Sad thing is, Maynerd said in interview that the album was finished completely in 2009 but, he didn't think it was really good enough so, self-doubt caused us to wait an extra 20 years for it. I think the album was done and being cursed for 10 years, & that's how they got every Top 10 spot on the day the album dropped. No other band has done that.
Its a matter of all the elements surrounding your listening experience honestly. Push It from Aenima is my all time favorite mostly because I get a heavy dose of nostalgia from every listen, and it was the first Tool song that made me love their lengthy, ever evolving song style
@@dutchmastah07 Agreed but the Album as a whole really is soo fucking good. Descending is the best song then Pnuema then Invincible then 7empest then Fear Inoculum and then Culling voices. Chocolate Chip Trip is not really a song but listening to the album as a whole on spotify is incredible if you have the time.
It was the same way with Lateralus. That album spiked the fan count by a huge margin, and OGTs were pissed that the new fans didn’t even know about the previous work.
Laughing, that is true. That is my only complaint about Tool is I wish there were a few more albums out but I’ve loved them ever since the early 90s end it was a long wait when they were dropping an album every two or four years but 13 was torture.
It's funny how this song has so much relevance right now. There are meanings on many different levels. But words like "Contagion, I exhale you" and "Bless this Immunity" gives you chills. Tool has always been ahead of their time.
Dude this struck me a couple months ago during all this. Specifically "Exhale you" and "Inhale/Exhale" since our world has been rocked and fear is rampant of a respiratory virus.
I remember getting up in the morning, getting ready for work, knowing new music from Tool was about to drop. A new single, after waiting, and waiting, and waiting for 13 years. I had my Bluetooth speaker set up, in the bathroom; and as I turned on the faucet, to take a shower, I heard those opening synthesizers, and then Adam's guitar swells. The attention and focus on what I was hearing was so intense; as if my life depended on not missing even a second. I remained in the hot shower for the duration of the song, just soaking in the hot water, bobbing my head up and down; eyes shut. I didn't even wash my hair or body. I just stood and listened. Once it was over, I finished bathing, and tried to process what I just heard. I wasn't exactly sure how to react to it. It was different. It was fresh. It was interesting. But I just wasn't sure what exactly I heard. Luckily, I work in a place that allows me to wear headphones while I do my job. I probably listened to this song 30 times the day it premiered, but it was maybe the third or fourth listen where I realized just how incredible it is. It's a ride 🔥🔥🔥
Those tears you wiped away, I've shed those tears. I get chills every time I see someone react like that to Tool, it's so familiar. Awesome reaction, boys 👍🤘
My favorite song from Tool is Push it. The ebb and flow of the song is majestic. The drumming is madness, lyrically genius, and just such a ride.. Fear Inoculum is my second favorite for one main reason... Maynards voice is like an instrument in the band, he blends with the music which seams unique to the rest of Tool's songs.
The best Tool song is the one that is vibrating close enough for my ears to pick up the vibrations. I've been a fan since 1996 and I've gave that question serious thought - this is the best answer I can give you.... and that's the truth (the only exceptions would be some of the segue tracks, which I usually consider a part of the song before or after).
I heard the early release of this song, after breaking up with a gf of five years and living back with my mom for the summer... Completely melted my angst and I put it on repeat for days... Tool definitely wanted this record to be therapeutic.
I recommend when you react to more songs of the Lateralus album, listening to disposition, reflection and triad together. It’s essentially one big song. Looking forward to continue the journey.
Reflection is one of my favorites from the entire catalog. The first time I ever heard it was when they played it live the night Lateralus was released and it was an indescribable experience.
And after they've listened to the entire album, they Discovery the secret song sequence and their brains Will be scattered across the floor once more XD
You guys dont understand how long us die-hard Tool fans waited for new Tool lol. I got married, graduated college, started my career, had two kids, and got a promotion between their last two albums. I almost shed a tear when I heard the first note of this song lol.
Fun fact: in the verse where Maynard says "my own......mitosis" is exactly the halfway part of the song. Mitosis is the process of cell division, dividing into two.
"Reflection" off of Lateralus. ...is my favorite Tool song. The best?? Maybe. Just because it's so unexpected and gentle. Shows that Tool can rock the fuck out but also be suuuuuper fuckin chill.
