Best final girl line ever is in Scream 2. Sidney: "You're forgetting one thing about Billy Loomis" Mickey: "Whats that?" Sidney: "I fucking killed him"
Fully agreed. I also love in the first movie when Randy and Stu are begging her to give them the gun and accusing each other as the killer, and she says "Fuck you both!" Best final girl, ever.
THIS LINE!!!! and Sidneys rant at Roman in the third one where she ends his whole career telling him she’s heard all this shit before and he can’t blame anyone else for what he’s doing is absolutely iconic. She’s THE final girl and honestly my favourite female character from any film.
Or the line in the fifth one when Sidney is at Stu's house again after many years, Ghostface calls her and she shuts his call, saying "Fuck this, i'm bored" She is the ultimate final girl

Scream is a series where the "weaker" movies are not nearly as bad as the lesser films in other franchises. Hopefully the new one doesn't mess anything up.
You can be strong willed while still being feminine sensitive and vulnerable aka not embody a man psyche attitude actions and persona where you seem butch or lesbo and aggressive...girls want that ...not a female pretending to act like a man for the plot or situations
some writers take strength as a lack of vulnerability, but vulnerability is strength. so many "strong women" characters are written as over-the-top badasses who are bothered by nothing. that's just a caricature that seems like a mockery as Chelsea points out

As a child of the 90s (born late 80s), I feel like Scream stirs up so much nostalgia because it was OUR generations slasher flick. Rather than always looking back on classics from Psycho to Jason to Halloween, we finally had a horror villain of our own. Ghostface wasn’t supernatural, just a deranged person with a knife, a phone, and a mask, which made the killer seem so much more believable and terrifying.
talking of the opening scene in the first movie: i noticed that when casey's parents go into the house her dad goes into the living room while her mom goes into the kitchen to take care of the popcorn, and when she runs back into the hall her dad runs into her and stops her from going into the living room, and i just recently realized that that was an attempt to keep her from seeing steve's body, which was especially heartbreaking when she ends up seeing casey's body first.
Oh my goodness I never even thought of that. The opening is the scariest the movies EVER got. The movies are plenty scary but that opening of part 1 just seemed to hold you by the gut like nothing else ever created.
Something that I just noticed in my previous rewatch of Scream is that when Billy first climbs through Sidney’s window, an acoustic cover of Don’t Fear the Reaper is playing in the background. This is cool not only because of it referencing Halloween (1978) but also because it’s an audio cue for Billy being the killer. Also the idea of embracing a personification of death also relates to Billy’s desire to get uh, ‘intimate’ with Sidney before killing her. Just something really cool that I noticed!
Those bangs were god awful, yes, but I think that Chelsea could definitely pull them off. Maybe she'll try it for the podcast they'll likely do on Scream 5.

I love how you guys described Sidney Prescott and what makes her such an amazing character. Y’all literally said my exact feelings about her and it’s why she’s my favorite fictional character. Also the amazing Neve Campbell helps too. I also liked how you gave credit to her in Scream 4. I’ve heard people say she wasn’t as bad ass in that movie, but I loved her in it because she’s an adult now and played a more Protector role. Like as soon as these young teens were getting attacked Sidney was out the door and to the rescue! Sidney is an ICON.
In any other horror movie Dewey would be two different things he would either be the comic relief character who is killed off and isn't that important or if they wanted to have his character be around like he is he would be a Chris Hemsworth type character. Strong good looking alpha male type who gets with the hot reporter. I can not think of any other horror movie where the main guy is a goofball
Sidney is my second favorite final girl. I don’t know why but my favorite is Grace from Ready or Not. Have about a top ten list of favorite final girls James?
I rewatched these recently (I've seen them countless times) and I had the subtitles on and I only just realized at the end of Scream, while Dewey is being wheeled away into the ambulance, he is asking for Gale while she is busy reporting on the story, whereas at the end of Scream 2, Gale abandons her cameraman asking her to report so that she can get into the ambulance with Dewey 🥺
My favorite thing that Mickey/Timothy Olyphant says is: “Since Derek here disappeared on my ass, ive been on my own, all fuckin’ night. Thanks a lot partner.” I love how he manipulated Sidney easily i just love that line
I just want to say, you're both so adorable in how deeply you just love the Scream series and it really made this a lot of fun. You guys are always great but this might be my favorite podcast.
I heard Wes Craven's commentary once. He said in the first movie, the stunt man who played Ghostface took the blade and wiped it clean on during the takes and that became consistent in the movies
What I want most for Dewey in the new Scream is that the filmmakers tap into Arquette's death match experience and Dewey has a brutal knock-down-dragout brawl with the killer.
