With all the dlcs final smashes, they went pretty damn hard on the references to original games, and it pains me that max didn't really take into consideration the references for the games i actually like lol. The extra touch on joker's final smash is unbelievably cool, and it even changes depending on the color of mementos, like his other victory screen. And the fact that pyra and mythra got different final smashes, with each of them being their level 4 from the original game was pretty cool, but i think it would be cooler if they added in the effect of you finishing a chain combo with each of them, using the base combos of triple fire or triple photon or even the more complicated combos, who knows. A bit disapointed, but definitely a 7 at least
Some i can agree with but my personal favorite is Terry’s. I haven’t even played any game he is in and it’s still my favorite. The camera angle, the voice acting, the timing of buster wolf. It’s pure gold.
How is Cloud's a ten and Joker's not a ten? C'mon Max... I love FF7 and I've never played P5, but that's just silly. Joker has the sickest FS in the game. It literally has a special ending.

All Out Attack is my favorite purely because of the extra detail of it cutting to the results if it K.O.'s everyone else on their last stock like the after-battle screen in Persona 3-5. It's fucking amazing. Sephiroth would be my favorite if it lasted a full minute like it does in FFVII
All Out Attack has probably the most effort put into it because of the different combinations of character portraits and voice lines used at random, as well as the detail of finishing a match with it How Hero's was given a point higher than it is beyond me tbh
Max saying Cloud’s FS is a 10/10 “unbiased” because it recreated the scene from Advent Children… But he gives Joker FS, a recreation from Persona 5 with UI and visual flare, an 8/10… But of course “the references don’t make it more flashy”

Kazuya final smash would've been a 10/10 if he did his 10 hit combo into earth wind god fisting you into the air then finishing you off with devil beam. It's a 6 for me
Sephiroth has one of the most impressive final Smash, however for cloud he is clearly biased and for mention FF7 is also my favorite game of all time but cloud is meh...
never played ff7 but Sephiroth's special was dope(9 or 10/10)! Cloud was a point or two too high by being a 10/10(probably a 7 or 8 for me) and joker deserved a 9/10 or 10/10 imo or at least tied with Sephiroth. The chat imo for Kazuya was very biased(they said 9 or 10/10) and almost seemed like they were trying to please max by trying to be fans of the FGC(and in doing so to please max's love for FGC) and fortunately max still gave an honest opinion for Kazuya which was a 6 to 7/10 because 10/10s are way to high for that final smash even for tekken fans.
The best part of Sephiroth, Final Smash is the damn equations. Imagine being both physically nuked by a Supernova and mentally nuked by his sick ass theorems and math 😂
What a nice fella, that Sephiroth guy. Sending a meteor to smash into and destroy a planet, such a kind gesture. The thought and effort, that’s just so unbelievably kind.
There was an interview where Sakurai said their still working on more balance changes after Sora's release, but part of the team is already starting to transfer to different projects
Alright Max, I love you, but Hero's does not deserve to be a higher rank than Jokers, lol. Jokers is just straight up a 10/10 imo. It's a perfect recreation, it actually effects the end card if you win with it... yeah, it's amazing.
I mean it's hard to beat Sephiroth's cause it was essentially a flashier version of his Japanese Supernova from FF7 and he blows up the freaking sun and the Earth to get you.
I just realized how hilariously out of character Sora's final smash is, like he's just dumping random characters into the Darkness and closing the door behind them so they get killed by Heartless, and it's hilarious that Disney approved of that.
My favourite part about Sephiroth's final smash is that the first shot perfectly recreates the battle with Safer Sephiroth with both the camera angle and where the characters are standing, espeically if you manage to hit 3 opponents with it, they stand there exactly like the party in FFVII does right before they get Supernova'd
I think the only other character with a final smash as good as Sephiroth's is Ridley's. The fact that he smacks the opponent onto the side of Samus' ship and then blows up the ship, killing Samus and whoever his opponent was, is so sick.
