    They did a recent interview with the girl who played the ginger from district 5 and she said she believes that the girl killed herself on purpose because she knew she wasn’t gonna be surviving till the end, and since she was so knowledgeable and of her surrounding, she took the night lock as an easy way out of dying a horrible death
    Edit- update just so everyone knows since it seems to be upsetting people that I said this this is just a different perspective to the novel and series on the character of Fox face by the actress who played her. it’s not fact to the series just a different way to look at the character. I wasn’t trying to upset anyone by putting this out. I just thought it was a cool perspective

    • @judaychop
      @judaychop 8 месяцев назад +95

      You may just be giving a fun piece of info about the actors thoughts and know all about the books but just in case you didnt know, it was an accident. She spent the games hiding and sneakily stealing food and supplies from the big group that got their stuff blown up, just enough to eat, not enough to get noticed, after the stuff got blown up she went to stealing little bits from Katniss and Peeta, she assumed the berries were fine because Peeta was gathering them to eat.

      Yeh all respect to the actress, but in the book it’s clear it was an accident. She was emaciated by the time she ate those berries and deemed them safe cos Peeta picked them up, and clearly was desperate. In the book she had no knowledge of foraging, she relied on stealing from other tributes.
      So yeh people have made theories about fox face killing herself on purpose but it’s just not true according to the book which is canon.

    A bit of context, Snow saw the two winners as an act of defiance. In Haymitch’s game he also ‘defied’ the game by finding a flaw in the system and for that they killed his whole family and his girlfriend so yeah the capitol could definitely make Katniss and Peeta pay if it wasn’t because their families were so important to the people in the Capitol

    • @AnxietyRat

      @@AnxietyRatexactly right, it’s a thing done at funerals in District 12

    • @rbrtck
      @rbrtck 6 месяцев назад +5

      The meaning of this gesture evolved over time. The original meaning was a farewell, which is why it was and is done at funerals. In this movie, they're saying goodbye to Katniss, but in a way that sure feels like it shows her the utmost respect for her selfless sacrifice. Because most everyone is aware of this stuff going on, it evolved into a symbol of respect and honor. Then I think it became more like a salute, and ultimately a symbol of resistance, rebellion, and freedom.
      The same thing, pretty much, happened with the mockingjay symbol. Cinna might have thought he was being at least somewhat subtle with her transforming mockingjay wedding dress, as he usually was, but it wasn't subtle enough, so Snow had him put to death. He saw what the intention was, and indeed, the mockingjay would be fully adopted as a symbol of freedom, with Katniss herself as the living embodiment of this symbol, based on one of her main character traits: angry, indignant, righteous defiance. Fortunately there were others to handle the more nuanced planning and scheming. 😉

    I just want to say that Peeta is my favorite character, noble, loyal, intelligent, selfless, talented, charismatic and very physically strong, thanks to him Katniss survived on many occasions, he always risked his life for her and he was her emotional support that helped her get out of depression after the first games, unfortunately the movies don't do justice to him or his relationship with Katniss, who always preferred him, she never felt for Gale what she felt for Peeta, but she didn't want to admit that she was deeply in love with him.

    • @suvijii841
      @suvijii841 8 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, I haven't read the books but the movie romance between Peeta and Katniss feels very forced. There's more chemistry between Gale and Katniss, and it may very well be because of what happened IRL between them.

    • @LA_HA

      @@suvijii841 Or, she knew her feelings were due to their situation. It's a near certainty that in general, all things being equal, people who go through a dangerous situation together develop strong, deep feelings for one another.
      For those of the same sex, a deep bonded friendship resembling brother/sisterhood develops. Ask soldiers and frat brothers.
      People of different sexes fall in love. The difference is, the couple don't always stay together, statistically, because the intensity of the situation that brought them together soon fades from memory, and with it, their emotional attachment to the other person.
      For fun examples, watch Romancing The Stone starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner or the classic movie, The African Queen with Humphrey "Bogie" Bogart and Katherine Hepburn

    The reason they stopped them from killing themselves at the end of the game was not because of the love story, it was because they need a winner. Powerful people in the capital bet on their favorites, there is a lot of money going around in the background. That is also why there are sponsors. If you have bet on someone you probably will try to help them win, if u have the means to send them some help. So not having a winner because of a rule change the game maker decided out of the blue would probably cause a riot among the “investors” :)

    • @BK-eo5bb
      @BK-eo5bb 6 месяцев назад +1

      No, it was because of the love story. Seneca Crane knew how popular the couple was, and if they had turned on each other and tried to kill each other, then their fans would have accepted that they weren't really in love and were just venal. But because Katniss got the idea to have both of them kill themselves instead, Seneca panicked. But President Snow was furious at Seneca's decision, which is why he ordered Seneca to kill himself.
      The betting is not important to this. Most bettors lose anyway. If there is no victor, the house wins everything.

