  • The birthstones puzzle is stable in this version of the game, which makes things much easier. Most gem spawns are still random though, so RNG is still a factor -- had to throw away countless runs because of bad topaz/blue gem spawns.
    GOG version of the game, ScummVM, fastest walking speed.

    The randomised gemstone screen placement in Timbermist Woods is brutal!! A lot more walking around in this game compared to Kyrandia 2! Another incredible awe inspiring run...undecided if I have the patience to run this one haha.

    Lo hermoso de este juego, además de su música y sus gráficos coloridos, es que después de tanto tiempo, jugarlo de nuevo no pierde su encanto y nos hace volar al pasado. El tema de las gemas y las pociones, podría ser un poco más intuitivo, ya que antes, sin pistas, era imposible terminar este juego.

    sweet! Game I played when I was a kid. Just picked it up a month ago for a play through, and now I just got down to just under an hour! thanks for some route tips.

    How'd ya know the birthstone order? I keep getting a topaz as one :(

      That's interesting. Where did you get the game from? On the GOG version I was consistently getting the same pattern over and over, so I assumed it just uses a predetermined seed to make the puzzle stable. Are you always getting the same pattern or is it different every time?

    0:37 how come the character sprites don't get removed? And how do you skip through dialog so quick?

      That will be the emulator. I'd guess the dialogue skipping has to do with how it queues mouse clicks, so if you queue up enough inputs when you start talking to someone, each line is skipped as soon as possible. Also works with some animations, though not all. As for the redraw glitch, that one is also triggered by clicking too fast. Not sure why exactly, but it sometimes results in parts of the canvas not getting redrawn.

    OK - the gems are always randomly selected - for the "birthstone" thing - only the first gem is ever the same. How did you know exactly which birthstones were required?
    I absolutely love the Legend of Kyrandia series (the first being my favorite - I found Brandon's dialogue throughout the game to be so great!), although I feel like Legend of Kyrandia 2 was better designed (no mazes! Less random!) but Legend of Kyrandia 3... and the Cat Island is... a nightmare! I recently finished all three (long play and commentary) on my channel.

      I kept getting the same birthstone order, but I know that other people had different sequences (though at least as far as I've heard, also stable), so my (untested) hypothesis is that the order gets determined on game install (unknown whether it survives reinstalls), at least in the GOG version of the game. Where the stones spawn in the environment is still random though.

    What happens if you don’t have flowers when you approach the grave? I remember getting stuck there one time and couldn’t progress.

      Without the flowers you won't be able to activate the grave and get the invisibility power from the ghost, which means you won't be able to pass through the gate to the castle without the gargoyles noticing (and instantly killing you). The game is pretty harsh there, you're softlocked in that area and can't do anything but load an earlier save from before you left for the island.

      @@jenxness yes that’s what I remember. I couldn’t figure out how to pass so I saved and quit to come back later. That was the end of that run.

    kyrandia had THE best user interface ,best inventory system, best sound effects at that time, talk interruption, BEST user friendly interfaced game COMPARED to sierra garbage games (whose logos were unbypassable) and lucas art games that both didnt even have have cheap sound effects

      and you made a fool of yourself because Westwood Studios used the same sprites and sound effects from Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon. Don't be to hard on yourself still, they made Dune the real time strategy game and other amazing games like Blade Runner so you're on point with how innovative and complex the made their games.

      Eye of the Beholder 1 was unplayable until someone made the memory resident mini-map called all seeing eye, i was able to play it 30+ years later, i loved it. but i refused to play Eye of the Beholder 2, because of one fundamental user interface failure in which i had to keep on pressing and releasing go-button to move which would damage my finger muscles(hold down keypress wasnt allowed). this was what i was thought about EoB, but my thought might not be true. westwood's BEST graphics with the SSI's trash influence of difficult interfaces and also the entire EOB box was presented with SSI and not westwood. as you know kyrandia and lands of lore 1 and dune 2 were made by westwood. 1989 prince of persia had perfect sound effects, 1991 westwood started to have sound effect, in 1992 westwood perfected the sound effects in kyrandia 1. while sierra and lucas arts still didnt have sound effects in 1994. i had and still have no idea how to play lands of lore 2 and 3 and blade runner, they didnt seem like the work of westwood. i have no idea how to play darkmoon, frankly i didnt and dont still play any SSI ever. when westwood died, when westood's spirits died , a part of me died with it.

      @@abcdef2069 understandable given the situation but still Sierra and LucasArts employed very talented developers to make interesting adventures, they just could not keep it up.
