With streaming and recording, partway through it can go out of sync. I've seen this happen on live streams and it can happen on local recordings too. It's messed... But it's happened to many other people so there should be support forums on how to troubleshoot it, if it happens again.
The shot with Dart at the end showed that he didn't run towards 11 and hopper when that thing called him. Instead he stayed where Dustin last saw him beside the the chocolate bar. It symbolizes Dart choosing them over the mind flayer, even if it was only this one time.
It doesn't make any sense though. They're supposed to be a hive mind controlled by the mind flayer. So Dart thinking for himself completely contradicts everything that was established earlier.

I just think Dart suddenly thinking for himself is silly and kind of downplays the threat of the mind flayer. These things have always been unthinking drones that can't be reasoned with and do the bidding of the mind flayer. If you're talking about Will, he isn't part of the hive mind he's just a host.
I cried over Dart. The hive mind means he is being told what to do but he was raised by Dustin, he was a conflicted little guy but he chose ❤️ or maybe just nougat 😂
It's strange how people are pretending a plot hole is character development. A hive mind is a collective consciousness. Dart and the mind flayer are the exact same entity as much as your fingers are part of you. They have the same thoughts and objectives. So the show is telling us the mind flayer allowed Dustin and his friends to live because he gave it nougat.

In that moment Eleven is about to close the gate and the demodogs are called in to attack/protect, I don’t believe the mind flayer allowed Dart to just stop for a little snack! Will had some time before the mind flayer completely took over, maybe Dart is the same, the hive mind slowly taking over as he grows. This also occurs with another character in the next season where we have a few moments to see that inner conflict. I could explain more, especially given the true nature of the mind flayer, but I don’t want to leave spoilers in Hannah’s comments.

So, I'm old. I'm 52. These kids are in the EXACT grade I was. And this dance at the end was exactly how it was back in the day. Cindi Lauper, Prince, The Police, etc... You were putting your LIFE on the line asking a girl to dance. While, obviously fiction, they portray this scene quite well. And ladies... have some empathy for a guy willing to man up and cold approach you. It's really really hard.
Me and my buddies would spend all dance in the corner building up the courage to ask a girl. And, when you finally did it was almost the last song so you kick yourself why you waited so long to ask. But, next dance you are right back in the corner with your buddies working through the nerves all over again.
i'm 32 and i remember middle school dances being like girls on one corner, men on the other and literally NO one danced together... maybe one couple if THAT it was so tragic lol high school not so much but i'm sure it's just as nerve-wracking
Honestly my advice to my nieces and every girl is exactly the opposite. I'll say it for any other girl that might be reading, ladies, "You don't have to be nice to men that creep you out!!!" So no, you don't dance with someone just because he "worked up the courage", you are not a "prize" he's won by doing the bare minimum. Sure, you CAN (not have to) be nice about it, in this show they were rude, but as a woman you have total rights to say no to someone you're not into, and girls often get into really dangerous situations because they keep being nice/polite. So as I told my niece, learn to say "No" when you want to say "No". All that girl had to say was, "Oh sorry, no, but thanks" and I can bet my left hand that many women would come here and say they've been even that nice about rejection and got attacked/hassled/harassed about it. So guys, show some empathy for girls having the right to be honest about what they want. It's really really hard for them to do that because it's often dangerous.

I believe he simply means to be kind with the rejection, that's all. And judging by your comment you understand that too. Back when I was in high school (approaching 20 years ago now) I remember one girl who mocked the absolute daylights out of me in front of a few people for expressing to her that I liked her, disgusted expression n'all. There was no need for it and it deeply hurt for a time. Sure, we were young and immature but 20 years on some "adults" (if you can call them that) haven't grown up and seem to think that acting this way is appropriate. Men want to find love just the same as all women - we just ask to be rejected kindly if the attraction doesn't go both ways. As for the men who think it's appropriate to attack/hassle/harass women who reject them, that's not a biological male trait that exists in all men. That one scene with Mike and Hopper .... Hopper knew Mike needed that. He was angry at him, and he kinda said "Okay, here we go, I gotta let this kid wail on me because if he doesn't he could take it out on someone else undeserving." And pretty soon, Mike gets tired, and breaks down, and eventually Hopper jsut holds him like a Dad would, in a way comforting him as if to say "I know what I did, Im sorry but it was necesarry for her safety." And Mike eventually gives up and cries. I love the way the scene is written and acted.
Ok Hannah we need to settle something: Don’t EVER be sorry for crying, specially for joy! We are so often ask to control our emotions and it shouldn’t be! In the Stranger Things graphic novel series we find out that Science teacher Scott Clarke and Bob Newby were very good friends back from when they founded Hawkins AV Club! Knowing that makes me kinda happy.
The end song, “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, was perfect because the lyrics are creepy when you realize it is more than obsession when the Mindflayer hovers and servalliance over the empty ballroom in the upside-down.
I have to question the humanity of someone who doesn't get choked up at the end. Steve has one of the best character arcs in the series. Without any spoilers, you are going to LOVE season 3. 💜Absolutely brilliant!

Apparently even the cameraman was in tears during the scene where Dustin couldn't get a dance 😢😢 I find that one sadly relatable. Considering that Nancy slammed her door in Dustin's face at the start of S1, it was so sweet how she made his night by dancing with him here ❤❤

They way Hopper handled the anger of Mike was what makes him one of the top 10 TV dads of all time.
Except they ruin it in season 3 or 4 by making him insufferable I forget which season.

I cried just as much as you did, both in terror and joy. I cried over Dart too. This ending is my favorite of all the seasons, that whole dance sequence. 🙌 And Steve and Dustin being BFF’s!!! I’m glad you get it.