The thing about the Scream movies is that they always have touchstones that in some ways are very of their time but are also prescient. Scream I feel got in the zeitgeist due to Scary Movie among people who were not horror fans but that cast is magic. Thanks to Scream 2 the song "I Think I Love You" is karaoke go to. Since Scream 3 did have Kevin Williamson writing it, Ehren Kruger kind of makes it a parody of itself and there are definite sci fi inspired elements. Scream 4 feels like they were creating their own tropes based on the way that world would be due the influence of the Stab movies.I like that it we see the progression of the character from high school to college to working for a non profit to a book tour so I wonder where she would be in her life in the new movie. 1, 2, 4, 3 for me. Looking forward to what ever y'all do in connection to the new Scream next year. B~)
I'm currently working on a show with Parker Posey and I did tell her she was the best part of Scream 3 as well! She's hilarious and has so much energy.
I think it will be Dewey that gets killed off in the new Scream film. Makes the most sense. It would be hard for both Gale and Sidney to cope with while also trying to survive the killer. It would be a punch to the gut for the fans as well. Can’t wait for this film to be released. I was able to get the 4K Steelbook for the 25th anniversary!
Scream is probably my favorite horror film, I literally can't wait for Scream 5! I have fond memories of basically all of them, and I'm going to be marathoning them for my birthday this Friday!
51:10 Hypersexuality as a coping mechanism after a rape *is* a thing but also yeah that's perhaps not the best route to opt for in a movie where you don't have time to delve into the intricacies of that trauma.
I was lucky enough to meet Matt and Skeet a few weeks back at a con - they’re both amazing guys and play off each other just as much in real life as they do in the movie! Matt had such a long queue that he kept taking short breaks to run down the line and apologise that it was taking so long
ahhh the scream series is my favorite horror franchise!! this episode is such a treat, so jealous you guys got to stay at the scream house. love the costumes!! my personal ranking would be scream > scream 4 > scream 2 > scream 3 - but i love them all to death
24:53 Billy and Stu were the most vicious Ghostfaces because they full on gutted their victims and it's scary how into describing how to gut someone Stu got in the scene at the fountain showing how much he enjoyed him and Billy tormenting and killing Casey and Steve. And as for Billy he messes with Sidney's head by dropping the phone out of his pocket giving away that he's the killer and then while he's in jail has Stu phone Sidney as Ghostface to make her think Billy's innocent. Then at the school he subtly mocks her mother's death by acting like it was no different to his mother leaving his dad after Hank's affair with Maureen. He pressures her into having sex with him so she'll fit the "sex equals death" cliche he believes, fakes his own death to fuck with her by having Stu pretend to stab him then later him and Stu reveal themselves.
Yeah I feel like having the recurring characters really adds a lot to these movies. Even when some parts of the movies aren't the best, you always have the entertaining characters to fall back on. Love the podcast btw
The thing about Dewey is that a lot of his goofiest stuff doesn't get called out. It just happens, and it's normal for the people around him so they take his goofiness in stride. It's part of why he feels so real, because the reactions of the people AROUND him who know ihm well feel real.
She so cute..surprised she's not in everything...she has a face for tv...she reminds me of Chelsea from that's so raven...theres an earnest smile she has...shame she isn't a young adult in the 90's...they would of cast her for everything with that smile
not only was scream 4 filmed in michigan, it was filmed in my small hometown of plymouth. the fountain they use to recreate the original is the fountain that my friends and i would hangout at all the time. that alone puts the fourth movie high up in my favorites.
The most horrifying thing was Mickey encouraging Derek to do it and clapping along with it like a bestie when in reality he’s basically setting up Sidney to get emotionally tortured later.
I've watched every kill count but this is my first podcast and I've come to the conclusion that I can just listen to James talk about movies 24/7... Yous guys are a duo can't wait to binge the podcast playlist.
I went to see a twernty-fifth anniversary screening of the original Scream a month ago at my local cinema (last night I went to a showing of The Lost Boys and two years ago It was a showing of The Shining).
Me too! It was so fun because our theater was decently packed and it was a mix of people who were already fans and people who had never seen it, so the audience was really fun! Nobody was super loud or annoying but it was fun hearing the little comments or gasps in the background, lol.
I'm calling it right now. I feel like the person out of 3 OG's to bite the bullet, is going to be Dewey. Scream 5 is going be a force awakens type of deal
Scream is hands down, my favorite horror film series of all time. The first box set DVD I ever bought and watched them on repeat with directors commentary a million times. My kids are old enough now to enjoy them and I am stoked for it. I can't wait to take them to see 5. I spent 3 months of my last pregnancy talking myself out of naming my daughter Sydney. 😂
I appreciated Matthew Lillard’s OTP performance. It distracts the audience from the seriousness of what’s really taking place on screen. The part when they start hacking away at each other is actually terrifying.
