To explain how Jason was able to shoot an arrow from a great distance, you have to pay attention to the scene where Whitney and her boyfriend are checking out the cabin. In Jason’s room, he has a collection of archery trophies, so it would make sense for him to be a good marksman. It’s a great use of “show, don’t tell”.
I'll agree to most of that, though I will still say that even with all the archery trophies, he was still aiming at a moving target and somehow got it on the first try.
Jason's main source of food was likely hunting. Animals and humans by the looks of things. The way the director cut showed the headless bodies in Jason's mancave makes me wonder if they were also implying cannibalism like he's part of the Sawyer family
I always really enjoyed Derek Mears Jason cause he was so athletic & like Rambo & charging people like a Linebacker not giving em time to properly think. I also don't think his Jason gets enough love and recognition, because when I told him he was "the most brutal Jason ever", his eyes just lit up. The man and the movie deserve more recognition!

@@halloqueen666 yea this one definitely in my top 3. Yes he played Jason good and he was a actually terrifying and scary when he runs after the survivors and Also when he had the pillow case over his head was scary

I personally prefer this version of Jason mostly because, how you said it, he’s agile and quick. I felt the old Jason moved like some comic supervillain (not an insult to Kane Hodder or the other actors who played Jason) the quickness makes him feel more scarier like he’s gonna get you no matter what.