In my opinion I think Sora has one of the most underwhelming final smashes, it was hard carried here by the ending KO part which happens normally Out of anything they could have chosen to take from Kingdom Hearts, they decided to make him lock someone behind a literal big door, lock the door, then explode it and do a pose I just think it could have been so much more
I'm suprised Byleth's Final Smash ranked higher than Pyra and Mythra and as much as some others. It's just a big hit with the Sothis png in the background. Not even a good reference to anything in Three Houses.
@AT Productions planetary detonation (and an actually good reference) > palutenajr.png + pan tool > pyra/mytrha's final smash. Wouldn't even call p/m's final smash bad, just too basic.
@Lux Ignis I'm an extremely adamant Byleth defender, and even then... I think sothis.png is utterly indefensible as a Final Smash. Everything about it looks extremely low-quality, like a Brawl or Sm4sh Final Smash got ported directly to the new engine without remembering to update the particle effects or resolution. I certainly can't agree with putting down Min Min's one to elevate it, either.
@Lux Ignis The idea of using byleth's top attack and cranking it up even further is really cool on paper, but they did a pretty shite job at it. If they at least made the powering up part be more cinematic and dynamic instead of "haha sothis.png goes wheee" it would have been a 7 (or maybe more).

Buster Wolf getting an 8 was robbery. The impact in that super is sublime. I think it damn sure stands up there with Cloud's "Ragnarok, except he actually did it first".
I feel like Joker's final smash was wrongly judged compared to Sephiroth's. In terms of representation and creativity, Joker's final smash is arguably the best. 10/10. It is short, sweet, and simple. Straight to the point like how Sakurai intended each final smash to be; needless to say, it does its job. The creativity is unique in a way, that coupled with the near-perfect representation it has, it rips the finisher straight out of the source game. Even going down to including the splash screen in the results if pulled off correctly, something that most of the final smashes do not have. And also considering how big of a deal Joker was with his inclusion, Joker set the high standard of what a DLC trailer/representation/inclusion is.
Gotta give Piranha Plant, Pyra, Mythra & Kazuya for being SSBU DLC characters that don’t have Final Smashes that don’t take place exclusively in a cutscene
Max, I love you to bits, but if you're really about to claim Joker's final Smash isn't a 10 while also saying Omnislash Very. 5 is, just... Naw bud, haha.
Considering Joker's had different variants with different characters, voice lines and UI, and P5 all-out attack is stylish AF I'd rate it higher. But I am a Persona player.
So, we almost certainly won’t get a roster like this in Smash 6. However….what if they just ported this game to their next system and added a few more characters? Would that be like a loop-hole that would allow them to keep all these existing ones without having to re-acquire all the rights again, as well as add new characters again? I’m not terribly familiar with if that could work or not.
No that wouldn't work. You're porting a game, in other words reselling the game, this you'd need to renew the licenses to keep them in. I can see the first party characters like Byleth, Pyra/Mythra, and Min-Min staying in. Everyone else is a maybe or a no.
Joker is 8/10 despite being by far the most true to the original final smash in the game (only difference is the stars which is blood in the og game) but Sephi is a 12/10 with dollarstore supernova, alright....
Cloud's is like a VII/X It should have been a cutscene with zoom ins against Sephiroth. It's no different than any other slash rush if you dont get the reference.

The great thing about Smash is almost every Final Smash is a 10/10 to someone.
Like Joker is an EASY 11/10 for me being such a perfect recreation of the All-Out Attack combined with the fact that all of the P5 party members outside Akechi can show up during it. Then you add the special victory screen for killing with it and it's a 15/10.
So much love and attention to detail was put into this content that a fan of any series can look at their favorite character and just be proud of the work Sakurai and his team put into all of this.
Unless you're a sonic fan. Or a Kirby fan
Talk about biased towards Persona 5
@@pondscum9363 well, Sonic''s final Smash is Reference to Sonic Generations when you get S - Rank as Super Sonic. ıt's not an "Whoa" reference but it made me smile.
@@pondscum9363 Kirby's fs is fine. Who said otherwise
@@onewingedakuma6835 talk about a completely redundant comment.
It's not biased to like something or be impressed with it. Max giving Sephiroth such massive scores don't have to be seen as biased when everything about them is genuinely really good.