This one has a bit of special memory for me, as i was at Hong Kong Airport bar in the middle of the protests waiting for plane to London to see Bro and Sis this was just released and I was just blown away. I reckon I listened to this 10 times straight and blown away each time!!!!! By the way this is probably your best summary of a TooL song!!! I requested this from you guys and was not let down. For me being a serious TooL fan since 96 when AEnima came out it's great to see you guys live in your progression of discovering TooL
Tool is a band you look at and are just floored by how clearly you can see an evolution. From the first days of Maynard using music as a way to let out his frustration anger and sadness in the world back in '91, to now with music like Fear Inoculum and Lateralus exploring the steps beyond after you've overcome your own demons and vices. Truly a wonderful evolution to experience.
Lateralus is the greatest Tool song of all time. I love them all to death, but Lateralus is just... On a different level. It epitomizes everything Tool and will always keep me thinking outside the box
I work in rock radio, and I was able to see, hold, and listen to this album ONE HOUR before it hit stores. TOOL was in absolute control of the release! I was as stunned as I see you are. When I went on air, I almost couldn't explain what I'd heard. I just pushed the button and played the entire album. Watching you guys is almost as good as listening to this the first day. I LOVE your reactions!!🤘
Same, Tool songs go from great, to incredible, to life changing over time. My favorite album is Aenima. Bought it the day it came out, 24 yrs ago. Eulogy has always been my fav, followed by 46&2, Stinkfist, & Push it. It took me 24 years to realize after Eulogy, my second favorite track is Jimmy. Always liked it. But now as a 44 yr old, it means so much more to me.
Rob Riginio Yes!!! Also. Like Undertow, I listened to the first half of that album over and over again. Then years later the second half revealed itself and then I spent years skipping the first 6 tracks just to get to the meat and potatoes of the album. Their albums are so much more than the sum of their parts. Timeless gift.
Jimmy H. So true, I’ve done that with so many albums. The first side is so incredible its hard to even get to the second side. Like you said it could be years before you dedicate the time to absorb the rest of the songs. Undertow is a classic example. Intolerance, Prison Sex, Sober, Bottom, & Crawl Away are all so amazing I didnt realize how great the rest was until AFTER Lateralus came out!!
They opened with this and the shivers that went down my spine and hairs standing up when Maynard starting singing.. It was everything ive seen of tool since the first time in 98.. Amazing..

Answering your question, for me their greatest song is one that you've already covered: Lateralus. I was literally blown away in 2001 when I first heard it. But you are doing absolutely right keeping the best ones to the end. You want to end on a high note. You are also very right on not watching videos while listening to the music, they disturb the experience. I'm still curious to see your reaction to Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned (better listen to them together). On first listen I was like, "what the fuck is this shit?" But after the years I've come to appreciate them a lot. Seeing how you "understand" Tool's music at first listen, it is clear that it will be a high point in this RUclips adventure of yours.
11:21 duuuuuude that double headbang at the drop is what made it for me for this video. These dudes have been in tune with TOOL for a while and I appreciate their continued support for the band and their music
TT Jerkoff is a must listen for SMOKEY. To me this is the most raw and in your face track that the band has ever recorded. The band rarely plays it. Maynard says ANGER is being constructive and HATE is being destructive. The bonus is it's live off of Salival. Please consider it for next TOOLS-DAY. 🤞✌
The thing I fucking love to death about TOOL & Maynard is the depth of composition. every piece is like an intricate sculpture wrought of melody & emotion.
It's not my favorite on this album, but still holds a special place. Waiting for 13 years for new Tool music, and then hearing this as the first single. Well, that was something.
I heard somewhere that FI was ready to go in 09, but Maynard had 2nd thoughts about it being all it could/should be. He kept putting off releasing it for 10 years, then finally gifted us with it. They knocked every other artist off Billboard's Top 10 on the day FI dropped. All other bands are just practicing. Tool is what music is and should be, imo
I just love how you both prepare to go on the journey. That is what Tool is all about. Getting absorbed into the music itself and listening just to listen.