I rewatched them all recently (even slogging through the mtv show) in prep for January. I think if Parker Posey wasn’t in Scream 3 it would be a full struggle to watch. My rank order is probably 1,4,2 then 3. But I honestly love all of them in many different ways.
I consider Scream to be my favorite horror film franchise, love that the movies are not just slasher films but they're also murder mysteries. Love going back and seeing all the hints on who the killers are after you know who they are.
I know what Chelsea means about not being able to NOT notice the location when you are familiar with the area. Scream 5 was filmed in Wilmington and I can't not notice that. The cardinal bowling alley, the school, the hospital, and even just the streets in the background when Judy is driving.
I know that I am super late to this video but I wanted to say that Scream is also my favourite franchise. Also I love the car crash scene in Scream 2 and always had a theory of why Sidney leaves instead of double tapping Ghostface whe he is passed out in the car. Based on her experience in the first Scream Sidney might be afraid that there are two killers and she doesn't know if they other killer is around. She gets out of the car just to get to her friend Hallie who is alone and scared (because Sidney is a badass and gentle hero and the greates final girl ever). That's why she only turns around to lift the mask and finish him once both her and Hallie are safe. Also I love you channel guys! Huge fan from Spanish currently living in the UK!

2 and 3 are kinda meh but still cool
@@lochofmceo yeah that’s true, tho I like all of them for different reasons, I think I like 3 more than 2😂
@@jeromeinthehousesowatchyam4237 agreed.3 was really creative
@20:00 Dewey was also the older brother to her best friend that is now passed. He always was an older brother to Sid and no one ever talks about how important that is to these movies.
When they're talking about Matthew and Chelsea goes "he's so tall" 🤣🤣
Shorty : [answers phone] Yo.
The Killer : Hello, Shorty. What are you doing?
Shorty : Nothin. Just watching the game. Smokin some bud.
The Killer : Are you all alone?
Shorty : [to roommate] Yo, pick up the phone!
Shorty's Roomate : [sticking out tongue] WAZZZZUPPP!
Shorty : WAZZZUP!
[killer looks at phone]
Shorty : Yo, Dookie! Pick up the phone!
Dookie : Yo.
The Killer : WAZZZZUP!
Shorty , The Killer , Shorty's Roomate , Dookie : WAZZZZZUPPP!
[Dookie and roommate hang up]
Shorty : What you doin my son?
The Killer : Nothing. Just chillin. Killin.
Shorty : True.
YEEEEES! I’ll never watch Scream 1 the same since Scary Movie lol
For a moment, I thought Chelsea was dressed as April O'Neil, but after remembering this was filmed in Stu's house, I corrected myself. XD
Same
Omg I wonder if the look for gale was inspired by April O'Neil. I can't unsee it now lol
if it was yellow, maybe i'd see it. but that's deffo Gale, because it's green
As someone who has lived near farmland since middle school it is funny to hear people’s shock at the farm land noises and sights lol
I forget sometimes that people aren't used to hearing cows lol
In any other horror movie Dewey would be two different things he would either be the comic relief character who is killed off and isn't that important or if they wanted to have his character be around like he is he would be a Chris Hemsworth type character. Strong good looking alpha male type who gets with the hot reporter. I can not think of any other horror movie where the main guy is a goofball
Here after watching you guys on the new Scream (2022) movie. Props to you guys! Much appreciation.
The best channel of YT making a podcast about one of the best horror franchises out there, i really hope the new Scream turns out to be good
A HUGE Congrats for making it in to the series itself!
Well deserved.
Scream is by far my favorite slasher series of all time. And the whodunit element makes it so rewatchable.
Sidney is my second favorite final girl. I don’t know why but my favorite is Grace from Ready or Not. Have about a top ten list of favorite final girls James?
Yes! They should definitely do a final girl ranking
The second villain of Scream 3 is Gayle's bangs.
i was born in the same year as the original Scream and i still consider it the best thing i share a birth year with; love it so much
Dewey's theme was first used in the mid 90's classic Broken Arrow starting John Travolta and Christian Slater
Came here to say the same. Hans Zimmer classic!
Chelsea, you explained the way I feel about these movies with one word: cozy. That is exactly how feel. They're almost like feel-good movies to me.
Honestly the appreciation for Gale is so amazing to hear. Shes my favourite final woman and hands down my absolute favourite horror character
POV: You anticipate the podcast more than Kill Counts.