How did you find a way to be a complete tool on a completely positive comment?
If Joker wanted a 10/10, he should've recreated a scene from Final Fantasy 7 expanded universe material. That's just what it takes, Max doesn't make the rules.
joker is a 0/10 to me, just like everything else in his fighter pack.
@@青雷の戦士 nah, man. You are being too generous, Jokers stage isn't a compete 1/1 recreation of mementos do I'm gonna have to give his FS a -5/10
You don’t have to pretend Joker’s final smash is the best in the game. King K Rool and Ridley are literally right there lol
@PjaxKorea If there’s anything cooler than big lasers, it’s certainly not whatever the hell Joker’s final smash is…
My boy Max rated the 1 to 1 recreation of P5 all out attack an 8
If you played P5 it's the best xD
Yeah I haven’t even played P5 and I was pretty shocked he gave it less than a 9. For me it’s an 11.
@@gasparguruoftime5475 And the slashy slashy Cloud Final Smash is clearly an unbiased 10/10
@@c0mplex_Ale I mean, the Advent Children update of it is a legit 11/10 for me too. The original one is kinda just ok. Doesn’t resemble the OG game very much.
I really hope the best of 2021 video has the part where Max missed Joker's final smash and just stared at the camera. That shit was hilarious
I swear to god, your bias sometimes hurts my soul max.
Safer Sephiroth hits you with the power of ALGEBRA!
Dude I didnt forget that Piranha Plant is in this game, he's one of my mains! That little potted plant bastard is stupid fun for some reason and I love it
Of course, everyone will grade the supers higher than they are for the characters we like.
Yeah a lot of people complaining Max rated things too low are fans of that thing. I assure you everyone in his chat ranking Kazuya's 8-10/10 were all Tekken fans. It's hard not to love the thing you love.
@@StarkMaximum that’s what I’m saying lol
@@StarkMaximum I mean he definitely did rate Joker's FS too low. I'm not even a persona fan and I'm still impressed that they recreated the thing from the game and even gave it a unique win screen, if that doesn't deserve a 10 then I don't know what does.
@@DeLuxonn after an AOA it’ll actually do that, that makes a 10 on the spot
@@DeLuxonn Wow they made the thing from the game, that’s unique and creative. Except wait it’s actually the opposite of that.
All Out Attack has probably the most effort put into it because of the different combinations of character portraits and voice lines used at random, as well as the detail of finishing a match with it
How Hero's was given a point higher than it is beyond me tbh
All this time, I never knew it did that on K.O. That's awesome!
I dropped everything to be here . I need this.
Same. I feel closure knowing Max gets to finally gets rate ALL the supers

Max saying Cloud’s FS is a 10/10 “unbiased” because it recreated the scene from Advent Children…
But he gives Joker FS, a recreation from Persona 5 with UI and visual flare, an 8/10…
But of course “the references don’t make it more flashy”
“His opinion differs from mine, so he’s wrong” is what I heard.
Inhale that copium.
@@sarcasticsuperjerk18 The issue I have is the “Unbiased” part. Max a lot of the times act like he is unbiased, but he is really not. Which is fine but just say something like “this is my opinion”
@@bigwave1713 The thing is no one can be truly unbiased. We as human beings think and express ourselves with any degree of feeling and depth no matter the circumstance. It’s ridiculous when someone is trying to say they’re being completely unbiased about anything when that isn’t true. There’s always a certain level of bias in anything.
Am I the only one who saw the "unbiased" part as sarcasm?
3:19 It's mostly established on UI/visual flare
5:01 It's just really effective camera angles and really cool shots
If it ain't exactly what P5 and the newer KOF are, respectively
He praises the Sephiroth one so much but its probably the worst "movie" one in this video. The timing is so damn fast it robs the explosion of any actual impact.
@@chowellith At least its more visually interesting than byleth's.
@@Hatsworthful True
@@chowellith He's free to have his own opinions and biases. Though I wasn't criticizing Max either, just reaffirming these points because it exactly explains the design philosophies for the respective game's supers and thought it was interesting, with persona's limited animation combined with spectacular UI and FX design and what KOF14 and 15 does to enhance supers that otherwise would've just been a chain of specials
@@chowellith well that's just kunda wrong, but we can be wrong sometimes
The FF7 bias is strong in this video.
