      I have the Z13. One problem with the touchpad is "tap". I turned it off. Tap is not adjustable as to force. Any momentary contact with touchpad acts like a left click. I needed to turn tap off. I prefer what is called "press", which is adjustable as to force. Tap was driving me crazy! Took me awhile to figure out to disable this "feature".

Lots of screen resolution for coding and more than enough RAM for docker and more. A great keyboard! It looks great. The only negative is the wait for when it comes off of hibernation.

    Why the hell are Lenovo foolishly aping XPS's annoying problems. cant get over the lack of usb-a/hdmi ports on a thinkpad. It would have been perfect. for gods sake this even does gaming well enough on such a light package. I didnt expect to see 6850U beating the much higher TDP 1260P in cpu applications. Intel CPUs are just hopeless in ultraportables.
    one thing to note Asus managed to put a 67wh in the lighter 1kg Zenbook S. that would have giving this %30 better battery.

    Some hotakes and thoughts:
    'Zed', I will never understand this. It takes the fun out of the coolest letter of the alphabet, Zee!
    The gold/bronze trim absolutely kills the look for me. There should be an option for a stealthy gunmetal trim.
    Vegan leather does not wear like actual leather - there will be no leather-like patina on this after heavy use.
    The trackpoint buttons, while flush, should still have red trim to tie in with the red trackpoint (because it's a ThinkPad).

    Having two ports on a business laptop is just sickening. Unforgivable. Unless I get the laptop for free. Just..unbelievable.

      Good businesses will get USB-C external devices as they will need to comply with EU directives in the next two years. Sadly, all these companies continue to make old IO, if they did USB-C projectors, printers, scanners, etc, then we would be fine. It is not Lenovo that is the problem, it is OEMs making devices with old IO.

    • @sarahgarfinkle6805
      @sarahgarfinkle6805 2 года назад +1

      @@andyH_England This is incorrect. The EU only mandates USB C charging and not on laptops just yet. Only for small electronic devices such as cell phones and tablets.
      Also, all of the Lenovo Thinkpads models use USB C charging outside of the engineering grade P Series Mobile Workstations, which until this year drew too much power to be charged with a USB C cable. It will probably get USB C charging later on, as 240W charging becomes more and more available. Also, laptops are allowed to have non USB C ports even under the EU's potential future laptop charging mandate. This is why it's perfectly fine for a laptop to have USB A, HDMI, headphone jacks and other ports, just as long as it has at minimum one USB C port cable of charging the device.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 2 года назад

      @@sarahgarfinkle6805 Indeed, laptop OEMs can still have multi-IO ports, but with the world moving to USB-C, what is the point for the future; we need them to act smart and push for change rather than holding out for a niche techie market that get hang-ups on USB-C only devices. Getting the block to move as one, rather than Apple or another OEM having to take the lead is far better for innovation and progress. However, we see from comments here that people are not willing to change, stuck in their old ways, despite history telling us that these changes are inevitable and better we do it as one rather than some slowing down the change.
      The EU has requested OEMs to use USB-C chargers on laptops and has not made a directive yet. They hope OEMs see sense and ignore the loud minority that hold back change. They only use directives when there is disagreement and reluctance. Any good OEM should be doing it sooner rather than later, as Apple,Dell and others are moving inexorably towards. I am a bit surprised that techies are not 100% behind the movement to USB-C, but then again it is alright when Apple are forced to do it, but when it effects them, a different story?

      There are tons of additional costs to buying a MacBook, which is typically not worth it to a business unless there is an absolute need for one. This is what you will typically need to do when introducing a MacBook into a Windows dominated enterprise:
      1. Find a docking station which will support DisplayLink for Macs, and have a backup or two on hand in the event it breaks. The docks normally used probably won't work with the 13" Macbook Pro.
      2. Buy an additional MacBook for testing.
      3. Spend IT resources, which equates to a ton of time and thus money, either setting up something like JAMF or Intune for MacOS to integrate with existing Active Directory SSO (hope you ONLY use Azure AD or Okta, or else this is going to be a days long project).
      4. Reconfigure the VPN to work on MacOS devices.
      5. Set up the SMB file share for existing Mac compatibility, if your organization uses an on premise file share.
      6. Set up specific MacOS policies to prevent data exfiltration.
      7. Setup a dedicated MacOS antivirus satisfying the requirements of cyber-insurance and cyber auditing firms that the corporation is contracted with.
      8. Train staff on MacOS support, which can take a few days, meaning that they will not be able to work on their existing projects.
      9. Confirm that all software an executive will use is compatible with MacOS.
      10. Create managed IDs for employees.
      11. Purchase new keyboards compatible with MacBooks because executives are used to typing on their external keyboards.
      12. Ensure that any other commonly used software is put on the software share with MacOS compatibility, which takes additional time, especially if that software has special corporate configurations such as an integration with logging data, automated passwords, screen recording, etc.
      Or you can spend a couple of hundred dollars more and get a business grade machine which will save the hassle of all of the above. By the way, I work at a dual Mac/ Windows company, and this is exactly what we have needed to do.

      It's essentially a more powerful version and next gen of lenovo yoga slim 7 pro 14" amd variant, which cost no more than $1400 give or take. I paid $1100 for the iGPU only OLED version.

    I have no idea why they always make its design complicated. For example, no need to put "FHD f/2.0..." in the camera area. Don't they think it would make a premium product more sophisticated and timeless. I am not using Apple products since it is not suitable for me but I must say I like the desgin of Apple more and Apple does not need to change their desgin every year since it can last years. Why other brand cannot do that, why they always make it so complicated.
