It's so funny to me. The guys are treating the women like crap and they're being all catty about the one woman there to help them? Yeah, they're all part of why they were failing hard. None of them care about their work (neither the men nor the women).
Happens a lot with “pick me” sort of girls. They want the boys to “like them” and just end up being jerks
Came here to mention the same, they're desperate pick mes, yet are being treated like utter crap when there's no other women around for the men abuse.
It's baffling they, and other women like this, are blind to this kinda thing.

Those girls were giveing such mean girl energy to the ex, I felt so bad for her. They just seemed like they didn’t even have a real reason to hate her they just wanted to stick by their boss
Makes me wonder if they BOTH had something going with the owner.

Joey is absolutely giving off that Italian family energy where they have a very strong mother and nonna, plus lots of cousins and sisters, who absolutely had all the boys knowing from a young age that you should be a gentleman and never disrespect a woman or they'll beat you with a spoon

Running theme in all of these places. They move the friends in and it becomes a hang out. All episodes so far, the same thing has happened.
That’s what happened at a tattoo shop/artist co-op in my town. The owners have no interest in running their business or controlling their artists. So of course their artists drank and smoked in the shop, stole money, started doing hard drugs, and claimed squatter’s rights in the basement.
I’m so angry at all the local makers and artists they roped into their incompetence.

Tattoo shops like this one would be a *hard pass* for me. As a queer woman, I want to feel safe where I get tattoos so I can recommend to other people like me. My current artist and his shop are amazing, but its sad that I got lucky after searching for 3+years. Feeling safe should be the norm for the industry.
The shop I go to has a sign that says:
Peace and Love
No Violence
No Sexism
No Racism
No Homophobia
POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE
I told my artist I feel safe there and he looked surprised and said, "Well, you should!" as if there are no tattoo shops that would make an overweight, 62 year old woman with less than perfect taut skin feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. Lol. But this is why I love this shop and this is why he is my artist. I absolutely adore that they set their expectations up front, and everyone is welcome! My wish is for everyone to find such a great environment and have the best experience with their tattoos. They are so important to us; why taint them with others' negativity and unprofessionalism?
I really hope the women there have learnt about internalised misogyny in the past 12 years since
“It’s just an opinion” dude you insulted him and called him a joke of an artist, it’s not an opinion it was an insult that you didn’t think would get you called out, and I don’t think Joey should’ve let it slide cause he didn’t apologize
I wouldn't want to go to a tattoo shop full of surfers. The shop and its customers come first,second and third.
@51:05 im so happy that joey is only doing the criticism of the tattoos in the voiceover, instead of in front of the clients! it shows that he cares about not making them feel bad about anything with their new tattoos, even if he has different opinions about them :)
Right?! You could easily love your tattoo and then feel differently once someone critiques it in front of you and points out its flaws.

Seeing the repeated hygiene comments (then and now) I wouldn't be surprised they got the disposable piercing supplies bc he didn't trust them with proper use and upkeep of the autoclave and everything
Now that you mention it, that’d make sense. I’m a former piercer and I was surprised to hear him pushing for disposable supplies, but if they’re this bad at hygiene I could see why he’d bring those up as what they should switch to.
Like, did she kill his dog? Cheat on him with his brother? Other kind of horrible abuse? Otherwise it’s been a decade, go over it!
I get the feeling all she did was dump him in a way that he couldn’t pretend he dumped her 😂
I think my ex and I could work together. Would we enjoy it? Eh. That's debatable, but if my business depended on an expertise he could bring and he was willing to do so? Sure. I'd make it happen. My husband's ex? She would still sabotage him in every possible way. It's been nearly 18 years and there's no way in the world it would even be safe for them to be in the same room for more than a few hours. Some people just can't behave as if they aren't psychopaths!

I’ve noticed that a lot of tattoo shops have an open plan where the clients are being worked on.
If there were separate rooms for each artist, they could maintain both increased sanitation and privacy for the clients. I’m sure many women would feel more comfortable being exposed only in front of the artist and not the whole shop.
Also, frosted windows would provide privacy and also counteract the beach exhibitionists. 😂

They totally didn't deserve this makeover at all, after the initial disrespect that was dished out, I'd have turned around without another word and given my time to a more deserving and willing to work with shop. They unfortunately just waisted everybody's time and hard work and should have been allowed to get shut down. This episode shouldn't have happened in my opinion.
The "Why would I want a girl not to flash me?" is so stupid. It's literally indecent exposure and is no different from a guy pulling his pants down. The lack of respect is disgusting.
I see what you mean here. I think it's rather the reason behind the flashing that would consider it indecent exposure for some, but breast and penis are not the same. Everyone has a chest and it is not a sexual body part. A woman's breat is meant to nurish a baby. A mother feeding her baby isn't indecent exposure. Now this woman clearly has different intentions and was showing them in a sexual manner but far less scarring than a man's penis. Still wrong but not comparable.

Do not deserve help. Their attitude, eye rolling etc., tells me all I need to know as a woman that loves tattoos and loves getting tattoos. I would give any of these people one penny of my money.