Kazuya final smash would've been a 10/10 if he did his 10 hit combo into earth wind god fisting you into the air then finishing you off with devil beam. It's a 6 for me
Not fair, Sephiroth had an easy win because he is too biased to FF 7 xD
Well I mean even objectively it’s a 10/10. It’s like the best super in the game
Sephiroth has one of the most impressive final Smash, however for cloud he is clearly biased and for mention FF7 is also my favorite game of all time but cloud is meh...
Of course Sephiroth's is amazing but you know it's biased when he rates Joker's Final Smash lower than Hero's.
@@PortalTraveler true
never played ff7 but Sephiroth's special was dope(9 or 10/10)! Cloud was a point or two too high by being a 10/10(probably a 7 or 8 for me) and joker deserved a 9/10 or 10/10 imo or at least tied with Sephiroth. The chat imo for Kazuya was very biased(they said 9 or 10/10) and almost seemed like they were trying to please max by trying to be fans of the FGC(and in doing so to please max's love for FGC) and fortunately max still gave an honest opinion for Kazuya which was a 6 to 7/10 because 10/10s are way to high for that final smash even for tekken fans.
this rating is basically, if it's not Final fantasy, it's mostly 8 and below.
The best part of Sephiroth, Final Smash is the damn equations. Imagine being both physically nuked by a Supernova and mentally nuked by his sick ass theorems and math 😂
Alright, but what if they wanted to be REALLY faithful and make Supernova two minutes long?
Two minutes long and literally can't kill.
Banjo's is a perfectly fair score. I like Sora's for being so simple (and clean) even if there's a TON of stuff you could've used for his FS.
Blame Disney for this
I see what you did there
Cloud’s SUPER is Advent Children all over again. AWESOME 👏🏼
Advent Children is the 'Other M' of Final Fantasy 7
Change my mind.
@@Zangelin
I’m not a big Final Fantasy fan, I simply enjoyed that movie.
@@Zangelin oh shut up
@@Zangelin honestly you’re right since both of them massacred their protagonist’s character and did irreparable damage to their respective franchise.
What a nice fella, that Sephiroth guy. Sending a meteor to smash into and destroy a planet, such a kind gesture. The thought and effort, that’s just so unbelievably kind.
I thought joker final smash would have been a 10 /10 based off the way Max uses persona sound effects in his vids lol
Sephiroth having the best smash is rightfully deserved
There was an interview where Sakurai said their still working on more balance changes after Sora's release, but part of the team is already starting to transfer to different projects
Man gave a j.peg the highest score, but gives Terry a lower score cut "its just camera work".
well you see Terry wasn't in FF7
Interesting how the Square Enix characters got the best final Smashes.
Alright Max, I love you, but Hero's does not deserve to be a higher rank than Jokers, lol. Jokers is just straight up a 10/10 imo. It's a perfect recreation, it actually effects the end card if you win with it... yeah, it's amazing.
I wish there were patches to update final smashes because Daisy, Young Link, Robin, and Byleth really need it.
Joker isn't from Final Fantasy, he's from Super Smash Brothers Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch
I mean it's hard to beat Sephiroth's cause it was essentially a flashier version of his Japanese Supernova from FF7 and he blows up the freaking sun and the Earth to get you.
I've been waiting for this for years! Your Smash 4's rate the supers was how I found you
I just realized how hilariously out of character Sora's final smash is, like he's just dumping random characters into the Darkness and closing the door behind them so they get killed by Heartless, and it's hilarious that Disney approved of that.
Nah, they'll be fine
That's not the interpretation I had. I figured he's just sealing the door to smash, trapping them in the game forever.