It's crazy they called this a remake when it came out, it's basically another sequel, could fit in between 3 and 4 if they want or after Part 8 and before Part 9, or sometime before Jason X
This “reboot” had so much potential. Jason’s character as a living Jason was interesting considering his size and hunting abilities and the way he runs on screen
Well i meant alot of the jason mocies are like almost copies of each other except they make the concepts and scrips different but still they all are the same
@Jay Bigboy he runs but not like he does in this movie. He's like a linebacker, full tilt sprinting at his victims. It makes the running in the old movie look like a brisk jog.
“Are you looking for this? It uh…completes your outfit.” I love this line. This movie bounces back and forth between dumb bro humour, and genuinely funny one-liners.
This version of Jason is my favorite because he’s absolutely terrifying. You can totally buy how menacing he is because of how smart and sadistic his methods are. Also, it’s scary as hell when he sprints after the characters.
Man, whenever James starts praising an actor/crew member for their stellar work/attitude I always assume he's about to say "unfortunately, _____ passed away in 2020. Rest in peace, dude."
This Jason was truly terrifying, it felt like crystal lake belonged to HIM. Whereas his other versions, it felt like he was just living there, he didn't own it or anything.
Exactly, it was his territory and he knew how to use it. It makes you think that if the military ever adopted young Jason they would have turned him into quite the asset.
So the big question, now that we’re through the glorious recounts: are we getting a new ranking video? It was an absolute joy to see how James opinions on these movies have changed so much after rewatching, and how he has matured in his approach to viewing them, taking in to account his appreciation for behind the scenes information and stunt work. I’d love to know how this affects his rankings.
I do think we would like to see his new and improved ranking, he said that his favorites or top three are the remake, part 6 and part 5, he said that the first one is the worst one but honestly I think he changed his mind in part 8 kill count I think part 8 is his least favorite of the bunch and the the first is second to last
This remake doesn’t get enough love. Sure there’s no nostalgia factor but it’s still a well made fan service film. It’s the best parts of the Friday Franchise compacted into 90ish minutes, modernized and made way more violent. Visually it’s awesome and the sheer brutality of Jason in this movie is unmatched in any other Friday. The serious tone works for Friday and if this franchise gets another rebirth I hope the tone stays within this ball park.
@@Beesechurger97 you know your Jason is good when everyone's concerned about his menacing run vs literally everything else I really hope they keep this goin whenever they do get around to making the 13th movie
I like this Jason because I feel like it allows him to stand apart from the other slashers. The way he uses traps and hunts his prey with intelligence, along with his speed and agility makes him a lot scarier
Spot on I agree with you. I remember watching this when it came to dvd and my cousin said this Jason is the scariest version by far. I was like yeah no joke. The film production team really thought this one out
Something I've noticed thanks to the Kill Count is that whenever a character is an absolute unit/extremely scary, the actor playing them is a total sweetheart. That's nice.
I enjoy the more realistic interpretation of Jason in this film. Rather than being a zombie with supernatural strength and durability, he was more just a really strong and athletic dude who knew how to set traps and lure people into an ambush from years of living in that setting. It makes him scarier in a way in the sense that it's more believable. Also, him sprinting at full speed is much more frightening than the power walk of the original Jason.
I mean -- He was human up until he was consequently resurrected in the other films. PS - I feel that Jason calmly walking, with malicious intent, is more intimidating than him hauling ass, as it shows he is calm, collected, and determined.
@@itsinugami I definitely think there is a place for both. The slow walk is scary after because you know there’s no emotion in the man, the full blown sprint to me is just fucking crazy, if I seen a big ass dude in a ski mask running at me id be frightened for sure, I feel like the sprint is more scary in a real world setting I guess
@@itsinugami I wouldn't say calm or collected. He's very clearly filled with rage. That's what makes the power walk scary. His hulking, lumbering frame is approaching with a silent anger that just radiates from him Him sprinting makes the rage more suffocating, in my opinion
I actually think Nolan and Chelsea’s deaths are great subversions of the Friday the 13th series. Up until now, he’s been a bumbling unstoppable force, who simply can’t be stopped because he is too strong. Nolan’s death really comes out of nowhere, and left me confused for a moment, as archery seems like something that usually would be a bit too technical for Jason to grasp. But he’s been living in the ruins of an old summer camp. It makes total sense that he could use a bow. On the other hand, I was totally expecting Jason to smash through the dock to kill Chelsea. The fact he just stabbed through the dock was so fast I almost didn’t realize what happened the first time around. Both kills sort of add a twisted intelligence and finesse to Jason that he never had in any of the other movies.
This Jason and the current Michael Myers (old man Myers) might actually be a closer fight. And I would hate seeing anyone get in their way because both of them, this ones jason and 2023 Michael, would execute anyone who got in their way. Both have never really fought against someone who was their equal and I do think Jason would win that fight but only by a small margin.
@@momomils2982 He wanted to give them the Kill counts the franchise deserved because James' kill count style when he first covered it years ago was different
Yeah, I love how much more in depth he is now. I ended up going through the entire KC series in one(ish) and the difference between old James and new is astounding.
I watched this film at a horror conn in New England with Derek Mears and had drinks with him afterwards as I was a vender for My studio. I also hung out with him at another Horror Conn and he is always a great person that is respectful to all his fans and he loves what he does. We were at a table pitching our indie films and Derek showed up to say “Hi”. The vender next to us had Mike Bays action figure of Jason played by Derek and I said “ Derek; sign his figure! And the vender was like “No that’s ok” Derek was: “ I don’t mind; I’ll sign it” and the vender still passed? His loss! Derek is a true gentleman and horror legend. Swamp thing he was stellar but robbed when the series got canceled. I follow all he does.
Clay squarin' up to Jason is my favourite part of this version. We didn't get enough of people actually holding their own against him in the originals.
I always liked this Jason, the scene of him running up to Richie as at full sprint and lodging the machete in him is just so terrifying in contrast to the usual slow moving Jasons