To see you didappointed about the missing drama and then overwhelmed of the unfolding drama when Deja entered the scene and recognized as the ex was priceless.

This bro shop is so full of red flags. The fact that only the women were cleaning up just grinds my gears so much.
The really sweet artist that left, Chelsea, reminds me of my artist, Nicole. She's amazing! She just recently left a shop that was 10 mins from my house for the same reasons. All the guys in the shop were so rude to women and they sat around while Nicole cleaned the shop every night. Many nights i was in there after midnight helping her clean bc i felt bad for her. She's now at a really nice shop an hour away and i will happily make the drive to be tattooed by her!
For a bunch of surfer artists they had a startling lack of ocean themed tattoos going on.
My goodness, your shocked eyes when the lady asked "Didn't you guys used to date?" threw me out for a while! Thank you for being so authentic!
Also the owner trying to blame the piercer for not using disposables and then lying about firing the one artist, he’s got the biggest ego and lying issue like he can’t take responsibility like stand by your choices
That girl was probably dating the tattoo shop owner. Or had a crush or him. Otherwise I don't see why she would have a problem with a 10 yr old ex.
This show is just rewarding bad behavior honestly. And you can tell Joey didn't say shit to these people's faces because you can hear the audio difference when it's a voice over added in post. He should've just let them go out of business the minute they were snotty to the girl trying to help.
It’s also very clear how the producers got the drama up they told the girls like “he gave you a place to work, are you gonna just watch everyone do this to him” cause both of them just repeated “he gave me a job/a place to work” like it’s very clear how they instigated the drama

Most of the Tattoo Rescue episode I've seen should be "rescue potential clients from these so-called tattoo-artists by shutting this place down and black listing every single so-called artist permanently"...
Also, the new camera quality is insane! Looks so crisp and you look magnificent (although that has always been the case ;) )

Fun fact for those who don't know - that female artist, Dejah, is the romantic partner of Freddy Negrete, arguably the main reason fine line black and gray tattooing came out of prison and into the mainstream.
I do wish I could believe these shows; whenever I watch reality shows, I just assume every bit of them are scripted. Disbelieving something meant to be "real" totally robs my enjoyment of it. I do think they make good points about violations, so you can learn something about red flags.

I appeared on a tattoo tv show here in Australia, Mike Diamond was the producer. All the “shop drama” with the staff, especially the women, against the ex gf was definitely just manufactured drama. None of that was real 😂
I was paying $175 an hour in NM for a tattoo in 2004. As a nurse. Disposables are the way to go because you can't sterilize MRSA out of tools. We use Disposables in our office.
Who is the piercing woman to tell that female tattoo artist to leave. I think that’s a red flag. You make so little at this shop that you just stick around because….when you could go elsewhere and make more money. Seems odd to me.
As someone who has tattoo artist as one of her many backup plans for a career, I couldn’t even begin to imagine subjecting clients to this kind of environment. I’d want them to feel as safe and as cozy as possible. If you want to hang out with friends, keep that outside of work. Imo a tattoo studio is a place where you should feel comfortable and relaxed, since getting a tattoo is stressful enough as is. I don’t understand people sometimes, I swear.
It's crazy how hard the women workers fought for their boss when he went out of his way to throw one( the percier) of them under the bus as well as casually disrespects them by expecting them to clean up after everyone plus making the super unqualified guy manager over the one with more obvious management skills like .. these men went out of their way to show them they hate women and thin them beneath them and yet they still acted like guard dogs over a relationship that didn't include them and ended more than a decade ago 🫣 I hope they saw this episode sometime later and felt super embarrassed at their behavior Lmao

11:41 it's true. Women get more tattoos. But generally women get small tattoos that don't cost as much or cover as much skin; while guys get big pieces that obviously cost more.
That's does make more sense now that I think about it.
Do you know if there are any actual studies with statistics on this? Not trying to be argumentative, I'm genuinely curious! Me personally, I go for larger tattoos and am more covered than most of the guys in my friend group. But I know I'm just one person.

The surfboards in the piercing room just...ooooh .. that makes me mad. Those boards have been out in the ocean, getting covered in salt water, sand, dirt, wax, and even just all of those microorganisms in the water. That shop is insanely nasty for letting them keep those gross ass boards in the room where you are actively making OPEN WOUNDS. tattoos and piercings are still open wounds! And all of those things on your board are exactly what you DONT want near one.
I dont know if tattoo shops have a health code like restaurants do, but for places like these, they 100% should.

Joey is the worst person on the show by far! They didn’t change in any way. They just wanted the shop refresh. You can tell from Olivia’s reaction. They just wanted the free upgrades and took advantage of Joey and Sam. Of course Newport ended up getting the best renovation yet 😭

I am in this video for about 20 minutes and I have already decided that I don't really want this shop to be saved. These people's attitudes are so horrible I don't think anybody should have to deal with them especially not for something so permanent and intimate as a tatoo.
