Makes me realise how lucky I am with my tattoo artist, I have got to the stage where I say, “I want to tattoo my (body part) you know what I like”! I always get an awesome tattoo never been disappointed 😂
Agreed! I’m not all that tattooed (about 75% of my right arm, and 25% of my chest) but my artist knows what I like so I just give him the vague gist and he nails it 😂

I think this is not only up to a good artist but also a client who isn't completely detail oriented. I tell my artist I want a goat in his style and that's what I get and I love it. But some people want the goat to look a specific way, the horns are supposed to look a certain way, what direction does the goat look or is it front on, etc pp. The more specific people are with details, the better it is for them to give good references.
The tattoo of the butterflies @ 3:16 really did need the halos above their antennae because they are little angels from heaven. After my mum died, I was finishing a hand embroidered dolphin my mum had been making and a butterfly flew inside and sat on my hand. It was magical and I knew it was from my mum. As an artist I 100% understood the belly tattoo sketch! I wasn't surprised in the least to see the final result. What you thought was a mushroom was the eye and the 'popcorn' were labeled as lotuses. I thought it was a really clear sketch actually 😂

11:54 Hunter x Hunter is an anime and you could indeed have done that spider tattoo in so many different ways since what we see here is not the exact same design as in the anime but a stylised version. Shame since the concept is cool and would allow a lot of style variations.
I really enjoyed seeing some of the harder to interpret "asks" like the flying eyeball with lotus flowers. I've never done commissions but it's fascinating to see how these artists expressed so much with so little primary information.
For a bit of a clarification of the Hunter x Hunter tatooo, the actual tatoo itself that the Phantom Troop of the Manga is *extreamly* simplfied with legs that are more stylized. While it was unfortenate that it was one to one by similar to the same artist (the legs of the origonal design are more spread out and each member of the troop has a different number) I have a feeling the customer wanted *exactly* that stylization that they showed the artist because if you look up "Phantom Troop Tattoo" it will show you what Togashi designed being more simplfied and extreamly *dark*. as it's solid black with a white number on it in verious parts of the body.
@@anszjaa That is true, but the I can see how some tatoo artists wouldn't want to attempt and some people may not want it even though it's actually has been done by other tatoo artists from what I've seen. The fact that is solid black means it could easily bleed and the legs would lose it's detail and touch ups would be a nightmare if not done right. The one that the person wanted probably wanted the gray gradiant to account for that and the realism would also account for the eventual bleeding if it does happen without it being ruined. For that origonal design to look really good after it heals it has to stay crisp all the time. so the person has to look for someone who knows how to work with tribal tatoos for that alone.
I recognise the frog from the story book they normally use during autism assessments in the uk. They ask you to interpret the story without words and its honestly so strange to do but such a cute tattoo idea!

He is an amazing picture book artist. I‘m a picture book enthusiast, I love books which are equally entertaining for kids and adults and my favourite one is also from David Wiesner. It’s called „Flotsam“. It has quite a complex story even though it’s also just pictures without words. His work is almost storyboard-like and you can really dive into the details for hours. ❤
I understand going to different tattoo artist, if you want different styles or you’re a collector like cheese burger man. But once you find an artist you vibe with and you’re happy with their work, it’s normally worth sticking with them. Just my humble opinion.
I have two main artists I go to. one does cuter, traditional style tattoos and the other does dark and spooky black and grey. I like having a mix of those two styles c: but im getting a flash piece soon done by an artist I’ve never been to but works in the same studio as one of my other artists and her works is really solid.

Ooh, a plague doctor! The bookstore at the college where I work got in a handful of plague doctor squishables. I was incredibly sad that I had to explain what they were to the staff. They somehow thought it was some sort of weird owl and had no idea why I was so excited.
fair mistake to make though. the squishables are cute but completely indecipherable unless you know whay they're meant to be. they look just like little birds, plus they're inspired by modernized depictions of plague doctor masks rather than the actual historic ones.
I would really really love to see this as a repeat video series! Getting an idea of what other people send as inspiration vs the end result is really informative and probably going to make me feel more confident when I reach out to tattoo artists.
I don't know why but whenever in my head when I'm trying to estimate the size of a tattoo, I use a subway sandwich as a guide because for some reason it's a lot easier to picture six inches if it's in sandwich form

Fun fact about the police sketches: they purposefully make some traits very odd/pronounced to put emphasis on the suspect’s appearance, example, if the suspect is wide eyed, they will make them SUPER wide so people can remember those specific traits and identify and remember them better!