exactly, this movie gets way too much shit for no reason. Jason is fucking awesome in this movie and so are most of the kills which is what i think most friday fans want out of a friday movie. all and all one of the better remakes for sure.
Anybody else noticing a trend with this series? Pretty much every guy that played Jason was considered by the cast & crew to be one of the nicest people they ever worked with. I find that so wholesome.
Couple of facts about this film: when James brought up how nice Derek Mears is, when he was cast, the crew was actually reluctant about him thinking that he was too nice to play Jason, another fact was that Jenna was actually supposed to have a different death, she was supposed to survive a little longer and hide with Clay and Whitney after escaping Jason’s hideout where she was going to say that she hoped to do something more romantic on a second date with Clay, then Jason would pop out and kill her with a fire extinguisher, however the kill didn’t happen because the film didn’t have enough budget left
@@martin3980 She really does. She's lowkey a scream queen (she gets cast in a lot of horror movies) and they always kill off her characters even tho her characters are always charismatic/good enough to watch
He might not have his signature mask for most of the movie, but this is my favorite depiction of Jason. He's just terrifying to watch him actually run people down as an absolute unit without all the supernatural nonsense
So, I met Danielle Panabaker after she did Friday and we talked for a bit. She's a sweetheart. I told her that the movie made me mad and she asked why. I said, "The final girl is supposed to be the one who we fall in love with. I fell in love with you. They killed the wrong person." She gave me a hug and said that was the sweetest thing a fan had ever said to her. I meant it too. Jenna was the perfect final girl and they screwed it up.
I wouldn’t say perfect. That’s more up to your opinion. If you prefer agile, living smart Jason than yeah, it’s probably the best. But some people prefer zombie, slow, invincible Jason more. I prefer part 6 just because it has more likeable characters and zombie Jason.
The Reboot Jason legit scared the shit out of me as a kid, the way this Jason moved was alone to inject fear into you, Reboot Jason is agile, quick, brutal and efficient, love The Reboot tbh
I like current, old-man Michael Myers as well for similar reasons. You'd think because he's old now that he can't do anything but he took on a team of 10 firefighter and beat them up with their own weapons. No, realistically, firefighters aren't trained to take on suspects but due to their training and jobs they are very much fit and in great shape. My dad did it full time for a few years before calling it quits and deciding to do something less dangerous, but he is the strongest person I have known. I think this Jason and maybe Halloween Kills Michael would be a very even matchup, but I could see Jason winning eventually.
@@staticcharm3808 Agreed, I would've found that more disturbing too, in fact just thinking about it now is pretty horrifying. I appreciate that what they wanted to do in the end was a sort of tongue-in-cheek, one-two moment to the audience: "here's what you want, *slam* violence *slam* boobs", and I don't hate that, but yeah, I think the other would've been better and actually more (if you'll forgive me for using an overused word) of an iconic kill.
Asian guy was alright until he decided to pour alcohol into his sweaty nasty grungy shoe (shoot the boot scene) and drink it. Who does that? I'm a raging alcoholic and not even I could do that without getting nauseous and want to toss my cookies. Waste of alcohol if you ask me.
I like how he had tunnels underneath the camp showing how he can movie so quickly over the grounds. He would eventually have to become a super zombie or a spirit of vengeance
One of the BEST adaptations of Jason EVER in my opinion! Not only because of the fact that he's made camp crystal lake his home and clear hunting grounds. But the fact that he very much is an extreme survivalist type of character mixed in with his inhuman durability, strength, etc. Then add the fact he's set up this bell system to alert him when and where people are on the lake. Also even if he didn't set the bear traps and what not. He knows where they're positioned to avoid them. What really seals it for me and caught me off guard watching this in 2009. Was the fact that aside from hunting the group. He would actively run during his chase scenes, used a damn bow and arrow for a kill, a screwdriver, a mounted elk head, someone burning in a sleeping bag over a fire, waiting on a roof for the teens to come outside (even though it ended up being the police officer) so he could jump down and kill them. This version of Jason was definitely OP and I love it! Lol
Danielle Panabaker was probably the most shocking death to me since Heather Lankenkamp in Nightmare III. Didn't see that coming for the character she portrayed.
i usually hate remakes but this one is like a seperate f13th part rather that just a cheesy reboot, and i think they captured the friday the 13th spirit really well while even improving a few things. Definitely one of my favorite jason films
The burning sleeping bag kill is a lot more impressive know the stunt actor had to fall out practically on top of the fire. Definitely one of the most brutal.
My only issue was him keeping the girl a captive. Too many friends think he was raping her and Jason doesn't do a few things. He's not a sexual villain, he doesn't hurt animals, he doesn't go after kids/people he see being bullied to the same degree as himself. I wish it was clearer he was keeping her as a mom.
7:09 hearing him say "yapping" in a movie made in 2009 is like hearing somebody say "among us" before 2020. like i know the term existed back then but it's so strange considering how commonly that's used as internet slang nowadays
Listening to the recounts are very refreshing, and just reminds me of how much James's shelf, mood and energy has changed. It feels great, and there is no other way to express it.
Honestly, I always hear bad about this film, but I’ll say this bravely- it’s actually my favorite! I’d say it’s the most brutal Jason has been and truly shows Him as this blinded by rage doom slayer like killer he is
I feel like “say hi to mommy” in a menacing snarl and then shoving his head into the woodchipper would have been perfect. The actress knew it wasn’t quite right and I wish they’d listened to her
You can’t lie this has to be one of the best remakes ever, apart from the bad stuff, you actually see the love the movie got, from the cast to the overall production, too bad it didn’t get a great story, still a good movie
It’s definitely one of the best remakes because it has a purpose for existing and it’s actually good at what it is, respects the OG and makes something new like Evil dead, Texas chainsaw and Halloween
It also changed things from the original in ways that benefitted. Like Jason being a survivalist with a tunnel system, traps and malice behind every kill. Jason in past movies was like a tank, slow and almost clumsy but impenetrable and powerful. In this he was fast, smart, and brutal. It’s definitely one of the best horror remakes
