I was 5 when I saw my uncles playing CvS2 and it got me into FGs. I still remember all the SFX, all the themes, all the special intros, and Hibiki has a dear place in my heart for being my first ever main. What a legendary game.

You're pretty much the only person I've seen online who has something nice to say about roll canceling Every other oldhead I've met wants it gone lmao Great video
I'm no old head myself, I'm only 19. I don't think RCs ruin the game, if anything they can enhance it if you just lab against it (i.e. neutral jumping to beat sakura RC tatsu). Do I think they're broken? Yes, but at the end of the day, I also don't care, every game has that one thing that's hella broken.
Idk the old heads you're talking to, but plenty of us played this game at a really high level for a decade or more. RCs and all. They add a lot to the game, and if Capcom does ever get to a CvS2 re-release there will be a revolt if they try to take RCs out.
I was SO waiting for this. Ever Since People started doing things like "MvC2 is Broken" "Smash Bros Is Broken." I love CvS2. Not good at it. But I love it.
I felt like i knew enough about the game to make one and nobody else was gonna do it. I feel like cvs2 is shrouded in mystery to a lot of people in regards to the quirks it has, so i felt like sharing them in a condensed format for everyone.
As someone who is 20 and has only been into trad fighting games for about only 5 years or so, it speaks volumes that someone like me considers this one of their favorite fighting games. Ever since i started playing the genre cvs2 has always been one of my favs. So imagine my shock when i went to CEO last year and saw they had a cvs2 bracket and then for the first time i started seeing roll canceling and shit, I was in awe! I never looked up advanced tech because i thought no one ran tourneys offline anymore for this game. To see there was more to this game that i loved was so fucking cool! Then a few days ago as we all know they annouced the rerelease and i lost my shit (in my head of course i was at work lol) In that year since i first saw some of the advance tech cvs2 had to offer it went from not just one of my favorite fighting games, it went to one of my favorite games period and for there to finally be a rerelease on modern platforms and steam especially makes me so god damn happy!
i would say this video barely scratches the surface for dramatic effect but this covers a ton of obscure tech. i'm also just as elated to hear about the rerelease announcement.
I grew up with the GameCube version and despite that ports questionable inputs i love it to this day, my absolute favorite fighting game. When i moved back to California i showed it to my cousin who also loves fighting games but he was never a big SF fan but LOVED KoF and meanwhile i loved SF but never played much KoF, he was blown away by the roster and we both played it constantly, we bought every version we could try just to see the differences. An absolute masterpiece, its a shame there's no modern port yet
it really is a shame there's no modem port. even though the community (myself included) loves to rag on the gamecube port, i gotta take into account that people legit grew up playing it and there's no problem with that, the more people who play this game the better. i feel like your cousin liking KOF and you liking SF and bonding over this game is like exactly what capcom thought of when they did this crossover lol
fighting games are beautiful because you'll have an entire community pissing and shitting themselves over a move that looks completed innocuous to the average viewer but that's just how the genre is
My favourite genre of youtube, well produced in depth videos about games i've never heard of, how lovely. Also, what's the name of the song during the Sagat section, it sounds tranquil af
I hope/wis that all these Collections we have been getting would have updates or balance patches to improve and give new blood to these games. I do hope CVS gets a ReRelease. And if CVS3 gets developed it carryes a bit of the Music Vibe CVS2 at least like the NY Stage.
I dont think CvS2 needs a balance patch to thrive but it would be interesting to see how one could fix some issues it has. I only really care for a CvS2 rerelease at this point, I'm too addicted to it
Ah my beloved. my favorite "broken" aspect of cvs2 is morrigan's ambiguous cross up mk. You can even press hk instead to wiff and land with a grab. Good times.
yea morrigan's section was mainly to both highlight morrigan's insane mixup potential, but also how much she falls off when she loses run. like she goes from tournament viable upper mid tier to unviable low tier dumpster fire with one singular change.
i knew this vid would blow up, my goal was simply to show off high lvl knowledge to casual audiences and i think i've done that, but if some big names can see this as well than i guess im down for that.
