My husband and I watched the first episode the first night it dropped and were like WTF WOAH and binged the rest of it the next day. It is one of the only seasons my hubs will sit down to binge watch lol

The best summation of this first season I've heard was a review that says, "The kids think they're in a Steven Spielberg story, the teens think they're in a John Carpenter story, and the adults think they're in a Stephen King story."

“Was he just absorbed into the lightbulb or something?” is the wildest and funniest question I’ve ever heard. So glad this got recommended to me!
That's actually the word I would use to describe how this show did so well. "Natural". Every actor, especially the kids, make this show outrageously natural and authentic feeling.
You are going to love this , I was around these kids age and grew up around the same time period as the kids in the show and same geographical area the show nailed the look and feel of what kids were like back then and how the times were
I was exactly these kids' age in 1983 and grew up just a few of hours south of where this was filmed in Georgia. This is the closest thing to a time machine I've experienced.
I was between the younger kids age and the orders kids age back then. I was about a month from turning 15 at the time ep 1 takes place
The Duffer Brothers were amazing at getting the feel and vibe of that time period.
I was born in 1996 but even i am nostalgic for small town america in the eighties watching this 😄

So glad you're doing this series. This is absolutely my group of friends from my childhood. Group of nerds and outcasts who played D&D and got into silly trouble. Thankfully not the same kind these guys get into. I was born in 1970, so this timeframe is perfect nostalgia.

By the time you get to Episode 4, you will know this series is for you…and you’ll love most of the characters, especially Hopper.
This first season is much more legit horror than the rest, I found it actually quite scary! Granted I was on a solo vacation when this dropped and watched it in one night while staying alone in this old Victorian mansion haha
Season 4 is definitely the most horror ish of the seasons

I agree season 1 is more scary than 2 and 3 but I have to say season 4 is much more scary than the rest

Glad you were open minded about watching a show with Kid actors who as you saw just absolutely nailed it in this first episode and going forward this first season. They come off as REAL Kids. Millie Bobby Brown was absolutely phenomenal in this first season. So was Finn Wolfhard. I honestly think this might be the best editing for a reaction to Stranger Things that I've seen and I have watched a lot of reactions to this show cause it's one of if not my favorite show. "They've got a nice bond, I hope he looks after her" As soon as you said that I went awwww nooooo LOL
I love this show and so glad you're watching this! You can tell how much care they put into it. The authentic 80s feeling, props, music etc. The original story and actors are just 🤌 *chef's kiss*

I was very late discovering stranger things. I heard it centred around kids playing a dungeons and dragons style game, which didn't appeal to me. Then i heard it was set in the 80s, and my sense of nostalgia was interested as I was a child in the1980s, and I loved the music and culture of that time. Didn't take me long to get hooked. So lovely sharing your first impressions of this amazing show xx

I definitely wouldn't say it's a dark comedy but I agree with the rest. This show has effectively defined pop culture for the last 5-6 years. It replaced Game Of Thrones on that pedestal. Everyone's hair, clothes, music is directly influenced by this show , and we're still feeling those effects right now.

Lol when Mike was talking about Will having cast Fireball instead of Protection, he was just using that as a metaphore. Saying that Will could have played it safe to protect himself.. but instead he risked himself to help the rest of the party. Which is him saying they have to put their own fear aside and go try to find Will, as he would do the same for any of them!

So many easter eggs and ever so subtle nods to 70's and 80's film and television. Often just how they shot a scene or did a transition.
Like the paning shot in the kitchen, with the news on the little tv. It doesn't look like Doc Browns garage, but the way it feels and delivers info to the viewer does.
Great show, buckle in for a wild ride. And expect to have emotions too. Lots of emotions.
I have been watching you guys on Just Trust Ash do movie reactions for quite some time and I was aware that you had a channel doing Game of Thrones, but I never was interested in watching Game of Thrones. However, Stranger Things is one of the best shows ever created and one of my absolute favorites and so you, good lady, have gained a new viewer. 😀👍
I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST TV MYSTERIES IVE EVER WATCHED. And everyone experiencing it and unfolding the mystery around the same time was just something truly magical.
I will never forget discussing which episode you were on with friends and then discussing what you each thought about certain things and bits of the mystery unraveling.
Somewhere around episode 4-5 I vividly remember being the only one who hadn’t seen the rest of the series yet and everyone asking what I thought about a particular crazy strange thing that happened.

So excited for you Hannah, this is such a great show. I had the exact same reaction as you when the episode ended, I was watching it with a friend on some "Let's just see what this is about" and immediately when the episode finished we looked at each other and went "Well shit we might as well just see what happens next". Next thing either of us knew we were on episode 5 and it was 2:00 in the morning lmao.
This is such an amazing series probably one of my favorites and I love the 80's nostalgia, I was 13 in 1983 so I can so relate to everything! And I love how your so trying to fugure out what's going on, that was all of us when we started the series, just go with the confusion as it will all come together. I'm so excited to watch you watch this its gonna be a good ride!❤❤❤

I watched this when it first came out on Netflix before anyone really knew what it was. Same as you, hooked from the first episode. my husband & I binged the entire series in one day.
It really pops off Episode 3. I can remember watching Ep. 3 it was like 3am and I had to keep watching. I watched till like 5am. And finished the next day. Watching you brings back the same feelings of watching it the first time. Very cool!
It was one of those shows that captured the world really. ST S1 is phenomenal.

They filmed a good part of the last season in my hometown. The iconic house in the last season is/was a bed and breakfast. It was neat watching the car scenes while sitting downtown eating bbq and drinking margaritas lol! ❤
Also context on the ages of the characters - the older kids are 16-17, the younger kids are 12-13ish.

hopper was right about the questions though, he was trying to establish a motive and this is the early 80s during the aids crisis when a lot more people were homophobic out of fear out of ignorance and misinformation, so there was a lot more lgbt+ or at least gay hate crimes…