The "I Hit You And Drag You Into The Pain Dimension" episode of Rate the Super
The fact that Byleth’s png-ass ult was 1 point less than Jokers one-for-one recreation ult makes me question everything max has ever said
My favourite part about Sephiroth's final smash is that the first shot perfectly recreates the battle with Safer Sephiroth with both the camera angle and where the characters are standing, espeically if you manage to hit 3 opponents with it, they stand there exactly like the party in FFVII does right before they get Supernova'd
I feel like if Kazuya's had the explosion at the end like it did in T7, it could've been up a little more
I think the only other character with a final smash as good as Sephiroth's is Ridley's. The fact that he smacks the opponent onto the side of Samus' ship and then blows up the ship, killing Samus and whoever his opponent was, is so sick.
In my opinion
I think Sora has one of the most underwhelming final smashes, it was hard carried here by the ending KO part which happens normally
Out of anything they could have chosen to take from Kingdom Hearts, they decided to make him lock someone behind a literal big door, lock the door, then explode it and do a pose
I just think it could have been so much more
Young link says hi
King K. Rool murking you and whoever else on Donkey Kong's island out of spite is the best, the absolute Chad and the reference is amazing.
I'm suprised Byleth's Final Smash ranked higher than Pyra and Mythra and as much as some others. It's just a big hit with the Sothis png in the background. Not even a good reference to anything in Three Houses.
Pyra's Final Smash is just lame and bland.
@AT Productions planetary detonation (and an actually good reference) > palutenajr.png + pan tool > pyra/mytrha's final smash.
Wouldn't even call p/m's final smash bad, just too basic.
@@RaK0 Nah. They took her LV4 blade special from the original game and gave it some cinematic flair. Easy 8/10.
Terry's is still my personal favorite. You're right about the utility, but it feels so good landing one of those for some reason.
“From the popular Final Fantasy Series” your bout to piss of the whole fandom lol.
I want someone to call Cloud a Persona character unironically just to see Max's reaction.

The final smash of piranha plant is kinda neat because it resembles the first boss fight in Brawl. Nothing too crazy but I love whenever smash is referencing itself instead of other franchises
Sephiroth Mains everywhere: "Well done. See you at the *Reunion* "
Never clicked on a Rate The Super faster in my life!
I'm not feeling these ratings overall.
But Joker's should've been 10/10 for its accuracy and unique flare.
Skipped the ff7 segments since I already knew what he was gonna rate them. After reading the comments my assumption gets a 10/10.
I’ve been waiting patiently for this, the time has come
Max, I love you to bits, but if you're really about to claim Joker's final Smash isn't a 10 while also saying Omnislash Very. 5 is, just... Naw bud, haha.
Terry yelling about the big bus HAS to elevate it to at least 9/10
The fact that you give Piranha plant a 6/10 😭 it’s a ref to Subspace Emissary Piranha Plant
"I have a good feeling about this one."
No surprises there.
Considering Joker's had different variants with different characters, voice lines and UI, and P5 all-out attack is stylish AF I'd rate it higher.
But I am a Persona player.
that "reminder that he exists" that max says for piranha goes for me with baby bowser xD dont know why but i always forgett that he is in the game
Considering Xenoblade 2's entire gimmick is having tons of side party characters I find it insane they didn't get a MegaMan style Final Smash
I mean it makes sense. In the game, each Blade gets a super, and those were Pyra and Mythra's supers recreated very faithfully.
Max out here saying refferences dont matter, meanwhile hes gushing over ff7 like a baby, lmao
Because it's FF7, his favorite game ever.
" I'll just obliterate a planet for YOU in particular "
Put that on a Valentine
These DLC character supers are just incredible. 👌
I’d give nearly all these supers 10/10

Sephiroth destroy the planet. So I see a correct score
My favourites from this selection are Cloud, Sephiroth, and Terry Bogard.

Oh this would be neat
Cloud's is like a VII/X
It should have been a cutscene with zoom ins against Sephiroth. It's no different than any other slash rush if you dont get the reference.
Honestly, it’s pretty basic. There are so many better supers. I even like that it’s a Advent Children Reference, but it doesn’t ignore that it’s another slashy Smash. He should of gave it the same rating as greninja or Ike. I assume he gave them average rating cause he doesn’t care for those franchises, yet the smashes are identical to Clouds
