Carla and Otis have a lot of nerve, considering they mutineered at the first opportunity and just laid about the ship. Serves them right getting stranded.
Couldn’t agree more, I remember that moment in the first MI game, and being as annoyed as Guybrush probably was.
I got this game for Christmas one year. One of the best gifts I ever got.

I've been wishing the Monkey Island games get played on Game Grumps for quite a while but between Guybrush's 'sexy voice' and the evil Australian I would especially be interested to see what Danny and Ross would think of this one.

I remember playing this 13 years ago with my brother nothing but good vibes man. From what I gather the possibility of making a new Monkey game is still viable, I just hope they don't kill off the franchise. We need more games like this.

+Ryan Hanson Yeah, Ron Gilbert (The creator of Monkey Island) really wants to make another Monkey game but he can't do shit unless Disney sell him the rights to the game. (Disney acquired LucasArts in 2012, therefore they own the Monkey franchise). He's been trying to reach out to Disney but they don't seem too interested in doing anything with the Monkey franchise at the moment..

man, this game is pure nostalgia. Melee Island, the Scumm Bar, the ship harbor, Meathook, Otis, Carla, the ability to freely explore Monkey Island... too bad the controls overshadowed this.

I recently just replayed the first 3 Monkey Island games... I love them. I have never played Escape From Monkey Island, but I wanted to. I jumped through hoops to get it to work on my computer a few months ago... only to find that the controls on the computer were more infuriating than any other game I've played recently. I figured I'd watch the long play instead of actually playing it.
Same here. Love the series except this one. Controlling GT It's SOOO infuriating.

The Curse of monkey island aged very well and still has very good animation....this game however due to shitty graphics aged horribly. I wish they kept it 2 D
well classic case of "whooo everyone is doing XYZ (insert:3d; VR, and any kind of currently popular graphics that will look shitty like fuck in 5 years time) ! lets do it too to stay cool!"
half of the game is still in 2d.. all the backgrounds are beautiful art. just the animated things like guybrush or some objects look a little wonkey. I think it aged just fine
I grew up obsessed with The Curse of Monkey Island, but for some reason I love this game more! What I mostly love about it is the atmosphere of Lucre Island and Knuttin Atoll, the places felt more "there" and "alive" to me, talking to the different characters and solving the puzzles felt more like "events," and you have to give them credit for Lucre Town being one big connected area. I honestly don't know if this game beats the atmosphere of Blood Island/Skull Island for me, the Smuggler's Cave, the Cemetary, Hotel and Cannibal Village were awesome, but I love Escape currently. Perhaps I experienced more depth immersing into the unique graphics of the world. I also liked the end atmosphere of its Monkey Combat and the different music this game has like House of Sticks, Knuttin Atoll, Lucre Town theme. Very unique game imo.

Ah Escape from Monkey Island, the only Monkey Island game I haven't played through a million times, well that and Tales of Monkey Island. All the other ones I pretty much know exactly what to do and remember every scene. Maybe I need to play through this again. It's been so long it would be like playing a brand new game! I actually still own my original copy I pre-ordered complete in box with all the fixins. I can remember sitting in the ole Lincoln waiting for the UPS to come on a Friday. Hoping it would come so I could play it over the weekend off from school. Those were the days. It even game with a copy of Grim Fandango!
8 years later and you still haven't played it, but you're thinking about it lol.
After all those years, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only that had problems moving around, especially on the map, where he bounced off of every corner. That was so frustrating when played, but it's hilarious to see now.
Presumably those who chastise the controls are a bit spoilt, yeah sure it can be annoying and could've been done better but the game isn't about controls. It's about the storyline, and the puzzles. In the particular case of this game, it's also about the history and its trueness to previous instalments. Love it.

@Fester Blats The music provides the atmosphere. You can't turn that off. It's not annoying and neither are subtitles. Some people are hard of hearing and need the subtitles.
Loved this game, fantastic "end" to the series. The plots on all the different islands were so good. I love the Lucre Island stuff with Pegnose Pete etc.

"Curse of" is good but "LeChucks Revenge" is the best in my opinion (Has the best puzzles at least)

I loved the 3 first monkey island games but this one ran so slow on my computer that I never got to finish it. Playing with that many stumbles was a nightmare.
This was the funniest and most enjoyable game of the series for me before TOMI came out

I've still never played Curse of Monkey Island. I played 1 & 2 years ago then suddenly got this as a birthday present. I thought this was bloody brilliant :-D especially in the swamp with all the paradoxes etc
I just like how, at 4:56, with the ship less than 100 yards from the pier, and the mass of Melee Island(tm) literally sprawling on both side off to the horizons, THAT is when the Look-Out on duty shouts, "Land Ho!" lol, no kidding!!!
All people complaining wish they could play a game today as beautifully written as any Monkey Island games. Graphics didn't age that bad, they are still beautiflly 2d rendered from the paintings . Just get used to the gameplay, like in Griim Fandango, and you'll have a great time playing this I'm sure.