As someone who actually has the PS2 verison of CVS2 on my PS3 and plays copious amount of Evil Ryu, he is a ton of fun and a shame we won't see his true potential in tournaments. That Hyper SF2 style tatsu, man... it's just so much fun to use. That and the fact he is quite fun when paired with the console-exclusive EX groove systems that allow for canceling all specials into supers and chain combos. god, i love the PS2 version so much. Least it isn't EO.
For me, who started playing fighting games with Street Fighter 4, this game is the same thing as the latest one. I appreciate very much that you share your strategies with us.
21:02 I’d argue that K-Nako R1 is the way to go for using Healing. You get a knockdown from throw or H Mamahaha, and immediately do Healing and you’re getting back close to half your health back. Occasionally, and usually only if your opponent decides to dump their own resources, you’ll get punished for it. Most cases, they’ll get one hit in, so you lose maybe 5-10% health after. Which fuels your next use of Healing again. Even if you’re going for the long round and don’t get much health back between rounds, repeated uses of the Healing makes up for it. And it’ll definitely do a ton of mental damage. 😂❤
I feel if cacpcom were to rerelease it that roll cancels would be patched (some of the mvc2 glitches in the upcoming colloection already proved they will patch stuff). I wonder how much the meta would be shaken up if that happened
if RCs were removed and literally nothing else changed, i think top tiers still remain top tier. none of them get carried by RCs (maybe A-blanka but K-blanka is top tier as well) Additionally, low tiers would be even worse than they are for not having an option as powerful as RCs. I think the game would actually be more unbalanced, however if you're removing RCs you might as well fix the game in other ways like individually balancing characters.
i think non-cvs2 players should know these more obscure details because it goes a long way. now you know there's more to the game's quirks and nuance other than roll cancels.
The algorithm brought this to me after the Capcom FGC vol. 2 reveal As someone with a family and a full-time job now compared to when this first came out I am now *less* hyped for the rerelease because of this video single-handedly 🙁 I don't have many friends to play with IRL (and the ones I do are REALLY into fighters who will proceed to smoke me after a couple matches), and I'm gonna get creamed online from not having the time to learn this insane meta
One thing you're wrong about is Haohmaru's level 3 - in trades, the counter damage is insane, almost 80% right away. That means that if the opponent is locked onto any animation long enough, they'll be decimated by it. While situational, it's quite the frequent one...
it's hard to trade on a move with 42 frames of startup. most times you can easily just jump over it or just block it. in punish scenarios it can work, but that would mean something has to be -42 on block, or have 42 recovery frames, and the list of moves like that is short.
I think CvS1 was the first fighting game to have a color maker but correct me if i'm wrong. They really didn't need to include a feature like that but it's really cool that they did. I sometimes quite enjoy making a bunch of custom palettes for my characters.
basically, during Dan/Rolento's wakeup animation, they can get thrown. They never enter a state where they can jump. You can theoretically avoid this with quick rise, but you can catch quick rise pretty easily.
your opponent is upside down the entire round, unless you throw them. throw tech reversal in cvs2 is where the game just shits itself and gives you the most random ass outcomes
I'm actually new to this game even though it's from 20 years ago, but I thought grooves had the exclusive properties of their og games counterparts. I don't remember seeing a roll on A-ism or V-ism, which are the inspiration for C and A grooves. That's an SNK thing.
@@illgeteverythingback I was about to say "just remaster one of the past ones" Then I forgot Capcom actually listened up and we are having Project Justice again🥴❤️ If my only issue is the lack of crossplay... Oh well, at least is multi-plat
Glad you learned. My goal was primarily to show casual audiences all the nuances this game has. Some of the stuff I covered used to be only known by a few top players, but with this video I hope the casual audiences appreciate this game a little more.
For such a powerful tech a lot of people I've seen use K-Groove, which has no defensive movement options at all. The most common RC Groove seems to be A. Also I never knew your Groove dictated your guard meter...
K-groove offensively is so OP that it makes up for having no real defensive options outside of Just Defend. I would say the most common RC groove is a tie at all levels of play between C/A-groove imo, but at the absolute highest level of play A-groove has the edge. K and P groove have low guard meter (P is 80%, K is 90%), and other grooves have normal guard meter.
