whenever it uses an electric move (which now includes its Final Smash).
Watch its damage% throughout its clip in the video (7:36 to 7:58).
Pikachu, meanwhile, is fine & doesn't take damage like that (see 3:16).
Pikachu should also take damage because Volt Tackle has recoil, oh well.
I didn't realize this at first. I think I'll stop using Pichu :(
Remember, Pichu is learning to harness its electrical power properly but until then it will damage itself with any electric attacks, including (and especially) their final smash.

I actually find Mii Brawler’s final smash to be one of the most satisfying in the whole game. The length is just right so that it feels almost endless while not being too long, and the effects (especially sound) are so well done.
Even better if you use some of the mii voices. Like voice 7 set low I'm pretty sure sounds great
The sound effects and how malicious the beatdown looks make is VERY surprisingly good

Important to note: Ness's FS fires from the middle outward with some tracking, while Lucas's fires towards the middle.
Pikachu and Pichu zip in a confined area, while Diddy zips the whole screen in all directions, and Sonic zips horizontally only, but at faster speeds than Diddy. Pacman is slower, but has a huge hitbox to compensate.
You can also steer Lucas' final smash to an extent
