As a licensed tattoo artist... I need folks to understand what a blowout is T_T The fine line wrist lady describing an aged tattoo as a blow out because it's old (even though that one actually is a blowout but I'll get to that) wasn't right. A blowout is not ink spreading when your tattoo ages. A blowout is the ink being injected into the hypodermis (the fat) layer. It's akin to putting a drop of ink on a wet paper towel - the fat layer doesn't have the cell structure to hold ink in place, so it spreads out and keeps spreading. But!! Fear not, I'm here to explain why ink spreads as you age and how it's different from a blow out. When you get tattooed, your skin sends little things called macrophages to the site of the tattoo because, well, ink is a foreign body. Macrophages are white blood cells that act, basically, like little Pacmans that go over, swallow foreign bodies (like bacteria and such, but in this case the ink particles), kill them, turn around and leave. The PROBLEM is that macrophages don't live long, so when they die, they deposit the ink particle they took a chomp out of right where they die... which causes lines to thicken and spread as the tattoo ages. It is always going to happen and is just your body doing what it's supposed to do. But!! Macrophages are also part of what make tattoos permanent, because when a macrophage dies the body sends another one on the first one's place to consume the dropped ink. Because of this, your tattoos are always in a constant state of being crowded with macrophages, which helps to hold the ink in place where it is. That indefinite cycle repeats over and over and helps lock the ink in place within the dermis (even though it does cause gradual spread over the years). It's super interesting, but NOT a blowout and I die inside every time someone says a tattoo aging is a blow out, but that's mainly because most folks don't understand what causes the changes that aging tattoos go through. This is actually part of my 'first tattoo' chat I have with clients who are getting their first tats! I love answering questions and talking about the life cycle of a tattoo, that way my clients know what to expect of their art over their life time. That being said: That wrist tattoo? That WAS a blowout. That ink was WAY too deep. Fine line tattoos don't stay fine line, but THAT was absolutely a blow out. Wrists are stupidly easy to blow out and it's very easy to inject into the fat layer if one isn't experienced with that thin, delicate skin or if they don't know how to read their machine vibrations and sound (that's how we know how deep we are and omg I could info dump on reading your depth all day but I swear I won't unless...?) Here's a link to a great break down on macrophages and how scientists figure out what they do to tattoos, and how they play an amazing part in making tattoos permanent! www.bio-rad-antibodies.com/blog/how-macrophages-make-tattoos-last.html

