one thing that would have made it memorable. I wonder if they ever considered it, but then chickened out.
The remake of NOES is personally for me even worse than the 2007 remake of Halloween

James is a genuinely nice guy, so happy that he's marrying Chelsea
It took years and years to realise this, but Taryn's death scene literally caused me to be afraid of needles during my childhood - I first watched Dream Warriors when I was like 8. Years later, when I realised, I could get over the phobia of needles.
Okay?
He’s got the hat, he’s got the sweater, his face looks like burnt cheddar. Missed opportunity IMO
Jfc I forgot Heather is officiating your wedding what even is your life, you and Chelsea are just the coolest
The one thing that always confused me about the Nightmare movies was that they always made it seem like Freddy was victimizing LITTLE children when he was alive but in the movies it was always teenagers and sometimes adults. Why couldn't they just lead with that in the 1st place??
It sucks that HBO Max doesn't have the third installment of this franchise.
