Back in the days i played Kyrandia on my 386DX (4MB, OAK VGA 512KB, Soundblaster 16, 1x speed CD-ROM ... what a monster! ^^).
I still own my orginal copy of Westwoods wonderfull adventure. The CD-ROM version is full toned! Wished 1000 times that Lucas Arts release Monkey Island 1 or 2 in a full talkie version too. But they never did. xD
Enjoy my little journey back into the golden times of adventure!
Lean back ... the wonderfull Legend of Kyrandia awaits you! -

as a kid i had no idea what to do in this game but i loved the atmosphere of the graphics and the music.
exactly.
there was a booklet that came with the game that you needed to get past a part

So much nostalgia watching this
i realize I'm kind of randomly asking but do anyone know a good site to stream new movies online ?
@James Major i watch on FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Benton Clayton Yea, have been watching on flixzone for since april myself :)
@Benton Clayton thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it!!
@James Major You are welcome xD
1:35 wow, i know this kind of thing is taken for granted these days, but this part is so well done, the way his arm is multilayered, and the way the focus changes. so cool.
Fun fact: Brandon is voiced by Joseph Kucan, the guy that played Kane in the C&C franchise
when I was young I can remember playing this game with my father all night :D I still have no idea what was so special about it but I will always remember the night we were playing this :D Now as I am watching this im just astonished how many things from this game are stucky in my head.. I will always remember this.. :D btw.: my father was so deep in this game he made the map of the whole cave with those fireberries ^^.. :D
My grandfather did the same thing.
// my father was so deep in this game he made the map of the whole cave with those fireberries ^^// More of us did. :D
I've got such an incredibly vague memory of my older brother and uncle playing this game i completely forgot about it, but when i did remember after watching some of the monkey island playthroughs on this channel and watched the play through of the second game i teared up.
We can never go back to those times, when we were more innocent and full of wonder. Things have been hard since then, but I'm so glad there are windows into the past so that even if for only a moment i can feel those things again.
Stay safe, it's crazy out there
Oh my god my dad had made a whole playthrough including a map of the cave. I remember playing it so often and it kind of still is with me nowadays, I miss playing it so much sometimes.
It was the only way we had to get around back then :)
What a nostalgic trip!
Rainy afternoons as a kid just kicked me in the face
When I was a kid, I used to keep asking Herman if he was done cutting the tree lol.
I remember my brother and I spent hours trying to navigate those caves with the fire berries. Every time we made it to a check point we would yell "YES!!!" haha.
Man, I was driving home from work last night and out of nowhere, this game randomly pops into my head. So I searched online for over two hours in hopes of something that would jog my memory some. I couldn't remember the name of it to save my life and so I went on a Classic MS-DOS page on Facebook and made a post about it. I described the part where you're in a cave and had to use fireberries to light up the place. A gentleman said it was this game, but I wasn't 100% sure that it was. So I watched this video and I was 50/50 on it until I saw the talking plant and when you use the flute to break the ice to enter the cave. Damn, 30+ years later and this game just pops up out of nowhere. Craziness.
I can't believe I've finally found it after all these years, I can finally walkthrough this!
just use google next time
I still remember the sound effects and the music so well :)
+Devorah Richman I loved it too so much...
Man that forest theme is an absolute tune.
Oh man when the drums kick in?! Ruddy sick bro
@@KILLFELIX Timbermist Forest - IMO the best song in this soundtrack.
А если съел яблоко, то заново надо начинать ? А то уже много прошёл …
i remember playing this back in the days with no worries and complete piece of mind now i am all grown up and don't play games.......man what i would do to be a kid again
I miss this genre... I miss it...
me too
my great uncle showed me this game when i was little and ive thought of him when i think of this game and vice versa for the rest of my life ☺️ he was the first person to ever stick me on front of a computer and say "hey you might want to check this out, pretty cool stuff."
I'll never forget playing Kyrandia, The Dig, One must Fall, Commander Keen and so many others on his computer in the summer. 👍
i had lost touch with him for a number of years, and he ended up being the first person i knew dying of covid.
RIP, Uncle Paul. I love you, man.
PS - thanks for posting this, 13 years ago! I can't believe i never thought to look for it here before ☺️
absofuckinglutely loved this game and took me almost 10 years to remember it's name lol...
"Your mother lives, for surely she has dressed you!"
Ohh you just got BURNED, Malcolm!
Back when games required specific sound drivers, my Mom and I spent days trying to get speech to work on Kyrandia by tinkering with settings. We would load it up and listen intently to this music and wait each second for the sound of Malcolm's laugh to let us know that we got it right! We were in tears by the time we heard the evil jester's cackle xD
OH YEAH AND NOW YOU'VE WALKED THROUGH THE CAVE FIVE TIMES: go back all the way across the island to pick up three specific gemstones out of the five thousand that are randomly lying around, which weren't there before, and with no hint as to which ones you need. Then walk through the cave again. This is sadistic.