Practical application has three different points: machine feel, stretching hand vibration, and sound. When you hit the dermal layer, the vibrations in your machine change. I describe it as a sort of... deep hum, but it can vary depending on your machine and voltage. It's important to be familiar with your machines so you can learn how to feel the changes in them - for example, my Bishop packer feels like a bass drop when I'm in the right layer, but my Mast Archer is akin to a bee buzzing. (There's a few very technical reasons behind the reason why machines sound different from one to the other when you're at the correct depth, such as stroke length and such but that's all for another chat though I'd be so happy to dump about that too.) Second, the sound of the needle changes, where in addition to the familiar buzz of the machine it makes a faint sizzling sound (kinda' like bacon frying!). You have to listen close for it, but it's there. Last, the vibration in your stretching hand changes, so maintaining a proper stretch and keeping correct anchor points is key in finding the dermal layer. Because there are multiple factors to monitor, it can take a good while to master depth, but it's also why even the most experienced tattoo artist can still have issues with blowouts and why most tattoos have tiny ones and they shouldn't be considered a bad thing unless... well. They're SUPER bad or very obvious. It's just the nature of tattooing and perfection is not possible, though as tattoo artists we should always, ALWAYS be striving for improvement and to do our best. That being said, consistently blowing out tattoos in obvious ways is a sign of poor technical application (i.e they do not understand the above points or are inexperienced) so please, always always always familiarize yourself with an artist's body of work and look for healed photos before getting work from someone you're unfamiliar with. Skin is a living canvas and it is different for every individual, so it's crucial to learn how to feel and listen in order to apply a tattoo correctly. It's often why we tattoo ourselves first so we can learn without hurting a client (and also so we can know what it feels like to go too deep, and to know how it feels getting tattooed by us
Yes! Thank you for saying this. I feel like people use the word "blowout" for every change in the tattoo's life cycle. I don't think there is a correct word for "lines get blurrier as it ages" so everyone just reverts to "blowout" since to the general public, blowout=fuzzy lines. I would also love more info-dump if you're willing! I love hearing about the scienitific processes of tattooing! Tattooing has been around for thousands of years, but we've only bothered researching it in the last ~30 years.
That is super interesting. I studied immunology in at uni, we never covered how the immune system responds to tattoos, and since I developed an interest in them, I have wondered what happens beyond that initial response to injury & the foreign body.it never occurred to me that it would be a never ending cycle. I'm curious if people who are heavily tattooed see that reflected in their blood work even once they are healed. I do wish they had taught us about that in uni, my immunology prof was super cool, I'm pretty sure if it was something he was knowledgeable on, he would have shared. That said, from your link, it looks like most of the research is fairly recent (published within the last 8 years) and since I graduated 20 years ago, perhaps I was just a little too ahead of my time. Bookmarked to read fully & dig into the linked studies later, thanks for that.
@@krookedburger EEEE of course, I'm always happy to info dump! I just replied to another comment with the depth dump, I hope you enjoy and it's informative!!
Tattoo Artist: We will not name the tattoo artist, we will not say their name here Lauren: Ariel! (shows a picture of Ariel) 👁👄👁 I just mean this as a joke of course. I actually really like that you named and showed her face because while I understand other business don't want to be liable or start stuff, I think it's important to warn people of this person to make sure no-one goes to her.
These parents that cry over their children getting a tattoo is absolutely ridiculous to me. They need to talk to parents whose children are sick…..there’s a reason to cry.😢
Yeah, it's so bizarre. My daughter is a week away from turning 18 and wants a tattoo. I'm already planning on assisting her get what she wants from a great place. My logic as a parent since she became a teen has always been "it's your body/life, I'll give you the warnings why something isn't a great idea if it isn't but ultimately I'd rather you do it safely" that does for piercings, tattoos, sex, drinking. My choices about her life ends at her ability to be autonomous.
I don’t think it’s necessarily ridiculous if it’s warranted. I was just reading an article about “Black Alien” and his mom has every right to cry. With that being said, his is such an extreme case of body modification, likely stemming from mental illness. I can also see how parents of certain cultures or religions would be upset. Like I can no longer be buried in a Jewish cemetery. That was never a problem with my parents but definitely would be for some. Other than those very specific examples, I would tend to agree.
@@coyoteartist its so much ruder to bully your child you decided to give free will over what they do with that gift. Moms like that just sit there and passive aggressively bully these kids by crying over stuff like this, but it really has nothing to do with them and they are acting like they birthed a doll an not a boy. Comments like this are the light the truth and the way. Say it louder for the mothers in the back!
@@VVilde36 I'm not saying that some of these parents aren't overboard. I'm saying that you don't always know the situation or the whole story. Someone else commented some very good reasons a parent might be upset. You also don't know the aftermath. You're painting it all with one brush and acting as much an intolerant bully as you claim these parents are because you don't agree. You then add the snide remark of they should go talk to someone's whose life is worse. As if someone else's difficulties should be a lesson strictly to satisfy your argument. And the cherry on top is you seems to think it's fine for these children to hide things from their parents and not discuss it or for them to rudely spring something on them as they're already dealing with the child leaving. Just because your child has free will doesn't' mean if they want to have a decent relationship with you as a parent, they shouldn't have some understanding or respect.
My second (and third) tattoos, when I was 21, were on my hands. I have a leek and a radish for a right/left tattoos. I'm so glad I got them done when I did because I can't get tattooed anymore due to an autoimmune disease. This sucks because I've always wanted to be heavily tattooed. I'm disabled so the things I can control about my body is so important. I also can't bleach my hair anymore and its so upsetting. Sorry for the dump but thanks to anyone who read through this and listening. 💚
I'm so sorry you can't get tattoos or bleach your hair anymore, I would be devastated! I wish you best of health and luck in finding new ways to retain your bodily autonomy x
I am sorry about you not being able to do the things you wanna do with your body. Maybe one day it will be possible for you again. But I have to say, the leek and radish idea is genius! I might have to steal that idea and get an animal equivalent (like a Lobster and Rat or something) 😂
I feel the hair thing. I have alopecia areata and really dark black hair, so to dye it, I'd have to bleach it, but my hair is already too delicate, bleaching would just destroy it. I'm glad you had the chance to get tattoos that bring you joy ❤
I can't understand parents who get mad about their adult kids getting a tattoo. It's *their* body, it does not belong to the parent. The disrespect of autonomy is just so gross to me.
As a fellow millenial, I am also so exasperated by the videos where people don't hold still for a second when they show you something. Like babe, my eyes are old, please give me a chance to actually have them focus on the thing you are trying to show off. I promise, we won't think it's a photo if you stop for one second. We still know it's a video. We are actively watching it. Please, let me see the thing the video is about.
I had no idea how delightful it would be to watch the next generation start getting old! I know it’s not a good personality trait but 😂😂😂 but wow after 50, your brain will want to go full old person & you’ll have to fight it hard!
My husband has a raging baby face and is the sweetest person ever. He works a job where his arms are almost always covered. The stunned reactions he gets every single time someone finds out he has a massive back and side piece, a forearm tattoo on one side, and a full sleeve on the other provide us with endless entertainment.
My only problem with the vein tattoos or any wrist tattoos is that if you need an IV it would be difficult to find your veins. Only speaking as one who has had to have numerous IVs and blood drawn over the years.
@shinobusora yes and no. Its usually a combo. If you've got good veins and are well hydrated, looking for veins combined with feeling them is the best option. As a frequent ER/hospital visitor, I can assure you there are many times they can't feel them and have to study the arm/hand hard to work out where to start feeling. They will also bust out an ultrasound machine if it's particularly hard. My veins are always super easy or super hard. I've even had them have to draw out of my knuckles because every other vein was too deep/collapsed to find any other way. Of course, tattoos can also be a benefit - my artist is another frequent flyer at hospitals and a nurse herself. She knows there is a vein in a particular intersection of her tattoos that is her best performer 🤣
Jaded Art Collective - who did the free cover up of the "blindfolded" plane - is in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for anyone who is curious. (Also the location of Dolly Parton's Dollywood, if you're headed that way.)
Last year I was at a convention where a guy had a ton of serial killer flash tattoos. Honestly I don't understand how this was allowed(he remained there all weekend) All the other artists seemed to be disgusted with this dude as well
Low key for the people getting them I'd be thankful someone put that big of a red flag on themselves for all to see, makes it super easy to know to stay away from them
I love the flower leg tattoos, especially the bee! I have an appointment in two weeks to get bees tattooed on my knees. Yes, I'm very excited to make all the "bee's knees" jokes.
My sister (16 years older than me) asked, “Did you talk to your BROTHER before you got that?” I was 40, my brother is two years younger than me. He got his only tattoo when he was 18 and would not get a tattoo now. It's very mild regret. How is it the same? And why does it matter? My brother thought that was a stupid question bc I am allowed to do whatever TF I want with my body. Lol He would have never told me NOT to do something I wanted to. Using my brother's personal experience to put me down… super weird!