I am not sure what the S. Akuma vs Sagat match-up is, but I will say landing the infinite against Sagat with S. Akuma is so satisfying since Sagat is such a powerful character. I do hope that there would be a tournament that allows the boss characters to be used just to say what they would be like in the highest level. Who knows, maybe their low health really is a good way to balance them and they probably won't be top tier...
shin akuma's depressing health means that he literally dies in like 2 touches. While double air fireballs is incredibly busted, Sagat can afford to eat them, shin akuma cannot afford to eat anything.
@@SuperQuanBros true. However, if shin Akuma does land the double air fire ball, it's already gg for Sagat since it is a pretty easy infinite to pull off but I imagine that it's not gonna be easy to get to that position against a good sagat player since one mess up and shin Akuma is dead
More busted crap like: roll super (Sagat level 2 safe, Yamazaki level 2s true 50/50), cross-up Level 3 Blanka super, Cammy canceling her Level 3 off s.HK whiff puninsh, linking her Level 3 after close s.HP (+10)/far s.HP (+9)/cr.MP (+7), or link close s.HP into s.HK xx Level 3, A-groove Claw in general

Unfortunately I don't really do that anymore. Mainly because I've moved onto developing a commercial IKEMEN fullgame.
You know you f up when Blanka is somehow top tier.
I really enjoyed watching thanks for putting in the time explaining all of the ins and outs of the game. This could've easily been a 3 part video series for sure I would love to see a video explaining CvS2 EO as well maybe titled "CvS2EO is Not Broken" but anyways just a thought.
A video that details the differences between EO and normal in depth is actually a pretty good idea, I'll consider doing that. Maybe not in the same format as this one but I'm sure many people want to know why we don't necessarily play or even respect EO as much.
I was 5 when I saw my uncles playing CvS2 and it got me into FGs. I still remember all the SFX, all the themes, all the special intros, and Hibiki has a dear place in my heart for being my first ever main. What a legendary game.
4:44 Can't talk about parries without the Evo moment lol
I also just wanted to show off my parry skills even though I suck at P groove in actual matches. I'm a C/S groove guy
Back in 2001? I remember getting a ps2 for xmas, and with it I got this gem of a game. My world completely changed and I became a rabid fan of all fighting games. I hope we get a collection of these games!
awesome. i found this game just by watching videos on youtube and taking a liking to it so i got nullDC and played it, fell in love instantly.
4:43 Opening the P-Groove section up THAT way, I see? Very clever.
it took me like 30 minutes to record me parrying that super. i'm sure it was well worth it
The only thing that would have made it better would be editing the people clapping.
“While RCs are broken, they’re just a thing you have to accept to enjoy the game competitively.”
Kid named CvS2 EO:
Edit: i know noone plays it competitively, but they COULD and thats what irks me
When I worked at the tilt as an arcade mechanic..... I used to play this shit all day, it's funny you mention Chang because one of the best players I ever seen used s groove with Terry, Chang and fucking rolento, it was magic to watch to say the least, I play vice hibiki, and Chun-Li
S-Terry Chang Rolento... That's an odd team. Do you remember the player's name? I know a lot about old and new top players alike and the only top player I can see using a team like that is 178 from Japan. Cool story ✌️
I don't remember man it was so long ago, he could have just been some after work warrior lmao
the after work warrior... the most dangerous fighting game player out there
Did you have privileges to set the machines to free play after hours?
@@mikeg2491 I had the keys
Why is the volume so low on the video?
i generally have my programs on low volume, i forgot to increase the volume after exporting the project. if i can somehow edit this video to fix that then i will do that.
Such a well made video!!! I love playing this game, shame the lobbies on Fightcade are always empty...
I'm just waiting for a rerelease at this point. Fightcade is cool and all but it's not my favorite way to play.
@@SuperQuanBros really? Why not? I love Fightcade
for games like alpha 2, kof 98 or really any fbneo game it's great but flycast just isn't something i like using in particular and that's the emulator fightcade uses.
You should be glad Capcom didn't give Geese his Rashomon super.
K-Geese with Rashomon would have been a god damn nightmare lmao.
You popped me with the RDCWorld Doc Rivers “You . . . are trash.”