I'm watching this like it's a movie. Relieving childhood!
This is very nostalgic to me. I used to play Kyrandia with my grandma, we played all three books. We'd played it on a old chunky white computer.
She died this evening from a flu. This piece of art will forever be a memory of her, as well as Egyptian Sinuhet and the pink lily, lilie zlatohlávek.
May you rest in peace
What a classic adventure that is ! I never played it back in the days, which is a shame...But watching it here is a treat, too. I just watched all the King´s Quest adventures (and played a few) on RUclips chronologically, which gave awesome nostalgia kicks :) It´s awesome to be able to have access to almost all games now ! I never would have dreamed of that to be possible in the future.
When I first saw the emerald chamber, I stayed there at least 10 minutes listening to the song and admiring the room. This guy just passed through like "meeh"
oh that cave was infuriating
I remember having to draw my own map for it. As a kid, it was so frickin hard.
VHS so did I
@@AsparagusVideo IT is even hard now
I had a guide book to help me through it, it was crazy hard without it
Watched from beginning to end. Thank you for taking the time to play and upload, it brought back a lot of memories.
Oh man, I remember this from back in the day! When I was a kid, that evil wizard/jester used to scare the shit out of me for some reason LOL! I remember we also made the stupid mistake of eating an apple, then saving the game, then realising a few minutes later the apple was poisoned, meaning the savegame was "killed" and all progress lost... Real life lessons!
I loved the Kyrandia games, half way between Sierra and Lucas Arts in terms of "screw you" decisions. But Kyrandia got away with it by having a great atmosphere and simple interface
Now this takes me back... the music in this game
48:41 - I wanted to reach through my screen and strangle him at that moment. I was stuck on that part of the game for DAYS, and this putz wastes a stone.
hahaha omg the voice of Brandon (Joseph D Kucan) was also KANE in Command and Conquer :)
I remember this game!!! I could never get past the caves (until I found out you needed to place the fireberries in the adjacent rooms in order to walk around without getting jumped on once it got dark, lol). Fun times playing it though.
:-)
OMG, I played this game over 20 years ago and completely forgot about it!!! Thanks for the memories.
Love this game
Oh man, tell me how I still remember most of the dialogue! Gotta love the music and sfx too. Thanks for putting this together. Lots of great memories.
I think the purple form negates the darkness (death...), as you shine with a dim purple light in the caves.
So when in purple globe form, you don't have to pick up fire-berries all the time, and can fly anywhere, no matter the darkness.
It sounds like there were a lot of Mr. Garrisons in this game. Great game and a classic.
Playing games like this when I was in my early teens was such a huge part of my childhood. My sister's, too -- I told her how I'd found the full Kyrandia game set on GOG, and she absolutely FREAKED. Like, bought it on the spot.
OMG my classmate in primary school had this on her dad's computer, who was a professional surfer and had enough money to own a computer!! This game seemed SOOOOOOO beautiful to me as a 10-year-old!!
For anyone who has ever played this game and feared the cave creatures, here is a hint: The Fire berries don't expire if you leave them in a room! So you can gather and leave them, and then walk freely! I learned this after many unseen maulings!
One of the most underrated and amazing old school point n clicks out there! Love it.
I absolutely love the Legend of Kyrandia series (the first being my favorite - I found Brandon's dialogue throughout the game to be so great!), although I feel like Legend of Kyrandia 2 was better designed (no mazes! Less random!) but Legend of Kyrandia 3... and the Cat Island is... a nightmare! I recently finished all three (long play and commentary) on my channel.
I wonder if WestWood's original idea for their fantasy RTS game (that turned into the sci-fi Command & Conquer) would've been based on the setting of Kyrandia. Already we have some WestWood icons like Joseph Kucan playing Brandon and Frank Klepacki making some astonishingly fitting fantasy music.
It's so great that you bring such a good game with your old 386DX!
One of the best things about video games back then is that you actually had to think and figure stuff out for yourself. No internet to turn to for any question you might have, and the games did not hold your hand. That type of challenge and immersion is dead forever.
+lking000 Can I get an amen?
+lking000 This game had too much immersion! And was so difficult. I remember having nightmares has a kid, imagining I was in this world, unable to escape Kyrandia and never knowing when the jester would come out and harass me.
yeah so much fun and scary
I was nine, when this game came out. I was really scared at night, that if I turn the lights down, then red eyed monsters gather and eat me, like they ate Brandon in the caves. So I didn't dare to sleep in the dark!
yah scary
i just stared at the screen in awe. So many memories.
yeah , a trip!