Hunter X Hunter is a manga and anime series 😊 I've seen a lot of these phantom troupe spider tattoos and it's one thing if it's a direct copy of the phantom troupe tattoos from the series, but in a case like the example here where an artist put their own spin on it I'm 100% with you that line-for-line copying that tattoo design wasn't cool.

The butterfly cloud tattoo is good bc the Smokey type cloud on the person look good with her stretch marks. Like the tattoo and the stretch marks are part of the same picture
Fun fact most of the time criminal sketches are done like that for a reason because the less actual detail but getting across the main features is important for people to actually identify the person it’s crazy that some of the sketches that look awful actually lead to the criminal being found

I'm never sending a tattoo as an inspiration pic again. I sent a few tattoo pics to an artist and figured they would redraw something brand new from the references I sent... Well I ended up with a carbon copy of one of the tattoos I sent. It's a beautiful tattoo, I like it a lot and it healed up incredibly well. All that said, I'm a tad bummed that I accidentally got someone else's work done on me. You might be wondering, "But didn't you check the stencil beforehand?" Yes I did, but I had forgotten exactly how each reference tattoo looked. So I didn't notice until a day later when I was looking back over our emails. Plus I was so excited to get the tattoo that I was distracted by my own joy. Heck I might not have noticed at all if I hadn't been looking back at the references. So now I'll redraw any tattoos that I'm interested in and then send those drawings to the artist. It forces them to redraw :3

I'm not familiar with hunterxhunter, but I know it's an anime. If the tattoo is something a character in the show has, and the original was copied from there, I think it's fine to do a direct copy. No one fan has the right to claim the 'official' tattoo design all for themselves. It's like asking for a copy of a logo, and you don't want it stylized or anything. It's probably not the most artistically fun for the tattoo artist, but I doubt any fan would want something that looks like a knockoff or some unofficial merch rather than the original design.

I LOVE the clown doll tattoo. It reminds me of the Harpy Hare art that’s going around now in the medieval (?) art style which are a little unnerving but also super cute. However, I do understand what she’s saying and if that wasn’t what you wanted or didn’t match something like a real doll you had growing up, I can imagine being disappointed. But I would love it 😂

@@timitami7117 The book is called Tuesday and it has no words except like times and dates but they make you tell the story how you see it i said the fish looked enamored at the frogs flying and the person testing me was like like huh? I guess I couldn't tell because she was always seeing it upside down

The butterfly cloud tattoo is good bc the Smokey type cloud on the person look good with her stretch marks. Like the tattoo and the stretch marks are part of the same picture
Fun fact most of the time criminal sketches are done like that for a reason because the less actual detail but getting across the main features is important for people to actually identify the person it’s crazy that some of the sketches that look awful actually lead to the criminal being found

Haven't had design issues with the 3 different artists I've been tattoed by. The artist who did my most recent tattoo made it into a unique masterpiece ❤
I read it as lotuses, the plural of lotus, pretty much a wreath of lotus flowers.

I'm never sending a tattoo as an inspiration pic again. I sent a few tattoo pics to an artist and figured they would redraw something brand new from the references I sent... Well I ended up with a carbon copy of one of the tattoos I sent. It's a beautiful tattoo, I like it a lot and it healed up incredibly well. All that said, I'm a tad bummed that I accidentally got someone else's work done on me.
You might be wondering, "But didn't you check the stencil beforehand?" Yes I did, but I had forgotten exactly how each reference tattoo looked. So I didn't notice until a day later when I was looking back over our emails. Plus I was so excited to get the tattoo that I was distracted by my own joy. Heck I might not have noticed at all if I hadn't been looking back at the references.
So now I'll redraw any tattoos that I'm interested in and then send those drawings to the artist. It forces them to redraw :3

I'm not familiar with hunterxhunter, but I know it's an anime. If the tattoo is something a character in the show has, and the original was copied from there, I think it's fine to do a direct copy. No one fan has the right to claim the 'official' tattoo design all for themselves. It's like asking for a copy of a logo, and you don't want it stylized or anything. It's probably not the most artistically fun for the tattoo artist, but I doubt any fan would want something that looks like a knockoff or some unofficial merch rather than the original design.

I LOVE the clown doll tattoo. It reminds me of the Harpy Hare art that’s going around now in the medieval (?) art style which are a little unnerving but also super cute. However, I do understand what she’s saying and if that wasn’t what you wanted or didn’t match something like a real doll you had growing up, I can imagine being disappointed. But I would love it 😂