I wanted a Samsung Galaxy Watch for the longest time, but the damn things would lock tattooed people out. Since it decided whether it was being worn by checking a pulse with the light on the back, and the tattoo blocked it, it constantly locked. I got a Galaxy Watch 5 when they finally added the option to turn that off! Still, my heart rate and all that other stuff don't read accurately through my ink, so the only health-related use that works is as a pedometer. Looking absolutely beautiful, Lauren! Thanks for the great content, and don't worry about if you need to take your time sometimes! 😊
I have a Apple Watch i wear it in my left wrist, my right is a full sleeve, but I do have a bee tattoo pretty close to the watch band. So when I take my watch off all you see is tanned hand, white as paper wrist 😂 but I’m very short so my tattoo on my forearm takes up my whole arm
See but this stuff makes me wonder if those watches even work for people with darker skin tones? Is there a reason that ink specifically would block it, while melanin doesnt, or are these watches only for white people (and if so wtf)
@XemeraldXD unfortunately, I know that some folks with darker skin and some with hairy arms have had the same sort of issue - from what I understand, the light just doesn't penetrate well. Before I bought my watch I read through forums where some POC were talking about how even the workarounds didn't work for them. I would hope that the industry recognizes just how many customers they're alienating and are looking for a better way to perform those functions so that almost everyone can use them.
In interviews with multiple cannibals, a few of them have specifications mentioned that they don’t go angrier very visibly tattooed people (especially back when these interviews were conducted) often meant that the people lived a partying type lifestyle. Drugs and alcohol made for bad meat as disgusting as it sounds. I’m not sure why serial killers wouldn’t like tattoos other than what was mentioned that it makes a body much easier to be identified. If you have tattoos on every part of your body, they basically have to rip your flash off. And if your body has 18 spots of missing/wear a missing person would’ve had tattoos it’s pretty telling what that would mean.
I love that the tattoo artist got their entire crew to check that the tattoo was straight, when I got my most recent tattoo on the back of my lower neck between my shoulders my tattoo artist had everyone double check the symmetry and placement. He had to redo the stencil placement a few times before everyone agreed that it was perfectly centered and even showed me pictures of each placement to show me the difference between them to show where it wasn't placed right. It took a few extra hours than I anticipated, but I absolutely love that they took their time to make it perfect.
Laser isn't precise enough to clean up that one tattoo with the stars in a way that wouldn't require a cover up/clean up tattoo. The way your body breaks the ink down and processes it is so unpredictable. I've had laser in that exact spot on a fairly symmetrical design and it did NOT fade in the ways you'd expect. 3 sessions got me a perfect fade for cover up though!
I do think in the case of the boy at the airport, there’s a chance the mum was already tearing up because of her son leaving, and not necessarily because of the tattoo.
A lot of my family members, especially the older generations have a little cross tattooed on their hand. I think it was a tradition to get it for/shortly after your confirmation since they are all very religious and they don't have any other tattoos
The artist at 23:52 is a really nice tattoo artist who moved to our area relatively recently. My boyfriend is also an artist so we saw that there was a new shop (& it's a oddities like shop too!) so we had to check them out. If you are looking for a good artist in Pigeon Forge, TN, their shop is good one to go to!