The timing on this song reaches a crazy grey area at one point in the song where it is impossible to tell in which time signature they are playing for a couple of seconds. It still sounds great which amazes me every time I listen
Eulogy is my all time fav tool song. I will never forget listening to it on a kick ass car stereo blazing with the boys...that intro blew my mind and ever since then it has been my fav. I havent heard it live yet though..maybe one day
A Perfect Circle: • The Outsider • Weak and Powerless • The Noose • The Hollow • Passive • Pet Puscifer: • Conditions of my Parole • The Mission - M is for Milla • Rev22:20 - Don’t Shoot the Messenger Thanks I love you guys 💜🥰
Lateralus is my favorite TOOL song. This is why... FEED MY WILL TO FEEL THIS MOMENT URGING ME TO CROSS THE LINE. REACHING OUT TO EMBRACE THE RANDOM. REACHING OUT TO EMBRACE WHATEVER MAY COME! If I was a baseball ball player, this would be my walk up song.
Listening to Tool is like transcending time and space to a higher plain of existence. Also a great way of putting it. "With music this caliber, you see with your third eye."
TT the first track to pleasure our ears in 13 years. These 4 guys took progressive rock to the next level with this LP. This album features some of Danny's and Adam's best work. Oh ya Justin and Maynard are killing it as well. ✌
Trash Talkers, Good reaction. I enjoyed it. This song is just beautifully wild, from start to finish. What a combination of sounds! One of my favorite songs of Tool has always been Jambi (since its 2006 release). It is absolutely pure energy.
One of my all time fav’s is the live version of “push it” on saliva. I was very fortunate to see them preform it live in San Antonio many years ago!!!!
14:01 - boyyyy, once this section hits during my workout and Maynard gets into "Exorcise the spectacle...purge me and evacuate, venom and the fear that binds me" up until the end I'm physically spent. That section is just so damn groovy and powerful before it starts to get heavy, and I just feel incapable of taking a break throughout the whole thing - and afterward I can barely breathe.
For me, all time fav is The Grudge. Something about the way it builds. Every instrument firing on all cylinders. it just hits on a visceral level. makes me wanna move like a crazy person. "saturn comes back around!"
First off, I wanna give a shoutout to y’all for doing a real react video to Tool. I think a lot of people try to, but there’s a lot of density to their music all the way from the composition to the instrumentals and finally the lyrical content. Some people just can’t break it all down and y’all do an awesome job at that whereas other people come out at the end of the song and just say “that was lit” and leave it at that. As far as perfect/favorite Tool song mine has been H. since the first time I heard it on the radio. You can translate the lyrics to mean a million different things but to me (maybe just cause of my life at the time when I first heard it, it’s about an addiction. Specifically it resonates as a heroin addiction. Once again, it could be personal bias. I swear though, you can go through all the motions from that rush to the feel dirties and then a cleat headed reflection on darker days.
Try to imagine how we all felt, 13 years, then this drops, the anticipation was almost painful. Some were disappointed, I loved it from the start. Then to see them live for the first time for me was a definite bucket list item ticked off the list.
A Perfect Circle- Counting Bodies Like Sheep... There is a USMC Moto video floating around that goes along with that song and for a young Marine back in the day that song and video combo made all us young kids at that time harder than woodpecker lips!!!
Y’all have to listen to the studio version of descending. You listened to the live version, which is good, but it’s a sub par recording. The studio version is phenomenal
I agree with what you guys say about the videos while listening to these songs for the first time. It sensory overload and you miss alot. Once you get to know the songs, then set some time aside for yourselves to experience the videos. Throws in a fresh perspective.
Remember, this song was the first new material tool fans he’s s in like 13 yrs. to say it was paradigm shifting is an understatement. I remember being overcome with nostalgia for days long gone.....
Lateralus and Pnuema are my favorite two songs of Tool. Just the lyrics and complexity to of the songs, both are just incredible. All members shine in these tracks in my opinion
I love revisiting Tool songs after that Pneuma drum cam video...now that I can picture Danny Carey's drum setup, I can definitely appreciate the percussion of the album on a much higher level. These guys are masters of their craft. ^_^
Invincible . If there was one 4 ever and ever on repeat .They really have so many though ! Need a different Tool at different times but you definitEly need a Tool to fix Everything .😎🤘🤘
Was at the Portland show on March 11th 2020 the night the world shut down. It. was. epic. Everybody in the crowd knew it was something special. The Governor of Oregon shuttered the state via executive order when we were inside. The show went on. Hands down the best concert I have ever been to, and I was at Metallica Seattle 89.