    In the books, the mutts (dog-like creatures) the game makers sent into the games were engineered from the bodies of the fallen tributes. The book is all from Katniss' point of view, so the movie adds scenes outside her perspective. She's in the arena for close to two weeks, and they reduced the amount of time she spends with both Rue and Peeta in the movie. After she places the flowers on Rue's body, she received a gift of bread from Rue's district 11. You definitely get more development of their relationship in the book.
    Katniss loses her hearing in one of her ears from the explosion, but has her hearing repaired after the games by the Capital. Peeta actually has to have his leg amputated after Katniss places a tourniquet to keep him from bleeding out. He is given a prosthetic by the Capital after the games, but this only happened in the book.
    The Mockingjay pin was given to her by her friend from school, Madge, as her token. It had previously been worn by Madge's aunt in the 50th Hunger Games, which Haymitch won. None of the backstory about the pin is in the movies, and it kind of bothers me she just grabs it out of a bin in the black market in the movie.
    District 12 has been mostly ignored by the military Peacekeepers. Most other districts have much stricter monitoring to help stop any potential rebellion. The districts also cannot contact each other, basically the only time there is much contact between the districts is during the Hunger Games. Viewing the games is mandatory, unless you are close to dying, but anyone who doesn't watch is arrested. Sponsor gifts also increase in price the farther you are into the game, and medicine would cost more than bread.

    Helpful details from the books :
    1. Peeta burnt the loaves of bread on purpose to give them to Katniss when they were 11 yo (the movie didn’t cast younger version of them, it looks like it happened recently) and got beaten by his mom for it. He knew she was near dying from starvation. Katniss started hunting in the woods after his help coz she realized there’s hope.
    2. Katniss’ mom went depressed and checked out mentally so Katniss was basically Prim’s only parent since their dad died when Katniss was 11. Her whole life since then revolve around survival especially Prim’s. The other aspects of her life were on pause or completely neglected. Her going outside the district fence is a crime punishable by death but her regular customers from her hunting was their peacekeepers that frequent their black market where she trades. Gale is her hunting partner and best friend that she met in the woods when she’s 12 and he’s 14.
    3. The Capitol have tessera system where they’re given a year’s *meagre* supply of oil and grain for each family member but in return, the child (age 12 to 18) taking it will include their name in the hunger games x the number of family member. In Katniss’ situation, at sixteen, she had her name in 20x coz she took for Prim and their mom too. This system increases the chance of the weak and in need being reaped.
    4. Peeta’s leg was amputated in the book because Katniss used tourniquet to stop his leg from bleeding out after being mauled by the mutations at the finale. This is an important detail that the movies opt to not include.
    5. Haymitch won the second Quarter Quell where they reaped twice the amount of tributes (48 instead of 24), outsmarted the game like Katniss did and that had his entire family eliminated because of it. Haymitch telling Katniss that she’s in trouble was based on experience. Then he was required to mentor kids every year just to be slaughtered in the games coz they’re almost always malnourished and weak.

    The reason Katniss didn’t go for the bow and arrows is that she was specifically warned by Haymitch that it was a trap. It was placed in the center of all the gear as a deliberate attempt to lure Katniss into the slaughter grounds. Haymitch had guessed (correctly) that Katniss had already made too big of a wave throughout the country with her actions and was standing out too much over the other tributes. Her growing likability was also perceived as a threat by the authorities.
    Katniss volunteering as tribute to save her sister was also viewed as the first of many acts of defiance against the system because she was going against the established order. So the powers that be wanted her gone as soon as possible, preferably in the first few minutes of the games.
    Thankfully for Katniss, she took Haymitch’s warning seriously.

    One quick note. It's not that Katniss always misses the first one. It's thag both times she was shooting with an unfamiliar bow. Each bow (and even the arrows) has slight differences in shape and weight. The strings can be slightly different. So when you are using a new bow, it takes a shot or twonto learn how much force you need to get an accurate shot. That's why she was incredibly accurate with her own bow but needed one shot to get used to the other two.

    Hamish might very well be one of the most tragic people of this franchise. Not only has he been through the hunger games himself, killed people and likely was also nearly killed by other he’s also the only living winner of his district. Obviously no other contestants of the hunger games from 12 are alive and the winners that 12 had before hamish are also dead now. So ever since his victory, which I believe was the 50th anniversary of the games he had to mentor two young people from his own district. Since every year the two contestants get a mentor who won the games for their district before and he is the only living candidate for that job. Imagine training, bonding with two young adults or even children every year for 25 years only for them to die in the most cruel ways possible right before your eyes and before the eyes of millions and then the capitol and richer districts even celebrating their deaths as a sport. I’d know for sure I’d turn to worse things than drinking after all that.