7:38 what it actually is my tattoo artists was telling me it is not just age, but the more you do it the more your nervous system is trying to convince you NOT to, so your nervous system makes it hurt more hoping you won't do it again, it's our bodies way of begging us to JUST STOP 😂😂
One big piece of advice I’ll forever be thankful to my mother for is “Don’t touch your brows. Don’t over pluck them, you have a natural good shape. Just pluck the strays. I’m 34 and still live by this.

Lauren, you are looking absolutely stunning in this video! The hair, the outfit, the makeup, all perfect. Your eyes also really popped in this one, it was the very first thing I noticed. I of course love the content you make but I also love seeing each video's new Look 💕
I have my share of fine line tattoos. I have cancer and if I’m still around in a few years and they start to look bad I’ll get them touched up. I love all of my tattoos and wouldn’t change them except maybe make a few bigger but it is what is.
I think the reason why tattoos are starting to hurt more is because our skin starts to get thinner the more we age. That's my theory at least 🤷🏿♀️ I'm 35, it definitely sucks more now than it did 10+ years ago
Your theory about tattoos hurting more because you’re not as nervous makes so much sense! Whereas before I’d be hyping myself up for the tattoo, now I roll up to the studio and I’m like “oh, right. Time for pain” 😂

I got diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome at 30- and I ended up noticing the pain of tattoos got worse and worse after that age. I'm needing to go in for some touch ups and my new son's name, and so now I'm dreading it- when i used to LOVE and LIVE FOR new ink!