Loved this game, wish I could play it again, this is almost as good though thanks for the upload
you can! there is a way to do it through emulators
This game is such an EPIC! Just loved the music! Best click game ever:)
Wow, such good memories of this game. Thanks for the upload
"All sweat and muscle... and so hard to PEEL!"
At death scenes you forgot the one when you transform into a sphere (instead of an Pegasus) an attempt to cross the lake and get eaten by a shark.
Westwood studios is a legend. They created great games.
Such a pitty one of the founders seems to be the Grand Master of Masons in Nevada in 2020.
My childhood
This is the most memorable computer game i have ever played as a kid. thanks for uploading this video. it brings so much good memories way back then when was innocent and carefree😍😍😘😘
So cool to watch. This game was such a massive part of my childhood.
I pleyed this when I was very little, so little that I didnt understand much either. Thanks so much for the journey back! :D
awesome dude, thanks very much for posting this. I was like 11 when this first came out and I remember thinking how great it was.
You're not wrong mate! It just scared the bejeezus out of me. I remember the old days with subtitles only...:) Or perhaps my old machne just wouldn't cope with the audio.
I remember mine only had the music but no voices
that's my childhood right there.
I just love Westwood art style
"Father can you hear me?-
An apple!"
This was the first game I ever bought on CD. First few notes of this soundtrack brought so many memories.
Never got the chance to play this game when i was younger, played through for the first time recently. I found out that if you check the tree trunk beside the trap door in the forest, you will find a rainbow coloured gem and if you put that into the pond with the rainbow, you will get a silver statuette of a unicorn. Not needed to finish the game though!
Oh the great times of my childhood...
i played this on an old imac G3 at my dad's house and became obsessed with the series
such a hard game with no walkthrough
Nikos Katsikanis gave up
I still have my cdrom version too! great game!
You missed the death where you try to cross the water as a moonlight orb to get to the castle.;) Otherwise, great vid.
1:31:50 - why do you have play Do-Fa-Mi-Re ? Is there any clue for that tune or you just have to try all 256 possible combinations?
PS Thanks for video!
it took my and my dad ages to figure out to throw the coin in the well
Oh those were the days, those were the days.
I use to never remember what the name of this game was but I always remembered that it had an evil jester in it. It's kind of sad when you watch this..Games just don't seem to have the magic to them like they did back during these days. I really miss the point and click adventures. Monkey island, Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones, and so on
awesome awesome video. brings back memories =)
I loved this game.
I LOVE THIS THANK YOU
RIP Westwood. these guys made so many amazing games until EA fucking killed them
My dad owned this game and used to let me play it.
this is like visiting a very very old dear friend. Thanks for this :)
Cool! I like the narration. Classic.
Music in this game is really good :)
one of very first computer games I ever played back in the day
Brandon's voice being funny as hell sounding like "Adric" from Dr. Who trying to be a King. This is odviously a parody of King's Quest 1. Music reminescent of "Drakkhen" awsome!
When i was child i wrote the map of the cave, time flies.
I love that Kyrandia humor!
"All sweat and muscle, and so hard to peel!" "And I've got a flute, now!"
I love the dialogue (monologues?) in this game...
The speech is the best part. Without it the game would be nothing. The flower, omg so funny.
LOVE THESE GAMES
beatufully reminiscences on playing this with my sister as a kid :)
awesome game!
respect the odlschool treasures.
Finally I found !! I Love this game! :)
Awesome game, never lose it's magic since 1992 \m/
Man, looking at this now, I'm surprised I got as far as I did as a kid. A lot of solutions to these puzzles are pretty much trial&error / walkthrough required.
Thank you for the awesome Longplay. I'm going to watch it on my TV like a full-length movie tonight! BTW Lucasarts has been remaking some titles for the iPhone and iPad - they made Monkey Island 1 and 2 available with incredible graphics and voiceovers. Check them out on the App Store.
Geez I loved Kyrandia back in the day, but I loved Kyrandia 2 even more. I consider that one of the best point and click games I've ever played, maybe second only to Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
I remember i must have been 12 or so, this was such a difficult game for me lol
16:39 will always be my favorite, full volume and no talking from Brandon, the voice acting was terrible, glad my sound blaster couldn't handle the voices back in the day.
in video game, unsaturated shade of gray mean you are a statue made of stone.
that was fun to watch
How many floppy disks was it? 12? 15? I remember it being a LOT. Awesome game!
me and my lil bro played this game, i loooove it so much xoxo!!
Haha that burn at 26:00 !
good review THANKS