    It's something I think the first movie did pretty bad. Katniss is not liked by the jurors or the public without Peeta (they don't hate her, but she doesn't stand out at all, despite what she did for Prim). The jurors hate her because she's rebellious and deemed "dangerous" (like in the books, Seneca Crane, the master of the games, the one with the weird beard didn't need Snow to tell him that Katniss what dangerous, he knew it, they all knew it), which is why she got a 12 at her evaluation, it was to put a target on her, when it came to the other tributes, especially the Career ones (you know, the ones they show being "more dangerous" and vicious than others). When it comes to the public, Katniss is not more liked than any other by them. They're flippant, shallow people who don't see these kids as human beings, rather as products of entertainment. Sure they go "aweeee" when Katniss talks about Prim, but Katniss is so incapable of having a connection (or pretending to) with these people that she can't reach them. She doesn't understand them, heck, she hates them. And Peeta bridges that to make her, as Haymitch says in the movie, more humane and desirable to the audience, which she had not managed to do in the books. My opinion is that the first movie tried to push Katniss into this "heroin" type of caricature, like she needs no one, but that was important in the book: she needed every. single. person who helped her. She needed Haymitch, she needed Effie, she needed Peeta, she needed Cinna (Lenny Kravitz). Katniss not being able to grapple everything that is happening in the Capitol is pivotal to giving the story the weight it has in the books. And in that manner, Peeta isn't just the boy being saved by her, he's much more calculating and smart, and is actually the charismatic, charming one of their duo.
    But something the movies doesn't touch upon at all, is WHY by themselves, Katniss and Peeta don't stand out to the crowd. They're from District 12, basically the poorest, most unconsidered District of them all. No one from District 12, aside from Haymitch, ever won the Hunger Games, in 74 years time. They're like figurants. Which was what Katniss and Peeta were considered like, until they managed to build this story that Peeta initiated about their love etc. And here, Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) helped a lot as well, by making Katniss stand out more from the crowd of tributes ever since minute 1 when they entered the parade up in their flaming costumes.

    Long comment, grab your popcorn lol
    Districts: 1 through 12, the closer you are to 1, the richer you tend to be. The richest people live in the capitol, that's why they are dressed like they are backup dancers for Cher. 12 as you saw is the poorest of them all, Katniss tries her best to hunt animals to exchange for other things her household lacks, such as yarn, fabric, etc. She also didn't wanna eat her cat because she was that hungry, that was her sister's pet and she disliked that cat a lot, the cat did too hence the hissing whenever they crossed paths.
    Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss and Peeta's mentor is a perfect reflection of how the Hunger Games and constantly living in the shadow of the capitol, have shaped him into a stuck-up drunkhard. He is also the first one to believe in Katniss and her way of dealing with things, even though the two didn't have the best start when they met.
    Katniss volunteering for her sister is a HUGE deal, they haven't had anyone who did this in a long time and that automatically puts a target on her back when it comes to other tributes, especially the careers from districts 1 and 2. It is because she is a volunteer from a no-good district, it's all about power tripping and ego boost for the careers so Katniss, to them, doesn't fit the role.
    Rue's death was another very important part of Katniss' development. The moment she became friends with her she showed her humanity and compassion to the world, especially District 11 (Rue's district). Katniss gave District 11's people the ammunition they needed to defy the capitol and retaliate because Rue's death wasn't justified in their eyes. Moreover, because she was so kind to Rue, Rue's district partner, Thresh, saved Katniss from Clove (The Orphan girl) and gave her the ability to save Peeta as well.

    Love you guys and your reactions. Some things in the books that you missed to help explain:
    Katniss is one of the only persons in District 12 that can hunt cuz her dad taught her, so she isnt as malnourished as most kids in 12. Peeta burned bread on purpose in order to throw it out and give Katniss food when she thought she would starve to death. She was the first EVER person in 12 to volunteer for the games because its a death wish but she loves her sister and sees her in Rue. People from District 1 & 2 usually volunteer because they get training and notoriety if they win. Whatever tribute wins, their whole district gets rewards such as food. Capitol people don’t see the games as cruel, but as entertainment because they see districts as animals. In the books, the explosion w the apples actually causes Katniss to suffer partial deafness permanently and Peeta’s injury causes him to get prosthetic and have a slight limp. Katniss believes Peeta is putting on a show for the cameras the entire time, so at the end of the book she says she’s done with pretending and he gets upset because he thought it was real, but she was just trying to survive. Gayle is just a guy friend that helped her survive in 12, so don’t see this as a love triangle that a lot of people made it to be. The mutant dogs were supposed to look like all the kids that died in the arena. The rest of the movies will explain more about capitol mutants and the political repercussions that happens when they humiliated the capitol by almost unaliving themselves. You guys are right, Suzanne Collins said she was inspired by the gladiator games but imagined if it was kids. SO EXCITED TO SEE MORE, LOVE YALL!!
