      Why the do I have to pay a subscription for this? Couldn’t you just make it so we can outright purchase it? Not everyone can throw two hundred dollars into a fire pit. Your target audience once was everyone but now you’re focused on big companies. You’ve forgotten about who uses your software. Your business model is focused on big corporations and think that the common man can pay half a grand to use your software for two years.

    Metal Edge Wear generator problem: If anyone else is having trouble with the Metal Edge Wear generator not working (applying across entire mesh weakly instead of concentrating on edges), here's a fix that worked for me. Went to Texture Set Settings and noticed that I had warning icons on all the mesh maps baked during completion of the first video. "Missing High Definition Mesh," I think it said upon hover. Scrolled up to the High Definition Meshes field above, under "High Poly Parameters," and loaded the original FBX with the tiny document button at upper right of the field. Re-baked the selected textures and the Metal Edge Wear generator started working properly. So far so good? Hope that doesn't cause other problems?

    • @mzh99
      @mzh99 3 года назад +2

      It should be simple in any modeling program:
      1) Create a unique flat (lambert) shader for any parts that should share that material. For instance, all chrome parts share one and all brass parts share another. Expand this to all your different materials.
      2) Color each shader differently. In my example, chrome is flat red; brass is flat green.
      3) Export to .fbx or other format supported by SP.
      4) When you build your project and setup your new materials in SP, you can key off the colors (IDs).

Instead we try to make a whole new tutorial series every year.

      Keep in mind to make film, games or anything production ready you will need to learn both. Ive worked for several game companies using substance but there is a lot of times in production you need to make changes to materials without having to go all the way back to substance to do that. Say you take your substance materials and put them in a game engine and decide later you want to change the color of something, you can do that easily with nodes. Believe it or not blenders node setup is actually very easy and streamlined compared to methods of materials in the past lol

    How does Substance Painter know how to make the UV's? or does the geo have to already have proper UV's from the program that created it? Can you make a video on UV'ing?

    I'm working in the latest version of Substance Painter 9.1.2. Quite a few changes, so it is a bit confusing. Wondering about the "Plastic Glossy Pure" that was used for the first texture layer. It is not available in this version of Texture Painter. Would you recommend something else? Or can this texture be found on the website?

      Hi, I think they did remove the basic materials when they did a recent rework of the library. Those pure materials use uniform values. For Plastic Glossy, you can create a Fill layer and set metallic to zero and roughness closer to zero. In the properties panel, right-click and create a material preset.

    For some reason my ID map has lower resolution than the actual texture, i have 2k texture but when aplying material by ID map it seems pixelated on diagonals, like its 512x512

    So the .fbx comes into painter 2019 with only one texture set named 1001. It doesn't come in with a body and leg like in the video. I opened the fbx in max 2021 and the mesh is just a flat gray so i'd have to re make the vertex colors. Is this intentional? Want to make sure i dont have incorrect files

      Once you click on new project, under UDIMs option you have to uncheck 'Create a texture set per UDIM file'
      Now you should see the two categories for this object

    How does one output 1 texture set?
    If you have multiple texture sets, Painter outputs the same. Is there not a way to combine the end product into 1 set?
    There are UDIM tiles, but in my brief experimentation with them, going that route is less straightforward.
    I know there's a script for combining the texture output into 1 set, but so far I've not been able to make that work.

    I assigned a variety of material sets in Blender as to make texturing in Substance easier.
    Now when I load in the modell, the groups are messed up, with their Names being changed, aka Group 1 has become Group 2 while Group 2 has become Group 1.

    When I add several different materials to a mesh in Maya, each of those Materials imports into substance Painter as a separate Texture. You stated you added "Vertex Colours" and I am not sure what that is in Maya as the colors apply to mesh faces.

    Why did we bake textures as soon as we uploaded the model, we should bake textures once we are done texturing right?? What's the point of baking before texturing?

    • @Substance3D
      @Substance3D  3 года назад +2

      The textures you are baking at first are information you extract from your model (position, World space normals, etc...). These info are used to drive the filters and materials effects. If these maps are not provided, Painter does not know how to handle the effects

    Can someone please help me, I cant seem to find any help on this. - When importing my own models into SP, while I have the paint brush selected and have the full preview cursor setting on, with a layer selected I am unable to paint the default white or any other material from the Shelf on to the model. However, if I open up a pre-template model like ''MeetMat'' It allows me to paint normally.

    I don't understand if I have to create the uvs in Blender first or just mark the seams or nothing of that.
    I exported an fbx with the vertex paint done in Blender but when I bake the maps in Pt the maps doesn't look like the ones in your video at all.