Man, I'm sorry to hear people don't want more of these. I've loved them and would like to see an Elm Street recount someday. Thanks to you all for all the work putting these together.
You've honestly made me rethink the reboot. Having gone through your body counts of all the original Fridays, I understand better all the references they made. I hated this movie because every single character screamed "oh will somebody PLEASE come kill me?" and I thought horror could do better. That really is just Friday. Plus, the running Jason honestly does add a serious element of terror to scenes; like, this is Jason with aggression, not just his usual "Oh, you're here? Guess you're gonna die now" passive murdering. You've really opened my eyes to so many elements of horror I never knew about. Major props, man!
Y'know, the thing I love the most about *The Numbers* is the fact that the editors (I'm assuming) make little individual stick figures for each kill. Like each one represents a different kill. Like the one of the sleeping bag over the fire hanging upside down in this *The Numbers.* I always love it when there's neat little Easter eggs like that in things.
Yeah it made sense that Jason and Jared Padalecki's character would have an even fight. Jared is 6'4" 220lbs and lifts weights. He is a huge dude and around the same size as the 6'5" 220lbs Derek Mears. Plus this Jason didn't have super strength like most of the others. He was just a big athletic guy and wouldn't have an advantage against someone his size and strength.
And I get the feeling Jason could have been beaten by a professional wrestler or mma fighter which is why I like this Jason, he is not some super natural unstoppable force
I had never seen this film until after watching this video. Most of them had got too cheesy but the serious tone fits the character and heart of the series imo. Thanks for the vid James! Great work.
I saw this in theaters and it was a really great time. Everyone was really into it. I remember people loved Chewy and were bummed about his death cause he was so funny. The theater cheered and clapped when Lawrence got those hits on Jason with the fire poker. Lol
Fun fact: Pamela Voorhees is portrayed in the remake by Nana Visitor, who some Trekkies might recognize as Kira Nerys from Deep Space Nine. Always fun to see some Star Trek cast members now that I'm starting to watch the series.
@@screwtapee it comes out in January and he originally planned to cover them in December but decided not to because he just finished the recounts for Friday the 13th
No matter what other comments say, I want to stress that I really enjoyed your recount series and I absolutely respect and appreciate all the work and efforts you and your editors spend into it.
I love how James just drops all these facts about these movies as he talks about what is going on. Most of us come for the kills but we stay because of little things like that.
That running machete kill is so good in my opinion. For whatever reason running horror terrifies me more than jumpscares or even suspense, and it was at such a pace that wasn't too fast or too slow
I’m glad you decided to redo the Friday Series. At first I thought it would be a waste of time seeing you do a series you had already covered, but it was nice seeing what went on behind the scenes and you not speed reading your lines. Thank you James, and I hope we get another recount someday.
That's why he did it. To give a more up-to-date and improved version of the older videos based on the criteria he uses now instead of way back in the early days.
It’s a great reboot that’s literally 1-4. A solid flick with vicious kills. IMHO, does the franchise proud, especially the sack head look (which is scary AF)
i think that’s bc of the lawsuit shit unfortunately bc i feel a second movie would’ve been so dope with scary jason. i just pray they don’t do a 50 years sequel like with halloween bc while there are a few memorable people i just don’t think jason holds grudges like that so i hope if they do it again it’s something new with a jason like this movies
@@tysonbracey3077 it’s funny In the 2018 Halloween film the entire premise is about Michael getting revenge on Laurie but yet in Halloween kills it sequel it makes it clear that Michael didn’t give a single crap about Laurie so apparently Michael doesn’t hold a grudge either
@@tysonbracey3077 it's going to be interesting to what happens considering the next film will be the 13th Friday the 13th film (the original ten, Freddy vs Jason, & the reboot make 12). So that could mean we get a celebration type film that does look back on the original franchise, but I feel like their only two films that should be made: a sequel to this reboot/a return of this type of Jason OR make it a Tommy Jarvis film similar to the Don't Hike Shorts. Sure, Jason doesn't hold grudges but Tommy absolutely does and seeing that collision would be excellent for another run
What? No, he clearly explained how he was able to pop out of nowhere, the tunnel system was why he could look like he teleported, this jason is not supernatural at all, making this Jason the scariest of the franchise
It's always so refreshing, to see that more often than not, the actors who play the killers I'm horror films, are really sweet, caring and humble people.
Seeing that mountain of a man actually RUNNING at you would be terrifying itself. Now, imagine that wall of meat swinging what is basically a 2 foot scalpel around while hunting you. Jason is truly at his deadliest here.
I actually found Mike’s death to be easily the scariest scene in this film. It’s not always about gore and “cool” kills. His death was frightening as he cried for help and told his girlfriend to run knowing he was going down
agreed! his death will always scare the SHIT outta me. The way jason stabs through the floor peircing his skin before grabbing and dragging him into his tunnel… I cant even imagine how horrifying that would be in real life
"Jason and Optimus Prime share the same universe?" Well to be fair, he did murder Arcee's VA Susan Blu in part 7 and Optimus Primal's VA Garry Chalk was in FvJ meaning Optimus Prime, Jason and Freddy are connected! They were ahead of the crossover game lol
@David Rocha uhhh with what f@@@ imaginary strength or battle strategy or even the fact primes about 35ft Tall with eons of experience in battle...Jason would be doomed. Energon can kill a human dead or not. One shot and he becomes mush
@@Silver_wind_1987_ Huge Transformers nerd here. To be fair, normal Energon can screw with human nervous systems. Which would really be a pain in the ass for Jason. Now, Dark Energon on the other hand? THAT could prove fatal.
I actually liked Jenna not acknowledging her bf cheating bc how many times have you watched a movie where they argue or get distracted and we go "really, right now??" It makes more sense to me that in her panic she wouldn't have a moment to process the obvious of what he was doing. It's at least the reaction you'd hope from someone trying to save their and their friends' lives.
I love Friday the 13th. I'm not sure why but Jason always seems cool to me. He was and still is my favorite horror movie slasher/killer. I remember being very excited when the remake came out and I really enjoyed it. It was terrifying to see Jason set traps,be smart and RUN. Sad that the reboot not got a sequeal.

