Ah the nostalgia is overwhelming! I played this game all the time as a kid! I even learned English through a handful of games like this one. It was a bit hard for me given the language and the lack of online resources (I mean the lack of "online"), but I had a lot of fun playing it!
I'm a graphic designer and as a kid I really liked the drawings and the environment of the game, so I came to see what's being said here. Congratulations to Westwood Studios! The devellopers must have had a lot of fun creating the flaps of this game, which for me remains one of my favorites...
Sadly I have to disagree. Early 3D was really early and an awful curse on presentation. 2D sprites has more detail, depth, effects and animations can be fluid or spontaneous with any shape possible. Rayman aged like fine wine, this shows it's age like pike men on an aircraft carrier.
I been watching videos of older games specifically ones from 1990s era for fun and noticed the atmospheres are crazy not like modern games. It's almost haunting kind of way.
I like an alternate to the ending, when Kalak and Brandon knock on the door, the first time I played I'd given them cheese, so they came in human form. They said that Malcolm is now the king of Kyrandia, and as his first act as king, he ordered them to fix the colossus on the isle of cats and to turn themselves back into mice :D
I played this game as a kid at my friends house. We played it for hours and loved it! I saw this, and bought a secondhand copy of this game on the internet and installed dosbox. Totally reliving this game! And loving it again! :-D Thanx for the post!
I like how there are multiple solutions to this game. Like I never used the toy soldier to catch the flowers, I used the broken flask. And I never knew you could hold on to the nail to use in the dungeon...and now I wish I was never curious about who the hands belonged to.
I absolutely love the Legend of Kyrandia series (the first being my favorite - I found Brandon's dialogue throughout the game to be so great!), although I feel like Legend of Kyrandia 2 was better designed (no mazes! Less random!) but Legend of Kyrandia 3... and the Cat Island is... a nightmare! I recently finished all three (long play and commentary) on my channel.
Hmm never finished, this, I loved Kyrandia 1, I loved Kyrandia 2, but I thought the atmosphere in this 3 is done(I hated the blocky rendered art, hand draw it was best). Also it seemed too hard to me.
I played this game over 20 years ago, when I was little kid. I only understanded to play the first parts of it but now I saw the rest of it. No wonder, that I couldn't progress with it, this is insanely complex game. :D
Watching all three now. I guess this i show things go. The first one is serious, second is semi serious then third is a joke. I do miss westwood and Virgin.
Kind of strange that they'd use Malcolm as a redeemed protag. He clearly was trying to kill everyone in the first game, not to mention he tried invading Kyrandia in this game. So he's a crazed power hungry murderer, but he just so happened to have not been the particular murderer of the king. Also, I quite liked the "down under" joke.
you guys dont get it. First off they explain , that he has a tendency not to be able to resist bad behavior , thanks to Gunther. But he wasn't a killer. Until he was blamed for the enchanted blade killing Brandon's parents. Because of that the old man sealed him away. That is why he came back to kill everyone. Revenge/ if he is framed as the bad guy he might as well be it. Its very psychological explainable. Most of us would not be very friendly if the masses left us for dead and blamed us over something we didn't do and even punish us. Most of us would even seek revenge. I think this 3rd game is very good at explaining Malcom's psyche. I mean right of the bat, in the beginning of this 3rd game he wants revenge again for being turned to stone. He is not just haphazardly plugged as the redeemable character. Its implied as the game progresses that , he must reject Gunther and realize he is loosing himself to evil. Reminiscent of having schizophrenia , having to listen to different voices. Weather his past actions are redeemable or not is up to ur perspective of course, but he was in the game... forgiven by the populace and Brandon. Especially since he didnt cross the point of no return, by actually succeeding in his revenge and the fact that he chose not to be this "crazed power hungry murderer" by the way ..technically not murderer since he didn't succeed". as you put it. And choosing to be a decent person from now on. Good story. Not strange. cleverly crafted redeemable character.
It was very sad to found that game engine of this part was so different from Kyrandia 1-2, which is ruined the trilogy completion. So somehow I completed this game 18 years ago, only with respect to first parts. Humor, shapes rendering, environments and quests are really annoying. But, at least, we know that Malcolm is innocent.
@habahotcakes I've heard those chants, as well as several other samples here, also appearing in the work of Banco De Gaia, and have always presumed the person who did the music was a fan. I'm not entirely sure what "Crash Bandicoot" is, but if it is a game, then no, the chant sample is definitely much older than either game or BDG.
I played this back then, but only now notice that voice actor Eric Randall (Malcolm+Gunther) sounds awfully familiar. Simpsons, CN, or what? Any clues?
I don't agree. The Hand of Fate is the best game overall, but Malcolm's Revenge is for sure a way better designed and varied experience than the first The Legend of Kyrandia game is.
[[Spoilers: Please watch the Longplay]] Wait, if Herman has the cursed knife... Could he be involved with the king's death? Maybe...The killer?! But why? What motive dose he has for killing the king? No, wait. It wasn't the king he wanted killed--It was Malcolm since he was a spoiler prankster. I guess his plans backfired when the king grabbed the knife instead. Herman was a bit of a two-timing idiot. Meaning to kill one person and incidentally killing the king since they're brothers. Maybe Herman knew Malcolm would become king , as the King knew it would be a good moral that even a Jester can become king if they could. I suppose since Herman saw that as a cruel joke as Malcolm was seen as chaotic evil. The only evil I see is the jealousy is of an idiot. If I was Malcolm, I would charge Herman with involuntary man-slaughter. After all, involuntary murder is still murder. And planting the blame on Malcolm was his biggest mistake.
Why so much wasted time after returning to Kyrandia? Vid and walkthrough was great up to then. Failed hard in the last hour, I presumed for all three endings, but was mistaken.
@5kernschmelze5: The German subtitles are horrible, though. I just completed a LP of Kyrandia 2 in German where we needed these subtitles, and right at the start got confused as hell :-) Whenever I just play for fun, I prefer the original version, especially for older games. But I guess you were lucky to have this option. Your English teacher must have loved you :-)
I was kind of disappointed when I saw that you had to play as Malcom. After book 2, I was hoping that Brandon would take the lead again. After he became king, they never really showed what he did during his reign. The storyline also seemed dull in this one though the plot twist was nice about Malcom, though it didn't make sense why he went causing chaos in book 1 if he was innocent the whole time. I did lol at the part where he stabbed himself to death XD haha it was so random lol
First off they explain , that he has a tendency not to be able to resist bad behavior , thanks to Gunther. But he wasn't a killer. Until he was blamed for the enchanted blade killing Brandon's parents. Because of that the old man sealed him away. That is why he came back to kill everyone. Is anyone else still watching in 2024? This game series needs a remaster.
Yarp.
Best music ever! So nostalgic! God, it was a good game! They don't make anything like it anymore...
I find this video a relaxing 'elevator longplay' to listen to and take the occasional glance at while doing school work.
Loved this as a kid.
Ah the nostalgia is overwhelming! I played this game all the time as a kid! I even learned English through a handful of games like this one. It was a bit hard for me given the language and the lack of online resources (I mean the lack of "online"), but I had a lot of fun playing it!
I loved the Elvis reference there
"Our guest Mr.Levis prefers to be left alone...Mr Levis? Sorry There must be a typo on the form..."