This game is actually really freaking good, it just pales in comparison to the other games in the series (though I do like it more than 2)
I've got the game on PS2. I loved all the different gags. For example, I LOLed when I tried the action "pick up" on the moon outside Meathook's house and Guybrush said, "Pick up the moon?! Are you nuts?!". LOL. xD

The 3d cutscenes lighting reminds me of the cutscenes in psychonauts. They looks the same in light and shadows.
Without comparing to the previous 3, I enjoyed playing this one alot.
I had no expectation, nor did I know of it, when at a flea market, without knowing, I turned around, and there it was, a three headed monkey. I mean, the new Monkey Island game. It was weird at first, but the story and puzzles were good. The finale.... a bit deja vu. Many of the places seemed more genuine than any telltale effort.

Carlo and Otis said they escaped from monkey island I have been binge watching your play throughs on these games and from what I seen from the first game they had a super easy time on monkey island come on game designers get with it haha

Least favorite of the MI (TM) games I played. Still enjoyed the challenge to get through one time as frustrating and unfunny as it was.
:D I have to find this somewhere and finally complete it after nearly 20 years. I got stuck at the bar, I couldn't win the hand-wrestling match with the old pirate. My English at that time wasn't very good, but I remember jerky pretzels and jump off the cliff joke very well :D

They just did escape from monkey island digitally I got it for my Nintendo switch at GameStop for $24.99
i wish they'd remaster this, in fact, the backgrounds and structures and everything look pretty good, just need some 4k textures and redo the characters so they aren't so pixel-y. looking back i know it's not awesome but it isn't bad either. i like the colors, not too story book but also bright and colorful like curse of monkey island.

I am a HUGE fan of the broken sword franchise and I wanted to check this out because I heard it was from the same creative team but I wasn't really impressed. Maybe the original was better? but that one was only for the PC right?

I would say Elizabeth(Keira's character) is more based on Elaine (from the original trilogy and then curse) than the other way around :)
Check how Elizabeth evolves from a governors daughter to a pirate lass between the films..But I would have to argue that Knightley couldn't pull it off for the life of her...
Agree with the others. I really love the voices, characters, music, etc. but the controls are just a huge barrier to actually enjoying playing. I did play it all the way through when I got it but I've played all the other MI games multiple times, I'd rather just watch this one now.
Remember this for PS2 - never got anywhere though...

i love this game. the reason for their decline is because it involves too much brain power and you don't kill anything. some people are so shallow. i hope they do grim fandango soon.

dude 1 & 2 where the best period.
they replaced the cartooney appeal with 3d ugly. It seems harder to animate silly events, such as guybrush stuffing three bags of booty and a treasure chest into his pants. In the third installment, he would open a pocket and stuff it in while his pantaloons got bigger until finally the items settled and he looked normal. However, in the 3d ugly, he awkwardly picks up objects and holds them near his pants until the function told it to disappear. not conducive the visual art style of MI3

Lol yep the first Monkey Island game that required a 3D Acceleration Card. I really think it should have had a software rendering mode like Grim Fandango. I was lucky enough to have a high end 1GHZ 384MB ram Gateway with a Geforce 2 GTS and VX1120 22" CRT Monitor. That thing was a beast in it's day. Those were the days

Yeah Curse of monkey island is great. it´s cool too that they made special edition of the 1st and 2nd game. they should make a special edition or something like that of escape from monkey island cuz i can´t find the game download or the grimE emulator for mac os x.

This looks like torture. The playstyle of the video also doesn't appeal to me. "Oh look, there's a bar! Let's walk pointlessly round in circles and then walk straight past it. Bars in MI games are never good places to go to."

I dunno, I think Tales did a decent job overall if it had its slow moments.
Things change over time. If it was just the same thing every time there'd not be a lot of point in following it.

I wish they would remake this game on the ScummVM . . . It feels too different for me :(.
I kind of wish they had stuck with the artistic style of the first two games to begin with ... modernize the graphics as hardware improved and possibilities grew, but keep the general style. Rather than jump from to the original style to whole another type of cartoony for the third part and then suddenly jump to some odd 3D next up (some of those camera angles ... why?).

Singit500 ScummVM is a, for lack of a better word, emulator for games that ran on the Scumm game engine. Since Escape From Monkey Island used GrimE, it's impossible to use ScummVM. This annoys me too -.- Heads up- ResidualVM, made by the same people, i believe, and they have made a similar program to ScummVM that runs GrimE games, including Grim Fandango and Escape From Monkey Island. Abit more complex to do (moving files and stuff...) But can be used none the less. Hope this makes you feel better...

Although Charity James is a wonderful actress, putting an American in the role of Elaine was a mistake. I'm glad Boyd came back for Tales. Wish the best for James, though.