It's crazy they called this a remake when it came out, it's basically another sequel, could fit in between 3 and 4 if they want or after Part 8 and before Part 9, or sometime before Jason X
I suppose they wanted to rework Jason, like adding a sprint butten for him.
Id love a Superman evoultion from you Tell It
They clearly wanted to do a different version of Jason
This is a reboot, really one of the few reboots to ever happen with an established horror franchise.
Why haven't you done Superman yet guys?
This “reboot” had so much potential. Jason’s character as a living Jason was interesting considering his size and hunting abilities and the way he runs on screen
@Jinkou Man Yes
@Jinkou Man scary as shit right 😂
@Jinkou Man yeah. In other movies be either fast walks or miraculously appears wherever he needs to be
“Are you looking for this? It uh…completes your outfit.”
I love this line. This movie bounces back and forth between dumb bro humour, and genuinely funny one-liners.

@@amityislandchumBut the remake feels very real, and Jason actually uses his brain.
Especially one that thinks and plans ahead
This version of Jason is my favorite because he’s absolutely terrifying. You can totally buy how menacing he is because of how smart and sadistic his methods are. Also, it’s scary as hell when he sprints after the characters.
Imagine how absolutely terrifying he'd be as Uber Jason.
I like FvJ Jason more, but this is a CLOSE second, I just love him
My favorite Jason is the one with the telekinetic girl.

