That seems to be a theme with most of these supers. The developers are going for direct references rather than trying to be creative and everything ends up being really boring.
I think the best way to describe the problem with these Supers is to imagine Sub Zero's Fatality freezing his opponent...and then the fatality ends. No shattering the ice, no kicking the head. Just freeze the enemy and end.

How the hell did they release this game with the special moves of all things in this condition? There is no impact, camera angles are all over the place, pacing is off, and ALL of them are missing a final beat that actually sells the damage of the hit. This is pathetic.

I always love seeing people's reactions to Luffy's Gear 4th form who don't regularly read/watch One Piece. It's such a fun take on the typical shonen powered-up form.
it's also a nice reference to essentially luffy taking on a gorilla looking form from the giant animals he fought against in training. Given his name and obvious references. It's definitely fitting
I'm surprised how much luffy has evolved. I always thought he was weak since he only had rubber powers but Dan was I proven wrong time and time again. Especially when gear second was introduced.

@Zak Deleon, you can put as much context to things as you want and they are still not a good super. the Izuku anime version? amazing! the game? its animation is poor, the impact is lame, and the camera works doesn't sell it. same goes with characters like Gon, Aizen, and pretty much every sucking sword wielder in the game. it may be a cool reference for those who watched and read the source material, but they are lame as hell as actual supers. you have to remember that this is a fighting game, and supers in fighting games are always meant to be the pinnacle of flashy cool shit that sends the room into hype mode when they finally land after a bad ass combo. most of these just don't carry that energy very well.
I think the worst part about this games supers is that almost NONE of them have any real impact finishes to them, big attacks don't feel like they hit as hard as they should at all because most finishers end abruptly just after they start up for some reason. I watch most of the anime from this game and none of them come close to capturing the original attacks they are trying to replicate at all, and you don't need to be an anime fan to understand that ether.

The way DIO & Jotaro activate their stands look absolutely gorgeous. You can literally see the 60fps when The World & Star Platinum come out. _Edit:_ and that quick dolly zoom milliseconds before he stops time makes it much more epic.
I love how 75% of the supers in this game are just blue balls. Nice effects, nice visuals (outside of some models), and cool build-up but then they just suck at the end, have no impact, or are just too short.
Am I the only one who feels like the vast majority of these supers are underwhelming, especially compared to previous shonen arena fighter games (the Ultimate Ninja Storm series is an excellent example of extremely over the top supers that are just stupid fun, imo)?
Goku didn't do the Genkidama in Blue. He went back to base before using it. Vegeta's Final Flash is referenced from the one he used against Cell, not one he used in the ToP. Being an accurate reference does not mean it needs to be the strongest thing that they do.
I mean, is that a suprise? Jump force isn't a competitively designed game. It's a generic liscensed anime arena fighter. Even with Pokken Max didn't exactly get that into it by virtue of it having Arena Fighter elements even though Pokken, unlike this, did have actual competitive fighting game elements and systems (and is a really well designed fighting game in general, it's a shame both the pokemon community and the FGC neglects it)

Look, I can understand getting annoyed with them not watching the anime or reading the manga, and therefore not having any context. Here's the thing though: they're still bad even when you have context. I have watched most of the anime represented here and was still super disappointed with the supers. They just feel weak, aren't animated well, and are way too fast with too many cuts. I get that you like them cause it makes you remember the scene from the series, but the supers shouldn't be a horribly edited reference. They need to be easily read, look impressive, and have actual impact. Don't forgive shitty work just because it reminds you of something better.

I agree with you whole heartily with everything you mentioned here. There was a few great ones but overall there was so much wasted potential with a lot of these characters. Cant recall his name at the moment but the chain user from hunter x hunters could have been such an amazing super, yet like the others, it was less then stellar to say the least. Overall I'm pretty disappointed with jump force as an entire game. It's not awful but it could have been so much better.
Honestly, They did Delaware-Detroit Smash and Black Meteorite so dirty in this game it almost makes me relieved they didnt add Tanjiro. Imagine how they would have screwed up Water Breathing-10th Form

Feel like this video shows how important context is to how cool a move is, and why jump force suffers as a result. In their own worlds, these moves are the strongest things in existence and have a whole show's worth of build up. Here some of the simpler ones just look kinda lame.