Your makeup looks so beautiful! You always look so glamorous! I was so happy to see you uploaded, I'm home sick with covid and your videos are the coziest.
as someone who has a couple of fine line tattoos; yes they do fade & blur a bit as they age but they’re definitely not supposed to triple in size like that 😭 even my oldest tattoo (that’s turning 10 years old very soon!) hasn’t expanded nearly that much
I feel like these people that let the artist tattoo them THROUGH a tshirt or on a fence don't do this just for clout tbh. I mean the one guy seemed to have selfharm scars :/ kinda sad. Anyways, great video again, Lauren :)
I've got a AW and I've actually struggled with this for 5 years, but I've finally found a solution that works for me! I bought Polar H10 belt to use with my AW when I work out and it's only connected to the watch with wrist detection off and I've had no issues! Otherwise the AW has been my favourite watch to wear and most useful to me! I've black work on both of my arms so it's game over for me with the smart watches since the sensors aren't strong enough. Some people are really big fan of CMF nothing watch and say that they work well with tattoos. But honestly the Polar belt has been great during workouts :)
My best friend gor her first tattoo this winter, she told her parents a few weeks ago. Her mom started crying, her dad was screaming. She is 22 years old
I have a full sleeve including my wrist and I wear an Apple Watch every day. I never have had an issue once and my tattoo is BLACK in that area. But I did read it can interfere with the features but I’ve never experienced them with either of the watches I’ve owned. Tattoos can prevent the Apple Watch from recognizing that it's being worn, which can disable features like Apple Pay and push notifications. The watch may also lock and turn dark. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the Apple Watch's heart rate sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings. This is especially true for darker tattoos that cover more skin
You always look beautiful but today WOW you are blowing me away with your beauty! Love your videos, feels like I’m hanging out with a friend. Thanks for being you ❤
I've had a full sleeve for almost 2 years now, and wear a watch daily. Smart and dumb watches alike. No fading, no issues! Wrist area looks just the same as the rest.

Tattoo Artist: We will not name the tattoo artist, we will not say their name here
Lauren: Ariel! (shows a picture of Ariel) 👁👄👁
I just mean this as a joke of course. I actually really like that you named and showed her face because while I understand other business don't want to be liable or start stuff, I think it's important to warn people of this person to make sure no-one goes to her.
Oml! Your axolotl army is expanding! One of these days there will be a rebellion and Lauren will be replaced by an axolotl controlled robot

Comments like this are kinda rude.
Leek and radish! I love it so much!

Hahaha fellow frequent flyer here too. I had that exact same thought.
Tattoos are not force fields.
I think you're getting people that are doing it wrong. They're supposed to feel for veins, not look for them. They need to go back to school.
@@writeonshell Hm! Very interesting! Thank you for the info!
Honestly I don't understand how this was allowed(he remained there all weekend)
All the other artists seemed to be disgusted with this dude as well

He got his only tattoo when he was 18 and would not get a tattoo now. It's very mild regret. How is it the same? And why does it matter? My brother thought that was a stupid question bc I am allowed to do whatever TF I want with my body. Lol He would have never told me NOT to do something I wanted to. Lmfao one of the most unhinged comments I’ve seen on RUclips. Love that it’s on Lauren’s channel too lol
My mom always told me that you'd know you were eating a balanced diet if there was a whole rainbow on your plate!
The worst part of the candy pizza is that they put a mint with it! Don't they know to never put mints with other candy? It always takes over and makes everything else taste minty. 🧐🤣
Mint is like bacon. If it's present, you will taste it with every single bite
The only serial killers that are ok are fully fictional ones (which can still be weird but hell no to REAL killer or other criminals who definetly belong in jail/prison!)
These videos always make me either laugh or scream "NO!" at the people in the videos like they can hear me 😅 and the Cheeseburger man is so wholesome ❤
Cheese burger man is the highlight of these videos imo. Also I always love how tickled Lauren is by the sunglasses xD
I would hope that the industry recognizes just how many customers they're alienating and are looking for a better way to perform those functions so that almost everyone can use them.
the axolotl family in the back just steals my heart!!!!!!!!!!
“You shouldn’t put pineapple on pizza!” Laurennnn!! My heart!!! xD I love pineapple on pizza lmaooo, much love! You look stunning!
@12:00 that's so cute how the whole shop rallied together to make sure it was perfect for her. How sweet.
That octopus tattoo looked even better healed
That new camera is just *chef’s kiss*!
I have zero tattoos (so far) but I love this channel so much!

The zombie vein one looks weird, like cuts rather than veins...🙃