I heard Wes Craven's commentary once. He said in the first movie, the stunt man who played Ghostface took the blade and wiped it clean on during the takes and that became consistent in the movies
I'm glad James mentioned how Scream was the movie that got him into the horror genre because it was the same for me.
Same. In fact I have a friend who is trying to get into the genre and I kept telling her “Scream. Scream. Scream”
I just want to say how happy I am to be able to see a couple connect over something so simple it's beautiful.. God bless you guys
What I want most for Dewey in the new Scream is that the filmmakers tap into Arquette's death match experience and Dewey has a brutal knock-down-dragout brawl with the killer.
About Gale: She's not bad batch, she's not murdering people.
Good soldiers follow orders.
Omg :D
Congrats!
Lucky man.
Omg im a huge parker posey fan and was just thinking ab her and hoping she was working on something new. Lucky dog!
100% this podcast got me into listening to podcasts in general. Amazing production value and so entertaining. Keep up the great work Chelsea!
I was lucky enough to meet Matt and Skeet a few weeks back at a con - they’re both amazing guys and play off each other just as much in real life as they do in the movie! Matt had such a long queue that he kept taking short breaks to run down the line and apologise that it was taking so long
I love hearing this! He sounds like such a nice guy.
ahhh the scream series is my favorite horror franchise!! this episode is such a treat, so jealous you guys got to stay at the scream house. love the costumes!!
my personal ranking would be scream > scream 4 > scream 2 > scream 3 - but i love them all to death
So amazing to see you guys be so meta in Scream 5!
The thing about Dewey is that a lot of his goofiest stuff doesn't get called out. It just happens, and it's normal for the people around him so they take his goofiness in stride. It's part of why he feels so real, because the reactions of the people AROUND him who know ihm well feel real.
I'm loving this Dewey love. He's really the best, and I'm really worried for him in the new movie.
Damn don’t watch Scream 5 ~ he dies
Loved your cameo in the new scream. I about jumped out of my seat when it happened. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the new one.
Did anyone else freak out in the cinema when they saw James and Chelsea in scream 2022?????
Same, I was bummed when I figured out that it meant there was no actual flamethrower 😐
She so cute..surprised she's not in everything...she has a face for tv...she reminds me of Chelsea from that's so raven...theres an earnest smile she has...shame she isn't a young adult in the 90's...they would of cast her for everything with that smile
YES!!!!!!
YES!
Of all people, you two are the PERFECT duo to do a podcast from Stu's house!
Also, the end of this had me crying with laughter. 🤘
Ghostface undeniably has the sexiest voice in horror.
not only was scream 4 filmed in michigan, it was filmed in my small hometown of plymouth. the fountain they use to recreate the original is the fountain that my friends and i would hangout at all the time. that alone puts the fourth movie high up in my favorites.
35:16 Derek singing was the most horrifying part of the 2nd film.
The most horrifying thing was Mickey encouraging Derek to do it and clapping along with it like a bestie when in reality he’s basically setting up Sidney to get emotionally tortured later.
That’s the most legitimately horrifying part of that sequence.
I've watched every kill count but this is my first podcast and I've come to the conclusion that I can just listen to James talk about movies 24/7... Yous guys are a duo can't wait to binge the podcast playlist.
Congrats on your appearance in the new film. I freaked out when I saw you two.
It’s so awesome that you got to film the podcast at Shaggy’s/Stu Macher’s house, btw nice costumes they fit you perfectly
1. Scream
2. Scream 5
3. Scream 4
4. Scream 2
5. Scream 3
I love every Scream movie even 3
My ranking is the same
My ranking is the exact same
They should've done a bit where Chelsea dubs in something James says with the voice changer and they act surprised that it has their voices.
I feel like this was a decent idea but looking back at the wording is terrible i feel like it reads like a six year old wrote it.
Sydney is a great name! Why talk yourself out of it lol
@@maineman5757 I knew I wouldn't be able to call her by her name without quoting the movie. 🤣
Us Gale fans exist, guys. 😭 Also love James' and Chelsea's costumes. It's such a creative couple's costume.
Officer Doofy "i told you not to disturb me while I'm cleaning my room"😅
I consider Scream to be my favorite horror film franchise, love that the movies are not just slasher films but they're also murder mysteries. Love going back and seeing all the hints on who the killers are after you know who they are.
favorite horror podcast covering my favorite horror franchise
I know what Chelsea means about not being able to NOT notice the location when you are familiar with the area. Scream 5 was filmed in Wilmington and I can't not notice that. The cardinal bowling alley, the school, the hospital, and even just the streets in the background when Judy is driving.
I didn’t realise Rory Culkin was Macauley Culkin’s brother, but now looking back they look so similar.