The music was most memorable thing about this game, that and the backwards talking kid :p
+Matthew McKenzie wait, it was just backward talking? nothing more difficult? I still wonder what was the mening of that all!
Now i wanna play it backwards
Yeah, every song in this game was epic.
And you don’t remember that the squirrel tears your eyes out if you poke it enough?
17 years after i played this game, i finaly see the end. God bless youtube!
Same here. And all I remember is the phrase: Sesame Seed. No idea where to use that back then..
“Malcolm was a normal baby” *cuts to a decidedly abnormal baby*
The best game of the trilogy. Malcom was the greatest main character.
Sadly I have to disagree.
Early 3D was really early and an awful curse on presentation.
2D sprites has more detail, depth, effects and animations can be fluid or spontaneous with any shape possible.
Rayman aged like fine wine, this shows it's age like pike men on an aircraft carrier.
ooohh i loved that as a child. thank you for uploading it. brings back so much memorys x) wish i could play it through by myself
I been watching videos of older games specifically ones from 1990s era for fun and noticed the atmospheres are crazy not like modern games. It's almost haunting kind of way.
yeah the atmosphere in games like The Dig, Full Throttle etc. its great :3
Coach Z from Homestar Runner was dressed up as Malcolm in 2021 Halloween Hide & Seek
aaah, the glorious old dayzzzz, was so awesome to play this when i was a child...
"I've seen flea markets with less good stuff."
I just came here for the mid-90s time capsule at the end of the game. I can almost hear that Snapple bottle *pop*.
Nice bag of pizzeria chips 24" pixie stick maybe a flat style slim jim and still have change off a 5$ bill lmao
@@jacobsmith3928 Sesame Seeds! Crunchy.
childhood memory

They did a good job of trying to emulate Mark Hamill's Joker voice.
Thank you for the recap!
LOL, awesome!
"Time to hypnotize Mr. Squirrel......" :D
It's a fun game but I always regarded it non-canon. The first two Kyrandia games were so much better on all levels!
I actually always preferred the 3rd one. So many cool jokes... that ever-revolting Fluffy buying weapons from dogs!
I like how there are multiple solutions to this game. Like I never used the toy soldier to catch the flowers, I used the broken flask. And I never knew you could hold on to the nail to use in the dungeon...and now I wish I was never curious about who the hands belonged to.

