Ash, as a Patreon subscriber, please don't do any of the other movies in the Saw franchise! Honestly, you're just going to be disappointed in ALL OF THEM compared to this one. The others are just gory, and no story. They try to fill in story but focus on the blood and guts and the actual reaction is not from the gore (besides the gagging) but the entire story itself. I can say the others aren't ANYWHERE CLOSE to what this movie is. I'm telling you, as a major cinema fan, don't waste your time and ours on the next 15 movies they made.

This was a rollercoaster of a commentary. Starts with Ash laughing at Hannah's gagging, which then causes him to start gagging, and then Hannah rips a random fart shortly after that lmao. Best commentary duo on YT by far.

I saw this in the theater when it came out. Packed house. When that final scene played out, and he rose from the floor, every single person let out a huge noise, and a few “oh my god”s and “holy shit”s. It got us all. EVERY SINGLE ONE. It was a physical shift in the theater, a collective shock totally in the moment. And that’s the true brilliance of this film, even all these years later. In a genre where almost everything has been done before, where most every twist you can see coming from a mile away, you never see this one coming. In my opinion, it sets itself apart from a lot of horror films. Later the SAW films in the series would become done to death, not very original, and simply a gore fest; gone is the impressively written and acted, measured and purposeful brutality, slow burn with an insane and suspenseful ending, originality of this film. But this first SAW film, the sheer brilliance of this first SAW film, endures; and the twist in it can never be duplicated to the same effect again. In those ways, it stands alone. Even and especially amongst its own later sequels.
Not a massive horror fan but been watching a lot of clips and story telling. From what I've seen a lot of people really enjoy the later films and the story it really depends how you see as overs see things different.

You are absolutely crazy if you think the 2nd is better than the first! Not only the 2nd, but the rest of the franchise is just trying to recreate the magic of the first one with higher stakes! I'm sorry but all 4,000 sequels are just trying to get the acclaim the first one had. Which they NEVER GOT. Ash, please don't waste your time and ours by going thru the rest of the franchise! And if you do, I CAN'T WAIT until I hear the words "it was good, but the first was just BETTER". Ya, something TERRIBLE!! The beauty of this movie is the subtle elements of surprise mixed with the gore. All the 13 sequels are just garbage gore with 1% actual story. This movie was fantastic but all the others just go for shock and gore rather than blending story and gore. I'm telling you right now, you won't get the same reaction out of these 2 from ANY OF THE OTHER MOVIES than you got from this one. Keep it at the original Saw and move on.

The original "Saw" is an absolute masterpiece. The film revived the horror genre just as "Scream" did. Totally launching the careers of James Wan and Leigh Whannell, which was rightfully so!
Saw also has one of the most epic horror soundtracks I've ever heard. It sounds way more badass than scary in my opinion.
Also, that twist ending is really what seals this film as an all time classic in the horror genre. Nobody can ever say they saw it coming.
Scream wasn’t a horror movie, it was a satire movie about horror movies.
Scream was and will always be a damn joke for teenagers.
Agree, the rest just kept milking the success.
I hated most of the sequels until I rewatched, they're not great but alot of them have great moments, I know most hate the last but I did enjoy some of the twist at the end, didn't see it coming but nothing beats this, 2 has a good story for most part, don't care for the game honestly, 3 was really well done the end I didn't expect to be how it was but none as good as this. The other ones had good moments at times like twists in some traps but it knew what it became a gore trap fest, I did think the wall twist was well done but can't say I cared for the gore but, it was a great ending nowhere near this though, the screaming into the credit s still is one of the greatest choices to end a film.
Though I will say the middle of this film drags to me after seeing it multiple times, but near the end makes up for it beyond even any doubt.
When Jigsaw gets up from the floor.. that’s so legendary. Such a great movie. I can’t believe it’s almost 20 years old now

The bright side about Ash breaking Hannahs earing like that, is, if he broke it that easy, it should be fairly easy to fix, it's likely a split ring or clasping type joint or a repairable (solder/laser-weld) type fix that any decent jeweller should be able to fix.

The killer rise at the end was mind-blowing. That movie is clever and gory. One of my all-time favorites.
The ending to this movie. Brillance. One of the best twists in horror. My mind was so focused on everything else that when that body moved, my jaw hit the floor. Very good but depressing ending. Poor Adam.

Apparently if you pay real close attention to the cancer patient in the hospital scene he has sketches/ blueprints for the reverse bear trap. They hid the killer in plain sight.

Fun fact: Adam is played by Saw's Co creator and Writer Leigh Whannel. Yep Leigh wrote the film knowing that he'd have to be chained up to a pipe and put his hand in a flithy toilet. If that is not deadication, I don't know what is.
The reveal of jigsaw at the end so freaking legendary. Never see it coming. I still remember watching this in theaters and everyone was so stunned and shocked.
And that is why none of the others can compare to this one.

Every Saw sequel has a surprise twist ending, it would be very interesting to see if Hannah can solve the mystery behind each film before the movie reveals it. The sequels all interconnect with each other in interesting ways, much more brutal traps lie ahead in the sequels too. I know I said this in another message, but please do reactions to all the Saw movies!

I always thought that he didn't actually need to cut his entire foot off. Actually could have gotten out of that chain just by cutting off his heel instead. Wouldn't have bled out as fast and might have been able to move quicker. But he was also in an irrational state of panic so there's that😅

This movie basically started the gore horror film craze. I'm not a fan of gore for the sake of gore but this film is a fun puzzle.
A fun and far less gory and nerve-wracking film is 13 Ghosts. I think you'd like that.
Two films no one mentions but are very cool horror films are The Tunnel (Australian film) and High Tension (French Film). I hate to see Hannah is distress though, so Blair Witch Project next please!

I am with you guys on this. I've seen this film long time ago, back in 00s when I was in school. Been kinda into horror stuff those days. And the first Saw literally set the level of this genre. It has a clear message, meaning if you say so, great story that truly keeps you connected with the characters and the ending, well you get it.