The wait will be worth it... it'll be very satisfying when they finally get to that and others like the patient, vicarious, reflection and...rosetta stoned. But otherwise, I'm just enjoying the ride.
OneOverPrime Rosetta Stoned is one of the best songs they ever did. And it gets ZERO attention. I would give anything to hear that live. I see them live in multiple cities on every tour and they always play The Pot or Jambi and they need to stop. Rosetta Stoned and Right In Two need to be played. Much better songs.
Whenever I hear "calculating steps away from you" my mind is very powerfully transported back to my childhood to a dim image of my thirteen year old self reflected off of a pane glass window on a rainy day at a church compound in rancho palos verdes. This song makes me believe in magic.
Guy's love your reactions, keep it up. Tool is the most diverse band I have ever had the privilege to listen to. They take you to different dimensions each with a different emotion and emphasis. DMT style. Wow
Before I start watching, I want to say that I look forward to your Tool Tuesday videos so much, guys! Thank you, and keep up the great work. Now to open the book!
This whole album is great. I know you’ve done some songs off of this album already, but definitely check out Descending and the album version (not the Danny Carey drum version) of Pneuma.
When they released this song i legit teared up. First tool song in 14 tears and it truly had a profound effect on me. Side note the video for Parabol.Parabola is amazing...i actually would recommend watching it with the video
Inoculates are also used in gardening and wine making. Inoculates are used during seed germination to promote beneficial bacterial growth and to help in the fermentation process of wine and alcohol. Maynard is heavily into both farming and wine making. The reference “fear inoculum” might refer to a germination of fear in your mind and how the fear spreads like a contagion
Love this one. I love the musicality and arrangement of this song. The build up and the mellow vibe it has. Takes you on that mental ride of emotions that Tool does so well. Leaves you wanting more. I love it. Great reaction guys. Also i think this song is perfect for the new Tool listener. It's one of their more chill , easy to follow songs in my opinion and makes you want to listen to it over and over again. And it just gets better and better. Cant wait to hear yall do Parabol & Parabola. Its definitely my top 5 favorite Tool songs. As well as wings for Marie 1&2, Lateralus, right in two, and invincible. ✌😍
Dear trash talkers. I have followed you since your first tool reaction and I totally feel your way of getting it as it is extremely relatable. After a lot of thought, I would say reflection is my favourite track and I hope you guys can do it too. The song doesn't get much love, but I am certain that the more you look into it, you will definitely love it. Being an indian the way tool has incorporated indian instruments into this song is just amazing. Keep spiralling out
The pinnacle of all of Tool's work as a band in my opinion is Parabol & Parabola. Through both songs, he's talking about how we are our own higher power and the ups and downs of familiarity with life itself
I got married had 3 kids and then divorced waiting for this album.

One does not simply state the "best" tool song.
I agree 💯%. Maybe the best song for you, today.
Fear Inoculum was a Primer song for 2020. About fear, contagion, distancing steps, recasting the truth in your own way. This song was prophetic.

The groove Justin puts out in this song is amazing
I’m with you on this. The groove is unreal on this track. So well crafted the guitar and bass lines weaving between each other is beautiful

They knocked every other artist off Billboard's Top 10 on the day FI dropped. All other bands are just practicing. Tool is what music is and should be, imo
I just love how you both prepare to go on the journey. That is what Tool is all about. Getting absorbed into the music itself and listening just to listen.
Imo , reflection is Tool's stairway to heaven so that's my favorite right there. Great reaction again, guys!👍👍👍
Tool's music has a way of being expressed with tears. (Someone elses comment) "Bless this community" x
The timing on this song reaches a crazy grey area at one point in the song where it is impossible to tell in which time signature they are playing for a couple of seconds. It still sounds great which amazes me every time I listen
I love that section
The greatest is probably lateralus. The thought, Lyrics, crescendo. The perfect encapsulation of tool
There's an old adage regarding Tool...
"What's your favorite Tool song?"
"Which one is playing?"