@Maveth The Reaper You are the very definition of a player who offers nothing useful in the way of constructive criticism and why games like these never improve because you dont see anything wrong with them. A lot of the finishers in this game don't have very good impact, they lead the player into thinking there'll be more to it, but then abruptly ends in a flaccid manner. A very good example is every character with a blade weapon; they mostly do sword strikes, then finish with a sword strike, and then some of them just have a ground impact of rubble or particle effects of some sort because without it, it looks even more dull. A lot of these characters have so much potential to have better looking moves, but they squandered that because "it doesn't matter so long as you get to play as the character you like" when really the number one thing to look forward too in these games is landing the finishers/supers because if you combo them then land it its super satisfying, but if the super/finisher looks uninteresting, flaccid, and has zero build up it's just not worth the time. Another example is are the characters who can shoot beams of any sort; why are they not taking a moment to build up that tension before releasing the attack, the animation for it is so quick it appears for a moment and is magically at full power then they fire it off, there's nothing satisfying about something like that. if the fights in the series were that fast they wouldn't be talked about or remembered like they are. Here's another: why the fuck is Gon's attack so flaccid, he goes into his aged up form, but then just as quickly as it appeared it's gone. Why doesn't he build up his Jan-Ken punch more, he does it to the extreme in the series, to the point where when it connects with his target you FEEL the hit, here it just feels like he hit air, or a doll. Here's the TL;DR of it: You don't know how to provide any constructive criticism for anything, thus you are just the type of player who mindlessly pays for something and doesn't actually understand how to analyze anything to make the game better, so the dev's will never know what to improve upon. You are the reason why games like this die out after a few months of popularity because of the aforementioned reasons above. The game has lame supers, and they should be improved upon to have more impact, and also some should be changed to better reflect the characters.
You guys are complaining their scores are too low cause they don't know the lore, but it's not about that. Every game they rate supers is SOLELY on visual appeal and epic impacts. Most of which these supers lacked, biased or not.
Psst, a lot of these supers are the characters’ ultimate moves lifted right from their anime/manga, they already have their own ultimates. Only one that is actually a disappointment was Asta’s, they could of done his way better.

The thing that bothers me most is when characters get knocked into the ground so hard that it cracks and leaves rubble everywhere; *_They literally just add rock models onto the floor and leave the ground beneath completely unchanged, so even if you fall onto a picnic blanket or whatever and rubble forms everywhere THE PICNIC BLANKET REMAINS COMPLETELY FINE!!_*
Thought that this was gonna be a decent celebration of Shonen Jump’s 50th anniversary, but Namco completely dropped the ball. Oh well, at least we still have Dragon Ball FighterZ to fill in the gap to some extent. It’s a miracle Max and the crew even did this considering how they love mocking anime at some point during their streams.

How the hell did they release this game with the special moves of all things in this condition? There is no impact, camera angles are all over the place, pacing is off, and ALL of them are missing a final beat that actually sells the damage of the hit. This is pathetic.
Cause they know weebs will anything with their favorite characters in it. Even if it's hot garbage.
So they know they don't need to put any effort in it.
This is like watching people who never played a nintendo game react to Smash Ults.

@Zak Deleon, you can put as much context to things as you want and they are still not a good super. the Izuku anime version? amazing! the game? its animation is poor, the impact is lame, and the camera works doesn't sell it. same goes with characters like Gon, Aizen, and pretty much every sucking sword wielder in the game. it may be a cool reference for those who watched and read the source material, but they are lame as hell as actual supers. you have to remember that this is a fighting game, and supers in fighting games are always meant to be the pinnacle of flashy cool shit that sends the room into hype mode when they finally land after a bad ass combo. most of these just don't carry that energy very well.

I think the worst part about this games supers is that almost NONE of them have any real impact finishes to them, big attacks don't feel like they hit as hard as they should at all because most finishers end abruptly just after they start up for some reason.
I watch most of the anime from this game and none of them come close to capturing the original attacks they are trying to replicate at all, and you don't need to be an anime fan to understand that ether.