Good old memories. 10x for this!
Love this game, wish they would ressurect the Kyrandia series.
no
Man I would love to see malcolm The jester again !!!!!
Awesome upload :) Seems like only yesterday I was running this for the first time.
I used to love this game!
Hmm never finished, this, I loved Kyrandia 1, I loved Kyrandia 2, but I thought the atmosphere in this 3 is done(I hated the blocky rendered art, hand draw it was best). Also it seemed too hard to me.
at least the character sprites looks the same.
"There's the toy soldier!"
hahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *clapclapclap*
"Ah, a toy horse."
...*cough*

Someone at Westwood was a fan of 'Allo 'Allo, I hear.
I think this would do great as a mobile version!
It's possible to play on mobile using ScummVM. It needs some manual configuration nonetheless.
@@zsoltk6145 thank you for telling me that! It's a start for me, at the very least...
When I was a kid, I had a magazine that explained it, but I didn't had the game. I was so afraid of the Jester.
God.. Playing this game was so nice
Watching all three now. I guess this i show things go. The first one is serious, second is semi serious then third is a joke. I do miss westwood and Virgin.
i played this game all the time when i was a kid, and i honestly don't remember it having a laugh track.
YES!!!! ABOUT TIME!
What a game!
This was such a hard game to get running back in the day.
Agreed! It was that god damn DOS.
HAHAHA smell that dairy air! LOL
@1:29:14 That part reminds me of Trump with the voice and hand gestures xD
Oh the memories!
@Marlene55M right! i played this as a child with german subtitles on. that´s the main reason i never had any problems with english at school =)
I still have that game here.. only it does not function on my pc.. But this was one of the best adventure games I have ever played :)
I had no idea there was a jew hidden in that machine in the prison
I spent hours making doilies.

Yes seems like they decided to change the narrative to make it like a 'happy ending' for everyone.
you guys dont get it. First off they explain , that he has a tendency not to be able to resist bad behavior , thanks to Gunther. But he wasn't a killer. why don't you tickle people with the jester staff for more points?
The worst thing about your video is that I remember all of these games😅😅😅😭😭😭🤣
great game!
nyahaha omg the third sequel is the the best(all was awesome of coz), i love all the jokes :P Thank youuuu
@Pjamky you can use a program called ScummVM to play it. that's what I'm using right now to play all three Kyrandia games.

The laugh track can be turned off in the options, I always did that when I played this game.
seriously, what does that "vowel's come first" from Book 2 mean? I never got that.. :/
Hahaha fedt navn :D
First cd game i did play...Looooooong time ago.
anyone know where i can download a working version of this?? help!!! i haven't played this game since i was a kid and it was one of my favorites
@SynthsofSkotcher lol me too i was playing this game when i was like 5 years old like in 2003 or 2002. iam missing this game
Which computer and system did you use to play?
not fair I gave the sandwich to that voice of reason before calling him for trial, cannot complete the game now. :/
got this with my PC but the disc was fucked and wouldnt read past the first few screens :

You need to use a software called Scummvm to play old school adventure games like this.
Just saw this 9 years later, haha! Wonder if that’s still a thing.
@@blastbeatdown It is. You can even use the Scummvm core in Retroarch. :)
Has anybody the clean Soundtrack of the first Level? I´m looking for this so loooong!

I found this game to be virtually unplayable . Thanks for this video, I was curious how the story wrapped up.

a little late but there are several guides and walkthroughs to this game. plus save states are a thing
A splendid final game for the Kyrandia series, the graphics are the only downside and even then they aren't that bad
For non-native speakers it would have been very helpful if you'd also had the subtitles turned on. Some actors in this game don't speak too clearly.

@xInnocentDaysx There actually is an option to suppress the fake laughs, the game was much more enjoyable without them xD
This game should have been named: malcolm's return... did he wasted anyone?