Eulogy is my all time fav tool song. I will never forget listening to it on a kick ass car stereo blazing with the boys...that intro blew my mind and ever since then it has been my fav. I havent heard it live yet though..maybe one day
A Perfect Circle:
• The Outsider
• Weak and Powerless
• The Noose
• The Hollow
• Passive
• Pet
Puscifer:
• Conditions of my Parole
• The Mission - M is for Milla
• Rev22:20 - Don’t Shoot the Messenger
Thanks I love you guys 💜🥰
Lateralus is my favorite TOOL song. This is why...
FEED MY WILL TO FEEL THIS MOMENT URGING ME TO CROSS THE LINE. REACHING OUT TO EMBRACE THE RANDOM. REACHING OUT TO EMBRACE WHATEVER MAY COME!
If I was a baseball ball player, this would be my walk up song.
Damn guys. The reverence you have for TOOLs music is awesome.
Adam definitely took a big step forward as an already excellent guitarist. Very very creative work and insanely confident in his lead writing.
Trash Talkers,
Good reaction.
I hope they do this song, but do the album version first, it makes the live one better
Personally, I think "Pnuema" is the best song on this album.
For me, all time fav is The Grudge. Something about the way it builds. Every instrument firing on all cylinders. it just hits on a visceral level. makes me wanna move like a crazy person. "saturn comes back around!"
Y’all should really just react to the full album in its entirety. It’s pure perfection.
I didn't like the choco chip trip, tho
We need to get these subs up so Hollywood can get a new chair!
The first time I heard this song I was driving with my son. I pulled over and we absorbed it. I was blessed to have that moment with him.
The greatest TOOL song is Right in two. It depicts humans perfectly.
The acoustic version by Beard of Harmony is awesome, too
Remember, this song was the first new material tool fans he’s s in like 13 yrs. to say it was paradigm shifting is an understatement. I remember being overcome with nostalgia for days long gone.....
First song I fell in love with off of FI🥰 !!
Lateralus and Pnuema are my favorite two songs of Tool. Just the lyrics and complexity to of the songs, both are just incredible. All members shine in these tracks in my opinion
Yasssss!!!! Masterpiece. Can't wait 🙌🙌🙌🙌
See you then
I love revisiting Tool songs after that Pneuma drum cam video...now that I can picture Danny Carey's drum setup, I can definitely appreciate the percussion of the album on a much higher level.
Here I sit... Still waiting on Parabol/Parabola. Requested from the FIRST time you did TOOL. Can't lie... I ain't mad though!
I'm still waiting on Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. Sucks to be us I guess.
@@oneoverprime1608 well. It would suck if they weren't doing TOOL at all! So I guess we are still winning in some form and fashion! 🤣
The wait will be worth it... it'll be very satisfying when they finally get to that and others like the patient, vicarious, reflection and...rosetta stoned. But otherwise, I'm just enjoying the ride.
@@jtrem08 for sure!!!
“Third-eye music” seen and felt through the mind’s eye.
Bless this immunity
Inoculates are also used in gardening and wine making. Inoculates are used during seed germination to promote beneficial bacterial growth and to help in the fermentation process of wine and alcohol. Maynard is heavily into both farming and wine making. The reference “fear inoculum” might refer to a germination of fear in your mind and how the fear spreads like a contagion
Greatest Tool song is Lateralus, in my opinion. Disposition/reflection/triad is their most epic achievement
disposition/reflection/triad are the greatest because they make me cry every time without fail
Tool: Schism and a very close second Jambi
I love how much these guys appreciate this band knowing that they are rappers and can appreciate another stile that kicks ass
Puscifer is a must. “Mama sed”
Reflection** hands down is my dmt tripping music
Beautiful :3
That's one of their most underrated, IMO.
Have to do the holy gift disposition Reflection triad all together to get the full experience
Keep spiralling out
Fun fact: at 5 mins and 10 seconds, exactly halfway through this track, Maynards says the word 'mitosis'.
He’s so damn clever, isn’t he?
Awesome fact......
The pinnacle of all of Tool's work as a band in my opinion is Parabol & Parabola. Through both songs, he's talking about how we are our own higher power and the ups and downs of familiarity with life itself
The patient, please, it got me through the darkest times.
Yup. Me too
Makes three of us.
Same, and still does
Love watching your Tool-gasms. Great to see others taking the journey. The best Tool song of all time is the last one you listened to.
Tool was ahead of our time with Fear Inoculum.. Incredible band and love your guys reactions!