I'm here after the announcement lmao. THIS IS TRUE LOVE WE'RE MAKING
tip for the future, read your captions out loud to gauge how long they need to stay on screen. That's a good way to know how much time a viewer needs to read the information on screen and intuit all of it before more info is thrown at them.
You're pretty much the only person I've seen online who has something nice to say about roll canceling
Every other oldhead I've met wants it gone lmao
Great video
Ever Since People started doing things like "MvC2 is Broken" "Smash Bros Is Broken."
I love CvS2.
An absolute masterpiece, its a shame there's no modern port yet
it really is a shame there's no modem port. even though the community (myself included) loves to rag on the gamecube port, i gotta take into account that people legit grew up playing it and there's no problem with that, the more people who play this game the better. i feel like your cousin liking KOF and you liking SF and bonding over this game is like exactly what capcom thought of when they did this crossover lol
shoutout to RDCWorld at 10:08 lmaoooooooo
Finally......... someone really knows ball
when i first heard it i was shocked lol
9:00 I always love it when the best moves on a character are just the unassuming punch or kick and not the gigantic fireball or flying sword of doom
fighting games are beautiful because you'll have an entire community pissing and shitting themselves over a move that looks completed innocuous to the average viewer but that's just how the genre is

My favourite genre of youtube, well produced in depth videos about games i've never heard of, how lovely. Also, what's the name of the song during the Sagat section, it sounds tranquil af
it's called "fight with the wind" or just "windmill stage theme" colloquially

PAINT THAT FENCE! 🎨🎨🖌🖌
hype for the switch vers of this game!
So, roll cancels just turn every special move into an invincible DP. Holy shit.
thats a good video hope max watches this on stream!
i knew this vid would blow up, my goal was simply to show off high lvl knowledge to casual audiences and i think i've done that, but if some big names can see this as well than i guess im down for that.
Jay, this video is fucking amazing my friend. What an upload. You had me hooked from the start. Bravo bravo.
Thanks, 30 minutes and consistently engaging was something I didn't think I was capable of but this format kinda made it easy for me.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE WON!!!!!!!!!
A roster so full of chars with unique and interesting tech and yet the meta of this game hovered around the same few characters
happens with every game that has a large roster. a lot of characters in this game are definitely tournament viable though.
Best CVS2 video I have ever seen in a very long time
Thanks. As someone who knows a thing or two about this game that was hopefully the impression I would leave.

fantastic vid, I've been casually playing this game my whole life and it's nice to see all this stuff in action before the port comes out next year!
Coming back to this prepping for next year 🤘🏽
10:20 it's missing Fox's reflector sound effect from Smash Bros 💀
You cooked with this 🔥🔥🔥now I’m hyped to replay this
That was partially the goal, I do think I cooked with this one
For me, who started playing fighting games with Street Fighter 4, this game is the same thing as the latest one. I appreciate very much that you share your strategies with us.
Thanks, I think some will find this knowledge dump useful, especially come the release of CFC2.
Why is morrigan's dash neutered in specifically the capcom styles? she's *their* character!
it's quite ironic if you think about it
15:17 that bison(vega)'s combo looks very curious
(btw I think sound volume of this video is too low that I watched it with 100% PC volume)
21:02
I’d argue that K-Nako R1 is the way to go for using Healing.
Great video, but please raise up the volume next time. For a moment I thought my speakers weren't working lol
yea i got that one a lot, idk how to edit videos post upload but if i find a way i'll get it fixed
Good shit. learned a lot!
i think non-cvs2 players should know these more obscure details because it goes a long way. now you know there's more to the game's quirks and nuance other than roll cancels.
Deadly video. Great commentary too.
4:43 obligatory "LET'S GO JUSTIN!!"
The algorithm brought this to me after the Capcom FGC vol. 2 reveal
As someone with a family and a full-time job now compared to when this first came out I am now *less* hyped for the rerelease because of this video single-handedly 🙁
I don't have many friends to play with IRL (and the ones I do are REALLY into fighters who will proceed to smoke me after a couple matches), and I'm gonna get creamed online from not having the time to learn this insane meta
10:30 Friday Night Fisticuffs will never be forgotten.