Not right away, maybe sometime in the future
How about an updated ranking on the kills?
Yes.... This ^
Agreed!!! I loved the recounts and would equally love a re rank!!!!
I do think we would like to see his new and improved ranking, he said that his favorites or top three are the remake, part 6 and part 5, he said that the first one is the worst one but honestly I think he changed his mind in part 8 kill count I think part 8 is his least favorite of the bunch and the the first is second to last
This jason is essentially a brick house running right at you with a machete and the sound design just adds to it. My favorite version by far.

Well he wouldn't have survived being stabbed in the chest with a machete so not that realistic
I mean -- He was human up until he was consequently resurrected in the other films.
PS - I feel that Jason calmly walking, with malicious intent, is more intimidating than him hauling ass, as it shows he is calm, collected, and determined.
I couldn’t disagree more lol
@@itsinugami I definitely think there is a place for both. The slow walk is scary after because you know there’s no emotion in the man, the full blown sprint to me is just fucking crazy, if I seen a big ass dude in a ski mask running at me id be frightened for sure, I feel like the sprint is more scary in a real world setting I guess
@@itsinugami I wouldn't say calm or collected. He's very clearly filled with rage. That's what makes the power walk scary. His hulking, lumbering frame is approaching with a silent anger that just radiates from him
Him sprinting makes the rage more suffocating, in my opinion

Really loved the sarcastic as all hell, “Not supernatural in the slightest” whilst showing a freshly teleported, roof Jason.
What? No, he clearly explained how he was able to pop out of nowhere, the tunnel system was why he could look like he teleported, this jason is not supernatural at all, making this Jason the scariest of the franchise
@@miketrapper0464 it's kinda like Rob's Michael Myers because whole point of that remake was to make Michael as human as possible.

I honestly think this movie is pretty good, and way better than it deserves to be, being a reboot of course
@Bhavya Gala what
Well, I think this movie is shit.
It's really good compared to most Friday movies, Apart from the arrow in the head since it's the lamest most unbelievable part of any movie.
Eh, it's alright. I just don't care for reboots that aren't necessary and don't have original ideas.
@Bhavya Gala the hell you saying dude
It's always so refreshing, to see that more often than not, the actors who play the killers I'm horror films, are really sweet, caring and humble people.
Unpopular opinion: this is the best Friday the 13th movie hands down.
Seeing that mountain of a man actually RUNNING at you would be terrifying itself. Now, imagine that wall of meat swinging what is basically a 2 foot scalpel around while hunting you. Jason is truly at his deadliest here.

Can't believe she's gone in a flash like that.
James with his references, holy god dayummm.
Bruh this movie making nnn hard lmao

I actually found Mike’s death to be easily the scariest scene in this film. It’s not always about gore and “cool” kills. His death was frightening as he cried for help and told his girlfriend to run knowing he was going down
That last stab he did to mike looked pretty gory I jumped when I seen that
agreed it is terrifying kill.
agreed! his death will always scare the SHIT outta me. The way jason stabs through the floor peircing his skin before grabbing and dragging him into his tunnel… I cant even imagine how horrifying that would be in real life
"Jason and Optimus Prime share the same universe?"
Well to be fair, he did murder Arcee's VA Susan Blu in part 7 and Optimus Primal's VA Garry Chalk was in FvJ meaning Optimus Prime, Jason and Freddy are connected!
They were ahead of the crossover game lol
Prime would absolutely destroy Jason...one energon shot and night night J man
@@Silver_wind_1987_ but jason can lift optimus prime and throw him like a tennis ball lol
@@TheGrimoiresVoice it can dissolve his entire body within minutes...
“Can’t believe she’s gone in a *flash* like that”
James sometimes ur comedy is annoyingly good
Don’t know why I thought I was the only one who got that
@@thatonedarkguy1255 Could you explain it to me? I have absolutely no idea what the joke is.😅😅😅😅😅😅

So glad to see this film getting the respect it deserves, particularly its Jason. Derek Mears absolutely nails it.
