    Up until the early 2000s, most people names were listed in a phone book, and you'd get an updated phone book every year. The yellow pages were for businesses, and the white pages in the first half of the book were for residential numbers. Thats how the kids were able to call their teacher.

    • @harish123az
      @harish123az 6 месяцев назад +35

      And the teacher was so cool he would have shared his phone number with them, they didnt need the yellow pages.

    Fans were upset about Barb's death and "Justice for Barb" started trending everywhere. It's absolute magic when the whole squad works together. The Duffer brothers are really clever. There isn't a character or storyline that's arbitrary. It's awesome when a detail from season 1 or 2 is explained or further explored in season 3 or 4.

    The scenes with Joyce and El always get to me, especially the scene in the pool. Eleven never had someone give her that comfort and support during those stressful moments and Joyce just knows exactly what to do as a mother who loves her own kids more than anything.

    • @jerodast
      @jerodast 6 месяцев назад +2

      Joyce / Winona Ryder is really amazing. This whole season you know she is the most passionate mother Will could possibly have, she has not stopped. But now, right after she hears Will for the first time since he disappeared, and him telling her to hurry...she takes a moment to hug and comfort Eleven. You might've thought she wouldn't have time for anything but new panic about Will, but her care extends not just to her own son but to this girl with nobody to give her that care also.

    24:14 - "How can he just disappear like that? This is what I don't get with this." - The Upsidedown is a real, physical place, but a different dimension. In order to pass between the normal world and the Upsidedown, you need some kind of a portal/gate. Will and Barb were pulled through one by the monster. Nancy passed through one in the tree. When Eleven is in the pool, only her mind is in the Upsidedown. Everything that she sees is a mental image, which is why it can just disappear. It's like getting disconnected on call, one second you're talking to someone, and the next, the line goes dead.
    26:00 - "I feel like Barb should have got more focus there." - When this season aired, there was a social media theme called "Justice for Barb." People DID notice how the character got short-changed.

  • @cobrian45
    @cobrian45 6 месяцев назад +29

    Will doesn't disappear, it's more like she loses the connection. She's not there, it's her abilities allowing her to mentally be in the between worlds. When something interferes or she loses connection or is interrupted, she loses it and it looks like the people disappear.

    Hannah it’s funny you say about students calling their teachers at night and that it doesn’t happen. I’m a teacher and these days a lot of the educational institutions use online platforms like Microsoft Teams etc. So in fact my students think they can message and call me with questions 24/7. 😂😂 I’ve had to turn notifications off outside of working hours. I keep telling them “in the 90’s and 2000’s I’d have to wait until Monday! So do you!” 😂

    The moment with Joyce and El is emotional because it is the first time in her life that El has any agency over her body. She is willingly doing something that scares her and Joyce respects that it is her choice and even gives her an out if she wants to quit partway through. No adult has ever treated that poor baby with that respect before. *And you said nearly the same thing I wrote the moment I unpaused the video. Great minds think alike I guess. :)

    I think as Joyce is talking to Eleven, she's also telling her not to risk her own life.

    I know part of why Barb's death upset you so much - it's because this show knows how to make you care about the characters, and feel like they're real people. You can relate to them, they feel like they could be people you know in real life, they could be your friends if you lived in that place and time.
    Even in other successful shows like Game of Thrones, you don't quite feel that. It had shocking moments, but the characters don't feel like real people the way they do in this show.

    Of course Steve is defending Nancy. He’s a teenage boy who had his ego bruised and lashed out - but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care for Nancy still. I’m not defending his actions because he was wrong. But I don’t understand the surprise that he actually cares about her after 2 days of a breakup. He’s also not a bad guy.

    I agree about the appology thing. There is not a lot that someone can do in which an apology will not fix for me. In fact, I will forgive basically anything as holding a grudge does me absolutely no favors. If a person keep's doing wrong, I may have to change how my relationship with them is, but I can still forgive them. We all fuck up!