Excellent video, can't wait for Capcom Fighting Collection 2 😅
CvS2 is my favourite fighting game just ahead of SF4 and KOF '98. I play an N-Groove Ryo, Iori and Ryu because I'm a psychopath.
having ryu and ryo on the same team is like having steph and seth curry on the same basketball team. i respect it tho lol
Run -> cr.lp -> Run -> cr.lp
@@Friedafterbirth "Mom look I'm gonna win Battle by the Bay"
i mean it has a pallete maker which is neat
I think CvS1 was the first fighting game to have a color maker but correct me if i'm wrong. They really didn't need to include a feature like that but it's really cool that they did. I sometimes quite enjoy making a bunch of custom palettes for my characters.
3:30 wait how's that a combo if that's a command grab? can't they just jump on wake up? or wake up earilier?
basically, during Dan/Rolento's wakeup animation, they can get thrown. They never enter a state where they can jump. You can theoretically avoid this with quick rise, but you can catch quick rise pretty easily.
Was wondering why Sakura and Bison's combos were called ShoSho and Paint the Fence but quickly realized why
this was back in the day when certain combos had their own cool nicknames everyone knew.
Your amazing keep up the good work.
Heart warming video for the whole family, 10/10, would spam to my friends
your dad will be blown away when he finds out about hibiki's throw juggle CC
Crazy to get this cool video and the Capcom FGC2 announcement in the same month 😅
This is the only game where Benimaru had a cool looking super give it some credit
8:51 saving this point. lol, I've never seen this before. Game just gave up
your opponent is upside down the entire round, unless you throw them. throw tech reversal in cvs2 is where the game just shits itself and gives you the most random ass outcomes
I'm actually new to this game even though it's from 20 years ago, but I thought grooves had the exclusive properties of their og games counterparts. I don't remember seeing a roll on A-ism or V-ism, which are the inspiration for C and A grooves. That's an SNK thing.
Bruh, Kyosuke ain't been in no other game but this one and they hoed him bad. 😢
As the only Rival Schools rep, they could have done better.
@@SuperQuanBros At least the Japanese can eat with him. They cook with every character regardless of mechanics and tier.
with itsuno gone say gg to the possibility of anymore rival schools in the future
@@illgeteverythingback
Yeah though an SNK developed game might have a better chance to pick one of them.
@@illgeteverythingback I was about to say "just remaster one of the past ones"
Then I forgot Capcom actually listened up and we are having Project Justice again🥴❤️
If my only issue is the lack of crossplay... Oh well, at least is multi-plat
This video was a great watch. As a casual I learned so much. I hope this comes to steam one day
Glad you learned.
2:33 *Melee port priority moment*
9:54 What is up with E-Honda being considered trash tier in every game he's in, yet Sagat's the complete opposite?
Honda is actually good in CvS2, he just takes a little bit of getting used to.
@@SuperQuanBros Finally he gets some respect.
30 min is wild, what an amazing video
sagats portrait is a callback to the silent fart grin from street fighter 1
of all the portraits idk why nishimura referenced sf1 sagat but i guess they're both assholes in their respective games. she cooks with the art tho
We need the Capcom vs SNK collection for the love of God and then cvs3
I like how the 18:30 moment was louder than the actual video 😂
Amazing video, I love this kind of content !!
I haven't made a video in this format before so I'm surprised it turned out as well as it did.
That Sho'ouken spam is hilarious
14:50
a decent bit of A-groove CCs are essentially 1 move spam (paint the fence, ken step kick, haohmaru heavy slash, etc) so sakura's definitely not alone
@@SuperQuanBros Yeah but Sakura's breaks your guard and does so much chip and essentially nearly the same damage as getting it!!!!
More busted crap like: roll super (Sagat level 2 safe, Yamazaki level 2s true 50/50), cross-up Level 3 Blanka super, Cammy canceling her Level 3 off s.HK whiff puninsh, linking her Level 3 after close s.HP (+10)/far s.HP (+9)/cr.MP (+7), or link close s.HP into s.HK xx Level 3, A-groove Claw in general
oh yea if i mentioned every little detail and nugget of knowledge i know about cvs2 this video would be less like 30 minutes and more like 30 hours. there's so much to know about this game.
@@SuperQuanBros incoming part 2 why not?