Am I the only one who feels like the vast majority of these supers are underwhelming, especially compared to previous shonen arena fighter games (the Ultimate Ninja Storm series is an excellent example of extremely over the top supers that are just stupid fun, imo)?
because they're accurate references to the shows and not crazy over the top explosions with mde up power levels

I mean, is that a suprise? Jump force isn't a competitively designed game. It's a generic liscensed anime arena fighter. Even with Pokken Max didn't exactly get that into it by virtue of it having Arena Fighter elements even though Pokken, unlike this, did have actual competitive fighting game elements and systems (and is a really well designed fighting game in general, it's a shame both the pokemon community and the FGC neglects it)

Look, I can understand getting annoyed with them not watching the anime or reading the manga, and therefore not having any context. Here's the thing though: they're still bad even when you have context. I have watched most of the anime represented here and was still super disappointed with the supers. They just feel weak, aren't animated well, and are way too fast with too many cuts. I get that you like them cause it makes you remember the scene from the series, but the supers shouldn't be a horribly edited reference. They need to be easily read, look impressive, and have actual impact. Don't forgive shitty work just because it reminds you of something better.

I agree with you whole heartily with everything you mentioned here. There was a few great ones but overall there was so much wasted potential with a lot of these characters. Cant recall his name at the moment but the chain user from hunter x hunters could have been such an amazing super, yet like the others, it was less then stellar to say the least. Overall I'm pretty disappointed with jump force as an entire game. It's not awful but it could have been so much better.
Yugi should have had Exodia the Forbidden One as his ultra-win super.

Feel like this video shows how important context is to how cool a move is, and why jump force suffers as a result. In their own worlds, these moves are the strongest things in existence and have a whole show's worth of build up. Here some of the simpler ones just look kinda lame.

@@dizzyb2309 Even without taking that in mind, the supers are far better than the rest, because they have what the others lack, that last impact and force/finisher punch/explosion at the end, where most supers just fall flat after they are done or are just camera work.
Damn some of these comments are a little salty. It still doesn't matter, the supers lack any real "OOMPH" even if you understood the context.

@Maveth The Reaper You are the very definition of a player who offers nothing useful in the way of constructive criticism and why games like these never improve because you dont see anything wrong with them. A lot of the finishers in this game don't have very good impact, they lead the player into thinking there'll be more to it, but then abruptly ends in a flaccid manner.
A very good example is every character with a blade weapon; they mostly do sword strikes, then finish with a sword strike, and then some of them just have a ground impact of rubble or particle effects of some sort because without it, it looks even more dull.
A lot of these characters have so much potential to have better looking moves, but they squandered that because "it doesn't matter so long as you get to play as the character you like" when really the number one thing to look forward too in these games is landing the finishers/supers because if you combo them then land it its super satisfying, but if the super/finisher looks uninteresting, flaccid, and has zero build up it's just not worth the time.
Another example is are the characters who can shoot beams of any sort; why are they not taking a moment to build up that tension before releasing the attack, the animation for it is so quick it appears for a moment and is magically at full power then they fire it off, there's nothing satisfying about something like that. if the fights in the series were that fast they wouldn't be talked about or remembered like they are. Here's another: why the fuck is Gon's attack so flaccid, he goes into his aged up form, but then just as quickly as it appeared it's gone. Why doesn't he build up his Jan-Ken punch more, he does it to the extreme in the series, to the point where when it connects with his target you FEEL the hit, here it just feels like he hit air, or a doll.
Here's the TL;DR of it: You don't know how to provide any constructive criticism for anything, thus you are just the type of player who mindlessly pays for something and doesn't actually understand how to analyze anything to make the game better, so the dev's will never know what to improve upon. You are the reason why games like this die out after a few months of popularity because of the aforementioned reasons above.
The game has lame supers, and they should be improved upon to have more impact, and also some should be changed to better reflect the characters.

Psst, a lot of these supers are the characters’ ultimate moves lifted right from their anime/manga, they already have their own ultimates. Only one that is actually a disappointment was Asta’s, they could of done his way better.

You're supposed to be anime biased to like these supers, that's how this game works. You're supposed to be pleased with what a character can do, not with how they look while doing it. Deku did the best he could do, even of it wasn't the flashiest.

Thought that this was gonna be a decent celebration of Shonen Jump’s 50th anniversary, but Namco completely dropped the ball. Oh well, at least we still have Dragon Ball FighterZ to fill in the gap to some extent. It’s a miracle Max and the crew even did this considering how they love mocking anime at some point during their streams.
